SONY DVD RW DW-U10A erkennt keine Double layer dvd

Hallo Leute,
Leonardo

I don't know which dual layer type the DVD is.
That doesn't matter, as reading should not be a problem for the drive.
Writing is the problem.
I do know that OS X 10.5x does not support writing (burning) to DL DVD-R. Reading is fine.
OS X 10.4x supports writing to DL DVD+R, but not DL DVD-R.
If you have Toast or DragonBurn, you may have better write support.
The Sony drive, however, has old firmware, so slower media has better compatibility than fast media.
And, the OS version determines which DL media to use.

  • Sony - DVDirect 16x External USB 2.0 Double-Layer DVD±RW Drive

I posted this in another subject, but I really need professional opinions.  We are getting ready to start our basketball season, and I would like to have video equipment that would record at great quality and could be easily and quickly transferred to a dvd.
My thoughts were to purchase the Sony - DVDirect 16x External USB 2.0 Double-Layer DVD±RW Drive.  This seems to allow you to burn from the camera.  What is everyone's thoughts on this product and would a Sony - High-Definition DVD Camcorder with 120GB Hard Disk Drive and 2.7" LCD Monitor - Black be a useful purchase with this drive?

    Hi classact,
It sounds like this drive should work for standard definition footage, but as Entropy stated in your other thread on this issue you are going to want a Blu-ray burner drive for High Definition footage. I also agree with Entropy in that you are better off streaming your video footage to a computer (with a Blu-ray burner drive) than investing in this external drive. When it comes to burning/uploading video footage there is no quick process if you want to retain quality without investing in a computer with a very fast processor (and of course enough RAM).
This camcorder should meet or exceed your expectations, but I am personally partial to flash drive based camcorders. You can store a lot more footage on a hard drive based camcorder, which does mean that you won't have to upload your footage as often, but the less moving parts a camcorder has the longer it will last.
    I hope this helps!

  • Photoshop Album 2.0.1 kennt keine Double Layer DVD?

    Hallo Experten,

  • Can my Intel iMac read double-layer DVDs?

What are double-layer DVDs as opposed to regular ones, anyways?
A friend wants to send me several DVDs worth of files on "double-layer DVDs". Can I read them?
    I have a Intel iMac (dual processor) with a MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-846 CD/DVD Drive.
I don't want my friend to go through this and then I can't read them. Especially since he makes it out like double-layer DVDs are maybe new or advanced?
    Huh? Anyone?

Can my Intel iMac read double-layer DVDs?
    Yes.
What are double-layer DVDs as opposed to regular ones, anyways?
These DVDs contain a second writable layer, which doubles the DVD's capacity.

  • Disc image form a double layer DVD fails

I am trying to make a disc image from a double layer DVD in Disc Utility (os 10.5.1) so I can burn another copy (I burned the disc I am copying from, so it should not be encrypted or anything) and it has an i/o error part way through each time I try, I am guessing it is hitting the double layer splice point and not knowing what to do or something.
Any help would be much appreciated!
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi
There is a far fetched solution - but far from perfect.
(Best You can do is as Old Toad writes - Make it SL from start)
    But anyhow
    • in iDVD Save as a DiskImage
    • Then use Roxio Toast™ and copy the DiskImage to a new SL-DVD - BUT also select Fit-on-DVD.
Now Toast will re-compress (takes sever amount of time) so that the material will fit (up to 10 hours on a SL-DVD)
BUT there are several Cons. to this
    • Roxio Toast™ is not free - nor is it cheap
    • Takes a long time to do
    • Resulting DVD will look poor (Much worse than a SL-DVD from iDVD from start)
    (A 10 hour SL-DVD - looks like crap)
So Yes it's technically possibly - But I can not motivate it at all.

  • Disk Utility fails to create image from double layer DVD

I burned a double-layer DVD using iDVD. It plays fine on the mac and on set-top DVD players. However, when I try to create an image of the DVD using Disk Utility, I get "Can't create image 'name.cdr' (input/output error)". I've tried re-burning the original disk, but it gets the same error when trying to create an image. I've also tried each of the image types, all with the same result.

I was having similar problems, although I don't think my issues was related to a double-layer DVD. What worked for me was selecting File > New > Disk Image from Folder. Select the DVD in the file open/save dialog with the same options you used before (e.g., DVD/CD master, etc).

  • Burning Double Layer DVDs in iDVD 6.0.3

I can't seem to burn double layer DVDs. I am using an intel iMac which says i should be able to but it won't accept discs to burn.
Is it because i am using 8.5GB discs because iDVD says in the project info that double layer DVD should be 7.7GB?
    Any thoughts...?

I am having the same problem!
I am Using basic DVD+R DL discs.
Under "Project" and "Project Info" i change the "DVD Type:" to "Double-Layer (DL) - 7.7 GB"
the burn process will act completely normal until the very end.
It will spit out the disk and stick on "cleaning up" or on "writing lead-in".
Then, when DVD is reinserted in to the computer, it will read it like a blank disk (it gives you the "you have inserted a blank disc" menu).
If any one has any idea what's going on please let us know. it would be extraordinarily appreciated!

  • Macbook Pro doesn't read Double layer DVD ?

I have a Macbook Pro 15", about 4-5 years old, and it isn't reading a double layer DVD? Is there anyway of reading this DVD in this machine?
I have even tried reading it through my 1 year old Macbook on that DVD drive which does read DVD DL and it still doesn't work?
How come it doesn't read this Verbatim DVD-DL but when you install software from elsewhere it does read the DVD's, which are also DL are they not?

