Sonnett Aria not seeing Airport in Lombard G3

Friends,
I have a Power book G3 Lombard bronze keyboard. 333Mhz 512 mg memory. OS 10.4.9 using AIR PORT 4.2 utility. I purchased a Aria extreme Sonnett. for wireless internet. The MAC sees the card but will not see the airport. The card icon is in the upper right and the light is on. I have tried to delete the existing airport configuration as instructed by Sonnet but that did nothing. It just will not see my airport or any WIFI . Can this card pick up other WIFI ?? Any suggestions?
I have an old Skyline card when I was on OS 9. I inserted the card and of course it did not see airport. However, when I then inserted the new Aria IT DID SEE the airport. But after I removed the card and used the MAC in a wired environment for a couple of days it never worked again. It goes on but does not see the airport. So, the card works unless I screwed something up inside the card.
Mike

If you placed it into the PC-card slot, I don't believe it is supported by Apple in that configuration. Third-party cards, such as Orinoco or Lucent cards ARE supported in OS 9, and can be supported in Mac OS X with an Open_Software driver.
The Apple card in the PS-slot has no antenna, so you would need to do something about that as well. The Lucent or Orinoco cards have an antenna built into their thick outer ends.

  • Airport Utility does not see Airport Extreme Base Station

Purchased Airport Extreme yesterday at Apple Store to replace old Netgear Router. Wanted wireless network to work with 2 identical HP Laptops running XP with SP3 and 2 iPod touches, and possible future purchases of iPad 2 and Apple TV. Installed Airport Utility software from CD on Dell Studio running Windows 7. Connected Airport Extreme to cable modem and Dell Studio. Ran Airport Utility software to configure Base Station but it did not recognize the Base Station. Base Station had blinking amber light. Did have internet connectivity on Dell Studio, and wireless internet connectivity on 2 iPod touches, and on one HP Laptop. No wireless internet on other HP Laptop. But wireless internet connection was unsecured and Airport Utility did not see Airport Extreme so could not configure it to make it secure. Contacted Apple Customer support. After 30-40 minutes of attempting several different possible fixes only able to use Airport Utility to configure Airport Extreme remotely, wirelessly, from one HP Laptop, not the Dell Studio that is directly connected to the base station. Now that the base station is configured the network is secure. However, second HP Laptop cannot connect to primary wireless network. I created password protected "Guest" network using Airport Utility, and laptop is able to connect to this Guest network. From reviewing forums am now able to configure Airport Extreme with Airport Utility by using "Configure other" on Dell computer. But utility cannot find device by scanning. Would like to find way to (1) have Airport Utility on Windows 7 Dell see Airport Extreme by scanning and not using "configure other," and (2) have 2nd HP Laptop connect to primary network and not "guest' network. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Bob - Thanks so much for your quick reply. I followed your suggestions and, to go into perhaps unnecessary detail, I'll write what I did. I completely disconnected the Airport Extreme Base Station (AEBS) from my computer. I disabled Windows Firewall, uninstalled my anti-virus program, and uninstalled Airport Utility and Bonjour, recycled by cable modem (took out the battery and unplugged it for about 20 seconds), then restarted my computer. After the computer booted up, I verified that windows firewall was disabled, reinstalled Airport Utility and Bonjour, then reconnected the cable connecting the AEBS to the computer (to one of the three ethernet ports, and I tried each of them in case one was faulty) but not to the cable modem as my firewall was disabled and had no anti-virus software. I also reconnected the AEBS power chord. I opened the newly reinstalled Airport Utility software and it did not find the base station. Only when I used "configure other" was I able to access the AEBS. I recycled the modem again, but that did not help. I turned on the firewall, installed anti-virus software, connected the AEBS to the modem, the light turned green, and I was able to access the internet on the primary computer and the wireless network gave me internet access on my laptops. But I was still not able to have my main computer, the one directly connected to the AEBS able to see it, and configure it, without utilizing "configure other."
Also, any idea why one of my laptops can only access the "guest" network? When it attempts to connect to the primary network it will stay on "acquiring network address" for what seems a few minutes, then switch to the "guest" network and connect immediately.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • ITunes 10 does not see Airport Express because port 3689 is unavailable

