Songs That Revert to Original Name

I'm having a really frustrating problem. I found some CDs full of MP3s that I backed up from CDs I legally own, and am trying to re-import them into iTunes. iTunes is fine with this, copies them to the music folder, etc. Unfortunately, when I change the name of the album, it reverts to the original name when I play the song. Also, I can't add artwork to the songs. I don't understand what's going on; they're not read-only (as far as I can tell anyways). Anyways, this is very frustrating and if anyone has some ideas that would be greatly appreciated.

There is no way to rename files in iPhoto. When you export you can select various options for naming the exported image, but the original file in iPhoto is unaffected by this. Naming files is the Finder's job, and of course, if you do rename files with the Finder that have been imported to iPhoto you will corrupt your Library.
What Old Toad was referring to was adding or editing a Title for a Photo. This does not rename files, but rather is an entry in the Library database or - on export, should you select to - a field in the metadata.
Can you explain in more detail the issue you are having?

  • Songs that share same album name

I have many songs that I have added over time to a single album name. The only problem is, is that iTunes has decided to split them up seemingly by the version of iTunes has encoded these. Unfortunately, all these songs contain their own album artwork and simply show up as different albums with their own album artwork. Thus, cluttering up my viewer.
My question is: What is the easiest way to consolidate these songs to a single album.
    Thanks!

It's not the version of iTunes they were encoded with...it has to do with the info on the tags. See these documents; they should help:

  • ITunes Imported Songs that have no Original Files, How to delete easily?

I just reinstalled iTunes on my computer and somehow it imported about 5000 songs that I didn't know I had. The problem is when you click on these songs, they can't play because iTunes can't find th Source file.
Is there an easy way to delete all these songs or do I have to locate each one manually and delete them?
    Thanks

    Here ya go!
    - select the Library icon in iTunes
    - select all songs in the track listing
    - Get Info
    - change BPM to 99 (assuming you don't use that field for anything else)
    - wait for that to finish - it will take a while
    - after it's done, sort the display by BPM (ctrl-j & click BPM if it's not a column on your display)
All the "!" files, which will not accept the BPM change, are now grouped together for easy deletion! Take the BPM 99 out afterwards in case you need to do this again in the future.

  • Can't play songs that have a "old" account name?

i have a number of songs that have different account names.... some have my user name and then some have my user name plus "@.mac.com" at the end of the name... the ones without the @mac.com will not play? any ideas?

I'd suggest you start a new topic with your issue (use the "Post a new topic" link at the top of each main topic page). It's generally better to ask a question as a new topic rather than as a reply in someone else's thread. It's more courteous to the original poster, and is more likely to get your question the attention it deserves.

  • Ipod touch 5 - when in song suffle mode, a random album will suddenly appear on the screen and then it is difficult to get back to the song that is playing

Just "upgraded" to a new ipod touch 5th generation after previously using various ipod classics.  So I am not familiar with all the ins and outs of the device.  One thing that I have a problem with is the fact that there does not seem to be a simple way, while in shuffle mode to quickly move to the next song or back to the prior song.  But forgetting that for a moment, here is my problem and I am trying to figure out if it is a bug or simply some kind of "feature" of the ipod touch that I don't get.
I am playing music...in song - shuffle mode.  All of a sudden, instead of the particular song that is playing, a different album shows up on the screen.  Meanwhile, the original song keeps playing.  When this happens, sometimes that album then starts playing and sometimes I am able to move the ipod touch in various directions and I can get back to the song that I was originally playing.  Any idea what is happening here and how to stop it?
    Thanks for any help.

    Hello Philly,
I believe that when you reset your ipod(command given from the computer, right?)  touch WHILE the ipod was updating, It cleared the system in the middle of writing files, thus corrupting(equivalent of cutting of in the middle of a sentence) the basic running system.
I suggest you go to an apple store and ask for a technical diagonosis in person. they may offer to help if the problem is fixable. If your ipod is still under warrenty, i would guess it would be free/low cost.

  • How do I find all photos that can be '"reverted to original"? Help please!

Hi. I hope that someone can help me with this!
I am trying to go through my iPhoto Library of about 1000 photos and find all of the photos that have the option to be "reverted to original", ie. I have made changes to them. I realise that I could go through them one by one, but I am trying to avoid that!
I have realised recently that I should duplicate a photo before changing it, so that I leave the original untouched. However this doesn't help me with all of the old ones that I DIDN'T duplicate.
Is there an Applescript or a method of finding all of the old photos that I am looking for?
Thanks so much in advance for any help,
    Fleur

    I don't think it can be done from within iPhoto but there's a way you can do it from outside. First download and launch QPict. Then do the following;
1 - open your iPhoto Library folder and type Command-F.
2 - in the search window create these two search criteria:
    a - Kind is Folder
    b - Name contains Original
3 - In the search results window click on the size column to separate the empty folders from those with files in them.
4 - select all of the folder that are not empty and drag into the open window of QPict.
That will open the original files in QPict so you can view them there and compare to those in iPhoto. Just remember do not move any of those folders out of the iPhoto Library folder. Just move them into the open window of QPict.

When you "rename" a photo in iPhoto you're adding a Title to the shot, not renaming the file. This si quite standard metadata in photography, but it appars that it's getting lost in the upload/at Snapfish process.
You can use the Titles as filenames if you export using the File -> Export command. It's one of the options in the export dialogue. You can upload the exported items.

