Sont HDR SR1 to Imovies 08 connection issues.

Hi. I am trying to load video from my Sony HDR SR1 to my Imac. I am using a USB. Loading the pics is easy but I cant figure out how to find and upload my videos. Can someone please help.

I have the same problem now, but some weeks ago imovie08 use to load my videos directly from my sony HDR SR1E without any problems; now my mac pro intel just recognize my videocamera as an external hd, but neither imovie08 or fce recognize my videocamera...
Could this be a problem caused by the last update of osx or imovie?

  • Importing AVCHD .MTS  and .M2TS files (Sony HDR-SR1) into iMovie 08

I've read numerous other threads about trying to get these files into iMovie 08 but I'm still having problems.
I can plug my camcorder in just fine and have it import directly off there. But for older video files that I took with this camcorder I have two folders. One with just the .MTS files that I pulled off the camcorder. And the other with the YYYYMMDDHHMMSS (.modd & .m2ts) files that I archived (using my sony software) on my pc way back when I was using my PC for video editing.
I created a .DMG that I copied everything from my camcorders HD to. I was able to mount this and iMovie 08 worked just like when I plug my camcorder in. But my problem comes when I try to work with the older .MTS and .M2TS files that I backed up. I was hoping that I could just put them in the
DMGIMAGE\AVCHD\BDMV\STREAM folder and have it import just like before but no luck there. Any ideas as to how I can go about pulling these old raw video files to work with in iMovie? Thanks.

  • How to connect Sony HDR Cx100E on imovie using USB

Hi, I am not able to connect my SONY HDR Cx100E on imovie using USB, at the same time I can connect the same to aperture and iphoto. Can any one help me please?
if you can give me the step by step info will be a great help for me.
    thanks in advance

Can't connect the camera directly to that monitor. It only has the ADC connection. What you'd have to do is capture the footage and use the Digital Cinema Desktop to view the footage.
Can't you monitor what you have on the cameras LCD, or the Capture window?

  • MacBook Pro - Sony HDR-SR1

I'm new to the Mac world. I just bought the Sony HDR-SR1 and found out it doesn't have the iLink connection. My previous camcorder was a simple connection and this is proving to be difficult. Does anyone have advice on cables, connections, etc?

The Sony, nor the JVC, HDD camcorders are not directly supported by iMovie as they use the MPEG-2 based compression rather than output DV stream. What you will need to do is the following…
    1) Buy and install the Quicktime MPEG-2 Component from the Apple Store. It's a simple download so there's no waiting around for shipping. This will also allow you to view your clips directly in Quicktime Player.
    2) Download and install MPEGStreamClip…
    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/24055
… and use it to convert your MPEG-2 files from yur camera to the DV Stream format.
    3) Import the DV Stream clips into iMovie.

  • Sony HDR-SR1 AVCHD

Does FCE or FCE support Sony HDR-SR1 AVCHD with USB 2.0? I have bought this top camera and now I want to edit it with FCE/FCP and burn this on a blue ray disc with AVCHD codes. Does apple support this camera and AVCHD codes?

    Hi BartAmsterdam
Apple also published documents like this.
Did You Know?—Importing Video From a Flash Device MPEG-4 camcorders may have a USB connector instead of a FireWire connector.
To transfer video from one of these devices, connect the device to your computer using the USB port. Your MPEG-4 camera or device appears as a hard disk on your desktop. You can open the hard disk icon and drag the video footage into your iMovie HD project or to your desktop for importing later.
When you import footage from an MPEG-4 device, your video is imported as a single clip, iMovie HD does not break it up into clips automatically. You cannot use the capture controls to import your video or control your camera, nor can you use the Magic iMovie feature to import video automatically.
Image capture (Mac HD > Applications > Image Capture) may break up the clips as it appears to do for most HDD and SD type cameras including those that use MPEG-4 for video. Personally I like this better as one doesn't have to wait to download in real time.
    Hope this helps.

