Songs that skip

I am having problems with some of my itunes library skipping.  I am fully updated with itunes, mac os, and ipod software.  I believe the problems stem from having of the files for song long, and transferring them from comp, to ipod, to new computer, to hard drive, back to new computer, etc.  I have a very large library, and it would take me a very long time to go through and identify each songs that skips and re-download it.  I was wondering if anyone knew of a faster way, a program perhaps, that can identify song files that have corrupted, at least partially....  The problem has gotten worse over time as i have transfered digital files from device to device in efforts to save my library from hardware problems.

You may want to check your soundcard output in QuickTime. See this post for directions on the process:

I have a song that skips on my main mac because its a downloaded copy. But on my other devices(iPad, Apple TV) it does not skip because its in the cloud. How do I put a downloaded song back into the cloud?

Delete the track from the iTunes library, but not from the cloud.

  • Purchased songs that skip, like a scratched CD

I have purchased atleast 2 songs that skip, like a CD that is scratched. Really bad quality. Does iTunes music store credit those songs? If yes, how do I go about it?

Assuming that it's just specific tracks, not every track you purchase from the iTMS, contact the iTunes Music Store customer support department through the form at the bottom of this web page and explain the problem to them. Most likely they'll credit your account and instruct you to try again in a couple of weeks after they've had a change to try and get new copies of the tracks.

  • My Itunes library is skipping some songs which is also affecting my ipod, it is always the same songs that skip at the same place, it is not all songs.

Since moving my Itunes to a Vista, it found songs that I downloaded a long time ago and added them to my library but now some songs (not just the ones that were lost in apple land) are skipping after playing a few seconds then it moves onto another song.  The same songs are skipping at the same place when played on a computer and also my ipod.

i noticed this as a bug in iTunes. make sure the correct file is selected in the preferences menus. It does not have to be the default location directiory as Vazandrew stated. your iTunes music library can be anywhere you want it. i have mine on an external cuz i'm a dj and have over 80,000 songs.
once you select/verify the location of your music library, simply drag the folder into the left panel in iTunes from a finder window. iTunes does not automatically add the items like it use to for some reason.

  • How to replace songs that skip?

    Hi,
I have imported my entire CD collection into iTunes and I noticed that some of the songs skip when played in iTunes or on my iPod Touch. This particular disk was in pretty bad shape, so I understand why the songs skip. How can I replace the skipping song(s) with ones that don't skip?
    Thanks,
    Ray

For some unknown reason every once and a while a song will not "encode" properly when being converted into digital format (.mp3). This is the cause of the glitches that make the song skip past. This can be fixed by re-encoding the song at a different speed (The standard is 128kbps but can also be done at 160kbps and 192kbps in iTunes).
Now to re-encoding the glitched songs:
First off check the original encoding speed. This can be done by selecting the glitched song, right clicking and choosing the "Get Info" option and the bit-rate (encoding speed) will be in the summary tab. After you check the current encoding speed the settings for importing music into iTunes may need to be changed. You can change these by going into the "Edit > Preferences ~ Advanced tab > Importing tab" once here simply change the box labeled "Import Using" from "AAC Encoder" to "MP3 Encoder". Now all that needs to be done is to change the bit-rate. Choose one of the bit-rates from the "Setting" box that is different from the current bit-rate of the skipping song. Once the setting is chosen click "Ok" and then go to the "Advanced" menu and there should be an option to "Convert Selection to MP3". Now it is as simple as selecting the affected song and then going into the advanced menu and choosing the "Convert Selection to MP3" option to fix your glitched tunes! Every song that is converted using this will be encoded with the bit-rate chosen in the earlier stages.
Hopefully this helps, good luck re-encoding =)

  • Burned CD has songs that skip

I have burned two CDs from music purchased from iTunes. The songs play perfect from my library, but once I burn them to a CD and play them in my car or on my home stereo the songs have skips and jumps. Does anyone know how to fix this? What settings should I be using on my Windows XP? Or is it an itunes thing I need to fix?

Check the burn speed, if CDs are burnt too fast they sometimes skip or don't play at all. To be safe, choose a very slow burn speed and check to make sure the CD plays correctly. You can try slowly inching the speed back up again until you find that too fast line that your player can't handle. I use 12X myself--it takes a little longer to burn a CD but they work correctly when they're done.
To change your burn speed in itunes go to Edit>Preferences>Advanced Tab>Burning. Then use the pull down menu next to "preferred speed" to change the setting (is it at maximum possible right now?)

