  • How can I connect a Sony DCR-PC110 video camera with iMovie and import my videos?

How can I connect my Sony video camera DCR-PC110 with iMovie in order to import my old videos?

    Hi
This Camera has three types of ports.
    - Analog-out
    - USB
    - I.Link = FireWire = IEEE1394 = Digital in/out = DV-terminal
And Your Camera only can send Photos via the USB-connection - NO VIDEO.
So You Must get a FireWire Cable and eventually a ThunderBolt/FireWire converter Cable to get Import to work.
There are no real way around this.

  • Got a brand new lens that came with a mark on it.. What to do?

    Hi everyone,
I just received a brand new Canon 75-300mm f4-5.6 III lens as part of a Rebel t3i bundle I ordered from a company called Cameta Camera. I took it out of the box and took the front lens cap off to inspect the outer glass because I am **bleep** like that. I saw what i thought was a few specs of dust so i capped it and put it in my bag until later that night. I tried to clean it several times and everything came off except one tiny mark that is close to one edge of the glass. I tried everything to remove it and finally I figured out that it is a defect in the actual glass, not sure if to call it a pit or a tiny scratch or what. Anyway, it bugs me a lot so i called the company and the have this process for returning that is a pain where you have to pay shipping to send it back, they inspect it, and if they decide you didnt do it, they will send a new one and reemburse you part of the shipping. It also has what looks like some air bubbles in the inner glass but i know thats normal, those are actually near the center and i hear they would not affect the image quality.
I am just wondering if you guys think this would affect the image or not and would you bother with the pain in the butt return process? I have taken a few photos with the lens but i am not sure whether it affects the image or not i am not a pro and really dont know what to look for, i do not see anything obvious though like you would with sensor dust.
I would love to hear from some pros or anyone who has encountered this or knows anything about it.. I only have 5 days to decide what to do and the 4th is coming up so i probably need to decide by tomorrow.
    Thanks

Yeah the speck is the size of a piece of dust, close to the rim of the front lens element. It looks exactly like a piece of dust but isn't one.. You have to shine a light in the lens at an angle to see it. I dont know if i mentioned or not but there is also a piece of dust in the inner lens glass close to the center but i have read that is completely normal and isnt something to worry about. At this point from what you guys said and everything I researched, i do not believe it will show itself on my photos. I am curious though why you and Skirball would tell me that, and then tell me i should return the entire kit and buy it from B&H though... It seems you guys are super biased towards B&H lol. I know B&H is good and I got my last video equipment from them a few years ago... But they cannot come close to giving me the price that I got for the stuff in this bundle. I paid less for everything I got including the camera with the extra lens, than if I had of bought the camera and extra lens seperate from anywhere else including B&H. I am on a budget so i researched heavily before buying for the best price i feel pretty good about that.
So do you think I should swap the lens just for the fact that I paid good money for it and it is supposed to be new, therefore not having any permanant specks on it (thats how i think and it seems a lot of folks do about lenses).. Or is there some other reason?

  • Rebel T4i Kit with 18-135mm Lens, STM lens like Amazon?

Amazon has it for the same price, but I noticed it is listed as the STM lens, which is a new lens specifically built for the t4I.
Bestbuy has it listed for the same price, but doesn't list it with STM.
No point in buying the same camera with an older lens from Bestbuy when you can get the same one from Amazon with the new lens.
    Hope this can be clarified.

    Hi,
Are you talking about your computer which has no firewire port ? If YES you can have one of two options:
    (a) Use FCI - Firewire card like this (preferred)
    You can buy from this:

  • Will Sony HVR-Z1E HDV Cam (PAL) work with iMovie 6.0.3

    Hi
I'm about to make a short film and have the possibility of hiring the Sony HVR-Z1E HDV Cam (http://www.sonybiz.net/biz/view/ShowProduct.action?product=HVR-Z1E&site=bizenGB&pageType=Overview&category=HDVCamcorders) for the shoot.
Has anyone here used a camera like this with iMovie HD 6.0.3? Can iMovie import the footage and edit it?
Or should I immediately be thinking of Final Cut Studio or Final Cut Express?
    Cheers
    Ewan
    Power PC G4   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   1.67ghz 2gb RAM

