Songs to more than one playlist

Sometimes I wish to place a song into more than one playlist. For example, title, composer and album.
iTunes is not allowing me to pull the selected songs into the 2nd or 3rd playlists. What am I doing wrong?

I don't understand your question. What does ...
"For example, title, composer and album."
... mean with respect to playlists?

  • Is it possible to make multiple playlists and set itunes so that it will not let you add a song to more than one playlist?

    I have a veryl large Itune library and want to make multiple playlists so that for example when driving long hours in the car I can change to another playlist and not have songs repeated.  I do realize if I noted down every song that was put in a playlist I would be able to accomplish this but it would be nice if there was some setting that I am unaware of that would keep track of this for me.  Any suggestions?

    To Clearify  for example I am wondering if their is a setting so that Itunes won't let me add a song to playlist A if it is alread on playlist B.  Any Suggestions?

  • How to have more than one playlist on the iPOD mini ...?

    This may seem a silly question - after all, isn't it the whole point of the iPOD ? Anyway, with my current setup, I cannot get more than one playlist onto my ipod mini.
    Using Win2000Pro, connecting using USB; there have been lots of other issues involving ' cannot read/write to ipod ' which have been reported on these forums , I started having problems after Apple 'upgraded' iTunes from 4.9 ...ended up with nothing on the ipod at all. Since then a few upgrades and now running iTunes 6.0 (not 6.0.1), it DOES sync with the ipod but does not let me manage the playlists:
    Since my library is > the ipod ( 4 GB model) I cannot use the option ' sync all songs & playlists' , which is what I originally used when the library was < the ipod. At that point I did get ( automatically I think..) a few playlists onto the ipod.
    Howeever, since the library got too big, I have to select 'sync to these playlists only' . I use 1 master list, which works, ( it syncs all the songs to the ipod and I get just that playlist on the 'pod) but any attempt to select another playlist from that dialogue box results in consistent hanging of iTunes, and you have to kikll it in task manager.
    I would have thought that you could simply drag n drop a playlist onto the connected ipod icon (that would be more elegant) but the inteface doesn't allow it..
    Oh and another thing ..why does the syncing tool delete ones on the go playlists from the pod ? I can't even get around this issue by making them manually on the 'pod as they get deleted when syncing.. Grrrrhhh
    Where to go from here guys & gals ??
    Thanks...any tips gratefully received

    Ok I'll try that, although I did try it earlier when I had iTunes 5.xx loaded, I think.
    As to size of playlists, I have a master (900 songs) that defines what will fit onto the ipod , I then generate all the others as subsets of the master (not of the library)- hence I know they will all fit
    Can you also clarify something for me: the dialogue box we are discussing is intended, I think, so that one can set the automatic synching of certain playlists between the PC & the ipod. Is that the only way one can select other playlists to go to the ipod - i.e. as static once-offs, not synchronised ?
    Apple' docs, I think, are poor in this regard - they assume most ipods are bigger then the users song library and they gloss over the details of this alternate mode of playlist synching.
    Thanks - Nick

  • Can I labled the same song to more than one albums? As you know, some songs are repeated in different albums.

    Can I labled the same song to more than one albums? As you know, some songs are repeated in different albums.

    You can make a copy of an existing song, then change the album, artwork and track number details. You cannot make the same physical file show up in two different albums.

  • Put a song into more than one genre

    I am trying to organize my music and would like to put a song into more than one genre.  So if I put a song into the categories "acoustic"  and "blues" I would like for that song to come up with I search acoustic songs as well as when I search Blues songs.  How can I do this?

    Genre= "Acoustic Blues"
    Search for "Genre contains" as opposed to "Genre IS".

  • My iPod Nano will not sync ratings to iTunes if more than one playlist is played

    When I try to sync my iPod back to my computer it will only take song ratings I've changed if I only played music with one playlist.  If I've played more than one it doesn't transfer them and just acts if they never existed.  Why is this?

