Songs w/o Album NOT Under Artist! Why?!

Here's a funny quirk about the 5th Gen iPod. Songs by a certain artist that have no album listed aren't appearing under that artist when I browse by artist. Is there anyway to change this? Other than making the album "unknown" or something? Is there a setting I can change? I've been looking around but can't find a way to fix this without filling all the album titles as "unknown." Anyone encountered this problem? Solution? Thanks!

Adding an album is the only thing you can do.

  • IPod touch 5th gen... play all songs on all albums by an artist in album order?

    Hi.
On my old ipod classic I can play all songs on all albums by an artist in album order.  Is there a way to do this on the ipod touch 5th gen?  I can see how to play all songs by an artist but only in alphabetical order, not one album after another...
    Thanks,
    J.

You can't please everyone ... some people want to be able to find a particular song by an artist and can't remember the name of the album from which it comes. By sorting all songs by an artist alphabetically you can go right to it. But I agree with you, I'd much prefer album order. Submit your feedback via the link provided, and yes the workaround is to create an On The Go playlist, or create one in iTunes.

  • Sorting songs on an album with multiple artists

Im trying to sort an album with multiple artists so that in the artist view the song appears under that artist like this:
The song Young and Beautiful is from The Great Gatsby soundtrack but as its by Lana Del Rey and im in the Artist view I want it here with the rest of Lana Del Rey as opposed to Various Artists. I moved it here by clearing the "album artist" section in the info tab for the song.
However when I do this and change to Album view, the song doesnt get sorted with the rest of the Great Gatsby soundtrack, istead it is like this:
How can I have the songs from an album with various artists sorted by Artist in the artist tab and then properly sorted by Album in the Album tab. Ive been playing around with it for a while and I cant work it out.
    Can anyone help me out?

have you tried to mark the album as a "Compilation" album? Then the songs should sta togeeether in the "Album" view.

  • How do i get all my songs of one album together under one album artwork

how do i get all my songs of one album together under one album artwork  some are ok and some are all over the place

If the songs in your library are not all in the iTunes Music folder you can consolidate them (Choose File > Library > Consolidate Library). When you consolidate, any songs in the iTunes Library that are not in the iTunes Music Folder are copied to the Music Folder and the Library is updated to point to those new files. Files already in the iTunes Music Folder have no changes made to them: Consolidating your library - Windows

  • Songs showing up in songlist but not under artists on ipod

when going to pick songs. i can go to the songlist and pick the songs but when going under artists menu they are not there. does anyone know what the problem may be. thanks

This isn't foolproof but there are usually two things that contribute to songs not appearing under Artist on the iPod, both due to information either in or missing from the Get Info>Info tab against the song in iTunes. 1) the song is marked as part of a compilation or 2) it is missing an album name.
If the tracks are ticked in the Get Info>Info tab as part of a compilation, they will not appear under Artist on the iPod. Highlight a song in iTunes that you know is not appearing correctly on your iPod. Right click on it and choose Get Info and click the Info tab (alternatively choose Get Info from the File menu), if "Part of a Compilation" is marked untick it and afterwards update your iPod, you should find it now appears as normal. Compilations are stored in a separate folder in iTunes so the songs don't appear inside the normal Artist>Album folder which may be why this happens.
Also if tracks are missing an Album name in the Info tab, this information needs to be filled in. The no album one is a bit quirky as the songs will appear under certain circumstances but the simplest remedy is just add None or Miscellaneous in place of a title. • Music showing under albums and not under artists

I put a few cd's on my ipod and put them in a specific playlist, later I deleted the playlist. I have noticed that the cd's don't show up under artists but they are showing up under albums. Is there a way I can get them under artists again?

Thank you so much for replying. This didn't work, I clicked on get info and all the correct info was there. Kinda weird huh? Thanks Again

  • Music on iPod but not under Artists

I have recently put on some new music to my iPod (now 1year old) and have noticed it appears under the "recently added" playlist, and the album will appear under "albums", however, the artist will not appear under "artists".
It seems to occur only with artists begining with B, Beyonce and Bela Fleck are the songs I happen to have added. This may be pure coincidence, but I have not noticed any other missing artists and I have also added artist such as Travis and this has appeared as normal.
    Any help would be appreciated

  • Artists not under artists in my ipod

I've been having a problem with only a few artists, but it's just annoying and I want to know how to fix it. With the artists 'puff daddy and the family' 'juno' which is a soundtrack but i put it under the name instead of various artists also 'taking back sunday' and 'zz top' they are on my ipod because I can find them under the names of their albums, but when I look under artists they aren't listed. Is this a technical problem with the ipod classic because I just had to exchange one because it had this problem and more. It's not a problem with my ipod nano though.

There are usually two things that contribute to songs not appearing under Artist on the iPod, both due to information either in or missing from the Get Info>Info tab against the song in iTunes. 1) the song is incorrectly marked as part of a compilation (and you have Compilations enabled on the iPod) or 2) the song has no album name associated with it.
if the tracks are ticked in the Get Info>Info tab as part of a compilation, they will not appear under Artist on the iPod. If you are using iTunes 8 and view the multiple items info box the compilations setting is in the "Options" tab. Setting "Compilations" on your iPod main menu prevents you getting lots of single artist entries when you load an album by various artists.
Also if the tracks are missing an Album name in the Info tab, this information needs to be filled in. The no album one is a bit quirky as the songs will appear under certain circumstances (for instance I read somewhere that if you have at least two tracks with different album names the rest will appear), however the simplest remedy is just add None or Miscellaneous to all the blanks in place of a title. • Purchased album missing under Artists

I had pre-ordered the new Garbage album and last night I got an e-mail notifying me it was ready to download.  So I opened iTunes on my iPhone 4 and went to Downloads and the album started downloading.  I watched all the songs download then went to Music to listen to it.  I looked under Artist and Garbage and that album was missing.  So I looked under Albums and it's showing up.
I can't seem to get it to show up under the artist, though.  I have synced, rebooted the phone, etc.
The tracks are not part of a compilation so that's not it.
The album shows up under the artist section in iTunes on my MacBook Pro.
How do I get this new album to show up under the proper artist?

