Songs that share same album name

I have many songs that I have added over time to a single album name. The only problem is, is that iTunes has decided to split them up seemingly by the version of iTunes has encoded these. Unfortunately, all these songs contain their own album artwork and simply show up as different albums with their own album artwork. Thus, cluttering up my viewer.
My question is: What is the easiest way to consolidate these songs to a single album.
Thanks!

It's not the version of iTunes they were encoded with...it has to do with the info on the tags. See these documents; they should help:

  • For iTunes Match, how come some songs "match" on an album and other songs on the same album "upload" without matching?

For iTunes Match, how come some songs "match" on an album and other songs on the same album "upload" without matching?  All songs are available on iTunes.  I don't get it!  Any way to manually match songs that iTunes apparently can't match?  I have hundreds in this unmatched state.

Shazam has NO problem determining what these songs are. Maybe Apple needs to consider licensing their technology as it seems MUCH more accurate than what they are doing.
You aren't comparing like with like.
The main task that Shazam has is to identify the name or a track and the artist. I believe that it suggests the album as well, but if it gets that wrong then it doesn't really matter too much.
With iTunes Match, getting the album (i.e. identifying which version it is) is much more important. If it gets that wrong then it breaks up the flow of an album. This makes the task that match has very much harder.
In fact, there is a strong argument to say that currently the problem iTunes has is that it is matching too many songs, resulting in matches from different albums.
I'm sure that match is not struggling to identify whether it has a song or not, but whether it has the correct version of a song. When you introduce different masterings into the process then, depending on the thresholds set, it is probably correct in concluding that it hasn't got a particular version, even if you think it has.
The solution would appear to me to be a tweaking of the matching thresholds along with the ability to force an upload, but we just don't know what restrictions they have (remember that if Shazam gets it wrong the it doesn't present you with a copy of a new track that you didn't have previously). It is almost certainly not just a case of improving their technology.

  • Songs from the same album appearing as coming from different albums

I am having trouble grouping multiple songs into one album. In my iTunes, there are songs from the same album that are appearing as from separate albums. For some reason, it is only happening in rare cases. It has randomly split The Roots' album How I Got Over into 3 separate albums, and it has split every Outkast song into individual albums.
And yes, I have already tried the basic steps of selecting all the songs I want to group, and editing their info together. I have done this, and ticked every box in the info fields so they will be identical. Yet they are still appearing as songs coming from separate albums.
Does anyone know what I can do? (I am using the current version of iTunes -- v9.2.0.61)

Actually there is something else, more for the purists though.
Some albums will have "featured" artists and they will be stuck into another part of the tag, but by doing that iTunes thinks it's another artist and treats it as a different album. A good fix that I use is to remove the featured artist and ammend it to the track name. So: "When You're Gone (feat. Mel C)" Is the actual track name instead of "When you're Gone" and the artist being "Mel C" and the album artist being "Bryan Adams". Make sense?
By turning it into a compilation it will change where it appears on your iPod or whatever, basically it will be grouped with all other compilations, not where the artist should be.

  • Songs of the same album appear as belonging to different albums

On three different moments I purchased from the iTunes Store three songs from the same album (21 - Adele), but despite artist, album name and album artwork are exactly the same for the three songs, in iTunes I see them as three different albums (ie, in Cover Flow view, three different covers).
Note that iTunes put the three songs in the same folder, as it recognized them as belonging to the same album.
Any idea how to fix this problem?
    Thanks

See my article on Grouping Tracks Into Albums, in particular the topic Tried that, there are STILL too many covers!.

  • When I copied my cd collection to my iTunes account, I use the view by CD option in the viewer. How can I get songs from the same album to show nder the same view, instead of making it a separate thing?

How can i fix this problem with songs from the same album, not being organized under the same  when they are from the same CD?

Thank you... just read up on iTunes Match.   That stinks, paying a yearly thing... but I understand everyone has to make a dollar.  I think I'm better off just picking the best songs out of my collection storing them on my computer or iPhone then selling my CD's to some used CD place.   If I ever really want to hear a song there are multiple options and if I want it... the .99 to 1.29 option is always there.
    Thank you for the information

  • Keeping songs in the same album together

Because I am traveling for a while, I moved my iTunes library from my iMac to my MacBook Pro. Now, when I open it up, I find that a number of albums have their songs scattered over several different albums, all of the same nsme (even though the library on the iMac displayed songs in the same album together. When I do a get info on the songs (from the same album that appear in different albums), the information appears to be identical, but I am unable to figure out a way to get the songs together in the same album.
For what it is worth, I copied the iTunes folder from the iMac to the MacBook Pro, and dragged it over to an open iTunes window. I also lost quite a few pieces of album art in the process.

Look at Steve MacGuire's helpful article for your solution:  http://samsoft.org.uk/iTunes/grouping.asp

  • Songs with the same album art not grouped together in iTunes for Windows

Brand new iTunes user here - do not yet have an iPod! (Needed some music only on iTunes)
When I first started up iTunes, it imported all of my music I already had on my computer. A few of them are soundtracks with different artists.
When they are shown in the iTunes library, the soundtracks have been broken up by Artist instead of staying as a whole album. How do I get the songs back together as one album? I found the folder on my computer where they are stored and combined them there, but they are still separate in the iTunes library.
    Thanks from a total newbie!