  • MacBook Pro reverted to original system settings just like that

    hello folks,
little disaster: i turned on my machine to find that all my settings for safari have disappeared - as if I just received the machine from the factory.
Safari no longer has my bookmarks or favorites.
I opened iTunes and got the license agreement dialogue box, as if I'd never used the program before. 40 gigs of music gone!
I've lost all the files on the desktop too.
Can anyone explain? A virus? Is there a way to get back my settings to these program?
Also the trackpad is not functioning as it used to. I used to tap the trackpad once or twice for highlighting and clicking. That no longer works. Now I must click the clicker.
And the dashboard has also reverted to what I assume are the original settings with many programs that I'd removed from it back.
    Desperately yours,
    Goha

    Hi again Goha,
OK, as I had never had to deal with this problem first hand I just created another account on my iBook and deliberately messed it up by changing the name...
I created the account with the name 'doris' and put some documents, music and videos in the respective folders just so I would know the difference after changing the name. I then renamed 'doris' to 'dopy', logged out and logged in. As suspected my 'doris' Home folder contained nothing of doris's. I must admit to some initial confusion following the advice from the Apple KB article but the salient points are:
    From Apple KB:
"Before you assume that the home directory contents were actually lost, check the /Users folder to see if the missing home directory is present and simply renamed."
    My clarification:
So, from a Finder window first select 'List view'. (I find it easier to work in list view) Select the HD icon in the left hand column, then 'Users'. Your missing stuff should be in a folder corresponding with the new name that you have assigned.
    From Apple KB:
"If you determine that the home directory is present but renamed, follow these steps:
In the Finder, go to the /Users folder."
    My clarification:
    That is. Finder/Macintosh HD/Users
    Apple KB:
"Locate the new home directory, which bears the users' short name."
    My clarification:
This in my case would be the 'doris' folder which has a 'House' icon
    Apple KB:
"Add "_new" to the new home directory's name."
    My clarification:
Click once on the folder name (i.e. 'doris' in my case), pause, then click again. 'doris' should then become editable within a box with a cursor. Move the cursor to the end of the name and add _ new (i.e. underscore symbol and the word 'new' - without the quote marks but it probably doesn't matter)
    Then key the 'Enter' key.
    Apple KB:
"Rename the old home directory to the user's correct short name."
    My clarification:
Click once on the folder name (i.e. 'dopy' in my case), pause, then click again. 'dopy' should then become editable within a box with a cursor. Rename this to the exact original name as it was before you changed it, in my case 'doris'.
    Then key the 'Enter' key.
    Apple KB:
"Log out and back in with the affected user account."
    My clarification:
I hope this helps, as always:
    Good luck!
    Adrian

  • Is there any way of undoing a shuffle? The CDs I downloaded to iTunes have all been shuffled. As most of these are classical, it is inappropriate to have them separated into songs that play any old time. Can I restore them to the original albums?

Is there any way of undoing a shuffle? The CDs I downloaded to iTunes have all been shuffled into individual 'songs'. As most of these are classical and folk, it is inappropriate to have them separated into songs that play any old time (ie, a movement from Beethoven's 5th symphony followed by a folk song followed by one excerpt from Vivaldi's Four Seasons, etc. Can I restore them all to the original albums and make sure the shuffle doesn't happen again?
    Thanks!

Thanks! That has worked, but only partially - there are still some Beethovens mixed in with the Vivaldis. I'm sure I installed these as total albums.
I have noticed that too from time to time, I generally move the files into the correct folder and fix the index in itunes when one won't open, occasionally.

  • Question about garageband: I have 3 short original songs that i wanted to merge ala "Bohemian Rhapsody". Is that possible in garageband? their tempos are all different from each other. Advance thanks.

First of all, GarageBand iOS allows for only one tempo and there is no Merge Song feature.
    What you can do.
Switch between the songs and copy-paste the individual Tracks. You can also Merge Tracks if you run into the 8 Track limitation.
    Hope that helps

When you connect the iPod to your computer and go to the Music tab to select which music you want to sync, iTunes will pop up a dialogue box that if you sync your music it will replace the music that is already on the iPod.
Since that sounds like what you want to do, just click ok and then sync.

  • I'm finding that songs that I have imported to Itunes are suddenly showing with "Exclamation" marks and Itunes tells me that the original file cannot be found.  When I tell it to locate the file, it can't do it.

I'm finding that songs that I have imported into Itunes and played before are suddenly showing an"Exclamation" mark and Itunes tells me that the original file cannot be found.  When I tell it to locate the file, it can't do it.  I went to the Itunes help for locating files, but that still won't do it.  It seems that somehow they are getting deleted, but not by me that I know of.
    Can anyone help me?

Maybe you rename it. Somehow the path to the songs have changed if not deleted.
In Finder go to "Macintosh/Users/username/music/iTunes/iTunes Media/Music" that's where all your songs located so if those songs are not there you get an exclamation mark. You can delete those entries in iTunes and re-import again.

  • I recently bought the i pod touch 4 and noticed that not all of my songs transferred over-The songs that didn't, say original file cannot be found. What should I do?

I recently bought the i pod touch 4 and noticed that not all of my songs transferred over from my i tunes library-The songs that didn't, say original file cannot be found, when clicked. What should I do? I tried using the tips on this site, but they weren't too helpful...I downloaded the songs from cd's and purchased them from i tunes.
Any help would be much appreciated! Thank you!

I doubt that your music files are gone. Do a spotlight search and look for The Cure. What likely happened is that for whatever reason, your iTunes lost track of the location of your songs.. which happens on occasion.
What you need to do is go to the folder where your music library is - where the song files are - and check to see if they are there. If so, then go into your iTunes preferences and in the 'Advanced' pane put in the location of the folder where it says 'iTunes Media folder location'. iTunes should then be able to 'see' the songs again.