  • Final cut Express: compatibility with Sony HDR-SR1 AVC HD new codec

Does anyboday know when Final Cut Express will be able to support the new AVCHS format used by the latests Sony HDR-SR1 AVC HD 30GB Hard-Disc camcorder? I'm hesitant to buy the camcorder until I know that apple will support this new codec. thx

This has nothing at all to do this with the file transfer protocol. These cameras use USB, because USB is cheaper. What you are confusing is USB support with tapeless recording systems. Macs support USB, and file transfers over USB. The FireWire/USB issue is not relevant to these formats, none of which are supported on Mac editing applications. Nothing to do with these cameras having USB or FireWire. Even if they had FireWire no editing application on a Mac would connect to them because the formats are not supported, not the transfer protocol. It's not the USB functionality that makes them non-editable on a Mac it's the formats themselves.
These are entirely consumer products for home movies, including the so-called pro-style cameras. They are designed for delivery of MPEG-2 formats, mostly DVD based. Record your movie on DVD, put your DVD in your set-top player and watch your home movie. I think all of them are MPEG-2 based. The only MPEG-2 based format you can edit on a Mac is HDV, which is a tape-based format, not a tapeless format. All HDV cameras support FireWire.
You might be able to convert the media off one the DVD discs using MPEG Streamclip or some other product. You might be able to transfer the data via USB off the hard drives built into the camera and use some other product to convert them to an editable format. None of that requires FireWire. Nor can the media in its current form be accessed from the DVD disc or from the hard drive by an editing application regardless of the connection.
If these cameras are ever supported for digital editing, then you don't need FireWire and can use USB for file transfer of the media to your computer in faster than real-time. But this is all based on tapeless digital formats that don't require real-time or less than real-time capture of digital data as you do from tape. These formats will most likely never be supported by professional video editing applications. There are already professional video solutions with tapeless recording and to date all of these support FireWire.
To say that Sony only supports iLink on past products is just plain wrong. All Sony's, Canon's, JVC's and Panasonic's professional product lines on all their upcoming cameras and decks that can file transfer over FireWire use FireWire and not USB. Some only use SDI. None use USB.

  • I'm having a problem importing AVCHD from Sony HDR-SR1 (into FCP)

I've gone through all of the posts, on this site, but I can't seem to find a solution.
I have one of the new Intel based mac pro boxes
The files are in a .mt2s format and they are currently sitting on my hard disk.
    - I can't import from the camera, directly, because it doesn't support firewire
    - FCP and iMovie both grey out files, with this extension, when trying to import them (as does MPEG Streamclip)
    - The log and transfer utility also shows the files greyed out (and nothing happens if I try to drag and drop them onto the utility)
    any assistance would be appreciated
    Thanks in advance
    John

My understanding was that you have to maintain the directory structure from the AVCHD source. Is the HDR-SR1 a supported camera?

  • About to buy a Sony HDR-SR1!

I'ma about to buy Sony HDR-SR1 ...I use Final Cut Srudio and have the latest versions of Final Cut Express and iMovie. I have a mac G5 with dual processors.
Does anyone have any expernce with the Sony HDR-SR1 and a mac? Suggestions? Able to upload video for editing?
    Thanks!!!!!

was just hoping someone could simply buy it or not<<</div>
Anyone can ... or not. Most consumer level HDD and DVD camcorders aren't really ready for prime-time yet. The formats they record in are heavily compressed (reduced quality, increased artifacts) and weren't really designed for editing.
They're geared more for the home movie-maker, which is exactly why they're marketed toward that crowd.

  • HDR-SR1 AVCHD conversion problem

I've just connected my Sony HDR-SR1 camera to Final Cut Pro v6.0.3 and opened Log & Transfer tool.
This all worked fine and the conversion process even though slow was easy enough. Now on my HD I have a ProRes 422 MOV file which plays back fine, however when I try previewing this footage on my video monitor, the footage appears very low res.
Am I doing something wrong or is there a preview setting i haven't turned on?
Could it be the ProRes 422 codec causing it?

    No answer but a questions:
after the log and transfer with the file in your project,
    under item properties, format
    is the frame size 1920 x 1080?