"..I'd only be able to use the DV shoot mode on the cam ... But you say it works well?!.."
Perfectly: if you shoot in HDV, iMovie HD converts the incoming HDV footage into Apple's Intermediate Codec "on-the-fly" (..it converts the MPEG-2 HDV into a form which iMovie can handle, retaining all the extra detail of hi-def..) and that's what iMovie edits.
You can then send your edited movie back out to a clean tape in the camera, and it's converted back to the "native" HDV format as it's exported from iMovie.
At present, hi-def DVDs can be made only by using Apple's DVD Studio Pro (expensive) software, which burns hi-def onto normal DVDs ..but they're playable only on a Mac, not on an ordinary DVD player.
So if you want to keep everything as hi-def when you've finished, send it back to tape, and not to iDVD (..which will knock it down to standard-def when creating a DVD from your hi-def iMovie project..)
Because a huge amount of processing is needed for converting incoming HDV into AIC in 'real time' (..and the faster the Mac processor, and more RAM, the better..) your G4 will NOT be able to import in real time.
You may also get occasional - temporary - glitches, in that the sound of some clips may seeem to be running slow, and be low-pitched, after importing. This is an artifact of slower-than-real-time importing, and if you quit from iMovie after importing, then restart the program (thereby clearing memory caches in your Mac), clips should play normally.
Any rendering - dissolves, titles and other F/X - will take longer than with standard DV, as there's more data per frame to be manipulated. Straight cuts should be OK.
"..an issue with the Firewire 600 port.." ..There's FireWire 400 and 800, but maybe "600" was a slip of your keyboard..
"..a lead with a four pin firewire camera plug on one end and a Firewire 800 plug on the other. Works perfectly well for the Handycam. I wonder if it'll do the trick for this bigger beast?.." ..It's never worked for me! (..Maybe I've used a badly-wired cable or two..) ..I couldn't get a 4-pin-to-9-pin (FW800) cable to work, ever, with any normal 'consumer' Handycam ..nor with the FX1.
..But you seem to have got it to work, so it may work with the Z1 after all.
"..I'm hiring so there are limits.." ..Don't forget to download the instruction manual (..when you're ready, click to download it as a .pdf here..)
[NOTE: That's for the US/International version: I can't find the European (E suffix) manual at the moment, but I'm sure you can if you Google a bit. There's very little difference between them. You'll want to choose and use 1080i/50 (UK-PAL), not 1080i/60 (US-NTSC).]
Note that - I don't know what you're shooting - you can set up focus and zoom transitions before you actually shoot them; so if you need a smooth zoom from close to distant, while changing focus, too.. instead of just pressing the zoom button and relying on the autofocus to get it right, you can pre-select start zoom and focus settings, and end zoom and focus settings, then press the 'Do-It!' button, and the camera will handle the changes as pre-programmed ..while you're busy slow-panning, for instance.
For more of a "film look" you can also use one of the built-in Neutral Density filters ..but as that opens up the aperture wider, focus becomes more critical: hence the usefulness of the pre-set focus and zoom.
I normally shoot always at a shutter speed of one fiftieth, and never let the camera choose automatically. I find this gives -s-m-o-o-t-h- action, but also provides a good range of apertures, too.
Be sure that you get a big spare battery with it, unless you're shooting near to mains power. The standard battery lasts - as with most cameras - about only 40-45 mins, so be sure to get several, or one really big capacity batt.
Shoot and replay your tests before the actual shoot, so that you're sure the hired camera has clean heads, with no 'mosaic' drop-out on the tapes.
Er, can't think of anything else ..going to watch 'Murder She Wrote' now..

  • I am having trouble with downloading videos from my Sony HDR-XR160 video camera. iMovie doesnt open up when i connect the camcorder. any suggesions?

i am having trouble with downloading videos from my Sony HDR-XR160 video camera. iMovie doesnt open up when i connect the camcorder. any suggesions?

Looking up your camera online, I found it is capable of 1920 x 1080 Full HD 60p Recording. It's the 60p (60 frames per second Progressive) that's the problem I think. iMovie '11 will do 60i (Interlaced). You might need to convert it from the format the camera currently uses into another format to get it into iMovie. Read more about it on this link here: How to import 60p footage From that message thread comes the recommendation to use ClipWrap to convert the camera's video clips now that they are in 60p:

Use ClipWrap to rewrap to QuickTime. Import the files. Edit in either 59.94 or 29.97. The latter if you want to use the high frame rate for slomo

  • INFO - Problems using L&T with Sony HDR-SR series cameras

In a situation where Log & Transfer worked previously but no longer does; this may be a result of using Finder to delete clips on the camera, rather than by deleting the clips using the camera's own file management tools. Deleting clips in Finder tends to mess up the folder structure on the camera.
Unfortunately, the only solution may be to save all your media files to your Mac and then clear out the camera's hard drive. The next recording on the camera should become visible in L&T.
    Frank

    Andy,
I have seen quite a few posts recently wondering why L&T would suddenly stop recognising Sony HDR-SR series cameras. As an SR12 owner myself I was curious as to the cause of the problem as I've never had an issue with L&T. So I've been looking out for relevant info on the forums.
Deleting files from outside the camera seems to mess up the directory structure needed by L&T and so is a very likely culprit.
However I haven't deliberately messed up my own camera to test the theory.

