Sony cx-550 1080i

I'm trying to take a video from a  Sony cx550 cam and upload it to Youtube. I used the Youtube HD 1920x1080  preset in the Share tab (elements 9) but the video "skips/jumps" about every  second.  The project settings look ok (1920x1080 29.97fps).
I also tried exporting it as a mp4 and uploading it to Youtube but I get the same skip/jump every second.

What could be causing this?
Thanks!
Keith

I assume that, when you say you're using 1920x1080 project settings, that you mean you're using the AVCHD Full HD settings, right?
I also assume you shot your initial video in FX mode. Is that right?
If so, this may be about the best YouTube can give you.
But have you tried this method of uploading to YouTube? It will let you test drive your video before you upload it to make sure it doesn't have this stutter problem.

  • FCP X transcoding Sony HDR-FX7 (1080i) to NTSC 720 x 480. Results are not pretty.

Help, please? I shot some interview footage for my student documentary film with a Sony HDR-FX7 (1080i). FCP X transcodes it to NTSC 720 x 480 on import and it looks awful. Have now learned the difference between interlaced and progressive!. The film project has 1080p footage as well and won't deinterlace in Compressor or JES. Not sure what to do: can't reshoot. I've spent hours on Google and YouTube and can't find a solution or a viable workaround. Would welcome your help; thanks!

I don't know what you're doing but there is no way FCP imports that media to 720x480, unless the camera is set to downconvert on output. iLink has to be switched off.

  • Sony HDR-HC3 1080i imports out of sync to iMovie

My old DV camcorder imported into iMovie 6.0.2 just fine. Have just bought the new SONY HDR-HC3E HDV handycam - component set to 1080i/576i and HDV/DV converter set to off.
Created new iMovie project and selected video format HD 1080i. iMovie sees the camera okay but when i press play control or import control, iMovie tells me it is previewing or importing iMovie content at 1/2 or 3/4 speed. Picture in iMovie window is clearly moving slower than picture on camcorder screen. When i press pause or stop and review clip that has been imported into iMovie it plays back with the sound out of sync. Can anyone suggest what I'm doing wrong?

    Hi kosmo
    Most obvious thought.
    - is Your Camera set to 12-bit sound or does it have LP/EP mode (long/extended) that
records more minutes on a standard tape than normal play.
    - should be 16-bit sound and SP (standard play) mode.
If this is relevant to Your situation !

  • 1080i sony hdtv works ok with blueray 1080p output dvd?

I am ready to consider buying a blueray dvd player but do not know if the Sony SXRD tv (1080i) will work as it should with blueray dvd's(1080p)output. Will someone advise me please?

    Hey,
I like that you’re asking questions before jumping into a purchase. I also find out if what I am about to buy will meet my needs before making a purchase. For a TV to be able to work with a Blu-ray player, the TV has to accept a 1080p input. To find out if your specific model TV accepts a 1080p signal you could contact Sony at www.sonystyle.com or you could call Sony at 1-800-222-7669. Keep in mind that even if your TV does accept a 1080p signal, it will only be displayed at 1080i, and the only way to take full advantage of a Blu-ray player is to have a TV capable of 1080p resolution. I hope this information helps with your purchase.

  • Mixing JVC 720p25 and Sony 1080i in same project

    Hi,
I am about to start editing a documentary that was shot using a JVC GY HD100 camera using 720P25 and a sony camera using 1080i (interlaced)PAL.
I captured all the JVC footage using LUMIER and the sony directly into FCP.
What I want to know is what is the best sequence settings to use, so that I can edit both in the same timeline.and have the best result.
I dexumed the m2t JVC footage and encoded it using Apple intermediate codec.
    any ideas?
    Thanks

    Hi,
I am using a quad with 6 gig ram
but if I do that don't i loose quality from the jvc footage?
may be go the other way, then I can crop the 1080 footage accordingly?
I intend to deliver in DV and DVD.
Thanks for the response, it seems not many people know what I am trying to do. But the director/camera man shot the documentary using both cameras, the Sony for underwater stuff and the JVC for interviews and other out of water stuff.

  • Unable to print to video, out to Sony V1U

Wedding video shot with Sony V1U, HDV 1080i 16x9. Imported into FCEHD3.5, using easy set up hdv 1080 AIC. total movie length 100minutes. Edited fine. Exported as a QT movie self contained to desk top, no problem. Then attempted to export from the time line the entire sequence. The FCE is pretty easy to export from and set the sony v1u to HDV import with both auto and HDV settings. It is in VTR mode. I checked the render again and it was complete. saved the project. Closed FCEHD. connected fire wire from cam to computer and powered up cam with what appear to be the correct setting according to the manual. Opened FCEHD and project. Rechecked render, resaved project and chose print to video. Went through the next screen as I normally do and have tried with both automatic record start and manual record start. Clicked start and the computer does its job and the video starts but the camera does not appear to ever be controlled by the computer. I let it run for about 30 minutes to see if it needed time to change from Mpeg2 back to HDV. Maybe I did not wait long enough for the number crunching before I gave up.
Question 1: What am I doing wrong.
I tried to export a SD movie and it worked fine.
I tried to send it to IDVD from the QTmovie.fcp file on the desk top but it immediately shuts down IDVD. I tried to import into ImovieHD and it gave me a QT error. I thought maybe imovie had a time limit so I re-exported the movie in to sections as FCP and then dragged and dropped into imovie and it worked. The resolution is much worse in imovie as compared to the great video in FCEHD.
Question 2: Am I losing quality as I move from HDV to FCEHD ( I would assume so as it is going to Mpeg2), and even more when I go then from FCEHD to imovie.
Question 3: When I print to tape from fce back to my original hdv setting it should convert back to hdv correct?
    Any advide would be appreciated.
    Thanks, Steve

