Sony DSC-RX100 raw file problem

With the latest compatibility raw update to Aperture 3.4.5.  The raw pictures I have in the camera become fish eye alike after imported to Aperture.  I have another mac at home, I didn't update to the latest patch and the raw pictures function normal.  Some of the old raw pictures also become fish eye alike.  Anyone has the same problem with a fix?  Or this is a bug from the update patch?  Thanks.

  • Please provide support for Sony DSC-R1 RAW files

    Dear Apple employee,
If by any chance you happen to read this topic, would you please forward this information to the Aperture team?
Some users need support for DSC-R1 Raw files in Aperture. Please do something.
    Thank you.

I can't believe that Apple can't take the time to support the DSC-R1...when I saw the new OS and 1.5 release I had high hopes, which gave way to dismay.
How can they support a so-so cam like the A100 and ignore the R1? I have Bibble Pro...they have no problem supporting the R1 and many other cams that Apple's radar can't seem to pick up.
This is really driving me nuts...Apple, how about listening to the rest of us?
Anyone for approaching Apple and/or the Aperture developers as a group?

  • Why do Sony DSC-RX100M3 raw files look strange in PE9 when flash has been used in the shot?

I have just bought a Sony DSC-RX100M3 camera and use it to shoot raw + jpeg.  I want to use the raw files in my Photoshop Elements 9, which has the Camera Raw plug-in version 6.5.0.216 installed. I have downloaded the Adobe DNG converter version 8.7.1.311 so I can import my Sony raw files into PE 9 as they cannot be used directly. Most of the time these raw files look OK, but when I use the flash on my camera and then look at the raw files in PE9 they look far more pink than the corresponding jpeg files. The jpeg files look more or less as I remember the scene when I shot the picture.
When I look at the same raw and jpeg files in Sony's own Image Data Converter software (version 4.2.04.17270) the raw and jpeg files look very similar to one another, and there is no pink colour cast in the raw file.
What am I doing wrong in Photoshop Elements? I though the DNG converter keeps all the information from the original raw file and makes no changes to it, so why does the raw file look so different when flash has been used?
Thanks for any help you can give!
    AVM

Looking at the pictures of the camera online, I'd say there is no lens shade--a device to keep light from the sides from causing lens flare--and the camera lens, itself, was just too far extended and there was a lens shadow.  You probably can't use the flash that close up and should back off and zoom in further.  Experimenting would give you a sense of what situations will have a shadow of the lens or not.
Your ACR plug-in is old enough not use have Process Version 2012, yet, only 2010 and 2003 so Adobe didn't have the idea to put the selector down next to the camera profile. The toning options are better with Process 2012 so that would be a reason to upgrade, but I am not sure that the Camera Neutral profile in PSE9 would be different than PSE13.  If Adobe changed the camera profiles then people's pictures would look different once they upgraded to a new version and that's not something that's supposed to happen.
You can certainly download the PSE13 trial and see if things look any different, but they may not:  Download a free trial or buy Adobe products | Adobe downloads   There would be newer minimum OS version requirements for the newer versions of Adobe software so check those out before trying to install, unless you're on Windows 7+ or OSX 10.8+ then it should be fine.
One more thing, the White-Balance tint is set to +10 by the camera:
This As Shot WB is more magenta and even when using the Adobe Standard profile, moving the Tint down to +0 makes things a little more green like your camera JPG.  So there is more than just changing the camera profile that you can do:

  • Sony RX100 raw files converted with DNG converter not recognizable

Since  installing Maverick 10.9.4 on the Mac, Sony RX100 raw files converted with DNG converter are no more recognizable.
    Somebody else the same problem?

I know my DNG files themselves and the info they contain are fine. But they're not properly supported in Mavericks 10.9.4 and I don't plan on switching to Windows. A file that I converted to a DNG using Adobe software is now listed as an unrecognized file in OSX. No thumbnails, no iPhoto, no Aperture. Essentially, no support. And this is a problem. A quick search will show you people with various Sony cameras (A7, RX100 mkI and mkIII, at least) having the same problem.
No matter where the blame falls, the simple fact is that if you shoot with various Sony cameras, use Adobe software to convert the file to DNG and happen to be an OSX user, you're files are no longer compatible with OSX or Apple's photo software. They will only open in Adobe software. You literally get a warning message from OSX saying, this is an unsupported file type when you try and open it.
Like I said previously, I've had a managed iPhoto library for about 5 years now, numerous hours of tagging and organzing, and every DNG file converted from a Sony ARW RAW is currently unsupported. Original ARW files work just fine. It's nuts. Maybe it's Adobe's fault. Maybe it's Apple's fault. It really doesn't matter. If DNG is not a reliable standard format under certain edge cases (Sony ARW, DNG converter, OSX Mavericks), it's not a reliable standard format at all. I just hope that Apple or Adobe figures this out, so that I can get those photos back.
In the mean time, certain users such as myself just can't rely on DNG. End of story.

  • Aperture raw support sony dsc-rx100

Do you know when Aperture will support raw (*.arw) files from Sony DSC-RX100.

Slightly off topic but since a few people have the camera already, has anyone tried the RX100 with the ipad camera connector?  Speculation is that it won't work, because the RX100 tried to pull power for charging its internal camera battery via USB, so the ipad error's out (doesn't like the attempted power draw) rather than importing the pictures (kind of like connecting a blackberry via the camera kit, in an attempt to download pictures from the blackberry, but not being able to do so since the blackberry wants to pull power via the USB port, too).

  • HT5182 I wonder if iPhoto supports the new Sony DSC-RX100 II camera.

