Sony Bravia showing off Front Row is it real or rigged?

That's a Sony Bravia kdlv40a12u showing off Front Row on the new Mini's marketing pages (see link below). I know because I've got that model (there's a possibility it's the TV's smaller 32-inch sibling).
http://www.apple.com/macmini/frontrow.html
After my new Mini (duo) is done with its world courier tour I am hoping I'll just be able to plug it in (DVI to HDMI since there's no VGA socket on the TV anyway) and it'll work just as well the one on the Mini's marketing pages APPEARS to be working. BUT having read all of traffic about the difficulties people are having getting their HDTVs to plug and play nice out of the box, I am beginning to wonder. I read some of the press reports of the Intel Mini's launch and it was reported that Stevie's boys and girls were using the Bravia to show off the Mini in one or the "rooms". If anybody has successfully plugged and played with this combination, please post reassuance. If you've had to tweak with Displayconfigx or SwitchRes, please can you post your timings. If non of the above, I'll let you know how I get on. I have to admit to a sinking feeling since I did try with a PPC Mini and gave up after hours and hours of borrowing and guessing Displayconfigx settings.
Thanks

Why couldn't it be the 26" model?
You should be fine - DVI to HDMI is simply a pin
format change - the signals are preserved so nothing
more expensive than some copper is needed for that
cable to work (That being said, some of the list
prices are staggering for DVI-HDMI cables)
Could be the 26". I was going by the size of the Mini next to it. Apparently SJ thinks they look "nice".
I've tested the 26" XBR model with a new intel mini -
works out of the box. (Other than turning off the
overscan which was enabled by default - I prefer to
see my dock and menu bar rather than have video fill
every pixel...)
Thanks for input (no pun intended given we are talking about DVI to HDMI!). The Mini is now in the Netherlands, so it's getting closer all the time. When it arrives I'll plug it in and let readers of this thread how it goes, looks etc. I too am not fanatical about filling every last pixel as long as those that are used are giving their all in terms of clarity.
Cheers

I too have the same problem.  The audio drop out of sync in about 5 sec in not uncommon for the audio to be 30+ sec behind video.  Apple needs to fix this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   its a joke,  my iphone is all messed up after the last update as well.  at one time not to long ago apple products and software were top rated, not so much any more, more and more problems are showing up and apple is unwilling or unalbe to fix the many issues.  Apple needs to fix the audio sync problem, it not the computer hardware or other software it ITUNES!!!!,  there is no workaround other then hitting pause and hitting pause and hitting pause to temp fix the problem.

  • Watch Rented TV shows in Front Row?

Hey guys... while in Front Row I can see the (rented) episode I want to watch, but when I start to watch the TV show, it states the I am not authorized to watch this content? Is this normal?

Does anyone else have this problem? I'm experiencing the same thing. I can watch it through iTunes but if try to watch the rented TV show through Front Row it says I'm not authorized. I've tried all the usual things like rebooting the router and the computer and deauthorizing and authorizing the computer but I can't figure it out. Maybe it just can't be done.

  • Playing iTunes TV show with Front Row

I'm having difficulties accessing my downloaded TV show from FRont Row. How do I access the TV show from my iTunes section of Front Row? It says the library does not contain any TV shows when attempted. Therefore I had to skip Front Row access to it and simply play it from iTunes. Thanks.

I'm having problems viewing TV shows too. If I click on a show to watch in FrontRow, the "status circle" (for lack of a more precise term) circles once and then I get nothing, not even a video preview next to the name. Anyone have an idea on how to fix this? I tried selecting all the video files in iTunes and choosing "Authorize Computer" but it didn't help. Strangely, if I first watch the video in iTunes, this sometimes helps.

  • Turn Off Front Row Music Shuffle

Is there a method to turn of the music shuffle feature inside Front Row? I notice that every time the shuffle feature is always on "shuffle music".
Thanks to anyone that may have the answer.

I received an answer to this from our local computer shop. You cannot turn this feature off in front row.

  • Any way to turn OFF Front Row?

I use a Logitech Harmony remote for Apple TV. When I pair this remote to the ATV, it still activates Front Row on my iMac annd MBP.
Is there a way to disable Front Row on my iMac so it will stop activating whenever I use the Harmony w/ ATV?

