Sony Digital 8 - DCRTRV480

Hi,
Anyone recently purchased this digital 8 camcorder?
Could you please tell me where you got it from with
any recommended sites?
I went to circuit city yesterday, they only had the
280 model. I believe only 460 and above models can
play back analog hi8 tapes. I am going to check in
Best Buy today. There are a number of internet sites
where this is available, but I am not sure which ones
are reliable. I've never bought electronics off the
net, plus most of them were selling refurbished
models. Please help!

I bought a DCRTR480 at ABC Warehouse in South Bend,Indiana two days ago. They have one left. No one else has bought one form them in the last 3 months according to the manager. I think they also have them online.
My DCR460 would not download to my G5 dual, although my old Sony DV camera still does. Sony customer service said the 460 was broken, so I bought the 480 for alittle more than the repair cost of the 460. However, neither iMovie 5.02, nor any other video program will recognize either the "broken" 460, or the brand new 480. I ran Diskwarrior and Cocktail and reinstalled iMovie5 and updated it to 5.02. Still no luck. Any ideas out there?
Someone said to play a few notes on the GarageBand onscreen keyboard. I did that too.

Can I use this Digital camera with my MacBook Pro
it is a SONY DCR-DVD 201
I do not see a firewire port on the camera ONLY a USB.
How can I get my video from my DVD to iMovie?
I want to put my home video from this camera to iMovie, Can it be done?
I am going nuts, I paid alot of money for this camera and now I can't use it in my new Mac?
I am very new to Mac and this hurts!
PLEASE someone help me, I only see a USB, DO they sell some thing to help get the Video into iMOVIE?

Search this forum for "compatible, DVD camcorder" and you will find many threads where people lament this truth:
iMovie is for miniDV formatted video connected via Firewire.
Mini DVD camcorders are designed for you to do very light editing on the camera before you finalize the DVD and don't support being imported into a computer. Anyway, many of the experts here know of converters and workarounds, if you want to spend some more money. You could start with these threads:

Looking for forums for Sony digital video camera recorder DCR-TRV 11

I've been thinking hard and decided that I WILL use my Sony digital video camera recorder DCR-TRV 11. (I was being tempted by a smaller Sony that has a 40x optical zoom.
Question: Do you know of where I can find a good forum for this brand and model? I Googled it but would like personal recommendations.

Hi, I just bought a Sony Digital Reader and want to put a book that I have downloaded into Adobe Digital reader onto my Sony Digital reader, but I cannot figure out how to do this. I can import through my Sony software, but I cannot pickup the book from Adobe. How do I move the ebook from Adobe to my hand-held reader? If anyone has an answer, please let me know and thanks in advance. Make the answer easy if you have one.

I did finally get my books moved onto my Sony Digital Reader. I moved the folder over rather than trying to move the individal books over. By moving the folder I got the books into the Sony Library on my PC and then I could transfer them to my Reader. Maybe not the most original way to do it - but it worked for me!

Can I transfer 11 books on my original Sony Digital Reader to my PRST-1 Sony Reader?

Some of my books are in my newer PRST-1 Sony Reader but 11 are stuck in the older Sony Digital Reader and I want to move them into the newer one.
Can I transfer the 11 books that are on my original Sony Digital Reader to my newer Sony PRST-1 Reader so that all of my purchased books are in there?
If so, do I need Digital Editions? Or should I use the Sony software?
I cannot recall the Adobe ID associated with my Sony Reader account and lost any information in my old computer for tracking that down. Perhaps there is a way to find that info in the Sony Reader itself.
Please advise.

Quick Time is not recognizing my Digital video camera (sony digital 8) Am using ieee cable and camera is recognized as on and imports if I open iMovie, but when I go to quick time, new movie, I get drop down message that says "No recording device found." All other applications are closed and not interfering with QT. How do I get QT to recognize camera?

