Sony, are you listening to us?

On the heals of the announcement of your company losses for this quarter, your company continues to turn its back on loyal customers who have purchased your products.
The latest is the decision to shut down the Mylolabs website for all of the Mylo users out there. Not only did you stop supporting the product after about a year after each model was brought out, but now you shut down the website along with all of its files and widgets.
You also refuse to assist us with perhaps being able to develop software modifications even though you will not update problem areas of the device such as the lack of Yahoo Messenger support which you advertised as working.
Why is it that other companies continue to support products with updates, etc, long after the model is removed from sale. I bought your product over the Itouch because you promoted it. I actually bought 4 of these devices, 2 com ones and 2 com twos.
I have been in touch with your company many times to no avail. As a result, I stopped purchasing Sony products and just furnished a brand new home with electronics from most every company but Sony. When you go into a store, the salesman mentions Sony and all you have to do is mention support and he goes on to show you a different manufacturers product.
Where is the Japanese work ethic we have heard so much about? Its unfortunate that your company has suffered a loss last quarter but I am sure that until you start listening to your customers and gain their support back, this will continue.
Thanks for listening to my rant and I apologize for its length. Its been a very frustrating experience.

  • What are you listening to right now?

So, let's kick this place off. Remember this is the off topic thread so try to keep discussions on phones in it's dedicated threads and not here.
I am thinking music for this thread - what are you listening to right now? It doesn't have to be right NOW. It could also be the album or artist you've been playing non-stop for the last week.
Me? Mastodon released their new album recently. It's called The Hunter. Great album!

you know what i was thinking the same..i was going to make a thread as off topics only but thought no one would participate
i just listened to the track you mentioned..
    awesome guitar play
but i used to listen to this genre back in may i think
now i love to listen to these songs

  • Hello? Skype are you listening? We want more PRI...

For several years we have been asking for more privacy.  I have my privacy settings set to keep no history, yet even after clearing the chat history, the chat sessions continue to reappear on other devices.
Many, many, many users have complained about this.  Back in 2011, a Skype support agent said acknowledged the problem and said that it would take some time to correct.  How much more time do you need?
Are you listening to your users?  Or just defending your poor software privacy?

Hello Apple are you listening ?
Usually: No, as this is only a user2user board.
You may want to contact iTMS CS through email instead.

  • Apple, are you listening?

I have to ask, what the heck is going on lately?
    - Not all artists appearing in iPad music player when using home sharing.
    - Wrong album are in iPad music player when using home sharing.
    - Wrong movie cover art in iPad video player when using home sharing.
    - Apple TV sometimes doesn't see shared libraries.
    - Apple TV disconnects from shared libraries after playing a few songs.
    - Apple TV took over an hour to update after estimating six minutes.
    - iPad music player somestimes hangs and just quits
    - iPad video sometimes can not be operated when playing a movie, gets stuck.
    - iTunes on windows7 shows a black screen or is choppy when playing video, win media player can display the same files without problems.
Yes, all my software is up to date. None of these problems are new or unique to me.
Can you at least acknowledge these issues and provide a response? If you already have and I just haven't found it yet, please respond with a link.

No, Apple isn't listening. This is a user-to-user technical help forum hosted by Apple. Apple does not participate here. We are all just users like yourself.

  • Mail & IMAP = Drafts folder from **** (Apple are you listening?)

We are using Mail 2.1.1 (752.3) and run a CommuniGate Pro Mail Server v4.3.12. As we are collaboratively working on our email, we are forced to rely on IMAP.
Unfortunately Mail.app seems to have a strange misbehaviour in saving IMAP messages as drafts although they have been shipped.
I sent about 25-30 emails a days, and my drafts folder keeps growing (crowded with mails which already have been sent). This is VERY annoying and renders the drafts folder almost useless.
There is a suggestion to store the drafts locally instead of server-based, but that wouldn't allow us to share drafts across the office before sending them.
The that there are at least 7 other discussions on the same topic (see links below), shows you that this is indeed an issue what Apple needs to address.

