Sony Bridge 2.1 workarounds and fails
It is sad to see Sony is following the fallacy that lead to ruin of many companies, but it is here: Sub-par software that shouldn't be called more than beta, bad user experience for the sake of following "market experts and statistics" etc... etc... .
Whatever, let's share the workarounds trying to live with what they have. They are at least trying.
Connection problem: The problem is caused by a mixture of causes. The first one is that the software rejects the phone as soon as it is plugged. There is no %100 working way to bypass this, it depends on the "phase of the moon". I think the success rate is better when a) reboot computer after first install, b) close the application if it is open, c) plug the phone, and let the software open by itself. Then there comes the second problem: The extremely slow connection between the phone and the software (Sony xperia s 2012, Macbook pro 2010, OSx 10.6.8). The phone identification times out most of the time. By a miracle of the gods or in the correct phase of the moon, whatever you call it, my phone got recognized, and I was able to update it to 6.0.A.3.73. Sadly it has not improved things on connection front.
Extreme slow transfer: By the time I am writing this, I have been waiting 10+ hours to transfer 8 gb of data. Unless how the data is stored in the phone involve mockingbirds writing to small stone tablets like in Flinstones, this transfer rate is unaccaptable. Sadly, I have not found any solution to this. The phone does not allow mass storage mode, which is a shame. I advice using wi-fi sync methods, like what doubletwist offers, otherwise, sony software is next to unusable.
I have sent your feedback to concerned development team and hopefully there will be an software update.

After reinstalling CS6 the bridge photo downloader isn't able to read raw files and fails to convert the raw files to DNG. Previously downloaded raw files, now DNG, open up successfully in Camera Raw 7. How do I get the photo downloader to read and convert raw files. MacBook Pro with Snow Leopard. No such problem before this reinstallation.
You should install Camera Raw 4.6.

Hi duongtt! Sorry to hear you have a problem with BFM. Can you please send me the error logs so I can forward them to the development crew. Here’s how to get error logs from Sony Bridge for Mac:
1. In BfM, hold the "alt" key down while selecting the "Phone" menu. Select "Clear logs" to remove all old logs and get a clean start
2. Reproduce the problem you're having, whether it's connecting the phone, importing photos, doing backup...
3. In BfM, hold the "alt" key down while selecting the ”Xperia” menu. Select "Export logs"
4. On the computers desktop there should now be a file named "SonyBridgeForMacLogs_[date].zip
5. PM a shared dropbox link to me. Best regards Fredrik -
Problem with Xperia P and Sony Bridge for Mac
hi there,
I'm trying to update my Xperia P to ICS and, since I've not received any notification, I'm using Sony Bridge for Mac (my phone is not firmware branded).
So, i plug my phone at the mac, starting Bridge and wait for the download... until my phone turn off itself and Bridge advice me that no phone is connected. How can i solve?
ThanksUnfortunately it's not possible to get back to Android 2.3 if you have updated to Android 4.0 I'm afraid.
To be able to sort it out and get the phone back to the way it should be - now slow or "laggy" - I'd recommend you to try performing a repair of your phone's software first of all.
Just follow the instruction above given by my colleague Samuel and you'll hopefully easily solve the issue. Fingers crossed!

Sony Bridge for Mac wanted an update, and phone won't switch on now!
Hello
Today I was trying to transfer some files from my phone to my Mac. When I connected my phone the Sony Bridge for Mac has asked me if I would like to update so I clicked yes and it began updating, with my phone connected. Then out of sudden, my phone switched off and it won't switch back on. It will only vibrate and show the Sony logo but won't go any futher. I tried the combination of vol+ and on/off button and many others, but nothing works!! I need my phone very urgently at work, and I really don't want to loose any files!!!
Please help!
Solved!
Go to Solution. It sounds more like you had a system firmware update and you may have disconnected your phone as this process was happening - All you can do I'm afraid to say is a system repair but this will erase all data on your phone