    Purchased IDVD8 and problem solved

  • IMovie HD won't import from Sony HDR-HC1

iMovie HD 5.0.2 (111) on my G5 desktop controls, but won't import from, my new little Sony HDR-HC1 1080i DV camcorder. Same was the case with my 12" 1 GHz PowerBook until, at the advice of a Manhattan Beach Genius Bar tech, I did an archive reinstall of 10.4 and a reinstall of iMovie HD on both my G5 PowerMac and G4 PowerBook and then downloaded all the updates. Now my PowerBook works, but my PowerMac still won't import. On an empty second HD in my PowerMac I installed OS 10.4 and iMovie HD ONLY (to create as sterile as possible of an environment), made the 2nd HD my startup drive, and still iMovie HD on my PowerMac will not import from this camera (although it will from an older Sony VX-1000 regular def camcorder).
Does anybody have any solutions, or any idea why iMovie HD now imports on my PowerBook but after the same makeover still won't on my PowerMac?
Per earlier posts, I tried playing some piano notes in Garage Band, trashing the iMovie preference files, and reinstalling QuickTime (the tech had heard QT 7.0.3 could be at fault from becoming corrupted in certain updating combinations), all to no avail.

  • Sony 14:9 FCpro 16:9 screen size in overlays...

I’m working in FCpro (6….) for some years now making my own home movies.
This spring I got a Sony HDR-HC9 1080i cam what made it more beautiful, recording in 16-9 etc. So I set my FC to the needed settings, exported to compressor and to DVD studio to write it down in a (quality loss, anybody knows how to solve this?) DVD all perfect so far.
But now we have this very nice Sony Bravia KDL-46W4500 huge flat screen. Checking out my DVD’s, what once was perfect lined out in FC when creating it, now falls of the edges, is cut of.
My Sony Bravia seems to have a 14:9 instead of the usual 16-9… (zoom or smart or 4:3 same cut of version on my dvd film)
Is there a solution for this, what settings should I use in FC to make it full screen coverage again without losing the edges on my sony Bravia? It worked fine on my old tv screen 4:3, had a black line on the sides there but that’s fine…
Ok so I resize my hole project again in FC but is there I way I can set my overlays/title safe in FC to 14:9 size so I can work in those helpful lines again, without guessing or hoping it will be full on screen on my bravia, what other setting should I adjust?
    Thanks in advance

    Thanks for your reply
what do you mean with over scan ?
i just used the full canvas with in FC
kept my pictures included within the “wireframe”, kept my titles within the “title safe”…
whatever setting I use on my bravia, wide, smart, zoom or 4:3 it cuts of a large part of the image, even far in the title safe area on the horizontal part and cuts it back on the vertical to the edge of the title safe….
Could it be that my dvd player, which did fine on my old “small” 4:3 tv, fools me?
Never the less my bravia manual never mentions 16:9 ratio, closest to it is 14:6

  • Why Poor DVD quality Encore CS6 with Sony FS100 MTS files from PPro CS6

I am using PPro CS6 on a MAC Pro Quad zenon with Boot Camp. On PC side I was using PPro CS6 & Encore CS6 with MTS files from  Sony NX 5U with NO Problems.
I just started using a Sony FS100 recording 1080i (60) format MTS files. When I Dynamic Link to Encore, the quality of the image is very soft compare to image from previous
projects with MTS files from Sony NX 5U.When I open a previous NX5U project, it still displays and creates an excellant dvd.Need help in solving problem.

Thanks for the advice. I tryed your method with same results.
I then tried changing project quality settings with somewhat better results
    but not good enough results.
I looked at some of my previous dvds that used mts files from my Sony NX5U
and the quality was much better
that any results I am having using the Sony FS100 mts files. Even still
pictures do not look good now in Encore.
I then tried using Roxio Creator 10 Pro to make a dvd.
The results were excellant! Video files and stills are great.
I noticed that Encore CS6 is using the "Main Concept" codec to transcode.
Has something changed in the basic
settings with my Encore and can I reset my Encore to original defaults???
Any advice would be welcomed...Thanks again.

  • Is 1080i ok with 1080i 30p?

I shot a project where the wild life was shot with a Sony Z7U in 1080i 30p (a menu setting) and the interviews were shot in 1080i 29.97.  I capture my footage with a Kona AJA Lhi card in DVCPRO HD so the clips come in as 1280 x 1080 (1.5)   It appears when I mix the two on a segment set for 1080i the 1080i 30p looks choppy.  Any suggestions on a sequence selection to accommodate both?
    Thanks

hi, dvcpro hd is a panasonic format, this could be the issue. in premier a hdv 1080i 30 preset should be fine for both video footage.

