Sony A77 RAW file problems

I just converted to LR from Aperture, and when importing pics into LR, they have a lot of noise and and aren't as crisp as they should be.  I'm shooting with a Sony A77 in RAW format, so I don't understand the issue with the noise and clarity, but I've heard there might be a conflict between the Sony RAW files and LR's data converters.  Any help with this will be appreciated.

It’s all about what the Default settings are for Lightroom, which if you look is no luminance noise reduction and a linear contrast curve and neutral toning in the Basic area.  You can change the defaults to something else if you find a set of toning values that you always find yourself using.

  • Sony A77 raw file support

I looked up here http://www.apple.com/aperture/specs/raw.html and saw that the support of Sony A77 raw file is there. However, after I bought and installed the aperture, it does not support the raw file.... iMac OSX 10.7.2 and the aperture is the latest one.

I actually did the camera raw support 3.9 update but I still can not open my a77 raw files.
I find out that the problem is, all the raw files I imported into Aperture before I did the 3.9 update
are still not supported. All raw files imporrted after the 3.9 update installed can now be viewed and edited.
    Thank you for the answer

  • Sony A77 Raw Files Won't Import Without Crashing

Ever since I upgraded to Mountain Lion on my 15" Macbook Pro Mid 2010, iPhoto crashes when I try to import. So far I have reinstalled Mac OS X 4 times and iLife (after deleting everything) once. This is from the crash log "*** Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInvalidArgumentException', reason: '-[__NSArrayI removeAllObjects]: unrecognized selector sent to instance 0x1eef4b70'." I have no idea how to fix this.

Is anyone else having this problem with the Sony Alpha 77 (A77) and its Raw files?

    OT:  Sony DSLR talk.
Your response indicates you took my comment as a challenge to your decision.  It wasn't.  I own both.  The a900 has the biggest, brightest viewfinder ever put on a camera.  It's worth experiencing sometime.  Michael Reichman reports (discussing the Nikon D800/e):
    Optical Viewfinder
There has been so much attention paid to the latest generation of mirrorless cameras and their electronic viewfinders that it's worth mentioning that as good as they are, a full-frame optical viewfinder through a large glass prism is still the gold standard. I discussed this with an illustrative example in my recent Sony NEX-7 Six Months On Report.
But, having said that (as Seinfield was wont to say), this isn't the biggest and the brightest OVF on the market. A Sony A900, for example, is much brighter. Not that the D800/E is poor in this regard, it just isn't brilliant (literally and figuratively).

  • Sony A77 raw files

Is there a download that will allow elements 8 to process my raw files from my Sony A77.   I spent a load on this new camera and prefer not to upgrade to
Elements 10.  Have enough on my plate learning how to use the new camera.  Don't need to have to learn a new Elements too.

You can download the free adobe dng converter 6.6 to convert your files into dng copies which should open in the pse 8 camera raw.
Pse 8 can only be updated to 6.2 camera raw itself which doesn't support the Sony A77.

  • Sony a77 raw files look noisy/grainy when opened on cs6?

    HI
i'm having problems with my images looking quite harsh when opening the raw files, this didn't happen on the trial version, i've only just got the cs6 from adobe so is there a setting i need to change?
    thanks Andy

You misinterpreted me.  I meant that without seeing what you're seeing it's hard to provide accurate help, and that answers would be more like "shots in the dark".
Can you please post a photograph (or small crop from one)?  Perhaps even a link to a representative raw file, with which someone else could try and reproduce what you're seeing.

  • Sony RX100 raw files converted with DNG converter not recognizable

Since  installing Maverick 10.9.4 on the Mac, Sony RX100 raw files converted with DNG converter are no more recognizable.
    Somebody else the same problem?

I know my DNG files themselves and the info they contain are fine. But they're not properly supported in Mavericks 10.9.4 and I don't plan on switching to Windows. A file that I converted to a DNG using Adobe software is now listed as an unrecognized file in OSX. No thumbnails, no iPhoto, no Aperture. Essentially, no support. And this is a problem. A quick search will show you people with various Sony cameras (A7, RX100 mkI and mkIII, at least) having the same problem.
No matter where the blame falls, the simple fact is that if you shoot with various Sony cameras, use Adobe software to convert the file to DNG and happen to be an OSX user, you're files are no longer compatible with OSX or Apple's photo software. They will only open in Adobe software. You literally get a warning message from OSX saying, this is an unsupported file type when you try and open it.
Like I said previously, I've had a managed iPhoto library for about 5 years now, numerous hours of tagging and organzing, and every DNG file converted from a Sony ARW RAW is currently unsupported. Original ARW files work just fine. It's nuts. Maybe it's Adobe's fault. Maybe it's Apple's fault. It really doesn't matter. If DNG is not a reliable standard format under certain edge cases (Sony ARW, DNG converter, OSX Mavericks), it's not a reliable standard format at all. I just hope that Apple or Adobe figures this out, so that I can get those photos back.
In the mean time, certain users such as myself just can't rely on DNG. End of story.

  • Sony A77 ARW files in LR 5.2 do not show...

    Hi there,
some time ago I was "suddenly"troubled that my Sony A77 Arw files dit not show up in Lr 3 no more. I recently upgraded to 5.2 but same problem...
On the same laptop they do show up in PSE 12 strangely enough.
Maybe I overlook something but any help/suggestion is welcome as I am truly stuck. Thanks!

