Sony GV-HD700 issue

I'm having issues with FCP using the Sony GV-HD700 for video playback. I cannot get it to run as an HD playback device. DV seems to work ok, but the options for HDV are all grayed out.
My sequence preset is: HDV-1080i60
Capture preset is: HDV
Device Control Preset is: Sony HDV firewire
I'm trying to use a firewire connection. On the deck itself my settings look correct.
I've set the HDV/DV Sel to HDV. My i.link conv. is turned off, and my A/V-DV out setting is turned off.
I've tried handfuls of settings and have not had success yet.
Any ideas?

#25 HDV external Monitor Viewing
Shane's Stock Answer #25 - HDV external Monitor Viewing
To view HDV on an external monitor you are going to need to purchase a capture card, like the ones Decklink (www.decklink.com) or AJA (www.aja.com) offer. They will both play out HDV in real time. The catch is that you cannot view this on a regular TV or NTSC monitor. Since this is HD, an HD monitor will be needed. HOWEVER, both cards are capable of down converting the signal so that it can be displayed on an SD monitor. This won't be color accurate
HDV cannot be played out of FCP via Firewire because it's Long GOP structure is too taxing on your processors to spare the system resources needed to drive an external monitor.
The best option you have is the Matrox MXO...$1000. This coupled with an Apple 23" display gets you color correction quality...but, it isn't compatible with COLOR yet. www.matrox.com
And there are the Decklink Intensity and Intensity PRO cards as well.
You can view HDV out firewire as DV...as stated in page 220 of the manual:
"For example, you can preview a 720p30 HDV sequence via an NTSC DV FireWire device
connected to an external monitor. The output signal is letterboxed and downconverted
to NTSC video. You can also use a third-party interface to view any format supported by
Final Cut Pro—as long as the frame rate of your clip or sequence matches the frame
rate of your current output device."
But I haven't a clue how to get that to work. Manual doesn't say as far as I can tell. THis is for external viewing only...not good for color correction.

  • Sony GV-HD700 wont capture

No matter what combo of settings I use, I can not get Final Cut to capture HD footage off the Sony GV-HD700 deck. I have tried several coronations of setting on both the deck and FCP 6 and nothing works. Any ideas?

Yes on all three. I have set the capture preset to all the HDV settings I have, and have used the all the HDV firewire control settings, including the sony ones. It will control the deck, but it wont preview and when I hit capture now or set an in and out point, it wont capture. It says that there is no data. I have also unplugged the firewire and changed the iLink settings on the deck. Neither on or off work. I have also changed the HDV settings to Auto and HDV and nothing.

  • Sony GV-HD700 Output problems

I've been trying to Print to Video for days now. Does anyone have a definitive answer on this mystery? I can successfully capture material in both DV and HDV, though in HDV the frame size of my clips is still 720x480 even though I set it up for 1440x1080 in the presets, but I can't Print to Video in either of the formats.
    My deck settings are....
    HDV/DV SEL: HDV
    DV Rec Mode: SP
    Component: 1080i/480i
    i.LINK Conv: On
    TV Type: 4:3
    A/V to DV Out: On
My FCP Audio / Video Settings are....
    Seq. Preset: HDV-1080i60
    Capture Preset: HDV
Device Control Preset: Sony HDV FireWire
Video Playback: None ( but I can change without affecting ability to capture. )
Audio Playback: Default ( but I can change without affecting ability to capture. )
Under A/V Devices tab I have selected.....
Different Output for Edit to Tape/Print to Video
    Video: HDV (1440x1080) 60i
    Audio: HDV
After trying several other combinations the system seems to take control of the deck, rolls tape, transcodes or conforms to HDV, transfers to deck or camera, but nothing actually records on the tape.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks,

  • Sony GV-HD700 HDV Video Walkman VCR to MacBookPro with FinalCut

I've been using my HDV camera as a playback device to get 720p30 HDV captured into FinalCutPro 6. The firewire from the camera to the Mac works fine. Will the
Sony GV-HD700 HDV Video Walkman VCR allow me to capture 720p30 HDV from tape to Final Cut via firewire? If not firewire, what kind of cabling do I need to get pictures and sound into FCP from the GV-HD700 deck?
    Thanks!