    If you honestly did not damage the iPod, the broken screen should be covered under warranty. Do you live near an Apple Store?

  • Is it possible to associate a song with more than one album?

    I have a number of duplicate songs as a result of owning both an artist's album and compilation albums. Where they are identical I would like to associate the song with each album keeping only one version but allowing the song to play within the either the artist's album or the compilation. Is that possible without using the playlist option?

    Can't be done.

  • How do I view more than one playlist at a time in iTunes 11?

    I cannot figure out how to view multiple playlists at the same time, in iTunes 11 (mac version). Previously, I could just double-click on the playlist name, and it would create its own window. Then I could compare or move songs between different playlists.

    I found it amusing that many of the questions can be answered with "impossible" when it comes to iTunes 11.
    and yours as well I am afraid.

  • HDI open more than one playlist window in 11 for Mac?

    I think the question says it all...
    I do alot of futzing with my songs and playlists, and I prefer to keep several windows open and switch between them. Even with the sidebar restored (so it looks like the pre-11 iTunes main window) double clicking the gear/note icon no longer opens the playlist in a new window, like it used to... (I say it everytime... I should learn everything I can and watch all the preview videos and release notes and whatnot--and then wait a week or so after that, besides--before upgrading anything on my Mac. It's not that I'm opposed to change, but I do get set in my ways, and really dislike when an "upgrade" reduces or removes functionality that I use daily, and have come to rely on...)

    (Replying to my own post...)
    This really does seem to be a thing Apple did--(and on purpose, too):

    And I concur with this comment in the other thread:
    Please. Everybody feed back to Apple to restore the multiple window feature of iTunes. This was a terrible decision (if was intended).

  • Can't Import Some Songs or More than One - HELP

    I can't get an answer to this question: why when trying to import multiple songs will the import fail. I have to go back and do 1 or 2 at a time -- huge PITA. Also, Musicmatch would allow you to "scan" a folder and it would faithfully scoop up every song you'd downloaded since the last time it ran and import it. Can itunes perform this basic function?
    Any help greatly appreciated. I love my ipod, but itunes seems like it goes out of it's way to make this difficult (gee, i wonder why)!
    30 gig video   Windows XP   ThinkPad T60

    I can't answer the problem about the import failing, but you can tell iTunes to scan a folder for new music.
    'File' -> 'Add folder to Library...'
    By default, it copies the music files in the folder you selected to your iTunes folder, so you end up with 2 copies of the files. To prevent that and just have it list the files in iTunes, but not move or copy the files, you have to change some setting in Preferences.

  • How to change the columns in more than one playlist

    I am trying to change the columns in my playlists for all of my audio books. I have over thirty books on my computer with a play list for every cd adding up to over 500 playlists inside of folders for each book. I want to change all of the play lists to have audiobook related columns only. I was wondering if there is any shortcuts besides going into every folder and every playlist and manually changing them all.
    What I already know: Changing the view options of a folder containing a playlist or other folder doesn't change the view options of all containing folders and playlists.
    Doug's Applescript "Assimilate view options" is for changing all of my playlists to match the view options as the library and I cannot change the library because I have over 1500 album playlists.
    If anyone could tell me how to change that I would really appreciate the help

    Hi Manish,
    There is no need to delete/inactive those entres.
    It is the funtionality provided by SAP to store the short texts for catalog in multiple languages.
    If you go to QS42 transaction with another language key selected during login.  You can find another language short text.

  • Can't play ipod songs on more than one computer since update

    I recently instaled the new itunes and ipod software on my pc. Now when I plug my ipod into any computer, the songs (and everything else) is gray and won't play. Any advice?

    Your iPod has defaulted back to automatic update that's why you are seeing grey text. Change it to manual and you'll be able to access it: Managing content manually on iPod

  • More than one "On-the-Go" Playlist - how?