    Hi thanks for replying.
I am using the most recent version of LR on a dell lattitute W7.
I import the files and convert them directly into DNG.
When in the library it shows meta details like in the screenshot below. But the actual immage is not shown. This counts for the ARW files but also Jpeg or Tiff files. As said before the image is shown in PSelements-12 and also in Sony sw itself(PMB) I am  afraid I overlook something simple but I cannot get my fingers behind it. Thanks for any help!

  • Hello: I am using OSX 10.9.3 Lightroom Version 5.4 Camera Sony A77...Problem: importing the foots form chip or from the camera the GPS-position is not shown in lightroom. Using the bridge there they are. What have I do do? Thanks

Hello: I am using OSX 10.9.3 Lightroom Version 5.4 Camera Sony A77...Problem: importing the foots form chip or from the camera the GPS-position is not shown in lightroom. Using the bridge there they are. What have I do do? Thanks

Please read this: Adobe Lightroom - Find moved or missing files and folders
You do not want to be in the Import section of Lightroom, you want to be in the Library Module. You don't want "Update Folder Location", you want to ctrl-click on a Folder name (not in Import, but in the Library Module Folder Panel) and select "Find Missing Folder"
You do not want to re-import photos that have already been imported, this is almost always a bad thing to do.

  • How can I process a Sony A7 RAW file into Photoshop CS5.

How can I process a Sony A7 RAW file into Photoshop CS5.  I tried the file DNG converter 8.3, but it did not work.  I was able to download it, but upon reading the memory chip from Photoshop CS5, it reads the jpg files fine, but not the RAW files.  I thought the DNG converter 8.3 was the right file, but apparently it is not.  Perhaps I need to do something in Photoshop CS5 to initiate it, or place it in a particular directory.. Please help.

First of all, you should have used the Adobe DNG Converter 8.6, not an old, obsolete version.  Always use the very latest version.  8.3 was simply the first ACR version to support your camera model, that's all.
Note that the DNG Converter works only on folders, not on individual raw files.  Put all your Sony raw files in a folder and run the Converter on that folder containing the raw files.
I have absolutely no clue as to what on Earth you mean by : "upon reading the memory chip from Photoshop CS5".
You also need to make sure that CS5 is fully updated.  You cannot rely on the highly and notoriously unreliable Adobe auto updater to tell whether you have the latest update installed or not.
I still have no idea what platform you are on, Mac or Windows. Please read the following for next time:
    BOILERPLATE TEXT:
If you give complete and detailed information about your setup and the issue at hand,
such as your platform (Mac or Win),
exact versions of your OS, of Photoshop (not just "CS6", but something like CS6v.13.0.6) and of Bridge,
machine specs, such as total installed RAM, scratch file HDs, total available HD space, video card specs, including total VRAM installed,
what troubleshooting steps you have taken so far,
    what error message(s) you receive,
if having issues opening raw files also the exact camera make and model that generated them, etc.,
someone may be able to help you (not necessarily this poster).
A screen shot could be very helpful too.

  • Is the Sony ARW raw files supported in Adobe Photoshop Elements 10?

I downloaded and installed CameraRaw_8_8 and installed it, restarted my Adobe Elements 10, but nothing seemed to change.  My Adobe Elements 10 still does not allow me to select a ARW raw file photo.  Am I missing something?

  • Sony a6000 raw files

I have a Sony A6000 camera and can't seem to get Lightroom 5.6 to recognize the files and download them on a PC running Windows 8.  No problem on a Mac.   The Windows PC will see it with windows explorer but can't seem to get Lightroom to recognize the raw files.  I saw some articles about downloading a a plugin for lightroom but no where can I find where to download anything.  Anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks... Gary

That camera has been supported since version 5.4 of Lightroom. Are you sure you have Lightroom 5.6 installed? There is no plug-in for Lightroom to provide the camera support. Lightroom does not use the Camera Raw plug-in.

  • Cannot open Sony A900 raw files in Photoshop Elements 10

new installation of elements 10, replacing elements 8.  Unable to open raw files (sony alpha 900)  adobe camera raw is not listed in the plug in menu, automatic updates is up to date, attempts to download camera raw 6.4 result in a message saying the update is not applicable to the application.

Before going through the document it would be helpful to select the Help > Look for updates option. Some users reported it fixed the Camera Raw 6.6 problem automatically.
If you are facing trouble opening your clicked images in Elements, there is an elaborate document which covers a number of errors, problems, and lists solutions for the same. The document can be found at: http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/multi/troubleshoot-camera-raw-photoshop-photoshop.html

  • Unable to open Sony A77II Raw files in PSE11. [was: Camera raw]

I have the Sony A77 ii and i cannot open the Raw files in Elements 11.  It says the file appears to be from a camera model that is not supported by the installed version of Camera Raw.  I have the latest version installed.  Does anyone else have this issue?

    According to this link :
Camera Raw plug-in | Supported cameras
the A77 II is only supported with ACR 8.5 which is not compatible with PSE11. It would need PSE12 with the latest ACR update.
The free solution is to download the Adobe DNGconverter.
That free and independent software can batch convert a whole folder of raw files to the DNG raw format that PSE11 can read.

  • Direct Link with Sony F55 RAW files

I'm editing a timeline with Sony RAW F55 files, when I use the new function Direct Link Speedgrade opens but the I get the "Media Offline" error.
Does Speedgrade supports Sony RAW files?
    Thanks

I got the same problem with .mov files from a 5d mark III. If you check here: http://blogs.adobe.com/movingcolors/2013/10/31/speedgrade-cc-7-1-update/  you'll see adobe is aware of that issue, but not for my case.
