Songs won't continuously play

OK, I'm a techie and I can't figure out why when a song plays, it will not go onto the next song in my play list. This is really P###ing me off....can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong??
thanks!

Are the little checkboxes to the left of name ticked? If not iTunes will not advance to the next track as iTunes skips unchecked tracks.
To check all, press ctrl & click in one of the little boxes or use select all, then right click in the selection and choose check all.

  • Songs won't continuous play in playlist on itunes, Please Help!!

Just recently when I try to play my music on my computer on itunes it won't continuous play in my playlists. Just one song at a time. I cannot figure it out. Can anyone help? Any suggestions?

The songs in this particular playlist are unchecked because they are all AAC conversions that I load on my nano. For normal iTunes use, I have my songs in 320 kps. mp3s--but the files are too big for the Nano. So I keep this playlist, and uncheck the songs so I don't have duplicates playing in my regular libary. The songs don't play when checked and unchecked are together, but when it's just the complete unchecked song list they play in random order continuously until I stop them manually.
good lord ... i don't believe i've ever seen that reported before. (no real surprise, i guess ... how would people realise that something strange was happening if it was happening to them? that would keep report levels down ...)
can anyone else replicate samdogmom's itunes behavior?
    love, b
ps: didn't we talk months ago about upgrading to NIS 2006? if so, how's that treating you?

I am back with an update. I turned off Match on both the ipad and the iphone 5. By doing so I was able to sync my Iphone and ipad to itunes and store the music on my devices rather than the slow streaming.  So far this has fixed my problems with the iphone I have all my music, playlist, most of the album art and so on.  But the ipad is a different story.  I have the music and artist but not one playlist  I am sure Apple will have an upgrade soon that will address these issues they are usually very good about this.
Now have any of you experienced another problem that has existed as long as I have used faces in Aperture.
I have over 200 faces and they are organized a-z problem is I have this going on A-Z folowed by a few that start over A-Z followed by another few A-Z and again a 4th time A-Z.  Imagine how difficult it is while I am showing someone the great features of my iphone, ipad and imac.  Which I do talk highly of all the time.  But how do I explain that even though their name starts with a or b or what ever they are not important enough to me to be in the first list of A-Z or even the 2nd or 3rd list of A-Z someohow they are in the 4th section of the list!!!!
I have managed to get the Imac to fix this but for some reason the IOS devices do not.   Any ideas?
    Thanks Al

  • HT1725 i recently downloaded an album from itunes but 5 of the songs won't completely play through when i try to listen to them. i don't know if the song files are damaged or what but what action should i take to repair the files or get my money back?

i recently downloaded an album from itunes and from what it appeared, everything completely downloaded, but 5 of the songs won't completely play through when i want to listen to them. i don't know if the song files are damaged or what. what actions should i take to either repair the files or get my money back from itunes?

Assuming you are in a region where you are allowed to redownload your past music purchases, delete the corrupt tracks from the music section of your iTunes library, close & then reopen iTunes, go to the iTunes Store home page, click the Purchased link from the Quick Links section in the right-hand column, then select Music and Not on this computer. You should find download links for your tracks there.
While downloading select Downloads in the left-hand column and make sure Allow Simultaneous Downloads is unchecked.
If the problem persists, or that facility is not yet available in your region, contact the iTunes Store support staff through the "Report a problem" links in your account history, or via Contact Support.

My iPod is malfunctioning and i do not trust to synch with iTunes. This is a brand new library - complete new system install. Welcome to the Digital Age..Any help or similiar experiences??

Depending upon what country that you are in (music can't be re-downloaded in all countries) then try deleting that track from your iTunes library and redownload it via the Purchased link under Quicklinks on the right-hand side of the iTunes store home page on your computer's iTunes.
If you aren't in a country where you can re-download music or if it re-downloads in the same state then try the 'report a problem' page to contact iTunes Support : http://reportaproblem.apple.com
If the 'report a problem' link doesn't work then you can try contacting iTunes Support via this page : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page, then Purchases, Billing & Redemption

  • Song won't play continuously

I am not sure what happened, as I do not think I changed any settings or did anything differently, but who knows, maybe I did change something. Now when I try to play songs from my ITunes Library or a playlist, it will play one song if I click on it, but will not advance to the next song...neither shuffling or otherwise. I have tried going through all settings to see if something looks off but I cant find anything. Any advice anyone has would be welcomed!