    Hey!
    How do I set up mor than one "On-the-Go" Playlist without using iTunes?
    My brother is in cran canaria right now and he wants to set up more than one playlist - but he hasn't got his Mac with him.
    So, is there any opportunity to set up more than one "On-the-Go" Playlist on the iPod without using any computer???
    Greets,
    crackit

    Yes. You just create your first playlist, then save it (the save option will appear at the bottom of the playlist). Then, start your next playlist.
    They will appear in the playlist menu as on-the-go 1, on-the-go 2...
    Cheers!

  • Albums split due to more than one artist?

    I have discovered that iTunes groups albums by artist however, if a song has more than one contributing artist, a separate album is created. So where i should have 20 albums i have over 100 and its quite annoying. I have tried everything except removing the second artist name from the list to solve the problem, but that will be painstakingly slow. Is there a quick fix?

    *HowTo: Grouping Tracks Into Albums*
    Excuse the long post, but hopefully covering all the bases (that I can think of) will help you understand the cause of your current issue, others that are likely to arise as you try to organise your library & suggest ways to arrange the metadata for the best results.
    <hr>
    *Use an album friendly view*
    iTunes will let you sort music on many columns, some of which are unlikely to group albums together or put the tracks in their normal order. The most useful order for editing the library is probably the *List View* organised as *Album by Artist*. If you're not already there, select the list view and click on the column heading for Album until it reads Album by Artist. If the items you're trying to gather together are still scatted through the library use the options in the *Search Box* to narrow down the results until you can see the items you need to edit. You can also use the *Browser Pane* (View > Show Column Browser & View > Column Browser submenu) to display lists of Artists, Albums, Genres etc. Selecting one or more items in these columns will focus the track listing on matching items.

    *One cover, too many tracks*
    The iPod (and iTunes to a lesser extent) conflates two or more albums with the same title, most obviously with *Greatest Hits*. On the iPod this can result in one album acting as a combination of two or more. Selecting any cover gives all the tracks of all albums with the same title. See below how selecting either of two distinct albums with the same title gives a track listing which is a combination of both albums The workaround for this "Greatest Hits" bug is to give each album a unique title - I tend to go for *Album - Album Artist* as this reads clearly in the iTunes browser. Alternatively you could use the wording as it appears on the cover or append different numbers of spaces for each different album. Somewhat oddly, setting different values for Sort Album doesn't work.

    <hr>
    *Missing Artist or Album not with others by same artist*
    iTunes relies on the Gracenote CDDB database when identifying CD's. This often marks collections or anthologies of an artist's work as a compilation. It also seems that the iTunes Store may mark an album as a compilation in order to keep it grouped when there are tracks with guest or featured artists. However, the compilation flag has the logical function of grouping together tracks with the same album name, but different artists on each track, e.g. "Now That's What I Call Metal 666!". These compilations are then all grouped together at the end of cover flow. Most of us would expect "Greatest Hits" albums to be listed with the other albums by the same album artist. For albums which are essentially by a single album artist or group it is best to set the appropriate value for the *Album Artist* and then set *Part of a compilation* to No.
    !http://www.samsoft.org.uk/iTunes/section3.png!
    <hr>
    *One album, too many covers*
    For true compilations, where each track is by a different artist, the answer is to set *Part of a compilation* to Yes and enable the iTunes preference to *Group compilations when browsing*. If the album is not a compilation however, any tracks which list guest artists may be treated as separate items. Filling in the Album Artist field is enough to link things in iTunes. Sadly, however, most iPod models ignore the Album Artist field when grouping albums so this is only a partial solution. You can simply mark the entire album as a compilation which seems to be the way iTunes often handles it, however that's not an ideal fix. Short of waiting for Apple to address this issue (and as far as I can tell it goes back to the 1st gen. of iPods) we need a workaround. What I do is to put any additional artist info. in square brackets after the song name. E.g. *Track \[Feat. Guest\]* and then set *Artist=Album Artist* for each track. For anthologies where the Album Artist is credited as part of another group, e.g. for Cream tracks on an Eric Clapton anthology, I use *Track \[As Group\]*. For a track where the main Album Artist doesn't receive a credit, e.g. the first track of the Slim Shady LP credited to Jeff Bass, I just set the track name to *Track \[Guest\]* while still setting the artist to the album artist. N.b. I use square brackets to indicate that this is information about the track as distinct from parentheses in the song title and also use this style for Mix/Live/Bonus info.
    Since firmware version 3.x the iPhone & iPod Touch do in fact use the Album Artist field & have stopped grouping on the part of a compilation setting, however setting both *Part of a compilation* to Yes and the *Album Artist* to "*Various Artists*" will group compilation albums both in iTunes and whichever type of iPod/iPhone you happen to be using.