I'm not trying to shoot the messenger, just trying to determine if what he reports is a reasonable basis for concluding a Mail bug is its cause. There are a number of reasons I am hesitant to do so, among them:
    1. There are few reports of similar behavior. Among those he mentions, few actually are similar beyond a few points of commonality, or lack enough detail to conclude anything about a common cause.
    2. There are a variety of potential causes for this sort of thing besides a Mail bug. Among them are corrupted files in the OS or application, interference from third party additions that change Mail's or the OS's behavior, & server-side problems, including mis-configuration, use of non-standard IMAP transactions, & reuse of message ID's before they are retired.
    3. Many of the reports of similar behavior say it is intermittent, changed suddenly, or is confined to one account.
    4. Prematurely deciding that the cause must be an Apple bug leads to ignoring troubleshooting procedures that could resolve it.
As I said, it is possible this is the result of a bug, but it is historically more likely it is the result of something users can repair or correct without waiting for a fix that will never come.
Just complaining may help, but not here. This is a user-to-user discussion forum, with an emphasis on interactive help with diagnosis & resolution of issues. The more specific users can be about the nature of & circumstances surrounding the symptoms & the steps they have taken to try to resolve them, the more likely it is that someone can help. Sometimes, that help is confirmation that a bug exists, but much more often it is a procedure that shows that the real problem is something else.

  • Repair iTunes? Apple employees - are you listening?

My coverflow art in iTunes seems "glitchy." And what I mean, is that as you scroll through them, the image gets distorted for a few seconds. It never did this before.
Also, the scroll bar below the album covers has "disappeared."
Is there a way to "repair" an iTunes installation without reinstalling?
    Please help.
Apple employees are welcome to respond.

Apple employees except on rare occasions will not respond here. These forums are user-to-user only.
That's not to say that no one here can help. We'll need more information, though: what version of iTunes you're running, some basic system specs, where you're getting your album art (from the iTunes Store or imported from other sources) and what if anything has changed on your system since last it worked correctly.
Meanwhile, though this article doesn't specifically cover "glitchy" operation, the tips suggested might help:

  • Korean / CJK INPUT on 8330: RIM Are You Listening?

It's official. I am on the brink of meltdown!!!!!!!!!!
It is extremly frustrating not being able to install
Korean / CJK INPUT on my 8330 Curve.
I've done quite a bit of Googling and ended up installing
multilanguage version of handheld software on my BB
which flawlessly displays CJK. However input method is
still limited to English UK and English US.
When I was just about to give up on CJK Input,
I saw a thread of hope from the above.
According to sources (BB Forums, Pinstack), using EastAsia
version of handheld software, CJK input was successfully
installed on SOME Curves. Holding onto that thread of hope,
I've countlessly tried installing CJK Input  using "EastAsia
version of handheld softwares for 8300, 8310 and 8320" onto
my 8330 but failed miserably each and every time.
I demand EastAsia version of handheld softwares for 8330!!
(or anything that enables CJK Input!!)
Do not underestimate the size of Asian American market!
Message Edited by numbaz on 11-19-2008 11:21 AM

You demand???   Maybe we should demand that Americans speak English!
RIM releases the OS's to carriers and the carriers release them to the customers.  CJK versions of the OS are tough because the carriers don't release those versions in the US.  There are very few CDMA carriers in Asia (though, there are a few) so there aren't many options for carrier sites to download from.
I recommend going through the list below and looking through the Asian CDMA carriers and maybe you'll find a version that supports CJK input.  You may not find the exact OS version you're looking for, though.

  • Flash won't install – hello, Adobe, are you listening?

I am running Yosemite 10.10.2 and cannot install Flash v.17 plug-in on my Macbook Pro. Like so many who have already posted, I get a General Installation Error and the install fails. As far as I can tell, the only solution that has been posted works in some cases, but not in all cases. That solution involves downloading the full install version, deleting old versions of the plug-in, doing a general system cleanup, restarting, and then installing the new Flash player. I do not plan to follow this process because I do not want to delete my current plug-in. I have seen posts from others who did this and now have no Flash player at all, and are unable to install even prior versions of the plug-in. Why in the world would Adobe release an update that doesn't work? Didn't Adobe think it would be a good idea to test the new version with Yosemite before releasing it? Or do they not care? The posts I have seen from Adobe staff have been completely unhelpful and even adversarial. This is inexcusable. I wish developers would adopt an alternative to Flash because this program is nothing but a memory-hogging headache, and now it won't even install. What a joke.

    Hello,
This morning we resolved a problem that prevented Flash Player installations from completing for some of our Macintosh users.
If you encountered this problem, please delete any previously downloaded Flash Player installer and either:
Download the installer again from https://get.adobe.com/flashplayer, OR
Download the stand-alone installer posted at the bottom of the http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/installation-problems-flash-player-mac.html in the ‘Still having problems’ section.
    Thank you.

  • SDO API Bug? Oracle are you listening?

