Songs wont go on my ipod

My sister and I each got an ipod shuffle. mine works, on my computer, and the songs transfer wonderfully. my sister's song transferred the first time loaded, and we went to put some new different songs on, and they wouldn't go on. the song list would update on the itunes, but not on the ipod. but when I connected it to my computer, it updated the songs. she's moving out soon, so she needs her computer and won't be able to use mine. why won't they transfer?

Hi Firemandan. I don't know if your pointed statement of "if you read the first message" was aimed at me, but I think it was. If so, well, it was a little unfair, and really, somewhat ignorant. Of course I read the post. Here are the salient points: the ipod works on one computer and not on another. The most important point is not, in fact, that they have two ipods, but rather that they have two computers on which to test the seemingly defective ipod. But it ain't defective.
On the sister's computer (let's call it exhibit A) the itunes looks like it has loaded up new songs, but upon investigation, nothing has changed. "The songlist would update on itunes, but not on the ipod" says our intrepid reporter, Heather. The other ipod, about which we don't know much, works on Heather's computer, but we don't know if it's worked on exhibit A. And I wouldn't try it, just in case Exhibit A is posessed.
Well, it sounds like a configuration problem. Configuration problems are basically a form of compatibility problem, because if the ipod and itunes can't work with Exhibit A's configuration, they're not compatible. (I know, "compatiblity" usually means whether or not a program or hardware is supposed to work on certain machines, but basically it's the same thing in this case, human will notwithstanding.) Unless Heather & sis's computers are the EXACT same computer, with the EXACT same software and registries, this problem is most likely buried in the configuration of files, drivers, etc. that makes every computer as unique and special as a snowflake.
So, back to begging for super helpful tech support.
I actually took mine back, and won't likely buy another one (it is not essential to my life) but if some of the information from my experience can help Heather troubleshoot, what the heck.
The pattern she has (looked like they had loaded but in fact did not) mirrors what was going on with my computer and shuffle. I spent a long time with a very helpful but ultimately baffled Apple tech guy, and we ran the gamut of troubleshooting procedures. No satisfaction. So I took that ipod back, got another one, and guess what: same problem. Not the ipod. It was the computer. And since the computer is relatively new, and tech guy and I did all sorts of interesting things to see if the computer was working properly, the problem, again, seems like some sort of compatibility between itunes and the computer. If we extrapolate this experience to Heather's sister's computer, this is likely a problem between itunes, the ipod shuffle, and poor, much maligned, Exhibit A.
Here is something for Heather and her sister: first: you're not alone. It may be cold comfort, but this is happening with other people's machines. Second: have you read other posts on this forum? I suspect you have, but if not, take some time to do so, since there are elements of this problem mentioned on other posts. I found one posting that mentioned something about some virus scanners causing potential issues with ipod shuffle (I turned mine off and it didn't help, but who knows about your sister's snowflake). Tech guy said something about there being an issue with Toshiba laptops (which my computer is). Is Exhibit A a Toshiba? I went on the Toshiba help site and found no mention of ipod incompatibility. But then again, I didn't search for "itunes" which is probably the culprit. See if your sister's computer's company has any sort of information on their "knowledge base" relating to configurations and itunes. (I would doubt it, since what computer company wants to announce anywhere that their machines are in fact not compatible with some of the biggest trends in tech today?)
Forums like this are usually pretty good. Thanks to everyone for constructive help. Firemandan, keep the condescension to yourself, okay? Be nice. Heck, you're a FIREMAN: chicks dig firemen. How can you not be nice?

  • Why my songs wont appear in my ipod classic after dragging them in from my macbook?

I have a very old ipod classic. After i connect it to my macbook (bought in april 2013), it detects. iTunes detects too. I dragged some songs and dropped into my ipod but after that it did not appear in the ipod. Kindly advise.

    Hi donniecgr,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
It sounds like you are trying to manually manage the content on your iPod. I would suggest reading over the attached article to confirm all of your sync settings and steps are correct.
Managing content manually on iPhone, iPad, and iPod
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1535
Manually add or remove content on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod
After following the steps above, you can add individual songs, videos, and playlists from iTunes to your device. To add content to your device:
    Select your device.
    Click "On this Device."
Then choose "Add to" in the upper right corner.
While viewing the media in your iTunes library, if you drag a song, video, TV show, or Movie a sidebar will appear on the right. You can drag content onto the device. You can also create and modify playlists directly on the device.
You must import songs into iTunes before you can add them to your device. You can drag media files onto the iPod or iPad in iTunes to add them to the device without adding them to the iTunes library.
When manually managing content, you can add content from multiple libraries to your iPod or iPad. Even when manually managing music, some content may be available from only one library at time. This includes all content on iPhone and video content on iPod and iPad.
    Have a great day,
    Joe

  • CD song wont transfer to my ipod

Songs I have previously loaded to itunes on my macbook are not transfering to my new itouch. I have reseet it and it still
wont load. Any suggestions? I have tried to manually move them over but still does not work.

  • My songs wont update to my ipod?

When I try to update songs onto my ipod, it gives me some message like "Attempting to copy to the disk has failed. The disk could not be read from or written to.", yet i have no disk in my drives.
I have tried restoring my ipod, but that hasn't helped. I have taken the shuffle out and put it back, as have I moved the cord to vaarious ports. Nothing to far has worked, so I'm asuming that it has to do with the message.
Also, when the songs are done being updated, if they make it that far before the message pops up, a little gray dot is between the song number and the title on itunes. Im concerned that these dots should not be here.
Is there anything I can do?