I never had problems with iTunes 9 and Airport Express, but since iTunes 10 the following problem occurs regularly: iTunes starts, but does not "see" Airport Express (AE) as an external speaker. Sometimes it also loses connection after Windows hibernate mode, but that might be another issue.
What I found out is that it is NOT a firewall issue, otherwise it would not work once in a while. What I saw, though, is that TCP port 3689 is sometimes stolen by other apps like Mozilla Thunderbird (TB). I.e. if Thunderbird is started BEFORE iTunes, it might use 3689 as a listening socket. iTunes then cannot see AE until I shut down TB and restart iTunes. This is very annoying and I only found out after many weeks when watching TCP live connections in my personal firewall software.
    Two questions arise:
    1) If listening port 3689 is unavailable, why does iTunes not show any error message? There is absolutely no indication as to why it does not find the external AE loudspeaker. BTW, the AE config programm can connect to the hardware easily.
    2) Even if port 3689 is blocked by another application, Airfoil for Windows works flawlessly with my AE. I can even tunnel iTunes through Airfoil and then listen to music in my living room, even though iTunes does not see AE. Why can a 3rd party program do something which iTunes can't?
There must be a way to smarten up iTunes and fix this annoying bug.

  • Airfoil does not see airport express

I am running 10.6.8  and airfoil does not see airport express liek it used to.  I am using an older version of airfoil.  Any one have any suggestions so I can get my music to work through my home speakers again?
    thanks

Having a similar problem. iTunes 6.0.2 "sees" the Airport Express but cannot select the speakers associated with the Airport. iTunes 6.0.1 works on a Mac Mini with the same Express. Tried to re-load the system from the CDs but iTunes 6.0.2 still on

  • Not seeing Airport Express after Leopard Upgrade

Just upgraded by macbook to leopard, and now it's not seeing my airport express base station. the card is working fine (sees and connects to other networks) and the base station itself is connected to the internet (iphone can access it). when i turn airport off then on, system preferences will show my network as connected briefly before disconnecting, and after that i can't connect to my network again. airport utility does not see the base station.

Perform a Factory Default Reset on the Express as follows:
    Power off the Express
    Wait a minute
Hold in the reset button first, and keep holding for an additional 10 seconds while you plug the Express back in to power
Release the reset button after the hold period
Allow a full minute for the Express to restart to a slow, blinking amber light
    On the iMac running Leopard.....
Make sure that you have the wireless turned on at the top of the screen so your Mac is connected to the network
Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
When the Express appears in the window, click Continue
Enter a name for the Express and a device password, then click Continue
Select the option to Join your current network, then click Continue
Select the option for the Express to wirelessly join your network and click Continue
Click on the arrow in the drop down box and then select the name of your wireless network, or type in the name of your wireless network
    Wireless Security = WPA/WPA2 Personal
Enter your wireless network password and verify, then click Continue
    Click Update, then click Continue
Close AirPort Utility and wait a minute for the Express to restart. If your settings are correct, you will see a green light.
The Express is now set up

  • Airport wireless clients not seeing airport ethernet clients.

I have a problem with airport wireless clients not being able to see airport ethernet clients on the same base station - bonjour does not work for this, appletalk does not work for this, and Remote Desktop does not work for this either. Is there a way around this? Is this normal or a bug? I can change the last surviving ethernet machine to wireless but I if I can avoid the cost that would be good.
    Miklos.

It's ok, I got it working. I just reset the second airport, went through the "easy" set up, reset, went into manual config, changed the network to a WDS (to match the main base station) and changed the setting that allows further distribution of the network, and it's working perfectly now!!
    Hooray!!
I have to say, of all my Apple experiences, the base station set up was the least "Apple", it was confusing, complex, and somewhat erratic, but now that I have the config perfect, it seems to be working without a hitch. I just hope they can include network templates in the next software (for other people since I'm good to go now anyway) - that would be more Apple - so that people can just go bang I have this config, and perhaps for the more obscure set ups a fine tune would work off a template to get people set up faster and easier and with less confusion.