  • Avchd - will i finally be able to use my sony HDR-SR1

Anyone know if I can upload and edit avchd content from my sony HDR-SR1 using iDVD/iMovie '08?

Specs on this sony camcorder only reference compatible use with a PC. But you and I know it also works well on a mac via i.Link (especially with FCP => DVDSP).
Will it also work with iLife 08 ??? (Not sure). Only actual experience will tell. I did call a vendor on this camera to see if they might have the answer. She did not know either. But said she'd ask her tech dept. And get back to me on late Monday afternoon.
If I hear back from her sooner, I'll post back with a direct answer.
In case you wish to also follow up Monday the number I called is (800) 622-6255
    Hope this helps.

    Hi vmdev:
    Welcome to discussions.
Since the ToU frowns on speculation in these forums, i really can't say what I think Apple will do in the future.
As far as Hard drive cameras go, i don't know.
iMovie is designed to work with the following video formats:
    * DV
    * DV Widescreen
    * HDV 1080i (25 and 30 fps)
    * HDV 720p (25 and 30 fps)

  • HP PhotoSmart 7510 suddenly has severe connectivity issues

I have a HP PhotoSmart 7510 printer since about 2 months. Initial setup worked like a charm and the printer has been working pretty much perfectly for the last 2 months. Wireless printing, scanning and internet access on the printer (e.g. for Facebook photos) all worked. Just from time to time i would get the occasional (mildly annoying) message on my computer saying "scan to computer is currently unavailable" but it usually worked itself out and whenever I needed it to work, it did work.
But since a few days ago, it has some severe connectivity issues. I didn't change any settings on the printer, router or computer - the issues just started appearing by themselves. I startet getting much more frequent messages on my computer saying "scan to computer is currently unavailable". I noticed I couldn't print anymore, and restarting computer, printer and/or router didn't help at all. The only thing so far i managed to print wirelessly since the problems started were the first 5 pixel rows of an image I tried to print, the rest didn't transmit.
It seems the printer still connects to the WLAN but printing and scanning no longer work, and whenever I try to access a web service on the printer (like Facebook) it says it has no internet connection, even though the WLAN light is lit up (not blinking) and all the wireless status reports say "congratulations, no problems found" and display IPs etc. just like normal.
I looked at the threads "PhotoSmart 7510 connects to router, but not to the web.", "Wireless printer (HP Photosmart 7510) not connecting to network" and "Photosmart 7510 won't connect to Web Services" but they weren't a big help. Activating EWS didn't work because even though the printer showed its IP address to be 192.168.1.3, when I entered this in my web browser it didn't find the printers configuration page.
I tried the following steps from one of the threads:
    1. Restore the Network defaults
    2. Unplug the printers power cord while it is still on. Leave it unplugged and walk to the router.
    3. While the router is still on, unplug the power cord from the router, leave it unplugged for 30 seconds, then reconnect the power cord to the router. Once plugged back in the router should power on automatically.
    4. Plug the power cord back into the printer. Once plugged back in the printer should power on automatically.
    5. Run the Wireless Setup Wizard to reconnect the printer to your wireless network.
    6. Try enabling Web Services.
I followed these steps exactly. Interestingly, even though I had done step 1 and restored the network settings to factory defaults, after turning back on, the printer somehow still had its old settings saved and reconnected to the network.
It seemed to have fixed the problem, the printer finally had internet access again (Facebook app showed my photos) and scan to computer found my PC. But after just about 3 minutes, the printer had lost its internet connectivity again. When opening the Facebook app, it displayed the same error message it did before. And printing no longer worked as well.
So, what is wrong with this printer?! It has the newest software update by the way (I checked during the 3 minutes it had internet access.) My computer is a HP Windows 7 x64 machine (EliteBook 6930p) and the router I'm using is a Netgear WNDR3700.
I specifically bought this printer for my studies at university. In one week i have my exams and in order to study I REALLY need to be able to print some of my course materials! So any help as quickly as possible would be greatly appreciated. Or do you think this is a case for a warranty replacement, considering the printer's really strange and error-prone behavior?
    Thanks a lot!