I wonder if iPhoto supports the new Sony DSC-RX100 II camera. I know it is not supported by Aperture. Can anyone help please?

It's the system that supports the RAW formats. So if Aperture doesn't support it neither will iPhoto.
You'll have to wait until a new Digital Camera RAW Compatibility Update is issued by Apple for the camera.

  • Sony NEX-5N RAW file not recognized

I purchased and loaded from disk Adobe Elements 10.  When I try to open a RAW file (.ARW) from my Sony NEX-5N I get a message that it can't be opened because it is the wrong type of file.  How do I get Elements 10 to recognize the Sony NEX-5N RAW files?

this is the link for supported RAW formats

    1. check which version of ACR is installed with your PSE
    To check follow this  :
Windows :  Open Elements Editor from the welcome screen, then goto Help >> About Plugin >> Camer raw
Mac : Open Elements Editor , then goto Photoshop Elements menu>> About Plugin >> Camera raw and check the version
Check the version there, if its less that 6.5, then you have to update because the camers that you are usning , it requires 6.5 ACR version to work with PSE 10
To update goto Elements editor and and then goto help and update and this will show up the available updates for you PSE 10 which will include  ACR as well, once the update is done and installed , then relaunch the PSE 10 editor and then check the version once again  to be sure .
If it has updated to 6.5 or later then check your RAW files, they should work now..

  • Any way to process the new Sony a77 m2 RAW files , I know it is early :)

Any way to process the new Sony a77 m2 RAW files , I know it is early
Just curious if there is a work around now.  So, I can get it in LR
    HG

There is no Adobe raw support yet for this camera that was only announced May 1.
You’ll have to wait until the public release candidate for either LR or the DNG Converter becomes available at Adobe Labs at some point in the future:  http://labs.adobe.com/
If the sensor and optics are exactly the same as a previous camera, then you might be able to hack something into working by hex-editing the raw files to pretend they are that other camera, but I don’t have any information about what camera that might be.
About the best you can do, for now, is use Sony’s software to output TIFs from your raw files, and then edit those TIFs in Adobe software.  Be sure to adjust the WB before outputting the TIFs.

  • Camera raw cs4 and sony dsc-rx100

how do i make cs4 camera raw to work with sony's dsc-rx100?

Support for the RX-1 was added in Camera Raw 7.3. But I don't know if your camera was added before that or not. At any rate it wasn't supported in any version for Photoshop CS4. IF support has been added, you will have to use the DNG converter to create digital negative copies of your raw images. Those will open with what you have now. It might be that support for your camera will be added in an upcoming update. If that is the case then you will have to wait until the DNG converter update is released. But I can tell you that your native raw files will never be usable with ACR for Photoshop CS4.

  • Aperture 3 problem with Sony NEX-5n raw files

    Hi all,
I have a Sony Alpha NEX-5n camera and my brother advised to take the pictures in raw format in order to keep all the information the sensors gathered when making the picture. The problem I have is that the software Sony provides with the camera does not allow me to convert the raw files into other formats. I downloaded Aperture trial because my camera was listed in Apple webpage as one of the models that can use raw files with Aperture. My problem is that every time I try to import the raw files, Aperture tell me that it doesn't support the format, and I cannot open the photos in raw and therefore I cannot work with them. I can work with the JPEG, but that is not what I want.
I wanted to buy Aperture, but there is no point for me to do that if I cannot work with the raw files. Maybe it is the trial version, but then Apple would be posting the wrong information in the webpage and therefore should remove my camera from the list (it doesn't say anything about apgrades or updates).
Does anyone else have the same problem? Can anyone confirm that once I buy it, Aperture works with the raw files even if I have to update it?
Thank you very much. I am a Apple fan, but if it doesn't work, I will buy Lightroom or Corel even if they are more expensive.
    Savarena

    Hello Savarena,
Try to install the RAW compatibility update: Digital Camera RAW Compatibility Update 3.9
    - if is possible to do that with the Trial Version. This update supports your camera.

  • Does LR5 support Sony RX100 raw files?

I'm currently using LR3 and I will upgrade to 5 if it supports the RAW files. I want to try to avoid using the Sony raw file converter if possible. Thank you!

It supports RX100, RX100M2 and RX100M3 with the latest version 5.5, although there needs to be a fix for the RX100 M3 at ISO125 ... it is a little dark.

  • Sony A77 RAW file problems

I just converted to LR from Aperture, and when importing pics into LR, they have a lot of noise and and aren't as crisp as they should be.  I'm shooting with a Sony A77 in RAW format, so I don't understand the issue with the noise and clarity, but I've heard there might be a conflict between the Sony RAW files and LR's data converters.  Any help with this will be appreciated.

It’s all about what the Default settings are for Lightroom, which if you look is no luminance noise reduction and a linear contrast curve and neutral toning in the Basic area.  You can change the defaults to something else if you find a set of toning values that you always find yourself using.

  • RAW Files: unable to open Sony SLT A58 Raw files in PSE10

I have a Sony SLT 58 camera and have found that Elements 10 will not open RAW files from this camera.  However, an Earlier a350 that I owned had no problems.  Has any one have any thoughts as to why this is?

The SLT 58 requires at least the ACR 7.4 plug-in and this was first introduced with PSE11.
PSE13 is the current version, and if you’re OS is new enough (OSX 10.7, Win 7) then that’s be the most straight forward way to have support.
Otherwise, you can use the DNG Converter 7.4 or newer—usually use the newest version that your OS supports—to create DNG files from the native Sony raws, and then those DNGs will open in the older ACR plug-in for PSE10.
