Songs/tracks appear only in playlists, not main library

I have a number of bookmarkable MP3 files that were generated using Audio Hijack to record streaming audio off the web (legally, by the way). These files were always visible in both playlists (smart and regular) and the main library, until I upgraded to iTunes 7. Now these files are no longer visible in the iTunes library (nor are they in Podcasts or Audio Books). However, they are still in my Smart Playlists and syncing into my iPod.
I tried just removing the MP3 files from the iTunes library (where they had been stashed in a folder labeled "Unknown Podcasts"). Now the song names still appear in the smart playlists, but with exclamation points next to them. And, of course, since they aren't in the main library, I can't delete them. Any ideas?

This one is particularly puzzling:  if I have added songs directly into a playlist, they do not show in the master list. (The library's Music list at the top of the left column). I checked a friend's Mac it was true in her iTunes 10 as well.
Yup, it is a bug.  Some people report that at the next system restart, the songs reappear in the Music library as they are supposed to.

    Hi there,
You may have better luck downloading that track directly to your device. Take a look at the article below for more information.

the problem I have since I upgraded to Mavericks version 10.9.1
The problem appears only with Mail not with other programs, not even with my browser.
When I try to zoom the text of an e-mail I received or sent , I can no longer use the keys Command + to enlarge the text, although I can reduce it with Command -.
As I have a problem with my eyes, This is a serious matter for me.
When I write an e-mail, if I select text and press Command +, it just displaces the text to the right.
Now, my husband has a USB keyboard. If he connects it to my computer, his regular Command + does not work either, but  he uses the extended keyboard, then it works. Unfortunately, he needs it for a musical application which does not work with a wireless keyboard.

Firefox 3.6.4 and 3.6.6 use a process called, "plugin-container.exe" which was using up most of my CPU when I opened up multiple tabs that contained Adobe Flash files, and caused Firefox to lock up.
My solution was to use Firefox 3.5.10 which you can get from the Mozilla website at [http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html]
I am using Adobe Flash 10.1.53.64 without any problem in this version of Firefox. Check the release notes, I believe it contains all the latest security fixes in "Firefox 3.6.4".
Hopefully, they will fix Firefox 3.6 in the next version (e.g. Firefox 3.6.7), until then you should probably use "Firefox 3.5.10".

  • New song showing in playlists, not in library!

    Hi there,
I've just added a bunch of MP3s manually but drag and dropping them into a playlist. iTunes automatically copied them to the iTunes's music folder. Everything is fine there. The songs also appears in the recently added smart playlist. But checking into my library: they are not there. I've restarted quite a bit, nothing does. And as far as restoring to a previous database goes (as per troubleshooting), I'm not convinced I want to try that right now and resynch all my devices... It's going to take a lot of time
Any pointers to what I could do to correct this behaviour before resorting to playing with the .itdb files?

  • Best way to insert missing info (in playlist or main library)

Hi, i am just new to the iTunes program. I have a lot of downloaded songs with missing info (ie. album etc). We are using two dif ipods and have set up two different playlists to separate the music.
My question is this: when i edit the missing info of a track, should i be doing it in the main library or in my playlist, or does it matter.
I am thinking that when i make changes in the main library then i may have to re-add it to my playlist...or if i enter the missing info from the playlist view that it won't make the changes in the main library and thus keep my files organized into the right folders.
Sorry for the ramble. Hope someone can help.

A playlist is simply a list of songs. It is not the songs themselves.
A playlist is simply a pointer to the song itself.
If you "edit" in the playlist, it open the songs file.

  • HT1386 How can I sync only selected playlists from my library in iTunes to iPhone?