Browse in Bridge from Photoshop CC 2014 fails to open Bridge and wants to install new version
Hey community! I found a few similar posts, but couldn't find much of a resolution.
Last night I was working in PS CC 2014 and all was well. Used Browse from Bridge in PS. Everything is working fine all night long. Get up this morning, return to work, click browse in Bridge, and Creative Cloud desktop client pops up and says something about installing a new version of Bridge and will get rid of my old version. The first time I just though it was an update, so I said sure, install the new version. Then, CC wanted to update a few other apps (PS being one of them), so I closed down everything, and let it update everything while I got a cup of coffee. Came back and it looked like everything was finished updating. So I went back to work. Same thing happens again when I click browse in Bridge. I tried going directly to Bridge's launch icon and THAT at least opened the application. It was still open to the same folder I had been using the night before. I double-clicked on the PSD I was supposed to be working on, and then Illustrator pops up and is trying to open the PSD.
***Ok, so I fixed the association problem with Illustrator trying to open the PSD. I uninstalled my older version of PS CC last night after I was done working, which apparently broke the "file associations" in Windows. I just had to go tell Windows to open PSD files with PS CC 2014 (even though 2014 has been installed since it's release and that's all I've been using)***
Still can't get around the Browse in Bridge issue. It is not a real big deal TO ME where I click to open Bridge, but it does seem like a bug that needs fixing.
Thanks!I have the same issue when trying to Browse in Bridge from Photoshop CC 2014. When I click "Browse in Bridge" in Photoshop CC 2014, the Creative Cloud desktop client window opens up and asks "Are you sure you want to install this version of Bridge"?
Like you, I also thought it was an update so I clicked' "Yes, install this version" option.
Bridge will launch from the dock icon I have set up, but not from within Photoshop CC 2014.
Any solutions to this bug anyone? -
Bugs report for Sony Bridge for Mac
Hello,
I'd like to report two bugs on the Sony Bridge for Mac software, thanks to inform the development team about them:
- Conflict between Sony Bridge for Mac and the Image Capture (more precisely the PTPCamera process):
When the Xperia smartphone is connected to a Mac, after 30 to 40 seconds a process called PTPCamera start to analyze the pictures inside the device. This process is a subprocess used by the Image Capture software, which is included with Mac OS X and allows to retrieve pictures from an APN.
If Sony Bridge for Mac is launched too early, before the PTPCamera process finish its work, than Sony Bridge fails to recognize the phone and invite to try to unplug and replug it. In fact this is a pretty bad advice in that case, as unpluging and repluging will make the PTPCamera process to restart from the beginning.
If we wait patiently for a few minutes (between 3 to 5 minutes, depending on the amount of pictures in the phone) that the PTPCamera process finish its work (we can monitor its CPU usage using Activity Monitor to know if it's working or not), and than we laucnh Sony Bridge, the phone recognition works just fine.
Knowing that, it'd be great if the development team can work on that issue so that Sony Bridge works even if PTPCamera (and so Image Capture) is running, even if it implies a longer necesary time to recognize the phone.
- Other bug: If the amount of data transfered to the phone is important, Sony Bridge may freeze in the middle of the transfer
For example, I've a music library of about 2000 songs representing 12GB of data. If I try to transfer it all at once, Sony Bridge will freeze after some time.
This occurs either when using the iTunes synchronization option of Sony Bridge, or using the file explorer.
Also the transfer speed is very low.
A workaround to that issue is either to transfer small amount of data at a time, but it's not very practical.
Configuration used:
MacBook Pro Core i7 2.3GHz
8GB RAM
Sony Bridge for Mac 2.2
Xperia S with Android 2.3.7 and update 6.0.A.3.73 installed
To reproduce these issues I recommend to test with a phone containing a lot of data inside, both in music (I have 12GB of music) and pictures (I've about 100 pictures), this would greatly help fixing these bugs and testing the software stabiltity and performances.
Best RegardsHi and thank you for posting. I have highlighted this thread to one of my colleagues working with Bridge for Mac. I hope he can get something useful out of it.
Thanks for posting!