He was being nice/politically correct by not telling you that you are wrong/mistaken.
You are being quite arrogant to make a statement about a conversation that you were never party to nor ever heard played back. I wish, in retrospect, that I had recorded this conversation for your benefit.
He said that the way I was using check-boxes to select which tracks were synchronized to my iPod to be correct. He also said these check boxes have a dual role and that was possibly why I am having a problem now. He **DID** agree that there was a potential conflict. It is both speculative and disingenuous, to say the least, that you can make a determination that he was being "politically correct" when you were not party to the discussion.
It has never worked this way which is why I wrote that you must have a version that no one else has.
Are you always this perverse, or does it come naturally?
I have written several times that iTunes would (previously) play continuously (all day and night if I didn't stop it) in the sequence that the tracks appeared in the list view of iTunes (according to the track sorting I had selected). Again, and I am repeating myself, this was **REGARDLESS** of whether or not the tracks were check-marked or not.
I have **NEVER** in many years of using iTunes used the check-boxes **UNTILL** I started using my iPod (about 18 months ago). Since then, I have **ONLY** used the check-boxes to indicate to iTunes what selection of tracks I wish to synchronize to my iPod. This is worked exactly as described in the iTunes help. I have no reason to change this ... it works.
I can assure you that, until recently, it played continuously, regardless of whether the checkmarks were checked or not. It would play my entire library continuously in whatever order I had sorted the library (as seen in list view) ... kind-of logical to me.
    Perhaps, there is a misunderstanding.
    Yes, I agree.
Yes, iTunes will continue to play if songs are checked and unchecked. It will simply jump over unchecked songs.
That is the case right now ... but it **NEVER** happened on **ANY** of the prior versions I installed over many years. All these versions have been downloaded from the Apple.com website, so you can assume that these are the same versions you and everyone else have downloaded.
Is you playlist shuffled? Did your songs perhaps get marked *Skip when Shuffling* (this also seems to have happened to few users when upgrading).
No. I **NEVER** used shuffling, that is until a visitor over Christmas set shuffling ON. As far as I know, this is the first time shuffling has ever been used on my system (certainly, I have never selected shuffling myself).
I was unaware of the *Skip when Shuffling* until you mentioned it (since I never used shuffling before), but have checked many tracks and none of the ones I checked have this set.
The problem I describe has occured SUBSEQUENT to iTunes having been set to shuffle mode. I seem to be unable to set it back into whatever mode it was in before. Maybe this is some kind of factory fresh (virgin) mode that can never be restored in any obvious way.
Certainly, there is a usability issue here ... go check Google with the search line "Why does iTunes only play one track" (or similar) and see what you get...
All the results show that the songs are unchecked and checking the songs results in iTunes playing continuously.
Some users, when upgrading to iTunes 8, have had all their song unchecked and could only play one song then it would stop. Cheking all songs "fixed" the problem.
    Here's a post from March 2005.
    http://forums.macnn.com/82/applications/247662/play-just-one-song-in-itunes/
"iTunes plays all songs of a list that are marked with the checkbox.
If you took the trouble to read that post (I did), you will see it is about a request to make iTunes stop at the end of the track it is playing, instead of continuing...
This is the reverse of my situation. My iTunes is behaving exactly as Ambrosa requests. I actually **WANT** my iTunes to behave in the way she describes her iTunes behaving.
    So you either
    a) Uncheck all songs in the list. It will stop playing after each song.
    b) Filter the list so that only one song is visible.
    c) Create a new list with only one song."
You are confusing this thread. This is **NOT** what I want iTunes to do. The above describes how to make it stop playing after each tune ... which is **NOT** what I want, but **IS** what is happening right now.
    Here's another from Dec 2004
    http://forums.appleinsider.com/archive/index.php/t-49285.html
    Yes, I understand this post.
This person **IS** using the checkmarks in a way that permits you to select which tracks in the iTunes library are played and which are not.
In my discussions with the Apple tech support guy, he described this to me. He also confirmed that these check boxes can **ALSO** be used to select which tracks are synchronized with my iPod.
In conclusion, he **ABSOLUTELY** agreed that these two **DIFFERENT** interpretations of the same checkbox could lead to conflict of functions in the iTunes user interface ... which appears to be precisely what is happening in my case.

  • Often songs won't play again after pausing.

I have a black, 30GB video iPod I got back in October just a little bit after it came out. Up until about a little over a month ago, I had no problems with it. But lately, after I pause a song and turn off the iPod, and when I try to play it again, the song won't play! The "play" icon appears, but there is no progress. I can use all of the other functions, so it doesn't freeze, but the only way to fix it is to restart it, which I am doing most of the time now. According to other posts I've read, a lot of other people have had this problem. Does anybody have any information about this? Any way to fix it? Or does it need to be replaced? Any help at all would be appreciated!

