Sony DCR-PC1000E PAL won't import widescreen

Hello
I have a Sony DCR-PC1000E PAL which I have recorded a home movie in widescreen 16:9 mode. It plays back in this format on the view window (lcd panel) on the camcorder itself but imports as 4:3 in iMovie HD even though it is set to import as DV Widescreen.
Any ideas what I need to do to fix this?
Thanks in advance.

This can happen if you have not set iMovie to 25 fps = PAL:

  • What is the Best Easy Setup options on FCE 4 for Sony DCR-VX2000E PAL?

Could someone please advise which options I should select in the easy set up box in Final Cut Express 4?
    Camera in use is:
    SONY DCR-VX2000E PAL.
There are a few different options... either DV PAL.. or DV PAL with various options next to it.. and i don't know what they all mean and which one applies to my camera.
I would like to select the best options in terms of playback quality once the edit is complete. I understand the export has a part to play at that point but i'm at the beginning and need to know what to select at this first hurdle...
PLEASE PLEASE could someone shed some light???
    thank you....

I have the same (fantastic) cam (from 2000 and use still the same batteries!) and use DV-pal DV Converter. Now it is also possible to capture direct from camera (thus no tape running!) that save time. In iMovie you can do the same but after ending the direct-capture, iMovie need a lot of time to make thumbnals. Or, when you pause for a while and want to go further you have to wait for very long if you direct recording/capturing was long too! Sometimes is that not possible!
    Succes!

  • Sharing with Sony DCR-PC9E -PAL

    HI,
I've just tried to share from imovie HD to my Sony DCR-PC9E-Pal and it says that my Firewire cable is not connected. It is, and have had no problem with my old iMovie. I have updated the software and still a have this problem. It does show that it is reading the device but cannot export to camera.
Any suggestions or direct me to archives if that might assist.
    Best
    Tony

no, that doesn't matter - I'm using iMHD5 + an old Sony TRV14 - works like a charm...- but no export , it's an European model.... (without "E" in its type)
be sure, you have all updates installed…
    try this:
IMovie can no longer export to camera after installing Final Cut
    http://www.info.apple.com/kbnum/n93804
or, quit iM, launch Garageband, play a few notes, quit GB, launch iM agian (that very strange procedure is known here as "Garageband Crazy Fix" )
    and, finally, something about Sonys:

  • Sony DCR-IP1E PAL - Micromv

    Hi,
Does anybody know if the Sony DCR-IP1E PAL - Micromv is compatible with iMovie.
Do I need any special software?
    Thanks.
    Hugo

A very small compatible HD camera? ..Sony HDR- HC1, as described here. [..That may take a while to load, so here's a review which loads faster!..]
Software for converting video from 'microMV' tapes? The Export2DV feature of the downloadable program MPEG2Works should do that. Or MPEG Streamclip.
Here are full instructions on converting from 'microMV'. (You don't strictly need to do all that's mentioned about downloading the Software Development Kit, etc: that's just for control of the camcorder from your Mac.)
[..All you really need to do is to search in Google under "convert microMV"..]

  • Sony DCR-TRV240, analog tapes & firewire import?

I'm importing home movies with a Sony DCR-TRV240 camcorder which plays 8mm, Hi8 and Digital 8 tapes. I'm connecting via firewire (or i.Link, as Sony calls it). The digital tapes import just fine, but the analog ones don't. They play just fine on the little screen on the camcorder, but nothing seems to come through the firewire cable.
Is there a fix for this?
    Thanks,
    Glen

    Hi
    A. You are sure that You use a FireWire Cable. Most often NOT Supplied with Camera.
Usually they are delivered with an USB/USB2 Cable. Will not work with iMovie 6.
    B. Does Your Camera work with another Mac ?

