Sony Bluray Player BDP-S570 kills my wireless on my WRT160N

Hi all!
I have a Sony Bluray player BDP-S570 that is hard wired into the Linksys WRT160N router.  When I turn on the bluray player it is the only device in the house that has internet.  It kills the wireless and the internet to the other wired devices.  I've done most of everything that I know to do.  Any ideas, suggestions?  Is there a setting that I'm missing?

Did you try to upgrade/re-flash the firmware on your router?
If not then download the latest firmware from Linksys website and save it on your wired computer.
Open the setup page of the router and upgrade the firmware on your router.
Change the MTU size on the router to 1365.

  • Are the shared files accessible to a sony bluray player

I have a Sony BluRay player that allows me to shared media from a Windows 7 PC.  Will the shared files located on an external hard drive attached to the Air Extreme be viewable on my Sony BluRay?

Although the AirPort Extreme has a NAS function, it does not include a DLNA-compliant Media Server. You would need some type of this server (hardware or software) to stream any multimedia files located on the AirPort Disk to your Sony Blu-ray player.

  • Sony Bluray player gets weak signal, rarely able to play Netflix

Hello, I got a brand new Sony Bluray player for Christmas about 6 months ago.  I have always had connectivity issues with the internet.  My current situation is the worst yet.  I share wifi between myself in a granny unit on the backside of a main house.  The modem/router is new - just went to comcast to switch for the best they have - and is placed by the backdoor so it is as close to my place as possible.  My laptop and cell phone connect to the signal but my bluray still has issues.  I was able to play netflix for the first time last night but it froze every 20 seconds.  The only way to stream without interuption is to play netflix on my laptop and plug it into my tv with an HDMI.  This is annoying however bc the main reason I got the bluray was to avoid this.  How can I rectify this situation?  Booster?  A different kind of unit to operate Netflix and Hulu on - Wii?   Any suggestions would help!  Thanks! ~Kelsey

If your unit is on the same electrical panel as the main house your best bet would be a powerline ethernet adapter. If not then you could try a wifi extender. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/netgear-powerline-500-nano-ethernet-adapter-kit-white/7394184.p?id=1218844155446&skuId=7394184

    Hi Michael,
It sounds like your router's authentication is set to WPA and thus where the key is established. Does your MacBook Pro connect to a wireless router? If so, that's where you'd need to get the key from via a web-based control panel for the router or if it's an AEBS via AirPort Utility.

  • Sony Blu-Ray bdp-s570

I just bought this for my husband for Christmas.  Best--Buy rep said if was the best model for our needs and it looks great.  One HUGE problem is that while it does go on our home network, it refuses to view any of the files it states it should; .avi, .divx, etc.  I'm seeing on other posts that after calling Sony, this model will only play MPEG-2 files off the net and all others are by USB drive only.  Is this normal?  It did not state this, whatsoever, in the manual.

From my understanding the BDP-S570 will stream AVI, DiVX, etc when DLNA is enabled on the player and the video comes from a DLNA device such as a Windows Vista or Windows 7 PC. Also check the players firmware for the latest version.

  • Sony Blu-Ray BDP-S570 won't connect to iMac

    Hello everyone,
I'm trying to connect my new sony blu-ray player to my iMac wirelessly. My iMac is set up as an airport base station, and I have no problems connecting my iPhone to it to use the internet.
Internet sharing is turned on, and i'm using a 40-bit WEP password. Every time I try to connect my blu-ray player, it connects to the network, but cannot connect to the internet. Anyone else have this issue? Any ideas? I'm pretty frustrated.
    Thanks!

Hi there I'm having a similar problem with the s570 - it finds the livebox network ok but I enter the WPA password
The AirPort Extreme can use the following WPA security settings:
    WPA2 Personal
    WPA/WPA2 Personal
Which of these are you trying to use?
Is there something in the instruction sheet or setup page of the Blu-Ray player that specifies exactly what type of security settings are compatible with the device?

  • Problem Connecting Airport Extreme to Sony BluRay Player

I have a sony blu ray player (s370). I just purchased an Apple Airport Extreme. I live in an apartment complex where my internet is provided in my rent. As a result, I do not have my own modem..just a port in the wall. To get the airport express to work I connected it to this port with ethernet cable...and set the airport extreme to bridge mode. If i didn't set it like this the amber light just kept blinking. As it is, I am able to connect my computer to the airport extreme (either wirelessly OR with ethernet cable).
When I try connecting the blu ray player with an ethernet cable, I run into a problem. I tell the blu ray player to "automatically" set up the IP address of the unit. I click save and connect.. Then a message says that the internet settings is now complete.. and the unit has successfully connected to the internet. I click OK, then go to Network Connection Diagnostics.. I tell it to perform network diagnostics, and it says that "Network connections are correct".
When I actually try clicking on "internet video", however, it gives me an error that says "connection status cannot be confirmed .. the service cannot be accessed at this time because the server replied with incorrect or information."
    Any suggestions?