Have you had a chance to look at this troubleshooting document? It may be of some help: "Disk cannot be read from or written to" when syncing iPod

  • Songs wont sync to my ipod

when i goto sync my ipod i get this pop up saying (songs on the ipod"my ipod"cannot be updated because all of the playlists selected for syncing no longer exist) so if you know whats wrong can you plz help me

You get this problem when the option 'Sync Music - Selected playlists' is being used to sync your iPod. If the playlist selected is deleted from iTunes the iPod no longer has a location to sync from and you get an error. (Syncing selected playlists by the way is a useful setting to use when the iPod is smaller than the iTunes library). However you can make a new one or make use of an existing one.
Open iTunes and create a playlist to update your iPod from, call it -My iPod for example (the dash will position it at the top of the playlists in Sources). You can make it a smart playlist that picks the songs for you or just a normal one and drag whatever content you want to have into the playlist. If you are making a smart playlist limit it to just less than the size of your iPod (for example 3700MB for a 4G iPod Nano. Now connect your iPod and when it appears in the Source list click on the iPod icon to bring up the preference tabs in the main pane. Go to the Music tab and choose Sync Music and the Selected playlists radio button. Choose the playlist you just made from the selection and click Apply. You can also sync from any existing playlists by choosing the same setting, you just need to make sure that the size of the playlists don't exceed the capacity of your iPod:
How to create a Smart Playlist with iTunes
    Syncing Music to iPod
To make a random playlist go to File>New Smart Playlist.
    Uncheck "Match the following rule"
Check "Limit to" put "3700" in the number box, choose "MB" from the first list box, choose "Random" from the next list box. Check "Live Updating"
When you want to change the selection in the smart playlist just delete everything in it and it will add a new selection. When you want to change the normal playlist just delete out what you don't want and drag in a new selection.

  • Single song wont play on my ipod

I have one new song in particular that will not play on my iPod. It works fine on my computer in iTunes, but in my iPod when I try to play it, the iPod hangs for about two seconds, and then skips over to the next song.
I figured that the file must have been corrupted somehow even though it worked on my PC, so I deleted it from my PC. I then synced my iPod and chose not to transfer it so it would be removed from my iPod as well. Then, I spent the 99 cents to just buy it again. Brand new download, and the same problem is still happening.
    Any help would be appreciated.

The only suggestion I could make is to ensure that the song is aac format and/or under a certain file size. I had a problem with one song also and converting to aac fixed it-- probably because the file size was dramatically reduced by the conversion. However, if you purchased this song from the iTunes store it should be in aac it think.

Purchased 2 albums from itunes on my ipod touch.  Synced it with my PC (after updating iTunes software on PC) and now my songs (the albums I bought plus a few others) will not play on my iPod touch.  Can anyone help me with this?

  • Songs wont work on ipod, but works on iphone

hello, my songs wont work on my ipod but it works on my iphone. is there a reason this is happening? the songs are in .aiff format.
i downloaded a bunch of songs from youtube, and used audacity to convert them because i didnt like the bit rate.
i think it's the 6th gen ipod nano? its the small square one with a touch screen.
after that, i synced my iphone and the ipod nano. the songs are working on my iphone, but not on my ipod nano..

That is a problem with iOS 5 and iTunes 10.5/10.6 for many users. Sometimes unsyncing the songs and resyncing works. Other times restoring from backup works. Other users had not really found a solution.

  • I downloaded songs from itunes but they wont sync to my ipod.

  • HT1296 I recently purchased songs from my iphone.  All good...  But I then went to put them on my ipod touch.  They seemed to have downloaded but the songs wont play and the song title/the text, appears in a grey colour.

I recently purchased songs from my iphone.  All good...  But I then went to put them on my ipod touch.  They seemed to have downloaded but the songs wont play and the song title/the text, appears in a grey colour and there is a downlaod symbol in front of the song title.  what do i do next??  They play on my iphone and from the itunes library but not from my ipod touch.

If the songs are still on your ipod, make sure autosync is disabled in iTunes on your computer, connect and right click on it in the device list, then choose "transfer purchases" to copy all bought media and apps from your ipod to your computer.
If the songs are not on your computer and got deleted from your ipod as well, you can't get them back, unless you have a backup of your iTunes library as part of your computer backup.

  • I know the songs are still on my Ipod, but they wont appear.

i know that i have my songs loaded on my ipod, because there is only 8 gigs left out of 19 some-odd gigs, but none of the playlists nor the songs show up on the ipod or itunes. my photos are still on, ive installed the ipod updater and new version of itunes, but the songs still wont appear. i dont want to have to delete everything off my ipod because i have songs from other computers on my ipod that i wouldnt be able to get back. any suggestions on what to do?
ps. ive tried this on both a mac and pc. the problem occurred after i loaded my ipod onto a mac, it would play the songs off the ipod, but when i dissconnected the ipod none of the songs appeared.
using both mac and pc   Mac OS X (10.4.1)

You can try to restore your iPod... But before you do that you should get a 3rd party program like Yamipod to copy everything off of your iPod onto your computer so you wont have to worry about losing music/videos again!

  • Purchased Songs wont Sync to ipod?

Iv'e just recived a 8G ipod nano for my birthday with an itunes gift voucher. I purchased some music and then tried to sync it with my ipod but on the computer it comes up with a message box saying that it 'cannot transfer select songs because you are not autherised to play them on this computer". So I went in to the "store" option in the itunes browser and selected "autherise" but it then tells me its already autherised. So I tried to sync again but it came up with the 'you are not authrised to play this song' message again. It's strange because i can still play it on my computer but it wont sync to my ipod. What can I do?

    Hey there,
Have you tried deauthorizing the computer first and then authorizing it again to see if that takes care of anything? Give it shot. Hope it helps.