Option to sync only selected playlists is grayed out in iTunes for my iPhone. How can I make it so I don't have to sync my entire library?

    know this might sound silly
    but make sure that
    1) sync music is checked
    2) you have playlist with songs in them
    3) your songs have some sort of sorting form on them (artist, genre, album, etc.)
    also try
rebooting pc and device and reconnecting

  • Tracks in all my playlist not linking

    Hi there
I exported my playlist and library to a new PC which has the same music tracks and folder located on it.
However my iTunes keeps asking for the location of all tracks when I click on them in every playlist.
    How to solve this problem?
    Regards
    Lee

If the filepaths on the new machine don't match those on the old then iTunes won't be able to find the tracks. See this migrate iTunes library post for suggestions on how to move a library from one computer to another.

  • Third party app can only see but not use library after current update

An application that has been using the iTunes library to play music from play lists can no longer read and use the library but can only see the library. This is happening since running the iTunes update to 12. I have corrected the problem by reloading maverick and loading music into iTunes after a fresh install. The app works again with a fresh mavericks install. So, now what is the order of operations to backdate to an earlier version of iTunes? My library can no longer be read by the mavericks install as it has been updated by iTunes 12.
I am using an external drive FYI.
I was thinking I would use the mavericks install and create a new library on the external and move the music folder to the same directory and then add the whole directory. Then one by one import the play lists.
I don't know what to do about the artwork directory? Do I move it and replace the same folder in the new mavericks library directory? Will the above process complicate the assignments?
If apple reads this... The version update that did away with coverflow was the beginning of iTunes decline. It wasn't broke. It was close enough to perfect as a library management tool. You should make the next version closer to that one.

I had a similar problem when trying to install Zinio.air. I have made it all work out. What i did was remove Adobe Air 15 entirely from the Utiliites and Library/ accounts and preferences. I then downloaded Adobe Air 13 and installed and then clicked on Zinio .air and it all installed ok. I also had to temporarily change security settings from Apple approved to Anywhere. All functioning now.

  • Can I convert tracks from one format to another so that the converted tracks appear in the various playlists of the originals?

I have a large number of tracks which I should like to convert from one format to another (aiff to Apple lossless).  These tracks are distributed in a large number of playlists.  Can I convert a track or tracks from one format to another so that the converted track appears in the playlist of the original track without going through a laborious and error-prone process of converting each track individually, determining the playlist of the original, and allocating the converted version to the playlist (or playlists, because in many cases the original track exists in more than one playlist) of the original track.

I do not believe iTunes will do this.  The files created are essentially new media files, not regarded as replacements for old files.  There may be ways to trick iTunes if you are good at editing library files but that would be more trouble than it is worth.
You can check the site below but I do not recall having seen such a script.
    Dougscripts - http://dougscripts.com/itunes/scripts/scriptcount.php?sortBy=Name&op=y - Many itunes scripts
If you're into writing Applescripts you could try it.

  • Song tracks are not downloaded properly from iTunes Store: they are not added to the playlists, and eat disk space

    Hi,
Yesterday I wanted to upgrade my wife's iPhone (5, 16 GB) from iOS 7.0.6 to iOS 7.1.
She had only 500 MB of free space, and 1.9 GB was needed, so I decided to temporarily remove a number of songs from her music library.
After this operation there was 2 GB free, and the upgrade went successfully.  After the upgrade there was still 2 GB free.
Then I wanted to download the songs again, and here something went wrong:
I went to iTunes Store > More > Purchased > Music, and clicked on "Download all".
When the download process was completed, there was about 500 MB free space, but I noticed that some of the tracks, and even a complete album, were actually not in the playlists; in another album only one of the 30 tracks or so was downloaded.  So I went again into iTunes Store > More > Purchased > Music, and indeed some of the tracks were still marked as "to download", with a little cloud in front of them.
When I tried to click on one of these little clouds to download a given track, the track seemed to be downloaded, but as soon as the download was finished the little cloud reappeared again, and the track wasn't added to the playlists.
I tried to repeat that process a few times, until I noticed that there was now only 90 MB of free space.
I then tried to download one more track that was 10 MB large, and after this there was only 80 MB of free space.
So it seems that the tracks are indeed downloaded (and downloaded again if I click again on the little cloud) in a place where they use disk space without being otherwise accessible.
    What can I do to:
    1. download the tracks correctly so that they appear in the playlists?
    2. clean up the space that was wasted?
    Many thanks in advance!