  • Airport network form time capsule does not see airport express

    Hello,
I'm rather new, bought my first apple few days ago, it's great. Have been throwing away years by using the blue screen machines
I now have mac mini, today i bought time capsule and an airport express.
time capsule to make my network and the airport express to connect my stereo.
Important: I have no internet connection yet, it will be installed in 10 days.
for now i use a mobile phone connection on the mac mini.
I installed time capsule. time machine works and airport is in the air.
With airport utility i can see the time capsule, but nothing else.
it has been there for a short time, but then time capsule was gone.
i can not find the utility to start installing airport express all over. Maybe i gave the wrong WPA2 password with the first install, but can not find the software to try again.
I placed the a.expr within 1 meter of time capsule for this test.
led of time capsule is green, led of a.expr is amber blinking.
I did a reset of the a.express, no response.
I downloaded the latest a.express client, no difference.
airport is still on. it does not see the a.express.
    how to proceed?
Is it only possible ONCE to setup a.express the right way? I remember answering questions which i can not find anymore.
    Sorry for the long story,
    hope you can help,
    Rik

    oh oh oh oh........ :O
Found it.... before i connected the a.express with time capsule by a wire....does not help!
Solution is to make this wire connection between a.express and mac, then it's possible to reconfigure.
After this wire everything worked in 5 minutes.
    Anyway.... thanks for reading...

  • Airport Extreme Base station does not 'see' Airport w/Airtunes.  HELP!

I just purchased and installed an Airport Extreme Base startion (802.11n), and it does not 'see' my Airport Extreme with Airtunes. I have already tried re-setting the Airport + Airtunes to the factory settings, but since I installed the new Base station software, I no longer have the Airport Express Sett up assisstant?!?
    What am I doing wrong?

Your Mac won't be able to communicate with your Airport Express until you reconfigure your Airport Express to join the wireless network now being created by your new Airport Base Station.
The "Airport Setup Assistant" has been replaced by the "Airport Utility". You can find that new utility installed in your Mac's Applications->Utilities folder.
    What you should do now:
    1. do an factory default reset of your Airport Express.
    2. plug the Airport Express (temporarily) into power in the same room as your Base Station and your Mac.
    3. on your Mac, run the Airport Utility. It should "see" your Airport Express. Click on the Airport Express icon, click to continue (your Mac will switch wireless networks temporarily), click Continue, and follow the instructions for configuring the Airport Express so that it "joins" the existing wireless network created by your Base Station.

  • Verizon FIOS Network does not see Airport Express

I recently upgraded to Verizon FIOs and they replaced my Airport Extreme Base Station an Actiontek wireless router. The new Router does not see my 2 Airport express wireless stations that I use for ITunes broadcasting. I tried a hard reset of the basestations with no luck.
I also tried to connect the old Airport Express into the ActionTek. It sees the Express stations but will not connect to the internet (Although I set up for a DHCP connection, it dtill serches for a PPPoE host)
The Verizon FIOs tech support is of no help.
    Please help!!!!!!!

You will need to reconfigure your 2 AirPort Express (AX) to join the wireless network provided by the ActionTek.
OR... If you want to replace the ActionTek with your AX, it appears that you will need to ask Verizon to change to the Ethernet MAC address from the MAC address of the ActionTek. Several people have reported that this is necessary.

  • Windows xp does not see airport express

I run an airport express as a base station in my apartment which works fine both for my iMac and my Palm pda. But a friend is visiting me presently, and her windows laptop, running XP, does not see my wifi station, although it sees others in the area. I tried removing security but that made no difference.
Is there perhaps was something that had to be ticked in the airport base station setup to enable Windows laptops to see Apple wifi? As for example when I send attachments in Apple Mail I have to tick a box to make them Windows-friendly.

I use Airport Express... two Macs and another laptop running Win XP and couldn't get the Win to see the network until I changed to a different card, a D-Link Airplus. I think it was all of $19.95 and works like a charm...
Also, in Airport Admin Utility/Network, make sure you have:
Distribute IP addresses checked and where it says; Share a single IP address using DHCP and NAT, click the pop up menu and select: Use 10.0.1.1 addressing.
Also, her Win might be picking up interference your iMac or Palm doesn't... try a different channel:
By default, the AirPort software automatically selects the best available channel when the base station is plugged in. If your base station is experiencing interference, try changing the channel it uses.
    To select a different channel:
Open AirPort Admin Utility, located in Applications/Utilities.
Select your base station and click Configure.
Enter the base station password if necessary.
Click AirPort, and then choose a new channel from the Channel pop-up menu.

  • Airport Utility not seeing Airport Express base station

Since I got access to cable internet a few days ago, I've been using my Airport Express base station with no problems on my MacBook. Today I tried to set up my roommate's PC (she has Vista, if that matters) so she can get online. So we downloaded the AE Utility for Windows, then reset both the modem and the AE base about two times, but her computer won't see the Express base at all when it scans.
Any ideas? Do we need to go into her Network preferences on the Control Panel or something? I've been through the manual but it wasn't much help. Sorry this is such a basic question, thanks for all helpful suggestions!