Mark the tracks on the album as "Part of a compilation" and fill in the Album Artist field as "Various Artists". Click on the first track of your album to highlight it, hold down the shift key and click on the last track to highlight everything in between. Right click on the selection and choose Get Info. You'll get a message asking if you want to edit multiple items, say yes. If you are using iTunes 8 in the box that opens go to the Options tab and change "part of a compilation" to Yes and choose OK.
Also in your library click on the title bar of album column to bring all the tracks in the same album together. If you keep clicking in the title you can choose it to sort by Album, Album by Artist or Album by Year. Clicking on the little triangle on the right side of the column header changes the sort direction. Pointing up and the column is sorted in Ascending order (A to Z). Pointing down and the column is sorted in Descending order (Z to A).

  • How to keep songs from the same album together in the Walkman app?

How do I keep songs from the same album together in one album instead of it being spilt up into three different albums? Is there any way to keep this from happening? I have all of the correct album information, but it still happens. I thought I would use Media Go and see if it helps but it never works properly.
Any suggestions would be much appreicated.

Make sure your Album information in mp3 tags is all the same in all tracks belonging to the same album.
Clear the cache memory of Storage Media service
    https://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/WALKMAN/Multiple-Song-and-playlist-appear/m-p/732329?sl=y&sso_no_log=...
If, despite having the same album information in mp3 tags and clearing cache memory, you still get multiple entries or songs belonging to the same album are split into 2-3 albums, then I suggest an easy way.
Use Winamp and create an *.m3u playlist in the same directory you have the mp3 files stored in your phone. This playlist will then appear in Playlists - My Playlists and you will be able to enjoy your music in correct order of tracks and all the tracks will be there.
That is my method (using m3u Winamp playlists) simply because Walkman app does not respect the Track Number tag in mp3 files belonging to the same album and rather sorts the tracks within the same album based on Date Created.

  • Songs from the same album not grouped together

Sometimes when I import songs from the same album, they do not show up grouped together. I will end up with several entries, with one or two songs each. Sometimes the correct album art is on each one, and sometimes not. How can I stop this from happening, and how can I correct it if it does?

  • ITunes splits songs from the same album into several albums, all sort fields appear to match. Any suggestions on how to put them in one album?

iTunes sometimes splits songs from the same album into several albums, all sort fields appear to match. Any suggestions on how to return them to the proper album?

Generally all you need to do is fill in an appropriate Album Artist. For more details see my article on Grouping Tracks Into Albums, in particular the topic One album, too many covers.
N.B. Giving different things the same sort value (or indeed vice versa) tends to lead to trouble.

  • I've made a collection of songs in garageband, and have them now as .aif files in my itunes library under the same album name. How do I trim the beginnings and endings of the tracks so that my album flows better?

I "shared" the songs I made in garageband to itunes. Now the songs have some extra time of silence after they end, which makes the album i'm trying to put together feel more broken. I want to make the tracks flow perfectly through each other. I want to do it permanently, also, so that when i share the album it doesn't have space in it.
In the past I have imported all the songs into one garageband file and arranged them so they slightly overlap as a continuous track but then i didn't know how to split them back up so the tracks would still be actually separated. I can't find any information on this. I know I can sort of cut the songs in the "get info" options in itunes, but the song still lists as longer, itunes just makes it jump early.
    Thanks

For the missing Artists on your iPod, make sure their tracks in iTunes are not marked as "Part of a compilation" in iTunes. You can do this by highlighting the track, right->clicking on them and choosing "Get Info" from the shortcut menu. When the window pops up, head over to the Info tab and make sure there is NO tick mark next to this option in the lower right hand corner. Lastly, sync the updated changes to your iPod.

  • Why does iTunes show tracks that I've ripped from a single CD as individual tracks with individual albums all with the same album name?

I've looked all the data about each track in terms of album name and other seemingly relevant pieces of stuff, but whenever I look at my songs by albums, it still shows these tracks individually. It's like the same album is repeated over and over instead of the album appearing once with all the tracks listed beneath it.

EG. A CD upload has all of the tracks appearing as indivual alumbs. But as its not physically on the computer anymore I dont seem to be able to do anything about it.  Is there away for me to access cloud and rectify this? or manage it from a device?
    Thanks
You can edit the "metadata" of the tracks in the cloud just as you would if the tracks were physically on your computer. Hightlight the tracks of the album you want to edit, do a Get Info..., edit "metadata," click OK.

  • Songs belong to same album, but displayed on ipod as separate albums

I'm not sure if anyone else face same prob as I do with ipod.........some songs that belong to same album are arranged separately on itunes and subsequently in my ipod.
for example, itunes arranges track 1 below tracks 2-7 that belong to the same album(same artist) All the id3 tag info are the same for all these songs. can anyone help?

All the id3 tag info are the same for all these songs.
I guess they're not, although they may appear so. Often there are subtle differences, like a superfluous space at the end.
Please select all the songs belonging to an album and reenter the artist and album name for all of them at once. Then they should sort correctly.
    Alexander.