  • IMovieHD won't import widescreen - keeps switching to 4/3

Hi - trying to import widescreen footage from Canon MD216 mini DV to iMovieHD.
Followed all the instructions - selecting "widescreen DV" option when creating project. A blank widescreen appears, but always switches back to 4:3 format as soon as I import.
This never happens in iMovie08 - which imports widescreen flawlessly.
Was wanting to experiment using iMovieHD, but can't get going until this widescreen refusal is sorted out. Looked up preferences - but couldn't see anything there.
Can anyone out there please help? Thanks

Hi Matt - read your message, and have just tried importing footage about 2 minutes ago.
I have to report that the "title-trick" is essential. When no "title trick" is used, the images are squeezed into the 4:3 format, with bars on either side. However, when this is done using titles, the footage loads perfectly in widescreen. Works like a dream...
Just for the record, the camera is a Canon MD 216 miniDV palmcorder - a very basic TAPE machine that I bought new for £200 ($300 approx) about 8 months ago in a High St store. Previously, all my editing had been done on iMovie08 which had been factory set at 25fps PAL.
This would also have been the case for iMovieHD - it would have come preset at 25fps. But I changed it, not really thinking, after having read a David Pogue (American) book on iMovie 08. This was actually really well written and very amusing. There was a really funny couple of paragraphs describing the 30fps - 29.98(?)fps situation and this must have stuck in my mind when I was setting up.
I've only ever used it widescreen, so I can't really comment on mixed formats.
Hope the feedback was helpful. Thanks again. ALAN BOWIE

  • Sony A77 Raw Files Won't Import Without Crashing

Ever since I upgraded to Mountain Lion on my 15" Macbook Pro Mid 2010, iPhoto crashes when I try to import. So far I have reinstalled Mac OS X 4 times and iLife (after deleting everything) once. This is from the crash log "*** Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInvalidArgumentException', reason: '-[__NSArrayI removeAllObjects]: unrecognized selector sent to instance 0x1eef4b70'." I have no idea how to fix this.
    My iPhoto crash log:

    My Aperture Crash log:
    http://pastebin.com/yP6BwQGN
Also everything on my computer is up-to-date.
Is anyone else having this problem with the Sony Alpha 77 (A77) and its Raw files?

    OT:  Sony DSLR talk.
Your response indicates you took my comment as a challenge to your decision.  It wasn't.  I own both.  The a900 has the biggest, brightest viewfinder ever put on a camera.  It's worth experiencing sometime.  Michael Reichman reports (discussing the Nikon D800/e):
    Optical Viewfinder
There has been so much attention paid to the latest generation of mirrorless cameras and their electronic viewfinders that it's worth mentioning that as good as they are, a full-frame optical viewfinder through a large glass prism is still the gold standard. I discussed this with an illustrative example in my recent Sony NEX-7 Six Months On Report.
But, having said that (as Seinfield was wont to say), this isn't the biggest and the brightest OVF on the market. A Sony A900, for example, is much brighter. Not that the D800/E is poor in this regard, it just isn't brilliant (literally and figuratively).

  • Sony DCR-HC62 camcorder won't connect to iMovie with express card adapter

I got a Sony HC62 Mini DV video camera but it will not connect to iMovie. Since I don't have a firewire 6 pin on my Mac (only a 9 pin) i got an express card adapter. So I am using 4 pin (camera) to 6 pin (Express card) firewire. I have no other devices to test the express card but i tested the firewire and the video camera that I got and it works fine with a Windows XP computer. I have also talked with sony and I ended up with either there is something wrong with the express card or the iMovie software.

Well there is nothing there because the express card is listed under a PCI card. The express card is recognized when inserted but that is it will not notice the camera attached to the express card. since i couldn't test the card i went and got the card replaced, but still with no luck.
Would returning the express card and buying a firewire 4 pin to 9 pin be worth it? (given that i can get one since i can only find one company that makes them and they are a wholesales only) This way i can connect it directly to my mac's firewire 9 pin port.

  • How can I import a movie from sony DCR trv340 tape to Macbook Pro?