Did you use the very same camera on either Mac or just the same model? When my Mac (also G5 1.8 Dual, though the earlier spring model) had problems recognizing my Sony, it was a question of setting the USB mode on the camera: E.G. my camera allow to set its USB mode to either Normal or PTP, the PTP setting caused problems at times, though its too long to tell, of which nature they were. May be woth a try

Camera Connector Kit and SONY Digital camera MP4 files

Using the Camera Connector Kit I am able to copy SONY Digital camera MP4 files. I am unable to play it on the iPad. I have tested this on 4.2 and 4.3GM of iOS.
With more and more people using iPads this type of functionality should be working.

Sony Digital Camcorder -TRV27

I have a SONY Digital Camcorder, model DCR-TRV27. This model was probably released sometime in 2001/2002. The camera supports connection to either a Windows PC or MAC using a USB cable.I followed the instructions in the camera manual andalso the instructions from iMovie but not having any success in viewing and/or transferring the movies from Camcorder to iMovie. Do I need any additional software on the iMac?

The TRV27 is a miniDV tape camcorder, so it must be connected to your Mac with a 4-pin-to-6-pin FireWire cable, not a USB cable. (..Sony calls the cable an 'i.Link' cable, sometimes it's called a DV cable..)
The USB connection is only for retrieving things stored on the camcorder's Memory Stick.
You don't need any additional software: iMovie is all that you need for importing the video. But a FireWire/i.Link/DV cable wouldn't have been included in the box with the camera; Sony only included the USB cable. (That's because for connection to most PCs of that era you'd need a 4-pin-to-4-pin cable, whereas Macs need a 4-pin-to-6-pin cable ..so Sony didn't include either one.)
The cable you need looks like this: buy one at any electronics shop.

Does it use lithium ion or AA batteries? (no time to look up that model atm)
If Li-Ion - I've never seen a unit that didn't come with a charger.
If AA - Most units come with a set of nonrechargeable batteries and that's it, at most. If AA, I strongly reccommend a GOOD Ni-MH charger such as the MaHa MH-C9000 or LaCrosse BC-900 - worth the money.

Chances are the pinnacle is producing .avi files or MPEFG1/2 streams - iTunes may know how to decode the audio but not the video. Download Handbrake and try running the Pinnacle files through it and adding to iTunes - use Universal format unless you have a specific device in mind.
Keep copies of the originals.
Another option might be to try to install Perian. Can't remember if the Apple MPEG2 plugin allows MPEG2 to be played in iTunes.

Given my 10 years of service with my company, I have been given the opportunity to receive a Sony DCRTRV-280 digital 8 camcorder.
Will this work with my iBook G4?
Having read some past posts, it seems like it will work, but not without jumping through a couple of hoops.
Anyone have experience with this unit being used on a mac?

I use a Sony Digital-8 TRV 330E, and it works perfectly with my G3 and G4 PowerBooks, Mac mini, etc.
In the UK, and the rest of Europe, some lower-priced camcorders have a FireWire OUT connection ..so that you can feed your footage into iMovie.. but don't necessarily have a FireWire IN connection ..for feeding your edited footage back to a tape in the camcorder. You may want to check and see if the DCRTRV-280 does have FireWire IN, but it's sure to have FireWire OUT, so that you can take the footage from the camera and edit it.
But there WON'T be a FireWire cable in the box with the camera: you'll have to buy one separately ..you'll need a 4-pin-to-6-pin FireWire (..also called 'DV' or 'i.Link' or IEEE..) cable from a camcorder or electronics shop.

Sony Digital 8 TRV 310 not recognized

I can't get FCE 3.0 to recognize a Sony Digital 8 TRV 310. It works fine with I Movie but for some reason not with FCE. My FW cable is working fine since I tested it with IM. Help Please.

Importing a movie works with Sony digital 8 tape but no other tape will import

I can import movies from Sony Digital 8 tapes, but any other 8mm metal tapes will not import. Any Ideas why and how can I import other tapes. It shows on the playback screen but no data from device.

Try importing your iMovie project into FCP as follows:
In FCP:
1. > File >Open
2. Select the iMovie project you want to open
(the FCP Browser should then show the individual iMovie clips)
3. double-click the iMovie clips to open them in the FCP timeline
4. >File >Save Project As (to save your imported iMovie project as a FCP project)
5. Render the clips: because iMovie uses a different DV encoding method to FCP, so rendering iMovie media in FCP converts them to the FCP-compatible format.