You cannot do it.. the extreme is designed for ethernet connection.
You can buy a wireless bridge.. an apple airport express is able to do this..
Set it up as bridge to the building wireless.. then plug the ethernet into the Extreme..
If the building uses a login webpage.. then the above might not be possible.. it does need a login via standard password.
The ultimate goal is to use the Airport to wirelessly print from my Lenovo to a Canon printer (which had been working at my previous house.)
I think you will find it much easier to plug the printer into the Lenovo and print from USB or ethernet.. forget using wireless as even if the above setup works as well as possible it is still compromised in needing to double NAT the network.

  • DVD won't play back in bluray player

I just created a DVD in DVD SP, about 5 mins long with audio. It plays back beautifully on the computer, but my sony bluray player doesn't recognize it at all. I haven't tried on a standard DVD player, but I don't see how that would help. A previously made DVD plays fine on the player. Any thoughts?
    Thanks
    Shelley

    Dear Shawn,
Still no good. In a render last night, weirdly, even in my Mac the disk was unreadable and the warning said it was blank, but I rendered again and it works fine on the Mac. But on my SONY player, nothing.
I changed DVD SP to standard in the Preferences and re-created the project from scratch. I used the DVD: Best Quality 90 minutes setting with no changes. Here is the breakdown:
    Name: MPEG-2 6.2Mbps 2-pass
Description: Fits up to 90 minutes of video with Dolby Digital audio at 192 Kbps or 60 minutes with AIFF audio on a DVD-5
    File Extension: m2v
Estimated size: 2.79 GB/hour of source
    Type: MPEG-2 video elementary stream
              Usage:SD DVD
    Video Encoder
              Format: M2V
              Width and Height: Automatic
              Pixel aspect ratio: Default
              Crop: None
              Padding: None
              Frame rate: (100% of source)
              Frame Controls: Automatically selected: Off
              Start timecode from source
              Aspect ratio: Automatic
                        Selected 16:9
              Field dominance: Automatic
              Average bit rate: 6.2 (Mbps)
              2 Pass VBR enabled
                        Maximum bit rate: 7.7 (Mbps)
              High quality
              Best motion estimation
Closed GOP Size: 1/2 second, Structure: IBBP
              DVD Studio Pro meta-data enabled
I am at my wits' end. I have two weeks to get this done for a memorial for my late father so you see my desperation.
Do you have any possibilities left? I'd go ahead and sign up for the Pro classes at the Apple Store, but in NYC I'm afraid I wouldn't even get to see anyone in time for FCP and its suite.
    Thank you for any advice.

  • [RESOLVED] MediaTomb - Sony BDP-S570 will not connect

I just installed and configured MediaTomb for use with my Sony BDP-S570 Blu-Ray player. However, the player won't connect to the media server. The connection diagnostics on the player claim that the firewall could be the problem, but I don't (as far as I know) have anything blocked internally.

Looks like MediaTomb is UPnP with some DLNA extensions, but the Sony stuff requires a strict DLNA server. I'm going through everything in the AUR to see which one will work the best for me. Any suggestions for the best one to use? I'm currently trying Coherence, but I haven't been able to get the player to connect yet.

can videos from my dropbox be played on sony blu ray dvd player BDP S580?

Hello ptsotsos, thank you for your message. Welcome to SONY Community!
Unfortunately the Blu-ray disc player cannot play videos from dropbox. When the Internet video device is connected to an active network connection, you can browse web sites or surf the Internet. However, the built-in browser is not designed to replace the web browsing functionality of a computer.
NOTE: Web pages may not display correctly and some web functions such as downloading or saving Internet content may not work properly.
    Hopefully this post helps you!

  • Configure Sony BluRay to connect to internet.