I have started using iMovie, I know it's been there quite a while, and I am trying to imort from a tape using Sony DCR-TRV340. I can import tapes created on the TRV340 but other tapes that were created on a different Sony device, from back in late 1980's will not load. When I pllay them on the camcorder they appear and I can watch them in iMove but they will not record. It says NO DATA FROM DEVICE. Is there a way to fix that or a setting that needs to be changed?
    Any hel would be appreciated.

A dual mode camcorder with both a photo camera and camcorder function.
While Apple doesn't seem to list these as compatible, have you tried connecting with a firewire cable, and turning on iMovie and seeing if it recognizes your camcorder?
Here is Apple's commentary on trying to get a camcorder to work:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1059#2
What about contacting Samsung, often companies have a knowledge base.
I know this isn't what you were asking, but if you have something recorded you absolutely must have, I have a hunch a friend with an older windows computer might be able to get it downloaded, then you could transfer it by thumbdrive to imovie.
    Just a thought.

  • Import miniDV (Sony DCR-TRV33E) leads to artifacts in the video

    Hi,
I hope there is someone who might help solving my issue.
    I am using
    Mac OS X
    Premiere Elements 11
    Sony DCR-TRV33E (miniDV Camcorder)
The import from a miniDV with add media functionality from DV is loading the video from the tape.
However, on the Apple screen there are disturbing artifacts in the video like shifted columns. The material is not useable at all.
Importing the same material into iMovie is leading to correct results.
Using the iMovie imports via add media from file into Premiere Elements leads again to the artifacts mentioned.
The import into Premiere Elements shows also a warning message stating that for certain listed items the file type is not supported or a different codec is required.
It looks like that the artifacts are caused by the rendereing of the miniDV formated video in Premiere Elements.
Is there anything missing I need to configure or install?
Do I need to install a Codec? If yes, where do I get it from and how to install?
    Thanks,
    Henning

The material was recorded using the same camera and connection was with FireWire (otherwise capture miniDV vide owouldn't work).
I uploaded a quicktime .mov file demonstrating the artifact - you can find it in the T-Shirt at the throat:
    http://kruse-hg.gmxhome.de/miniDVArtifactsInPremiereElements.mov
Using iMovi this artifact will not occur.
    Thanks,
    Henning

  • Conversion help needed ---Sony DCR-HC30

I feel like a total dummy here because I can't figure this out .......AND, I have done it before! Its been quite a while and the old brain isn't all it used to be, I guess.
I have a Sony DCR-HC30 camcorder. I imported a movie I took into iMovie. I edited it and played with it to my little heart's content. It is finished now and I want to run it back through my camcorder, into a VCR to copy it to a VHS tape. I know what you're thinking ......WHY? Answer .....as a gift for my mother-in-law who does not have a DVD. Later, I will record it using iDVD for myself to get the better quality I want.
So, please, can someone give me complete directions on how to do this????? I cannot find the info in my manual. I have the camcorder connected to my computer via firewire, and the camcorder is connected in the In jacks of my VCR. What am I missing? What mode does the camera need to be in?
Thanks to any kind soul who can put me out of my misery.
    Kathy

    Hi, Kathy!
I have the same camcorder and I love it! Just perfect for all this movie-making, and it is great in low light, and small enough to be easy to carry with me.
Now, there are 2 ways to capture your movie on VHS tape. One is the straight pass-through set up...that you describe. Just put the camcorder in VTR mode and don't put a tape in it. Push record on the VCR and play on the iMovie.
However, I recommend that you use the method that will take longer. You do it in 2 steps. First, 'share' your iMovie back to your camcorder onto a DV tape. Then, disconnect the camera from the computer and connect it to the VCR using the AV connector that came with the camera. Then record the movie to VHS.
The reason I recommend this double recording (once to DV tape and once to VHS) is that you will then have a digital copy of your iMovie that you can use again and again to import/edit/re-record/ burn to DVD. You don't have to leave your movie on your computer and risk that it might become corrupted/lost in a computer crash/etc. You will also have a permanent digital copy as a backup. I know, you have the original, but after spending time creating your edited movie, it is very nice to save it.
I have been copying my old family vhs tapes and photos into iMovie and making DVDs of each year's footage. Some years we were more into movies and photos, so some years take up 2 DVDs. I recorded almost all of the original VHS tapes onto DV tapes to import (yes, about 120 hours so far), and when finished with each imovie, I export the edited version..with titles, transitions, music...to another DV tape to preserve it in that form as well as the DVDs I have made. I guess I am afraid that some newer technology will make DVDs obsolete and I think maybe the DV tapes will last longer. I am working with some VHS tapes that are already 23 years old!
Anyway, that is my 2cents for you