    You had everything working properly.
There was no need for her to have Airport Utility on her computer as the Airport Base station was already set up.
Set your system up the way it was and then on her computer, just have her join the network.
Do not use Airport Utility for anything on her computer.

  • Airport Card : Not seeing Airport intermittently

Using 10.4.11, my Powermac G4 sometimes does not recognize Airport-on status bar- usually after a restart . It has to be enabled by clicking Netgear. Works impeccable then.
Anything to do, with login items like Mail ? Or Temperature Monitor ? Or the ISP who have upgraded recently the Internet speed ?
Rather frustrating operation. Does not happen on the other Panther Drive. PC Laptop works flawlessly remotely.
I have reset PRAM, PMU and changed the battery without success.
Not paid much attention to Airport software updates. Any other suggestions ?
    Thanks for responding

Perhaps it is just a minor issue like a loose cable from the card to the antenna, so no signal reaches the card overall.
However checking requires opening the computer, so you may do so only if you feel yourself capable doing so. You may check out the guides at http://www.ifixit.com for your computer model.

  • Momento Device Does Not See AirPort Extreme Network

Hello all. I have a 7" iMate Momento (for streaming pictures from the Web, RSS feeds, etc.) I just bought. It is not meant to work with Macintosh computers however it is supposed to work with 802.11b/g compatible radio mode. (I have the AirPort Utility v.5.3.1 set for 802.11n (802.11b/g compatible) mode.
Here's the problem: the AirPort Utility v. 5.3.1 has no plain vanilla "WPA". I currently have "Wireless Security" set to "WPA/WPA2 Personal" because there is no "WPA" setting. I discovered on line that this Momento device will not work with "hybrid" settings which is what "WPA/WPA2 Personal" is, it seems.
The Momento device claims to support WEP and WPA-PSK (what happened to this Apple setting?) but neither has worked when I used "WPA/WPA2 Personal" or "WEP (Transitional Security Network)" from the AirPort Utility v. 5.3.1.
The next thing I tried was allowing "Access" to the MAC address of the Momento device from the AirPort Utility. No good.
I checked to make sure I was sending the SSID "in the clear" and, indeed, I am as other devices see the network perfectly so I do not have a closed network selected.
Now to make sure the Momento device was working properly I set "Wireless Security" to NONE and bam! the network shows up and I can stream photos I uploaded to the MomentoLive site to the device just fine (after having set up a free account with them and activating things).
Now I obviously do not want to not have security for my network. Do any of your see a way this device can coexist with my Apple Extreme 802.11n network? Why their WEP and Apple's and their WPA-PSK and my Apple WPA/WPA2 Personal settings cannot play nice is beyond me.
Might Mac OS X 10.5.3 address these types of issues? I know the 802.11n "standard" is in flux and maybe that affects 802.11b/g compatibility as well however that may all be working fine as it seems to be the Wireless Security settings on AirPort Utility 5.3.1 don't like their Momento counterparts.
It seems that these devices should be able to talk with each other without having to display all security!
If anyone has any workarounds or other solutions - or explanations of what I'm encountering, I'd love to hear from you.
    Thanks!
    PWRMAC

Here's the problem: the AirPort Utility v. 5.3.1 has no plain vanilla "WPA". I currently have "Wireless Security" set to "WPA/WPA2 Personal" because there is no "WPA" setting. You are correct in that there is not a "WPA Personal" option, only "WPA/WPA2 Personal" or "WPA2 Personal". As for WEP, in addition to "WEP (Transitional Security Network)," there still exists the options for either "WEP 40 bit" or "WEP 128 bit" ... but is is somewhat hidden.
These are available when operating in any of the following radio modes:
    o 802.11b only
    o 802.11b/g compatible
    o 802.11g only, or
    o 802.11a
To access these modes, you just need to hold down the <Option> key when making your selection.

  • Macbook does not see airport extreme base station

    Hi
I set up my airport extreme several years ago.  I recently noticed that, under "security," the guest network says "WPA2 secured," but the main network says "none."  Is this a problem; i.e., does the main network lack security?  Further, when I open the airport utility, it cannot find a base station.
    What am I doing wrong?
    Thank you!