I can assure you that it is not a router issue.  It appears to me that it is a driver compatibility with Windows OS.  After trying to get to the bottom of this since my Photosmart 7525 was new and reading just about every forum and blog, I have come to the conclusion that the issue must be related to the HP driver itself.
The issue does not seem to affect any Mac systems, and from one forum someone was able to fix it by downloading new drivers compatible with 64-bit systems (which seem to not be affected by the glitch).  But that leaves us 32-bit people stuck with the current driver which does not work.
The printer is connected with good signal to the wireless router (no matter who's router it is and what configuration is made).  The printer can be pinged from the router and any computer on the network which is not currently being affected by this issue.  However, the affected computer fails pings by either request timed out, or destination host unreachable.  Pings are successful from the affected computer to any other device on the network.  The only way to recover (at least for a few days) is to reboot the affected computer.
Also, from the display on the 7525, the network tests pass without issue.  I can also download and print content from the internet with no issues.
Please do a quick google search of this issue and you will see several THOUSAND entries of people with the same request.  This is a serious issue that people are having and everything is pointing to an HP problem (not routers, improper installation of software or drivers, etc...).  I agree with several other customers that HP should be on the hook for this fix.  I will give it another couple weeks, then back to the store for a reliable unit from another competitor (Canon, Lexmark, etc..)
Thank you in advance for escalating this issue to product engineering,
    S. Hunn

  • Connection doctor and connection issues

I have nothing blocking  my internet connection, however mail is a nightmare for me. I continually receive connection issues via the connection doctor for imaps, pops, and icloud.
Are my settings wrong? I have checked with each of the settings and they are set per instructions provided. Some are google, some yahoo, icloud, etc.
This is really annoying and I could really use some help.
Here is a typical message: Could not connect to this Google IMAP server. Check your network connection and that you entered the correct information in the Account preferences. Also verify that the server supports SSL. If it does not, deselect the 'Use SSL" checkbox in the Advanced tab of Account Preference"
I have done all of this and am still having troubles.
I am also receiving SMTP connection issues - "Trying to log into this SMTP account failed. Verufy that the username and password are correct."
I have checked and all are correct. Even more confusing, these issues are not present all the time - however I have not changed anything between when times are good and bad.
Sigh - I hope someone has an idea to help me out.
Thanks in advance for your time and thoughts.

  • Excel ODBC Connection Issues

I'm having some issues importing external data from an Oracle 9i database.
    Here is what is happening:
I am initially able to import data from the table I want to into Excel.
I do this through "Data -> Import External Data -> New Database Query" where I have my .ORA data source. I'm able to log in using my user and password and import the table. My problems come after I import this first set of data.
If I try to "Edit Query…" I get an error box that says "[Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Driver's SQLSetConnectAttr failed".
If I try to "Refresh Data" I get two error boxes. The first is just: "[Microsoft][ODBC driver for Oracle][Oracle]" and the next says: "[Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Driver's SQLSetConnectAttr failed". It then prompts me for the User name and password of the DB I'm connecting and after I enter the information, I get the same two error messages.
Also, if I attempt to establish another connection following the "Data -> Import External Data…" steps I run into a different problem. Upon entering the information for the User Name and password prompt I get two error messages. One says "!" and the next box says "Couldn't read this file". Once I click "OK" in those boxes, the Microsoft Query window automatically opens with nothing in it.
I can't seem to figure out why I can initially pull down data and then cannot succeed afterwards. I'm unable to connect to the DB I have through Excel until I completely closed all Microsoft Excel instances.
I also use this data source in Microsoft Access without any problems.
    My Excel version is 2003.
I'm using Oracle Drivers I'm using are from an "Instant Client" package.
Any thoughts why I'm having these connections issues?
    Thanks in advance.

    This issue is closed.
    The solution was:
"Data -> Import External Data -> Import Data"
Select "New Source" and select the "Oracle" data source and filled in the appropriate information. This was similar to the database query but it actually works.