When this album syncs back to iTunes, you can right click on all of the songs and change the unknown to Garbage. Sync your iPhone and it will correct itself then.
Soemone just mislabled this when it was released. It happens sometimes and it's easy to fix.

  • Songs from same album not listing as within one album

Okay, here's a problem that's kind of strange. I already owned an album, bought on CD, that I have imported into iTunes. I later wanted to make one of the songs into a ringtone for the iPhone, which you can only do with stuff bought from iTunes, so I purchased the song, figuring I would just add it into the album. I changed all of the information to be the exact same between the ones I'd imported and this song from iTunes, and it sorts correctly when sorted by "Artist," but if sorted by "Album by Artist," it moves the downloaded song to being from another album, though it's the exact same, and it Coverflow it also lists them as two seperate albums though they are not.
Is there a way to get iTunes to recognize that these tracks are from the same album or is this just an anoyance I will have to deal with?
    Thanks.

In short, there are two possibilities: either you didn't actually get the information identical, or iTunes is slightly confused. Both happen to me pretty regularly.
If you have iTunes keeping your music organized, there's an easy check: pick one of the songs, right click, select Show In Finder. Is your new purchased song in the same folder as the CD you imported? If not, the information is definitely different. The most recent time this happened to me, the imported CD had the "Compilation" box checked.
Next thing: select all of the songs from the album - the imported CD and the purchased song. Right click one of them, select Get Info (or choose Get Info from the File menu). The artist, album artist (if there is one), and the album title, should all be showing. If not, it means that one of those values isn't actually the same for all the tracks.
After that's all fixed up, it's time to blame iTunes. In that case, make a small change to the artist, album artist, and album name. I just add an X to the end of the name. Click OK, and hopefully now the tracks will all be grouped the way you expect. Get Info again and put the names back the way they belong.
    Good luck!

  • Songs from same album not grouped together.

    Hello,
I just received a new ipod nano (the new ones) as a gift and all though i love it i am having some troubles with Itunes 7,
the first problem is that iTunes does not group some songs from the same album together, I made sure that all the album details are the same but still I tunes separates certain songs from the album, In case I am not clear here is a link to a screen shoot:
    http://img369.imageshack.us/img369/188/ssngtud2.jpg
As you can see some songs from System of a downs album "Steal this album" are arranged as separate songs, how can I change this?
    A second problem I have encountered is with compilation specifically with classical music, ITunes slashes the 10 track album into 10 separate songs, although I marked them all as a part of a compilation and set the preferences to display compilations, screen shots;
    http://img86.imageshack.us/img86/2387/ndctt6.jpg
    1. Is there any way ITunes can display these tracks together?
    2. If I move this album to my IPod (after setting it to display compilations) will it show them together as one album?
Thanks for your help in advance

For your first problem, make absolutely certain that there are no hidden spaces at the end of the Artist or Album fields. Also check track number of and disk number of fields. Finally, and this may be most likely, make sure that you use the same Album Artist for each song (blank, or System of a Down).
For the second issue, make sure all songs on the album are marked as "Part of a Compilation", then sort your library as "Album by Artist" (you may need to click the Album header a few times to see that). The Compilations will then be bumped to the bottom of your library. On your iPod, turn Compilations ON to see similar grouping of compilations.

  • When I download an album featuring different artists, why is it when I download it onto my iPod it goes on as single songs and only plays one song at a time?

I've got various albums on my iPod for example, Professor Green, the songs all come up serparate which doesn't allow me to listen to it all at once. I would like to know how to prevent this, thanks.

Generally all you need to do is fill in an appropriate Album Artist. For more details see my article on Grouping Tracks Into Albums, in particular the topic One album, too many covers.

  • Songs don't show up under artist

I recently got my first ipod (newbie to ipod, but not to digital music). All my songs in my itunes library have the correct artist name and song name. But after i synced my ipod, most of the songs from my library do not appear under the artist name. How do I fix this? Is there an easy way.
The songs are on my ipod, but they are not showing up under the artist heading with the other songs by this artist. It seems fine in the itunes library though. Please someone help!

The songs that are not showing up need to have an album name.
All songs should have an album, artist and song name.

  • Your Music -- Album View under Artists [iOS]

When navigating the "artists" menu under "Your Music," please group the albums together when there is more than one so we can quickly find and play a specific album, rather than just placing all the songs by that aritsts in a list.

The new update to Spotify is a massive step forward for me. No longer will I scroll down and down and down and down to find a new album in my playlists. Brilliant!
    But...Something is still missing.
The problem with the current versio of "Your Music" is that you can loose the ability to enjoy the music as the artisit indeeded, via their album. They spend days deciding what order to have the album, and with the current version of Spotify it makes it harder for you to pick out an album from the new "Your Music". All you can do is read the name under each track and work it out from there.
This is a simple fix for me. Just make the "Your Music" artisit page the same as the "Artist" page. Group the songs by album and allow is to play an album on its own.