Unable to perform update with Sony Bridge for Mac
I have not been able to update my Xperia Z1 (model C6906) through Sony Bridge for Mac.
While attempting this in SBM version 3.5 the following messages would appear:
There was an issue with the update engine. Please contact technical support. (reason:failed to start local server)
then:
There was an issue with the update engine. Please contact technical support. (reason:failed to parse installer XML(code 11))
SBM has now updated to version 3.6(3602) and still no luck. The software is able to download the update engine but then remains stuck in the initializing phase, talking to update engine.
My phone is at build# 14.1.G.2.257. The proposed update seems minor, as the build # doesn't change but it would be great to have this issue resolved in time for kitkat 4.4
There doesn't appear to be a problem with the phone as the staff at the Sony Store were able to perform my initial out of the box update with PC Companion.
My Mac is running OS10.9 and the java version is 1.6.0_65
Any advice would be much appreciatedIn the mean time it would be worth updating the version of java you are running on your MAC:

Sony Bridge for Mac doesn't work with my Sony Xperia J
I have installed Sony Bridge for Mac version 3.7.1, but it won't connect to my Sony Xperia J which I have only had for 3 months.
I get the error "Could not connect to your Xperia device. Please disconnect and reconnect it again. Restart the device if the problem persists". All the time.
I have tried all of the suggestions in the error message. I have also tried reinstalling Sony Bridge for Mac, to no avail.
I am running Mac OS X 10.9.2 on an iMac. I am also using the correct USB lead - the one supplied with the phone.
The Mac system log shows this error:
Apr 3 20:42:35 robins-imac.default Sony Ericsson Bridge for Mac[973]: BUG in libdispatch client: kevent[EVFILT_WRITE] delete: "No such file or directory" - 0x2
I suspect that whoever wrote Sony Bridge for Mac did not try it on OS X 10.9.2.
I am seriously thinking of getting rid of this phone and getting one that works properly with the Mac - ie, not a Sony phone. Sony always seem to have problems with supporting Macs, for some bizarre reason.Hi Yorkshirecomposer,
I will ask the development crew about the system log error. Additionally, could you provide me with error logs to send them as well?
Here’s how to get error logs from Sony Bridge for Mac:
1. In BfM, hold the "alt" key down while selecting the "Phone" menu. Select "Clear logs" to remove all old logs and get a clean start
2. Reproduce the problem you're having, whether it's connecting the phone, importing photos, doing backup...
3. In BfM, hold the "alt" key down while selecting the ”Xperia” menu. Select "Export logs"
4. On the computers desktop there should now be a file named "SonyBridgeForMacLogs_[date].zip
5. PM that file to me or post the contents here

Sony Bridge for Mac PAINFULLY SLOW
I'm trying to sync my music to my new Z1 compact.
I'm getting write speeds of 0-100kb/s.
At this rate it might take me a whole week to sync my music.
Is this singular to me or are others having this problem?Hi FrancescoZZ,
I'm sorry to hear that you're disappointed with Bridge. We have had reports of this before, and are working on constantly improving the software.
In order for me to help you, please answer the following questions:
1. Are you using the latest version of Bridge?
2. What's your OSX version, and how much RAM does your computer have?
3. Could you provide me with error logs, which could help determine what's causing the problem?
Here’s how to get error logs from Sony Bridge for Mac:
1. In BfM, hold the "alt" key down while selecting the "Phone" menu. Select "Clear logs" to remove all old logs and get a clean start
2. Reproduce the problem you're having, whether it's connecting the phone, importing photos, doing backup...
3. In BfM, hold the "alt" key down while selecting the "Phone" menu. Select "Export logs"
4. On the computers desktop there should now be a file named "SonyBridgeForMacLogs_[date].zip
5. PM that file to me or post the contents here

Sony bridge won't update xperia mobile on iMac
Hi I have been trying to update my sister's xperia u using Sony Bridge for Mac. Twice I have 'chatted' to Sony online who obviously know little or nothing about Mac. I have disbaled the firewall as the person suggested to no avail. I laso looked to make add Sony Bridge to the exceptions in firewall but can't find it (not an approved Apple App?). Any suggestions
If Sony can't support their own product, well, you know what to think about that. http://www.markspace.com/ offers Missing Sync software for Macs and non-Apple smart phones. They may offer one for your Sony. And they have done smart phone links to Macs for sometime.