In the Javadoc for the JGeometry it states the following for the createLinearPolygon...
Creates a JGeometry that is a simple linear Polygon without holes. Note that if the supplied coordinate array does not close itself, meaning the last coordinate is not the same as the first, a new coordinate will be appended to the end of the input coordinates array. the new coordinate repeats the first one.
Any time I add a geometry to the database that does not close itself I get a coordinate of 0,0 appended to the SDO object in the database.
Anyone else have the experience? Am I doing something wrong or are the API's incorrect? Easy fix just was curious.
    Thanks

    Siva,
Pardon my newbie like question, but I am assuming you mean Oracle 10.1.0.3 (10g?) and not API version 10.1.0.3?
    Thanks much

  • Last chance! Apple are you listening?

I posted this last night on another thread. It really suprises me to see how many people seem to be having similar issues with installing the Nano or iTunes on an XP machine. The responses always sound like a broken record - reinstall etc. What I haven't seen is a solution for this when the
standard Reset, Retry, Restart, Reinstall, Restore fails! At this point I'm afraid to try anything else on my own for fear of losing the 4.3 GB of music that I have on the machine!(I already had to salvage my libray once going back to iTunes 4.9 from 5.0). I hope someone from Apple reads this and can give me some other advice, if not the Nano is going back to store......today.
I've been at this for about 16 hours over two days now. I cannot get my Nano to be recognized by my iTunes(4.9 or 5.0). I've done everything that has been posted, Reset, Retry, Restart, Reinstall, Restore (all of these multiple times), clean uninstallation of iPod, Itunes and Quicktime, then a completely new install of all software starting with a stand alone Quicktime, then using the supplied disk from the Nano for the iPod updater and iTunes 4.9. I've purchased a new USB 2.0 PCI card, disabled system services, and everything else that has been posted in the Apple support articles and Discussion postings. If I go to new a new install of the iPod updater, and connect the iPod as instructed, it will eventually recognize the iPod, format the iPod, then reboot the iPod, then it tries to reboot it again and then says it needs to be formated again and again and again and locks up. If I go to install the iPod updater and check the box that I "do not want to connect the iPod" I can install the program, and try to do an iPod reset. This is done with difficulty, but even this eventually locks up after the iPod reboots. In the "My Computer" window, the iPod is only shown as "Removeable disk (M;)(yeah, I tried renaming the drive too...)shouldn't it be called "iPod"? I can never get to the point where I am asked to Name the iPod. Other info: when I've done these installs, I've disabled my antivirus (AVG), firewall(ZoneAlarm),and anti-spyware(Spybot), as well as remove my USB printer (Epson Picturemate), I've tried the new USB 2.0 ports as well as the old USB 1.1 built into the machine. Another tidbit of info, I took the iPod and software to work with me today and installed it on my work machine (a Pentium III with only USB 1.1 support) and it loaded and worked flawlessly. Can anyone help me? I'm ready to go back and return this to the store and get my $250 back, it shouldn't be this hard.....Plus I've noticed in these posts that people say you need iTunes 5.0 to run the Nano. If you need iTunes 5.0 to run Nano, then why does Apple package iTunes version 4.9 with the Nano, that just makes no sense, plus if you look at the iTunes posts you wouldn't want version 5.0 with all of the problems people are experiencing. My frustration is now becoming overwheming...I just want what I paid good money for to work as advertised and marketed, this whole process has been a complete waste of my time. Unless someone at Apple can come up with a reasonable solution, I'm going to return the unit, and Apple will lose a customer permanently.