You would have the same problem if you were using an Apple remote, it's not related to your Harmony One. You can either pair your Macs with separate remotes, or turn off the remote sensor in System Preferences on both.

  • Media not showing in Front Row

I'm new to mac and just bought a macbook. There is probably an easy solution to this, but when i use Front Row, my TV Shows and Music Videos are not showing up. It says that I do not have any TV Shows in my iTunes Library. But obiviously i do.
How do I get them to show up??

It all depends where your saving your iTunes is saving its media (. i used to have problems with this but since I dont use iTunes for movies anymore I just put all of them directly into my movies folder and things work beautifully now.
P.S. File type is very important as well. I had some problems with .avi's and wmv's iTunes doesnt play nicely with others.

  • Tv Shows in Front Row

I have no movies or tv shows imported into iTunes, but when I access FrontRow, all the movies that are in my "movies" folder, appear, and play perfectly fine..
I was hoping there would be a default folder for "Tv Shows" like this, that would simply work through FrontRow, but I've noticed the only way to get TV Shows in to Frontrow is to import them into the Tv Show section of iTunes.
Problem is, when I drag these movies across to iTunes nothing happens. They don't appear in any section within the library.
At first I thought this must be because my mac doesn't have the correct codecs installed as default, but my movies all require obscuer codecs to play, and they play just fine in FrontRow so obviously this isn't the problem...
Unless iTunes somehow needs the codecs installed into it?
Shouldn't iTunes just pick up on any codecs that have been installed into the system...?

the only video codec I've gotten to show up in iTunes is some variation of mpeg-4 (protected or unprotected).
another thing about getting them into the "TV SHOWS" folder is that I have to individually go into the file in itunes (Get Info in the FILE menu) the "VIDEO" setting tab. by default all video files are movies as far as iTunes is concerned. even if in the "INFO" tab the genre is TV SHOW it still shows up in movies. you have to select "TV SHOWS" from the drop down menu there in "VIDEO."
so far the video aspect of iTunes is not quite as robust as the audio. hopefully in the future this will change. my biggest complaint right now is that in the TV SHOWS folder of the iTunes library individual seasons of TV Shows no longer get their own subfolder, it's all just one big folder of everything in that show. I've fold a workaround to sorta fix that but it doesn't generate subfolders.

  • Front Row no longer works with Airtunes

May I add my voice to a retrograde step from tiger to leopard. I now no longer proudly show off front row when I play music in my bar since leopard only plays front row directed music through the imac speakers and not air tunes.

Same problem here. I hoped the issue would have been solved with the 10.5.2 update, but alas.. no.
I already posted a 'feedback', think I will do it again. Please Apple, fix this; what's Front Row worth without AirTunes?

  • We need: Aperture library to show up in Front Row!

Apple, please make this work: Front Row should directly show the Aperture Library in Front Row. It's unbelievable that this great Application (Fron Row) cannot show Apple's own Aperture Fotos.
    PLEASE FIX THIS SOON!
Or has anybody a solution yet?

It works now. OS X now lets you select which source you want to show in Front Row =)

  • Front Row shows Aperture projects in different order than Aperture does

I have a bunch of projects, carefully organized in such a way that I can find them easily. Front Row just seems to display them ordered randomly.
Anyone aware of a fix for this?

    2) Did you add track #'s?
Yeah. I made 5 short videos, and set then as "1 of 5" "2 of 5" etc.
I can't understand why it's out of order in Front Row.
As for question 1, the weird thing is when the genre was set to "documentary and drama" it was in TV Shows on Front Row, but when I changed it to just "drama" now it's in the movie section... weird, but that's fixed now.

  • Setting slide show music in iPhoto doesn't change slide music in Front Row

When I try and view slide shows in Front Row, I always get the same classical music.
I have searched the internet and most suggestions tell you to change the settings in iPhoto and this will be mirrored in Front Row - but this isnt working?
Does anyone have a simple way of changing the Front Row slide show settings?
    Thanks

    MidwestPaul :
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. You might try exporting to Quicktime and then add the resulting QT movie to iDVD and see if the timing remains intact.
Are you using the KB effect or multiple transitions in the slideshow? If not I find that I get better quality slideshows by building them in iDVD from the stills. That way I can add titles and/or comments to each slide if so desired, get the music to sync as it should (I like to add a blank, black slide a the end so the music ends in that slide). Downside: no KB effect and only one transition. Upside, better forward and backward control of the slideshow, better quality of the slides and all slides can be scaled to the TV Safe area so none of the image is lost to the TV Over-scan.