Sony bridge for mac RESTORE phone not working after exchange xperia from Sony
Hi everyone,I have been sent an exchange unit from Sony to replace my previous xperia zThis phone has an older imei number than mine and wont allow me to restore using the Sony Bridge for Mac softwareIs this because of the different imei number???i have lots of notes, messages stored in a previous backup using the Sony bridge for mac softwareWhich i need to retrieve onto the "second hand Marked and scratched exchange unit" which Sony have sent me DOES anyone have a sollution to this please Thanks in advance... Steve
Hi Echo_steve Unfortunately, as I expected, you're not able to restore to another phone. However, there is one possible solution, but there is no guarantee it will work and it might mess things upp so you'll have to do it on your own risk. I'm afraid that's the best I can do for now. Here's how to work around the restore block. Again, use this with caution as there's no guarantee it will work. Also make sure Bridge isn't running when you attempt this:- Do a backup of the new phone
- goto ~/Library/Application Support/Sony Ericsson Bridge for Mac/
- Go to the "Backups" folder and find the backup sets
- Try to locate the old backup folder and rename it to the name of the new backup. This can be quite tricky, as the folders are named things like "CB5A1JYXNQ". But basically, if the backup set of the old phone is named "ABCDEF01" and the backup set of the new phone is "ABCDEF02", it should be enough to remove (or rename) the new backup set and rename the old one to "ABCDEF02".
Again, I'm sorry there's no easy fix. Please let me know if it works for you. Best Regards, David -
Problems With Bridge for Mac - Playlists and Photos
I have a Sony Xperia Z3, up to date and an updated version of sony bridge for Mac, so there isnt any problems there for a start.
Firstly, when I syncronise my playlists, all the tracks are present on my phone, however not divided into the playlists I syncronised them in. Theres 1000's of songs, so to recreate the playlists individually is very tedious, is there no way of transferring the songs in their collections, so they can be viewed in the itunes playlists?
Secondly, I syncronised alot of photos from iPhoto using the app. Lots of photos have turned up with a black picture icon on the phone, I assume corrupt. Other photos have syncronised all distorted. Why is this? Again, there are alot of these so to do it in smaller sets is also tedious, as the app is pretty slow compared to syncronising with itunes and my old iphone.
Overall, not impressed with bridge for mac, its a pretty unreliable and slow program!Hi richardackroyd!
Sorry to hear about your problems.
It's hard for me to know exactly what causes the problems.
Can you please send me the error-logs for both the probems.
So I can forward them to the development team.
5. PM me a open dropbox link withe the files.
Best regards

Sony Bridge for Mac - Cannot Sync
So, whenever I connect my Sony Xperia ® (seriously, that ® EVERYWHERE is annoying), I either get an error message "could not connect", or the memory appears to be full. The display bar that usually says what is occupying my memory (Pictures, Videos, Music and so on) is red. I try deleting files and sync some music to my phone and I get an error message ("could not sync"). The files are deleted, but the music won't sync. And it keeps saying that the memory is full, no matter how many files I delete.
In any case, my next phone won't be a Sony.Same problem here. As it seems, they haven't done a good job with Sony bridge. It takes more than 10 minutes to import 20 pictures, or it freezes and have to force quit the program. It seems they don't test their programs. Will be an Iphone next time.

Sony Bridge doesn't work on my mac/phone.
So I have a Sony Xperia U and my Mac is version 10.5.8 and I've downloaded this Sony Bridge but it doesn't work, I connect my phone to my computer and nothing happens, my phone just starts charging with the computer and that's it. What version of Sony Bridge should I download then? What should I do?
Try installing Bridge for Mac from this link instead and check if you can get any connection.