Hi. I want to connect to the internet from my Sony bdp-n460 bluray player since the TV itself is not enabled for internet. I have a cat5 patch cable already running from the only RJ45 (labeled LAN-100) on the DVD to the lone Ethernet RJ45 port on the Motorola STB. I have tried to config all the addresses for IP,Subnet, Gateway and DNS. Evidently I finding the DCHP server as I no longer get the message associated with that since I finally got the address correct. I have checked the router main settings menu on the computer connected to the router (ActionTec MI424WR) and though I am seeing both STBs listed, I do not see the DVD. I am assuming that is related to my problem, but I don't know how to configure it. Can someone assist?
    Stumped in NJ

matcarl is right - the ethernet ports on the STB are not functional, so instead of the STB you have to plug it into one of the numbered lan ports on the router (1, 2, 3, or 4).
that is the best way to do it for reliability and functionality.
if you must connect it wirelessly, then you would need the SSID and the WEP key found on the service tag of the router.  if the router is standing upright then the sticker will be on the left hand side, if the router is laying flat then you'll find the sticker underneath it.
If you want to connect it wired to the router and don't have an easy way to do that, then I would recommend you buy an HME2200 or an EB2200 moca/coax bridge.
it will connect in any room that has a live tv coax cable, and on the other end it has an ethernet.    It works great, and theres no configuration neccessary.

  • How can I get my Panasonic 3D TV and BluRay Player to go online using Time Capsule?

So I've extended my home network using my Time Capsule so that I have a stronger signal in different parts of my home. My Time Capsule isn't hard wired to the modem, but I'm now getting a stronger signal in parts of my house that never had good signal strength. That being said, I've set up my Time Capsule in my living room right next to my home theater system. I thought since Time Capsule is connected to the internet, I would be able to connect my 3D TV and BluRay player (both Panasonic) to it. I did wire connect the tv and BD player to the Time Capsule, but no connection is happening between the tv and BD player and net. Can anyone help me out a bit? Does the Time Capsule need to be hard wired to the modem for this to work?

Let's check your settings first on the Time Capsule.
Open AirPort Utility - Click Manual Setup
Click the Wireless tab below the row of icons
What setting do you see for Wireless Mode?
What type of router (make / model number) is providing the "main" wireless network that the Time Capsule is trying to "extend"?

  • Using WRT54G2 for Bluray player

Hi all- thought I would ask before attempting something that might be impossible? We have a new bluray player- Panasonic BD 60. It has an ethernet connector on the back and claims to access Picasa, Youtube etc. I currently run a WAG200G for my internet connection. I purchased a WRT54G2 hoping i can use it to connect the bluray player to the network.
If anyone wants to help advise on the setup, that would be great- ask me what other info is required to work this out!  many thanks in advance...Theo

The WAG 200G is established and functioning as the main modem/router. I use it wired for the desktop and wireless for a laptop.
The WRT54G2 is for the bluray, and that is too far away for wired- I would need to go wireless.
I keep hearing about Gaming adapters and access points and bridges- which seem to be what I should have got. I guess my question is can the WRT54G2 work as one of these?
The manual for the blu ray is not hugely useful- but does show it can set the usual parameters like IP address- auto or manual, subnet mask, gateway access, DNS, proxy server settings. I am hoping this means it looks like a standard device to the router and would therefore be ok?
    appreciate the help!

  • Extend Airport Extreme signal to BluRay player?

I have an Airport Extreme upstairs that serves the house. I want to extend the network so my Panasonic BluRay player can access the network. The player has an ethernet port and network setup in the main menu. Without running an ethernet cable throughout the house, is it possible to connect the player to a wireless router that picks ups an IP address from my Airport Extreme?
If so, how do I do it? What hardware do I need?

Check the AirPort Extreme first by temporarily connecting an ethernet cable from your computer to one of the LAN <-> ports on the AirPort Extreme.
Open AirPort Utility - click Manual Setup
Click the Wireless tab below the row of icons
The main settings to check are:
Wireless Mode = Create a wireless network
Check mark next to "Allow this network to be extended"
Jot down the exact setting that you have for Wireless Security
Update to save any changes you have made and disconnect the ethernet cable.
Then move the AirPort Express near your computer and connect the AirPort Express the same way to your computer with the ethernet cable.
Open AirPort Utility - click Manual Setup
Click the Base Station tab to name your device, establish a device password and adjust Time Zone settings
    Click the Wireless tab
Wireless Mode = Extend a wireless network
Wireless Network Name = Same name as your AirPort Extreme network
Check mark next to Allow wireless clients
Wireless Security = Exact same setting as the AirPort Extreme
Wireless Password = Same password as your AirPort Extreme network
    Confirm Password
Update to save settings. You can disconnect the ethernet cable and move the Express to the desired location and power it back up again.