I have a hunch I know what your problem is. Is your computer at work equipped with USB 2.0? You can check this by going into the properties of USB ports the computer has in the Device Manager; if they're USB 2.0 Enhanced should be part of the device's title. Please note that not all USB ports may be USB 2.0 (usually a motherboard chipest limitation). Since your profile says you have a USB 2.0 PCI card installed my next guess would be that your USB 2.0 PCI card has a IRQ conflict with either your motherboard's onboard USB controller or its onboard sound card. Please note that sometimes one computer's onboard USB 2.0 will work fine while and a addon card will cause problems (this is very typical of some hardware which hasn't been widely enough tested in various brands of PCs as well as home built PCs unfortunately). If by chance you have a PCI sound card installed the onboard sound must be disabled manually through the computer's/motherboard's BIOS CMOS Setup program. I mention this only as sometimes onboard sound left enabled can cause problems (again this is very typical when not all hardware in a PC has been widely enough tested by the various manufacturers). Usually the computer announces a key or key combo to press to enter the BIOS CMOS Setup at boot time. If you've already disabled the onboard sound make sure there are no leftover drivers still installed for it. That alone could be enough for Windows XP Pro (though it could happen to any version of Windows probably)to crash or kernel panick or act glitchy like you describe is happening. The easiest way to check for a IRQ conflict is to use the Device Manager; anyt conflicting devices will have a yellow triangle with an exclamation point in the middle or a red circle with a white exclamation point in the middle. Please understand that if the issue causing all of this is an IRQ conflict resolving it may not be easy; IRQ conflicts occur at a very low hardware level and as such can be hard to diagnose and deal with properly. You might want to try installing iTunes 5.0 but only as a last resort. I agree that the iPod Nano should work with a PC out of the box but that isn't always the case and this is more true of the PC than the Mac. As proof of what I'm saying if you install a USB 1.1 device on a computer with integrated USB 1.0 I can almost guarantee that a hardware conflict of some sort will occur unless a USB 1.1 hub is used as a arbritator to slow down the commmunication to USB 1.0 speed that the older motherboard actually understands as this happened with my first computer/PC I ever built (also my first PC I owned).

  • Hey Adobe, are you listening?

I have read al the 1.1 posts and yes, I know it will be out when it is ready. I am very annoyed that an update to support the Mark III was not released in the interim. I do not want to convert my files to DNG. It's my choice and I choose not to.
I am giving this another week then going back to Aperture.

    >Then you are just shooting yourself in the foot. DNG is a perfectly viable interim solution. --
    Wolf Eilers
It may be technically, but not if you have a photo editor that wants the original raw file. Then it becomes a workflow issue and you may have just blown the assignment.
    >You do not HAVE to delete the original NEF! --
    Jao
You'd be smart not to. That may be needed for archival purposes. However, having two work streams -- one native RAW+XMP, the other DNG does complicate version control issues.
    >In an ideal world of course we'd have a Universal RAW format that was acceptable to everyone, but in the real world that just aint going to happen - it's called 'commercial competitiveness'. --
    Alan Ingham
You might be right. Camera makers have traditionally secured their markets through core proprietary technology (lens-mounts comes to mind). However they've also been open to some universal standards -- especially peripheral product (ye olde screw thread cable releases, filter threads). At one time there was even M39 & M42. However I believe proprietary RAW data rests somewhere much closer to the core interests of camera makers and there is strong resistance to just GIVING that away.
However, since camera makers have taken on the responsibility for film -- for example how saturated the tone (Kodak, Fuji, Agfa), how wide the dynamic range (transparency vs negatives), and how clumpy the noise (ISO equivalents) -- they also hold the responsibility for managing those expectations. I'm not sure that's a responsibility they want in perpetuity.
At this point, it's still in the hands of the camera makers. DNG is generally not well received outside of an Adobe workflow, and the few camera makers that do support "in-camera DNGs" don't make up any substantial part of the market. The fallback option is native RAW format + XMP, but as more people invest time and money in workflow production tools, the camera makers are pinched to find a solution on two fronts:
The first: Managing their roadmap to obsolete product.
The second: DNG will have matured enough to become the most practical container choice.
    >However, I find that in about 10% of my images that Capture does a better job. --
    Foster Irwin
You are not alone in that observation. It could be IQ ... but it could also be the ease by which that IQ is achieved. While you can modify presets in ACR and LR, it's a big obstacle for many photo graphists to get a series of images to the same place that Capture, Bibble, NX can right off the start.
    >Since the RAW file is the digital equivalent of the film negative (IMO), it seems unethical for any camera mfgr. to make the RAW file proprietary in any way. --
    Mel Lammers
How would that be any different from software companies using SDKs or private maker notes to keep you from using your layered TIFF files or possibly DNGs with other tools? Is it unethical to use LR or PS? It's our data ... but the key is held by the software mfgr. :~)

  • Apple Support??? Are you listening??? Manual calendar sync???

    I had a simple question:
How do I manually sync Calendar and Contacts with Exchange?
I and others have asked this, but no response from Apple. Is there any way to submit a question to Apple? I heard such great things and this is my first Apple product, but there seems to be no support - i can file a bug report of feature request but it goes into a black hole.
Today i noticed I had a calendar appointment in Outlook but not on my phone. I change its time, added notes, etc. but it would not sync. Finally i copied it to later in the day, and it did sync. I deleted the original, and changed the time on the copy, and now i have it.
I really thought that when Apple announced the 3G with ActiveSync support, that after 6 months of dev time, and a mature protocol like ActiveSync that this would be a slam dunk - wow was i wrong.
The Calendar and Contacts features on the phone are not ready for enterprise at all. I can't display some contacts by business name first - it is ALWAYS by person name. Calendar doesn't allow you dial an embedded number for a con call. I feel like i am living in the windows mobile world many revs ago......