I am having the same problem. What seems to happen randomly, then I wake my iPod it sometimes does not play. I have the time in the title and it reads 12:00AM when the problem occurs. If I return to the main menu and then enter a different playlist the list is empty! Almost as if the iPod is not reading the HD or something. This can happen a dozen times a day or not at all. They only way to get things working again is to reset the iPod. I tried resorting the iPod but the problem continued.
I made a visit to my local Apple Store and got my iPod replaced. I loaded all my content back (which includes music and video from all sources). To my dismay the problem continues. It is my conclusion that is not the iPod hardware (as I first thought). I am now thinking it may be some of the media on the iPod. When I get time I am going to restore the iPod and load it with only a few songs and no video (my music library is over 3,000 songs).
Try putting the time in the title and see if it reads 12:00AM when the problem occurs.
Although the iPod plays great (when it plays!) having to reset the iPod so often is annoying.

  • Certain songs won't play on devices

I have an iphone 5 and an older ipod colour 30gb.
Recently the iphone wouldn't get new songs added to it during syncing with itunes.
I removed all music then readded it. It now has all songs displayed on it, but will only play some.
The ones which don't play have the stop icon next to them in the playlist view and are greyed out.
It just skips to the next song when attempting to play. These songs played previously and are fine in itunes.
They are imported not bought MP3's.
After recently syncing the ipod recently it has the same issue, showing songs in the list but just skipping over them when playing.
I am loath to restore both devices, as it would seem like an itunes issue if it is affecting multiple devices similarly.
Is it possible to rebuild my library or something, or should i restore itunes?
Im a reasonably experienced mac user so have checked what i hope are sensible things, inc d
    Ideas?
    Thanks!

    In addition I have now:
    Reinstalled itunes,
    rebuilt my itunes library,
restored my iphone and used a backup on it.
It is still doing it! The songs which won't play or are greyed out etc are different this time again though.

  • STOP continuous play of songs in itunes Iphone4

    Talk about irritating! ha!
I DO NOT want continuous play of songs in Itunes ON MY IPHONE 4.  How can I stop this?
I tried unchecking ALL of my songs (entire library) in Itunes on my PC.....and that works for NOT having continuous play on the PC......and then I re-synced my Iphone....after deleting all music from the Iphone............ but the songs still play continuously.    I do not mean the library of songs is looped.   I know how to use the "repeat" functions.
I just want Itunes to stop playing music after ONE song.   I am using Iphone to perform music and need to talk in between songs.
    HELP!
    Thanks in advance

  • Continuous play not working for songs transferred to another computer

I purchased a few albums via iTunes. When I changed computers and synced my iPod with the new computer I lost the continuous album play for the songs in these albums. If I play any song from any of these albums and when that song is completed play stops.
I do not have this problem with any copied/ripped CD music, just the music purchased from iTunes.
I did try setting the song option for continuous album play but to no avail.
    Any ideas?

Are there check marks beside all the songs? Unchecked songs have to be clicked on individually to play them, checked songs will play one after the other. If you hold down the CRTL key and click beside any song in your list then all the check boxes can be toggled on or off: iTunes - Keyboard Shortcuts for Windows

  • Continuous play of songs limited to recent downloads

About a week ago after downloading 2 songs from the iTunes Store, iTunes began only playing the recently downloaded songs continuously. No matter which song I play from my music library or from any playlist, the next song becomes a recently downloaded song. Also, if I hit the NEXT control (>>), the next song will be a recently downloaded song. If I hit >> until I get to the end of my recently downloaded songs, the player quits playing songs. I have since downloaded further songs and the same thing happens, with only songs downloaded in the past week will play continuously. Any ideas?
    MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Have the tracks become unchecked? iTunes will skip unchecked tracks, so if the bulk of your tracks have become unchecked, iTunes will play one and then skip to the next checkmarked track. If this is indeed the case, re-checkmark the tracks - Command-click on any checkbox will select or unselect them all - and you should then have continuous playback.

  • I want to play music from my playlist when I am using slideshow of my pictures in Ipad,  but I can only choose ONE SINGLE song, and it continuously repeates itself.  Is there a way to play the complete playlist while showing my pictures?

I want to play music from my playlist when I am using slideshow of my pictures in Ipad,  but I can only choose ONE SINGLE song, and it continuously repeates itself.  Is there a way to play the complete playlist while showing my pictures?

You can start the playlist playing in the iPod app and then switch into the Photos app and start your (non-music) slideshow - as you've found out you can currently only select a single track in the Photos app. Whether that will change in iOS 5 I don't know, but you could try leaving feedback for Apple : http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipad.html