Okay. Well my Macbook Pro allows other DVD's to be viewed in the drive, and the DL DVD that has the media on it works on the Macbook but not the Pro. And of course the Macbook Pro doesn't write to DL, it is only supposed to read DL, so the media was burnt on the Macbook and not the Pro, so I don't think it is the DVD or the drive.
Therefore I am a little bit lost. If anyone else has any other clues I would be greatful, I will clean the drive in the meantime.
    Thanks, Ian

  • HELP: Burning double layer DVD does not work as expected by project info

    Hi,
I have the following problem: I created an new project in iDVD and choose the following settings in the project info: Video-Modus=PAL, Coding=HighQuality, Format=16:9 and DVD-Typ=DoubleLayer. When I saved the project and open it again the project info dialog shows me the following amounts of used space: 1867 MB DVD-ROM, 4595 MB Diashows, 128 MB Menus, 0 MB Film, alltogether 6,48 GB and 200 minutes of duration.
NOW: When I choose to burn the DVD it first tells me that I need to use a double layer DVD because the project is too large to be burned to a normal DVD. If I press OK (having inserted the DL-DVD), I am back in the standard iDVD editing mode. If I then have a look to the settings in the project info it is as follows: 3733 MB DVD-ROM, 4595 MB Menus, 128 MB Menus, 0 MB Film, alltogether 8,31 GB and still 200 minutes of duration. This obviously does not fit to the 7,7 GB DL-DVD so I cannot make iDVD to burn my DVD...
QUESTION: What happend ? Why doubled the DVD-ROM space ? In fact what I can see is that there are several diashows doubled and even lots of picture more than once on the DVD. Could it be that there is a trash somewhere implemented ? I cut and pasted some of the diashows to a different place on the DVD...
    Thanks for answers and support.

In fact what I can see is that there are several diashows doubled and even lots of picture more than once on the DVD.
Do you mean "slideshows" instead of diashows?
Did you add anything to the dvd-rom section of the DVD? If not, you may want to check this section to see what's going on.
Also what does map view look like? Does it show anything that may have been duplicated?
Please tell us your current ecoding settings.
In other words, is the encoding set to Best Quality, Best Performance, or Professional Quality?
Lastly, is this Dvd made up of of only slidesshows / images? Or did you also add a movie/s with actual video footage? And if so, what is the total playback / run time of this Dvd in hours and minutes? (keep in mind iDvd doesn't look at size/s but rather total QT playback in minutes; not to exceed 120 mins per SL Dvd-R and twice that amount for DL media).

There is no special DVD drive required. Your iBook's combo drive will be able to read the Leopard disc.

  • Help! Can't Burn Double Layer DVD

I bought some Double Layer DVD+ DVDs to archive photos and other files for storage in my safe deposit box. When I try to burn the DVD from the finder I get the message that an unexpected error has occurred. The disk does not even get burned. I can reinsert it into the internal DVD drive and it shows up as a blank DVD. The following is from my system profiler:
    MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-845:
    Firmware Revision: DBN9
    Interconnect: ATAPI
    Burn Support: Yes (Apple Shipped/Supported)
    Cache: 2048 KB
    Reads DVD: Yes
    CD-Write: -R, -RW
    DVD-Write: -R, -RW, +R, +RW, +R DL
    Burn Underrun Protection CD: Yes
    Burn Underrun Protection DVD: Yes
    Write Strategies: CD-TAO, CD-SAO, DVD-DAO
    Media: No
How can I archive the files to a DVD +R DL disk?
    Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the advice. However, I bought these DVDs at a closeout sale. They are labeled "Comp USA" who has gone out of business. I bought a spindle of 20 DVDs for $9.95. I wonder why the DVD burner is so particular?

  • SONY DVD RW DW-U10A Won't read Double Layer DVDs since 10.4.9

    Folks
Been browsing for an answer to this problem, and it seems these SONY DVD RW DW-U10A — for a start — are not very reliable, but I also notice quite a few stating they have had problems since upgrading to 10.4.9.
I am trying to re-install my FCP Studio after a crash on my G5, now it SEEMS my SONY DVD RW DW-U10A won't recognize the disks that are double-layer.
I don't want to go off buying a new drive if the problem is in 10.4.9 — and if Apple are going to remedy the 10.4.9 problem.
    Any help from anyone?
    Regards
    Roy

    Folks
Further to this — tried to install (as an experiment) on my iMac, which has a Pioneer Drive, and it reads the disks okay — with 10.4.9!
    So.......?????

  • Backing Up my library with Double layer DVDs

I recently tried to back up all my 20GB of music and video content from my iTunes library.
Using File>Library>Back Up library I inserted a DL DVD+R and it says that iTunes needs 6 discs in order to perform the back up. I thought about it and it's completely impossible for it to need 6 discs like these to do the back up.
If you do the math it would only take 3 of them to complete the back up. Suppose I have more videos or TV shows, still 6 discs would make this ilogical. Does anyone know if it's possible to burn the back up using Double Layer Discs?

Just buy an external hard drive and back up your library, as well as all playlists, play counts, etc., by simply copying the entire iTunes folder over onto the external hard drive. Optical discs are too much of a pain, at least until all our computer come with blue ray burners.