  • Mini, Front Row, and HDMI...

Picked up a new Mini to merge our server (iTunes, iPhoto, et al were being served off my laptop, which was fine only when I was at home) with our Apple TV. Mostly a positive thing... moving iTunes and iPhoto onto the Mini went smoothly, the Mini plugged right into the power cable and HDMI cable that were there for the Apple TV, so that went wonderfully. Outputting to a 42" Samsung LED-backlit LCD in our family room.
Our only big downside right now: if we leave Front Row running, and turn off the TV, when we turn it back on later we're greeted with a solid blue screen that doesn't respond to the remote, the keyboard or mouse... we've had to reboot twice in the two days we've been set up like this. For now, we just have to remember to turn off Front Row... if we're on the normal Finder, it doesn't seem to have this problem.
Is this a known HDMI/Mini/Front Row issue, where it gets into a bad state if the TV is turned off, or something particular to my set up? I was kinda hoping this would be our entertainment system moving forward, it's certainly happier in other ways (gives our family a nice central place to plug in iPods, iPhones, iPads, expands easily, etc, etc)...
    Thanks in advance!!!
PS: Our other minor gripe, for those who care, is just Front Row feeling like a step back from the Apple TV interface (which used to look like Front Row when we first got it, but got better)... I'd switch us to Plex, but it doesn't play our TV shows and movies off iTunes, so I'm hoping Apple will update Front Row someday to be something happier.

So far so good on the Mini... the down side (other than the hanging blue evil screen) is just how clunky Front Row is. The Apple TV interface wasn't perfect, but it was much cleaner than the Front Row interface.
We were watching Netflix streaming through Plex last night... Plex is awesome, I'd absolutely use it full-time and forget Front Row except we own a lot of movies and TV shows we've purchased through iTunes, and Plex can't play DRM'ed video. Because of that, right now we're using Plex for things like Netflix, Daily Show, Hulu, etc, and Front Row for our purchased media.
We copied our libraries over onto the Mini, consolidating them along the way.
With our previous setup, we had movies and TV shows on an external drive that was connected to my laptop, streaming to the Apple TV... which worked fine except when I needed to take my laptop somewhere, then the family was stuck watching whatever was actually living on the Apple TV.
Music, a lot of it was on my iTunes, but my wife and daughters had stuff on their iTunes on their machines... and with a plethora of iPhones, iPods, and iPads in the house now, we found we weren't using our laptops as media devices as much.
We started talking about collecting all our material (music, TV, movies, photos, etc) and putting it all on one device... then the Mini came out, and it looked perfect to just replace the Apple TV and be our central hub for everything!
So far, it's great... full 1080p, fast little box, moving the material over was painless, everything's syncing there now... just want a Front Row replacement that'll play iTunes video, and want to be able to leave that thing up all the time and expect it to be there when I turn the TV on.

  • Front Row keyboard function

I have a laptop and occasionally I do a key combination that triggers Front Row. I don't use Front Row on this computer, is there anyway to turn off Front Row?

You can turn the keyboard function off if you go to *System Preferences* then click *Keyboard & Mouse*. From here click Keyboard Shortcuts and deselect "Hide and show Front Row".

  • How to Delete Item from Front Row?

Someone sent me a short imovie project and it was automatically downloaded to my "Download" folder. When I opened Front Row, the project name it's right under "Movies" along with "iTunes Top Movies", "Theatrical Trailers" and "Movie Folder".
I then moved the project file from "Download" to another folder created under my "Movie" folder. When I went to Front Row again, the original project was still under the list in Movies, now it's also in "Movies Folder". So basically it's showing up twice in Front Row in different places.
I see that once I play the movie from my Movies folder directly from the folder, it's automatically set to Music/iTunes/iTunes Media/Movies. So it's showing up in Front Row via iTunes, and it's also showing in Front Row via my Movies Folder.
I just want to organize Front Row so that I don't have a long list of projects immediately under "Movies" in Front Row. I want these projects to neatly go in one personal movie folder only.
Is there a way to reorganize the items list in Front Row?
How do I delete the item that's originally placed under "Movies" in Front Row?

Assets are organized in various apps - primarily iTunes for most of us.