Blackberry has opposite issues, calendar events that don't disappear even though they are deleted in Exchange and outlook.
I agree they all have some issues, but I am really frustrated that Apple claimed enterprise support and a business enabled phone, yet they left out basic usability queues to the user. All I want is a way to know that my calendar and contacts are up to date. A "last synced date" at the bottom like Mail does would be simple and easy - or just a big ActiveSync "Sync" button and a message that said "Sync of Contacts, Calendar, Mail" successful.
I have read numerous articles regarding the pains Apple goes to for Mac usability, even where a button is placed. But i think they skipped the usability testing in order to get ActiveSync support out the door.

  • Sun Microsystems, are  you listening?

I've been going through many of these posts on this message board only to notice that so many Java and would be Java programmers are having the same problem with animation as I am. Many of the problems seem to stem from the Graphics.drawImage() method. Simply put, we are asking the JVM to draw an image on a buffer. We are NOT asking the JVM to schedule a time to draw nor are we wanting a thread to be spawned. What we need is the image to be drawn to the buffer and a return value of true or false when the function is complete. Most importantly, we want the process of drawing an image to begin the moment drawImage() is called without delay!
If in your wisdom you feel that us lowly programmers need your help with timing issues, feel free to wait for the next horizontal refresh. But only do so if you can accomplish that feat with skipping a refresh. Otherwise, I would prefer to handle my own timing.
drawImage() is a command to be carried out immediately, not a leisurely request.
    Ron_W

I'm testing this app on several different workstations to find some very disturbing differences. First of all, on a Windows box, it's running at about 32 FPS but smooth as glass. On a Linux box it runs at about 52 FPS but very jerky. However, on the Linux box, if you keep the mouse in motion (and on the applet), the graphics become much smoother (tolerable) until the mouse stops.
What seems to be happening here is that the paint() function is getting scheduled and then performed whenever. Therefore, several of the frames, get "dropped". Keeping the mouse moving might be giving the paint() function a higher priority, and therefore painting is happening immediately. My gripe is that there is no way for me to code this desired effect, despite the fact that the JVM can handle the command. (As demonstrated by moving the mouse around the screen)
Thanks for the advice, but I don't believe that is the answer. I am using a doubled buffered technique. You can see that for yourself if you like by viewing this code.
    http://astrodust.com/games/somegame/CptWydner.java
If you follow the code you will see that the function act() renders graphics to the back buffer and the function paint() simply paints the buffer to the applet. If you have 2 machines, one running Linux and one running windows, you will also the aforementioned difference in performance by running this applet. You can see what your FPS is by opening the Java console.
    http://astrodust.com/games/somegame/applet.htm
If anyone has an OS other than Linux or Windows (especially Mac OS X) I would really like to know what your experience is in reference to this applet.
To answer your question about the true/false return, I was thinking a true on success and a false on failure at the time I wrote that statement. However, since then I've considered the fact that a try/catch block or an integer return might be of more value. An example integer return might be 0 for no errors or an integer code for the reason of failure. More of a C mindset I guess. The "Java" way would obviously be the try/catch method. Either is preferred to not knowing when the painting is done.

  • LENOVO ARE YOU LISTENING? X301 Communications Issues

I'm posting this to the forum only because my calls to IBM (1-800-IBM-SERVE) support center to inform of problems inherent in the new X301 seem to fall on deaf ears.
As we now have several X301's and all have the same problems, you would think that Lenovo would want to hear it.  But tech support says "It's a new machine and someone will eventually update the drivers."
It was clear to me that they were not taking note of the reported problems nor would there be any effort to report our issues to engineering.
    The problems we reported were...
VERIZON WAN internal radio is off but the light on the keyboard says its on.
VERIZON WAN radio frequently disappears from the "Access Connections" program.
VERIZON WAN fails to connect to the network 75% of the time when using Lenovo's Access Connections but will connect 100% of the time when we use the VZAccess Manager Program.  This program is not included with the laptop but can be downloaded from Verizon Wireless.
Internal Wireless (8211.x) radio will often fail to reconnect when coming out of "sleep mode".
Battery seems to drain while in sleep mode.  A battery charged to 100% and then put into sleep mode will loose 25% of battery in 10 hours which seems very excessive.
My opinion is that the x301 is a great, fast and light machine but that the drivers particularly when it come to integration with Lenovo's Access Connections program need to be improved.
Lenovo technical support seems lethargic for the most part and there is a disconnect between this entity and the engineering folks.