  • Do I need to install that software CD that came with the Sony TG5V?

Is there anyone here who uses a Sony TG5V who can answer the question below?
The box with my new Sony HDR-TG5V Handycam arrived tonight via UPS. One of the items in the box is a Sony CD. That CD, which contains software, is known to not be compatible with Mac.
My question is: Couldn't I just *not install that CD* into my computer? I am going to use iPhoto '09 and iMovie '09, not any Sony software.
Or does it have some other thing on it, without which the whole camcorder will explode?
    -L

Yes, it's me again - you just can't get rid of me!
Couldn't I just not install that CD into my computer? I am going to use iPhoto '09 and iMovie '09, not any Sony software.
I've had 2 Sony camcorders and have never loaded any Sony software. My cameras never exploded
Both iPhoto and iMovie will work fine with your camera without any additional software. It's on Apple's supported cameras list: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3290#3

  • Can you use a Sony DCR-SR60E hard drive video camera with FC-Express?

Friend of mine in OZ has just bought this camera and I am trying to help her out from the UK! LOL. The camera only has USB and does NOT have firewire. Am I right in thinking that she is not going to be able to use this camera with Final Cut Express, or is there a way round this? The shop she bought it from is useless when it comes to support. Any help would be great. At the moment I have said she would be better off taking it back and changing it for a mini DV camera with firewire.
    Powerbook 15 G4   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

You can't use the camera with FCE because it shoots in a format not supported by digital video systems on the Mac. FCE edits only DV or HDV material. This camera doesn't shoot one of those.

  • Plug-in for Alpha 7 Mirrorless camera

I just bought the mirrorless sony alpha 7.  Is there a plug in for CS5.1 that will let me process raw files?

You won't be able to convert to DNG until the raw format is supported natively, so that isn't an option for you right now. Shoot JPEG, and if you want shoot raw and convert to TIF with the software that came with the camera. I don't have any idea of Adobe's update schedule. It could be as long as 4-6 months before Camera Raw supports that camera. Then again, it could be any day, depending on where Adobe is in their update cycle. That's just something that you will have to wait to find out, unfortunately.

  • Is the bundled Whatsapp which came with the phone by default any different from a downloaded version from Google PlayStore?

    Greetings!
I'm a noob and not so much of a techie, henceforth I would greatly appreciate your input.
Referring to the above matter, it was stated on my Xperia Ion that I would need to update Whatsapp to the latest version from Google PlayStore in order to use it. Fair enough, I got onto PlayStore and found it. There was no "update" button anywhere, there were only "uninstall" and "open".
Now obviously when i select "open" this will open the app, which will bring me back to where it says that I'll need an updated version.
The other option I can choose from is "uninstall", which I pressed, and then the "install" option came soon after. Installed it and ran it without problems whatsoever.
However, I'm wondering, upon the installation of Whatsapp from PlayStore, it was mentioned that the app is free for this year, and that I'll need to pay for it upon the expiry of free period in the event I intend to continue using it, which shall be next year.
Now my question (finally):- With regards to the initial outdated version of Whatsapp that came with the phone (which I have deleted), will I need to pay for the app upon the completed usage of a year too, similar to the newer one I've downloaded from PlayStore?
    Please advise. Cheers!

it's the same thing, not all phones have the preloaded app, this varies by region and/or carrier

I lost the USB cable that came with my phone (wt19i Live With Walkman). However, the charging power adapter still here.
I don't have any other cable.

  • Capture no longer working on HDV camera with HDV setting - only with NTSC.

I have a Canon HV10 HDV camcorder. It was working fine with HDV 1080i60 settings in Easy Setup last week. Now FCP wont see this camera with these settings or HDV 1080i60 Firewire Basic. It will only see it with standard NTSC DV set.
I have been doing some captures with my Sony TRV-900 DV camera since the HV10 was last used. Did this somehow mess something up? I have tried switching it a few times in Easy Setup and it only works with DV NTSC. Anyone with any ideas?
    Thank you!

My bad. I accidentally switched the output of my camera to DV instead of HDV sometime last week and forgot. It works now.
