Make sure that it is connected to a USB 2.0 port and not a USB 1.1 as 1.1 will not provide power for connectivity.
Try it in a different USB port and see if it works

HP pavillion or sony e series laptop?

i am looking for a laptop for college. which one is better for light use and worth the price. HP - 15.6" Pavilion Laptop - 8GB Memory - 750GB Hard Drive special features include backlit keyboard, beats audio system, hd webcam and finger print reader. Sony 15.5" vaio e series laptop 6gb memory- 750gb hard drive special features include Bluetooth; backlit keyboard; HDMI output

This is going to sound like a cop-out, but assuming they're comparably priced, I'd strongly suggest going with whichever one has more comfortable keyboard. Your hands are going to spend a long time on those keys, so having something that you can type on comfortably is a huge plus.
In terms of specifications, both of those machines are more than adequate for light use and the 15.6" screens are going to give you the most value for your dollar (they get more expensive moving in either direction from that point). I would be sure to try closing the screen on 'em both a few times-they're consumer grade laptops, which means the quality of the hardware can vary widely and there are some out there that just don't feel solid.
As far as the brands are concerned, my experience has been that the Sonys tend to be a little more solid but also a little more expensive to repair and replace stuff like chargers. I've had good experiences with HP, but they feel a little lighter to me.

Synchronizing 2 Sony XCg series cameras

Hello I am new to lab view and am looking into synchronizing two cameras (GigE) from Sony. If anyone has experience with this and can provide some input, it will be most helpful.

If you need high levels of accuracy in the timing of the acquisition you'll need to use the trigger lines of your camera. Otherwise you would be relying on software timing and the latencies of the GigE interface which are not necessarily deterministic. The spec sheet for your XCG camera indicates that you can use pin 11 of the 12 pin connector to trigger the camera. You'll need to use a DAQ card or some kind of hardware that you can generate a digital pulse from to trigger the two cameras simultaneously. This topic is discussed in much more detail here by another NI employee. In terms of the LabVIEW programming, you'll also need the IMAQdx drivers, which are part of the Vision Acquisition Software package.
For your future reference, this type of question would be better suited to the Machine Vision forums, but feel free to respond here if you have any more questions.

Sony Z-series

Have you guys experienced air applications draining the battery of Z-devices?
My game uses around 100-120mb of ram and eats 5% in 10 minutes on the z2.
The z3 gets very hot during use.

I chose this camera over the full size Sony Alpha Series cameras due to its smaller size and the "coming soon" SEL18200 lens that was on the Sony website, in-box literature, and BB-online. Still waiting.........If I can't get this lens at Best Buy, can I exchange this camera for a full size Sony that has optional lens' available. What is the problem with getting this lens?

The only way to stream directly to your TV would be if it is an AirPlay-enabled device.
There are many AirPlay-enabled devices but I am not familiar with Sony's products. If yours do not specifically indicate AirPlay capability, then you need an AirPlay-enabled device such as an AppleTV connected to your Sony TV or Sony AVR.

Lightroom will not read sony ARW files

I understood the latest version of Lightroom supported the recent Sony A7 series, whose RAW files are Sony's own ARW files. I have the latest Lightroom but it will not read these files.

Here is a list of the Sony A7 series cameras that Lightroom supports, and the version of Lightroom required. The Lightroom versions are in the highlighted area.
If you are certain you have the appropriate version of Lightroom installed, then provide more information. Can your operating system browser see the raw files? Have they been downloaded to your hard drive? What operating system are you using? What is the exact version of Lightroom?

I'm trying to upload videos from my Sony HDR-CX550 camera and the files that contain the video (.cpi or .mts) are all grayed out on iMovie. I've been able to upload footage before onto Apple computers but now it doesn't seem to be working. Suggestions?

I've tried many different options including calling Apple Customer Support and talking to them for over an hour troubleshooting the issue. They couldn't do anything. I also called Sony who failed as well. Somebody please help me out. Thanks!

For versions previous to iMovie ’11 v9.0.1, including iMovie ’08, ’09, and ’11 (v9.0 only):
To import the AVCHD content from the camera when MPEG-2 content has also been recorded, you must first import and erase the MPEG-2 content from the camera. You should then be able to import the AVCHD content.

If you get a compatible camera, you won't need software to convert footage... FC will do it for you.

Fix for Sony Z2 users with Elements Premiere

I have a new Sony Z2 series laptop and just purchased Adobe Photoshop and Premiere Elements 10. They both installed fine and run with no problems. BUT...if you use the Sony Power Media Dock (PMD) which comes with the Z2 laptop and is used to hook up 3 additional monitors, you will encounter a Windows error message when trying to open a project in Premiere Elements. The error message is generic and says Premiere has encountered an error and will then close. I called Adobe tech support, but after holding for over an hour, I hung up.
Upon doing further research, I found that Sony has released a new video (GPU) driver *unofficially* and is only available for download from the German website via a direct link. I found this info at NotebookReview.com in their Sony forum. I'm providing a link directly to the thread which includes the new driver download link:

After installing this new driver, Premiere works perfectly. Hope this can help out others and hope Adobe will add this to their knowledge base. The Sony Z2 series is a relatively new model, so I'm suspecting this issue to come up more in the future.

Labview driver for Sony EX frontend (also known as 01dB-Metravib Orchestra)

I am looking for information on a third party driver for the Sony EX-IF10 data acquisition frontend. I know sony made a driver as it was advertised in promotional materials. Unfortunately the division of Sony seems to have been sold.
Very similar hardware (identical) has also been sold under the name 01dB-Metravib Orchestra.
Any help is appreciated.

I’ve been working with Sony EX series professionally for many years. Sony Manufacturing Systems Corporation manufactured and promoted this system and later also discontinued it, officially because of environmental reasons in the production line. They later also went away from the data acquisition market were they had been successful earlier on with tape recorders.
So what is your current Sony EX Series system configuration, do you only have hardware or do you also have Sony PCscanIV software?
The Sony EX series driver is only for 32bit OS and EX-UT10 interface doesn’t support multiprocessor operation or hyper threading technology. I only use computers were I have disabled multicore and run on one single core. Can be run on multicore but not stable in my experience.
Regarding third-party software I had a contact with Sony Manufacturing Systems in Japan and the MATLAB mexEX subroutine were never sold or even finalized. Sony Manufacturing Systems didn’t want me to use or try it. As for LabVIEW Sony Manufacturing Systems are the supplier so only if someone else has a driver.
With the other software suppliers you only need the Sony EX driver and maybe a dongle. I use Head Acoustics Head Recorder software witch support all Sony EX modules and several other DAQ units, works with a licensed dongle.
Sony EX series was delivered with Sony PCscanIV software for acquisition and post processing. You had the option of STD / ADV / PRO / RTA on a license dongle.
The system was hardware supported up until 2015 some spare part may still be available.

I have a sony handy cam and it saves movies to a smart card. I can put the smart card in the macbook and it will move them to Itunes but I cannot put them into Imovie. Is there a way to move them directly to Imovie from the USB port on the camera?