Depending upon what country that you are in (music can't be re-downloaded in all countries) then try deleting the incomplete tracks from your iTunes library and redownload them via the Purchased link under Quick Links on the right-hand side of the iTunes store home page on your computer's iTunes : re-downloading.
If you aren't in a country where you can re-download music or if they re-download in the same state then try the 'report a problem' link from your purchase history : log into your account on your computer's iTunes via Store > View My Account and you should then see a Purchase History section with a 'see all' link to the right of it ; click on that and you should see a list of your purchases ; find those tracks and use the 'Report a Problem' link and fill in details about the problem (iTunes support should reply within, I think, 24 to 48 hours).
Some people have had a problem with the 'report a problem' link (it's been taking people to this site on a browser instead of showing a form in iTunes) - if it does that to you then try contacting iTunes support via this page : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/- click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page.

  • I've imported several CDs that are "collections", with songs by various artists.  Only a PORTION of the song info appears in iTunes, and, when a song is "clicked-on" to play it, a message appears that the "song could not be found".  Any ideas ?

The CDs are imported into the "iTunes Media" folder, under "Compilations".   Each CD has a folder, with the name of the CD.  However, EACH SONG in the folder is assigned a sequential number as a prefix before the song's name.  For example "2-1 Sunshine of Your Love."  This prefix, I believe, prevents the song from being imported into the iTunes library.  The song's name appears in the iTunes library (with the number prefix), BUT no other song info (artist, CD name, time, etc.) shows in the iTunes library.   I am NOT designating these CD's as "complilations", but somehow, iTunes is arbitrarily assigning them to this "Compilations" folder, and then assigning sequential numbers to each song.    I am confused.  (My only remedy is to MANUALLY remove the prefix number from each song in the CD folder, within the COMPILATIONS folder, then "re-import" it into iTunes.  Cumbersome.)    Thanks in advance for any opinion, tips or guidance.

The numeric prefixes in filenames are probably the optional disc number, followed by the track number. iTunes will pick up the Compilation flag from the Gracenote CDDB database if you ripped the tracks with iTunes, or the flag may have been set earlier if these are existing tracks you have imported into a new library.  The iTunes naming convention is <Artist>\<Album>\[<D#>-]<T##> <Name>.<Ext> where Album Artist is used instead of Artist if not blank, and Compliations is used instead of Artist when Part of a compilation is true. Empty Artist or Album values are replaced with Unknown Artist or Unknown Album respectively. With Windows, file and folder names are limited to 40 characters. If more than one file is added with the same details subsequent tracks get suffixes to separate them.
If iTunes can't find a file that usually means that it has been moved after it was added to the library. Select a single broken track and press CTRL+I to Get Info. Look on the summary tab at the location that iTunes expects to find the file. Where is it really? Post back both paths and I might be able to figure out what has happened, and suggest a fix.

  • Why do some songs appear on a playlist but not under their artist?

I have a couple songs that will play on the iPod but can't be accessed through their artists. The only way I can access them is under a playlist. For example, I have 4 songs by Fat Boy Slim, 3 of which coming from unknown albums. When I select Fat Boy Slim under the artist menu, it goes straight to the album that the fourth song is under. The songs from unknown albums have to be accessed through the Top Rated playlist. If I select almost any other artist, it will lead me to another menu where I can choose "all" or any of the albums of that artist. The same applies to another artist where ten songs are from one album and one song is from an unknown album; the song with an unknown album will not appear under its artist. The Ipod will just go straight to the album that the ten songs are from. Does anyone else have this problem? How can I fix it? By the way, I have the 30 gig video iPod.

This may be happening because there is no album name for those songs. Since the song with an album title does show up, try naming the albums for the other three songs. They'll probably show up.