  • Newbie - General HD Questions - Plus Sony & Panasonic

I've been a standard definition guy for years, and am thinking of moving to a HD camcorder. I'm a relative newcomer to the Mac, and am using IMovie 09.
IMovie 09 is just the tool - it's the output that counts - and in my case, it's going to be the Apple TV for 80% of my movies, and standard definition DVDs (using IDVD) for the remaining 20% of my movies.
Neither of these things (Apple TV or DVDs) can display in 1080 resolution. Am I therefore still able to use a HD camcorder or not? Will IMovie keep the high-res 1080 footage on my hard disk, and then just convert to Apple TV and/or DVD format as appropriate? -- or am I stuck with 1080, with no easy option of using IDVD....?
Also, if I move into the world of HD, does the time taken to render to AppleTV and IDVD grow exponentially over using a standard def camera? And, is IMovie still a usable product, or does editing etc become painfully slow, using HD high bitrate films? Does the addition of Turbo264HD become a valuable or essential addition?
Also, I find it frustrating that the list of supported camcorders doesn't change very often.
For example, I wonder if the SONY HDR-XR105E, HDR-CX105ES, HDR-TG3E are compatible, in addtion to the HDR-CX11E which is on the list. I see no reason why not, but it's too much of a gamble.
Also, the Panasonic HDC-SD100 AVCHD Camcorder has good reviews, and I think does 1080p (the Sony only does 1080i as far as I know). Question - is 1080p the same as doing 25p? I notice an article on Apple's site about Panasonic's 26p, which says "If you plan on importing clips into iMovie '09, do not use Digital Cinema Mode settings when recording with your camcorder". However, it doesn't say anything about the PAL version (25p), but I'm assuming it'll have the same issue as the 26p. This obviously makes the advantage of the Panasonic over the Sony useless.
Thanks in advance for any input,
    Brad

HD is the way to go -- even with appletv. I have AppleTV and now hardly ever burn any video! I'm working off a new macbook, but your imac is faster processor. I just did a 20 minute video last night-- a combination of DV and HDV with a theme-- I imported on Full and large for a test run. I didn't see much difference on the appleTV for either one. I suggest still importing on full to future proof. Then you just export to itunes select the setting for appletv. It took an hour. No biggie. Output was not as good as my camera, but I can't find anything yet that gives me equal to my HD camera plugged straight to the TV via an HDMI port.
The minute you bring footage into imovie it is second generation even if you output full footage to Western Digital Media Player that can handle 1080p. There is a compressing process the footage goes through...with that said....it's still pretty good! Much better in HD even outputting at any resolution!
Now for the camcorder, find Steve Mullen's posts. He has several on different issues with cameras and codec's. Bottom line: Its best to edit in progressive. However, 1080p 60 you need a mac pro!
1080p 30 is ok. I shoot 1080 60i. Its fine also, but some people are having issues with interlacing!
imovie can't handle 24p-- or something like that.....There are a bunch of threads on camcorders. Do a search on 1080p and see what pops up. Find Steve Mullens post. Click on his name and then you can see all his posts on this topic from various threads! He recommends actually 720 60p, but its very hard to find.

  • Does iMovie alter movies imported at full 1080i (1920x1080) ?

I have a new Sony HDR HC9 1080i camcorder (Mini DV tape).
I heard rumors that iMovie converts movies imported at full 1920x1080 to something like 900 x 480.
Is there any truth to this ugly rumor?
    Thanks.
    Paul

    This not not exactly true.
iMovie imports movies into Event files at the same resolution as their source. If you import 1920x1080 in AVCHD, the event contains an AIC file in 1920x1080.
However, when you use the Event footage in a project, the standard iMovie pre-sets for rendering top out at 960x540 (which is exactly half of 1920x1080). However, by using the Export to QuickTime option, it is possible to render in full 1920x1080.
However, for most people, the 960x540 is good enough. It is about the largest size that can be reasonably streamed over the internet. It is the largest size accepted by the Apple TV. And it easily upscales to 1920x1080 on a high quality receiver/TV with upscaling circuitry. If you are burning a DVD, it will be downscaled to 480i anyway.
As I mentioned, you can export in full 1920x1080 through QuickTime. The issue is "How do I play it?". Some people have reportedly been successful playing these files on a Sony Playstation 3. The new version of Toast allows you to Author BluRay DVDs and you may be able to play them on a BluRay player. You can also play them on your Mac Screen if you have the display resolution set high enough. A 1920x1080 will take up most, if not all, of your computer screen.
As for the Toast BluRay option: It is not practical for me to buy a BluRay burner for USB, since these run over $1000. The SATA BluRay burners are around $300, but my iMac does not have an external SATA port. However, with Toast 9, they claim you can make a BluRay-playable disk from a standard DVD. It holds about 20 minutes of high def content. I am going to burn a BluRay disk using the same project rendered in 1920x1080 and 960x540 to see if I can tell the difference.