  • Free programs that work with itunes to scan/fix music for tracks that skip

Are there any programs (preferably free) that can scan an entire itunes library for corrupt songs & fix on albums? like songs that skip that came from a scratched CD. With the amount of songs I have now, it would be impossible to go through them all & listen for skipping tracks. I have found & learned about programs or scripts that can scan a whole library for missing album artwork, so I wondered if threre was anything for skipping songs.

    Hello Cathy 21084,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
For more information on this, take a look at:
    Troubleshooting songs that skip
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3217
Make sure song files are not damaged
If a specific song skips when you play it, it may be damaged.
    1. Delete the song and update your iPod.
    2. Insert the CD you used to import the song and import it again. If the CD is scratched or dirty, iTunes may not be able to import the song. Try cleaning the CD or use a different one. If the song was imported or created using a third-party application, try the following:
Use iTunes to import the content directly from the CD.
Convert the content to an iPod-compatible format using iTunes.
    3. Update your iPod with the new copy of the song.
    Best of luck,
    Mario

  • Why does iTunes Match download songs that I skip?

I haven't seen this question posted yet, but feel free to direct me to any pertinent posts.
I've been using iTunes Match for the last couple days, and all in all I really enjoy the service. There is one issue that I've yet to see addressed on these boards yet though; why is iTunes Match downloading songs that I skip? I listen to all my music in random, so occasionally there will be a song I just don't want to hear at the moment. I assumed that if I don't listen to a song completely that it would not be downloaded to my device. Not true apparently. I was able to use about half a gig of data in a few hours just by skipping songs. Every song that was skipped, even if I didn't hear a single second of it, was downloaded (at an average size of 5-8 MB). I sincerely hope this is just a bug and not a 'feature'.
Any insight on this would be appreciated.

I have noticed this too. I filled up my phone VERY fast yesterday.
and deleting is not easy, lots of left swipe DELETE action, took a while.

  • How can I get an album to play in order on Itunes?  The songs keep skipping all around to other albums that I did not want to listen to at that time?

How can I get an album to play in order on Itunes?  The songs keep skipping all around to other albums that I did not want to listen to at that time?

It sounds like you might have the shuffle button at the bottom left of the iTunes (the button with the squiggly lines).
If that's not the case, then maybe you just need to sort your library by album by clicking the album tab at the top.
Is your music in a playlist, or are you trying to play it from the entire library?

  • TS3217 When I try to skip one song on my ipone, it skips through several. The songs that are skipped can be played on the same iphone if I go into my itunes and select that song. So this tells me that the song can be played, therefore, it is not the song.

When I try to skip through a song on my iPhone, it skips through several songs. The songs that are skipped can be played on the same iphone (when I go into to itunes library on my phone), so I know that it's not the song. I have the latest softeware downloaded on both my iphone and itunes. In fact, this only recently started occuring when I reconnected my iphone to my laptop about a month ago to install the new updates on itunes.
I also have an itouch and an ipod, both of which have been updated at the same time as my iphone and they do not skip through songs.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync all music and resync
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • TS3217 Skipping songs that are downloaded

About 3/4 of the songs that I bought from iTunes are skipping. I deleted all songs and redownloaded to find that they are still skipping inside of iTunes. How do I fix this issue? I do not subscribe to the cloud and did not back them up any where else.

What about songs that you ripped from CD or downloaded from another source?  Do ANY of them also "skip" in the same way?
If the problem is ONLY with iTunes downloads, you should contact Apple iTunes Store support

  • TS1424 i downloaded a song and it shows the time length all to be correct but while playing the song will only play for about 30 seconds then skip to the next song in my list (all lists) - in short i payed for a song that is only of a preview quality

i downloaded a song and it shows the time length all to be correct but while playing the song will only play for about 30 seconds then skip to the next song in my list (all lists) - in short i payed for a song that is only of a preview quality
Either this needs to get fixed or i will request my money back because i will not work for my money while other lie about what i spend it on.

Try deleting the problematic tune (electing to remove original file if/when prompted) and then re-downloading the file from the iTunes store.
You can re-download content purchased from the iTunes store (availability varies depending on location) using the purchased option from the Quick Links section in the top right corner of the iTunes homepage in your iTunes application on your computer.
You can re-download content purchased from the iTunes store (availability varies depending on location) using the purchased option at the bottom of the screen of the iTunes app (or video app on your iOS device.
If the problem re-occurs, select the content which is causing a problem and use the 'Report a problem' button in Your Purchase History using your computer.
