Sony DSR-DR1000 Hard Disk DVCAM recorder

Is anyone using one of these with a Final Cut Studio system? I have the chance to purchase one at a high discount, but I'm not sure if it's useful enough. My questions:
1) The unit I'm looking at has a lot of fan noise. Is this typical?
2) Is there a way to use it like other hard disc recorders, i.e. take the recorded files directly off the system and import them into FCP?
3) Are there any other advantages to using this versus say a Citidisk or Firestore?
Thanks,
Eliot

Thanks John, and David. Further to my questions, here's some more background:
1. I looked through the m2t results from the search page, and many references are made to m2ts format but not so much referring to m2t files.
2. I guess my real question is: in PPro CS3 am I able to transfer the files (HDV .m2t) recorded by the Sony HVR-DR60 60GB hard drive and import them into a PPro CS3 HDV project? Please note I haven't purchased this hard drive yet.
3. I would be eventually outputting to a HD Windows Media File format (.wmv) using Adobe Media Encoder.
Thanks, and any insights you have to the above would be most appreciated.

  • Problems with Sony XDCAM PHU-60 hard disk unit

    Hello,
I have footage that was shot using an EX3 and recorded to the PHU-60 hard disk unit. I've been using this since September with no problems. Today when I went to transfer the footage to my computer the PHU-60 is not mounting. I connected it back to my camera and the footage is there. I tried connecting the camera to the computer and it still won't mount. I really need to get this footage from the PHU-60 onto my computer. Any suggestions? Has anyone else had problems like this with the PHU-60?

  • Widescreen with hard disk recorder

I searced on Letterbox and got a ton of posts so I thought I would just ask my question.. hopefully its not too lame.
I have 2 cameras with which I am shooting 16:9. One I am shooting with tapes the other I am using a nnovia quickcapture hard disk recorder.
When I capture into final cut from tape, I get letterboxed footage. When I bring footage in from the hard disk.. its widescreen, no letterbox. Obviously, I need to match the footage. How can I letterbox the footage coming in from the hard disk recorder?
Or, how can I match the footage in terms of dimensions. As an aside, when I use motion to zoom in on a cut I lose the letterboxing that Final Cut generated. How do I replace it?
    Thanks!!

i can't answer anything else but to above, that should be as simple as putting a widescreen matte on that clip that you're doing a zoom in on.

  • TV or hard disk recorder to Zen Na

Is there a way or cable to connect my Zen Nano to TV or Hard disk recorder via the line in for recording to the Nano?

Has the Nano a line-in connector - I thought it was the Nano Plus (and the N200) with the line-in.
If you just have the Nano then this won't be possible.

  • HDMI Hard Disk Recorder to Blackmagic Intensity Pro

I have a hard disk recorder (HDR) with an HDMI out. I am wondering if I can run that through a Blackmagic Intensity Pro card and pull ProRes 422 or DVCPro HD from it. (I know the card working in both formats) I'm wondering about the HDR interacting with the card.
Card looks great, we are hot to buy it, if this could work! Thanks for the help.
    Sean

It probably will not work. All HDMI output devices are to have HDCP support except Camcorders. The Intensity HDMI inputs do not support HDCP. Look in the literature of your HDR and look for HDCP. If it supports HDCP them you are out of luck.

  • How can I save captured clips to hard disk using the actual video recorded date, not the date I transferred it?

When using Batch capture in AP5.5, the clips are saved to hard disk using the capture date as the Created Date and Modified Date.  How do I configure Premier to use the actual clips recorded date (Meta Data Basic/Date Created) so that I can view them in Windows folders and other applications based on the date the video was recorded, not when I imported it.

AFAIK, there's no way to do that with Premiere Pro.  You can probably find a utility on the Internet that will change the dates for you after the fact.

  • Connexion of hard disk video camera SONY

I wanted to buy a new video camera SONY DCR SR210 with hard disk included and I read in some forums that connexion with Mac was if not impossible at least very difficult.
Why the connexion with iMovie which works automatically with my current mini DV SONY camera would not be possible ?
    Thanks

It won't be possible because that cam is not on the Apple compatibility list for iMovie 08.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1014
Why do you want to switch over to a hard drive cam anyway? Do you like lesser quality, more chance of losing precious memories and loss of easy archivability, as done easily with tape?
Get a better miniDV or maybe an HDV tape cam instead and stay with the best quality video and ease of use with ANY iMovie version.

  • Sony Hard Disk Camera and FCP

Just got a Sony Hard Disk camera. It appears to be formatting the movie files in mpeg2. FCP will not allow me to import the files into the browser. Quick Time also gives me an error saying that the files are not recognizable. Any suggestions?

    Sue:
If your camera just save video as MPEG2, you cannot use those files directly into FCP. You can use i.e. MPEG Streamclip to convert them to i.e. DV NTSC and import those files into FCP.
You didn't mention your camera model but probably it has only USB connection.
You must think about changing it for a camera with Firewire communication (as DV tape cameras) to get your footage directly into FCP without re-encoding.
    Hope it helps !

  • Hard disk free space and 192Khz/24bit time recording limit...

Hello, when I try to record a long stuff at high sampling rate... 96Khz or 192Khz - 24bit , the max time that I have is 65 minutes whit the metronome set at 20 bpm, the max recording time limit is not active, and the space of the hard disk is of 900 GB... but I have only 65 minute of recording time... is a big problem when I need to record classical stuff or a Live.
--- for 12 channels at 192Khz/24bit in 1 hour of recording time the hard disk space needed is aprox 3,9 Gb... how is possible that LP 7.2.1 limit my recording time ???---- if I go down to 48 Khz I have the time of 248 Minutes of recording... ----

Hello, when I try to record a long stuff at high
    sampling rate... 96Khz or 192Khz - 24bit , the max
time that I have is 65 minutes with the metronome set
    at 20 bpm.
Try setting the metronome higer, say 30 or 40.
There may be a quirk in that the lowest metronome settings don't always give you the most time.
Failing that, try another application. Do you by any chance
have the OEM version of Cubase LE or Mackie's Tracktion?
Both of those will get you more time at 96khz/24.
(Seems that both of those applications come as freebies with a lot of different hardware)
You can record the tracks in one app then import them into Logic.

  • Editing Sony material frppm SOny hard disk

I have footage shot with the very small new Sony hard disk camcorder. AVCHD with .MTS format.
How do I get it into FCP6 for editing? Can I output on DVD or some other format?

Update to 6.0.2...then use the Log and Transfer option in the FILE menu. In the little Sprocket drop down menu, choose PRO RES or AIC as the transcoding option...as FCP doesn't deal with AVCHD natively.
OUtput to DVD? Yes...via COmpressor and DVD Studio Pro. SD DVD only. And...what other format were you thinking about?