I agree--I believe all x301's are experiencing these issues.
I just forwarded a link to this thread, along with the other thread with Mark and I going back and forth on the WWAN issues, to my Lenovo Account Rep of many years (Sr. Sales Specialist / Sr. Account Executive).
She assured me that she was forwarding my email to the X Series Product Manager.
Hopefully we can get this resolved with the help of everyone...
I will definitely report back when/if I hear from anyone in regards to these issues.

  • MODERATORS: Are you listening?

75% of the postings on this bulletin board are people with pirated versions of Logic Studio, whining that their serial numbers don't work.
This is an Apple run bulletin board, is it not?
Why can't the topic of serial numbers be stored somewhere else, so that people like myself and other serious Mainstage/Logic users can get down to the business of helping fellow musicians accomplish what they need to do?
Finding a cr@ck of Logic Studio on the internet is as easy as finding p0rn.
Logic Studio is enjoying quite a bit of popularity these days, and there are a lot of people out there who have the dream of producing their own songs.
Unfortunately what that means, is that there are a lot of really silly questions that get posted here, and I bother to answer those silly questions, only to find that only 2 out of 1500+ user base bother to answer mine!
What I am suggesting, is that a branch of this bulletin board be devoted to serial numbers/operating software/incompatibility issues so that I don't literally have to go through hundreds of pages to get some meat.
My second suggestion, is that we DON'T lump Logic users with Mainstage users.
Yes, I understand that Mainstage is a part of Logic Studio, but they are two very seperate programs that do very different things.
I have been a Digital Performer user for nearly 15 years, and I am NOT about to jump ship!
I have been a Mainstage user for just under a year, and my sole purpose for purchasing Logic Studio was to get my hands on Mainstage.
Mainstage could very well enjoy the kind of popularity that Ableton Live has enjoyed, but it NEEDS to be sold seperately.
Maybe I truly am alone here, but I would rather see a bulletin board dedicated to Mainstage alone, and not have to sift through topics related to Logic.
    TREATMENT

Honestly, I really don't care about points, I look at it like karma:
Someone has a question that I know I can solve, I do it.
No matter how ret@rded it may be, because I have this idea that
possibly when I have a question, someone might do the same.
Over at the above mentioned bulletin board, I spent most of yesterday
    doing just that.
It has been a very different experience all together, and my email box was
flooded with responses, including one that solved a nagging problem I was having.
I am very much a believer in what goes around comes around, and the moderators over there seem to be on the ball.
As I mentioned in my original post, I don't enjoy the experience of flipping through page after page of people with serial number/install issues, I am far more interested in helping people who are trying to make better music.
There is also a certain sect of the population who will NOT read a manual, who pride themselves on "diving in", and find it easier to post on a bulletin board rather than actually do any work or research.
In this modern age, we are so very lucky to have bulletin boards in the first place, along with Youtube "how to" videos, Lynda videos etc.
It's disgusting to me that people take advantage of that simply by taking it for granted.
I have been active in this business for over 15 years, and I can tell you I remember walking into recording sessions 10 years ago where the producer kindly me told me to leave the room just in case I happened to "catch" any of his "secrets."
For example, the reason why so many musicians know absolutely nothing about how to use a compressor, is because back in the day, knowing how to properly compress a mix was considered a door opener. People who knew little secrets like setting a low attack time on a snare hit in order to make it "pop" didn't share that information, and it was kept as a closely guarded secret. Kind of like a club of magicians.
Now we live in a very different world where information, and even music is expected to come for free. For the younger crowd that got an email address when they were born, it's difficult for them to understand why some people may not be so willing to help them.
My approach to information is that if someone is seriously stuck on something, it is my duty to help them out. It's like playing a gig for charity...you just do it.
My approach to bulletin boards is that I put my line in the water, and I check back later in hopes that I caught a big fish.
Some of the users on this board have been very helpful in getting me over some walls.
But recently, I find my posts read by 50 different people, and not a single response.
I can only assume that the people here don't actually know the answer to my question, so I have no choice but to look elsewhere!