  • Capturing from Sony DCR in Premiere Elements 13 not possible?

Premiere Elements does not find the device (SONY DCR-TRV120E PAL), although it is recognized in "Devices and Printers" as "AV/C Subunit / Sony DV Camcorder" (WIN 7) and the device is also recognized and capturing correctly under MS Movie Maker.
    Thanks for any helpful advice!
    Oliver.

    Thanks for the reply.
Hope you can use the workarounds suggested in the Adobe document.
Are you within 30 days of purchase from Adobe direct on this one? If so, you can seek a refund/money back from Adobe.
If you purchased from an authorized reseller, then you have to deal with the seller according to the sellers return/refund policy.
If an Adobe online purchase, then Adobe Chat Orders should be able to take care of the refund details.

  • IMovie HD 6 won'c import from Sony DCR-PC109

So I am among the legion of folks on here, it seems, that are having an issue with iMovie HD not able to import my video from my camera -- Sony DCR-PC109.
1] It worked on my last movie in August (cords, camera, etc)
2] NO, I did not put the plug in upside down
3] The camera is recognized in System Profiler/FireWire
4] In about three of the dozen or so times I have tried to get it to connect,iMovie HD 6 sees the camera for an instant...I go to rewind the tape, get "Can't Control Camera" message, followed by a total crash of iMovie. Sometimes the crash is so bad the entire machine hangs and I have to restart using the power button.
5] In the other 9 times, neither iMovie HD 6 nor iMovie 8 recognize the camera
6] iMovie HD 6 will not recognize the camera on either my Intel iMac, nor my G4 PowerBook
7] FireWire hard drives do connect easily
Not sure what is next. My gut is to become more down on Leopard. I've been a Mac user since 1979 (I was 7), and have switched about 10 other people to Macs because "they just work, never crash" and they are a pleasure to use. But it seems like every day lately, I have another glitch like this -- Safari crashes, relative's MacBook keys not working, Safari crashes AGAIN, Application Switcher not showing all the running apps, another security patch, etc. I'm glad I'm not one of those in these boards who are relying on iMovie for class projects.
Boy, I hope people love their iPhones, because it seems like Mac users are feeling the pain for their pleasure.

I'm having the same problem. I cannot get my iMac G4 (Leopard, iMovie HD 6) to recognize the tape in my Sony DCR-PC109 ("Cam").
Before I upgraded to Leopard, and before I upgraded to iLife '08 (except iMovie which maxes out with iMovie HD 6 for non-Intel Macs), I did not have a problem.
My situation might be slightly different in that I've connected the Cam base to the iMac via USB cable. The iMac recognizes the Cam Memory Stick. In fact, I was able to pull off a movie stored on the Memory Stick and add it to iPhoto. Turning the Cam on automatically launches iPhoto so the system recognizes it to some degree.
The Cam LCD says it's in LCD mode and the Memory Stick icon is visible on the desktop. I launch iMovie HD 6 and toggle from Edit mode to Import (the cam icon) and nothing. I have an iSight installed so iMovie prompts me if I'd like to record with iSight.
I was about to try and pull the video off using my Macbook Pro which has the iMovie '08 but found this other thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=6216912&tstart=585
The last post mentions something about iSquint. Will have to try it. Very frustrating. Looks like there are many people having the same issue with DCR-PC109, and maybe some other models/makes.