    *One album, still too many covers*
    iTunes may split albums into two or more sections if some tracks from the album have different values for Artist, Album Artist, Album, No. of Discs or Part of a Compilation. Tiny differences such as trailing spaces, accented characters or variants of symbols can sometimes be quite hard to spot. The iPod is also more sensitive to case variations and may split or reorder an album that looks okay in iTunes. Normally overtyping the desired value for each shared field will complete the grouping of the album into one entity. Occasionally, however, this method seems to fail. When this happens I've found that you can force every field to update properly by adding some extra text - e.g. a trailing X, which once applied seems to complete the joining of the tracks into one album. Once this has happened the extra data can be removed and the album should remain properly grouped.
    !http://www.samsoft.org.uk/iTunes/section5.png!
    <hr>
    *Tried that, there are STILL too many covers!*
    The Sort Artist, Sort Album & Sort Album Artist fields can be used to override the normal sort order. For example iTunes automatically drops leading articles (a/an/the) so "The Beatles" are arranged under "B" instead of "T". Occasionally different tracks from the same album can have different values in these sort fields which can also break up the grouping. Making the sort columns visible in iTunes can help with spotting & correcting such problems.
    !http://www.samsoft.org.uk/iTunes/section6.png!
    <hr>
    *One cover for multi-disc album*
    Multi-disc albums are often listed as *Album (CD1)* for CD 1, *Album (CD2)* for CD 2 etc. To display these properly using just one cover, each disc should have the correct *Disc X of Y* values set, and then the entire album should be given the single title Album. Being somewhat obsessive I also renumber the tracks sequentially, working backwards from the last track (so that no two tracks ever have the same number) until I reach disc 1. You can still give tracks from the individual discs different artwork should it be relevant so that the correct artwork will be displayed as the album progresses.
    !http://www.samsoft.org.uk/iTunes/section7.png!
    <hr>
    *Tracks out of sequence*
    Check that all tracks have the same/correct disc no. For a single disc album this should be either blank (my preference) or 1 of 1. iTunes will sort tracks with a disc no. of 1 before those that are blank. Just for fun the iPod sorts them the other way around so an album that is correct in iTunes may be out of sequence on an iPod or vice-versa. In addition ensure that the Artist, Album Artist, Album, Sort Artist, Sort Album Artist & Sort Album fields are consistent across all tracks.
    !http://www.samsoft.org.uk/iTunes/section8.png!
    <hr>
    *One artist, many names*
    With some artists, particularly classical composers, you should be aware of alternative representations of their names. E.g. 2Pac vs. Tupac. The menus will work best if for each artist you standardise on just one form of their name. E.g. make a choice between Mozart, W.A. Mozart or Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and then apply it consistently. For classical music I tend also to use the Composer as the Artist & Album Artist and either discard the performer details or place these into the Comments field. In some cases the Sort Artist/Sort Album Artist fields can group alternate forms in iTunes but these will break up again on the iPod. It is best therefore to use Artist & Album Artist consistently so the name is shown the way that you want and Sort Artist & Sort Album Artist to control where it is displayed.