The specs listed on B & H note that one cannot transfer HDV720p/30 via firewire, but the comments on the same site regarding the recorder in question seem to rebut this. I've since read a suggestion about defeating the down-convert option on the deck, so that FCP, which is expecting to capture HDV based on my capture settings, will recognize what's coming through the firewire. I'm wondering if I'll be able to control the deck through the capture window, or just start tape and capture now. Thoughts? Thanks very much!

  • Mac mini and Sony tv resolution issue

    Hello,
I have recently purchased a Mac mini for the purposes of hooking it up to my 51" Sony Wega HDTV. I took the mini out and connected the DVI adaptor that came in box and then hooked the mini to the tv via HDMI cable thinking this was the best possible connection for my mini. I have an issue where the screen is over flowing off the TV screen. I looked in system preference and have very limited resolution options but 1080i was selected and also over scan was checked. If I deselect overscan I get borders which I don't want. My tv doesn't have many options so how can I calibrate these two to work togethor?

I just discovered this is not a TV issue at all...
Uh, yes it is. Overscan is a condition unique to TVs. Computer monitors don't do it (overscan) hence there is normally no need for the kind of graphics card driver you are talking about, e.g. one that has precise control of video borders.
Many TVs on the market today have a method for defeating overscan, tucked away somewhere in their menu system, in order to allow the TV to be used just like a computer monitor. That is always the preferred solution when it is available because it will make the best possible image on the TV.
Your TV is a rear projection TV. Such TVs are not well suited for use as computer monitors because overscan is naturally baked into the optics architecture, meaning the manufacturer deliberately sets the mirror and lens system in such a way as to cause the native resolution (1280 x 720 in the case of your TV) to extend beyond the edges of the projection screen. Therefore it is impossible to get the native resolution of the projector's engine to display fully and perfectly on the screen. Only scaled or bordered version of it can ever be displayed. It's all fixed at the factory and there's no getting around the fact.
For the original G4 Mac mini that had ATI Graphics, there was a driver like the one you found for your father's Windows computer that allowed video borders to be set independent of resolution. But apart from that early effort on the part of ATI, I have not seen anything like that since for minis that have graphics based on Intel or nVidia hardware. I think you are going to be stuck with the dark video borders as a necessary limitation of the TV you own in the absence of any driver to counteract that limitation.
I believe the media center front end app called Plex has a facility for setting video borders, but I've never used it personally since I am able to turn overscan off on my TV. So I can't vouch for how well it works. And in any case, since it is bound to the app, it will only be active when Plex is running and not when, say for example, the Finder is in use, which is when you most need it.

  • Sony Bravia 32LCD issue

Hi.  I bought a Sony Bravia 32 inch LCD TV in July 08.  Last night the TV picture turned blurrey.  The first three inches of the TV is fine.  But below that you can still see the picture but it blurrey and the words jump abit.  I called the cable company to rule out a cable issues.  Checked all the plugs and stuff, nothing.  So I called my local Best Buy and the guy said it could be a panel issue.  Happens on all channels and when a DVD is in.  No one is avaiable until 12/24 to look at it.  Does anyone know what it might be?  I am kinda mad I have to wait almost a week to get it even looked at.  Thanks.

Which graphics card do you have enabled? The integrated Intel or discrete ATI? Which OS? Latest drivers?

  • SONY TV Skype Issues - no audio on KDL-46W905A

    Hi,
I own a SONY KDL-46905A TV and recently bought an overpriced CMU BR200 Webcam.  When I connect to another party, they can hear and see me but I can only see them.  I have tried it with a few people and checked that their end is not on mute.  When I switch to audio only, I can hear them (but not see them).
I think this might be an issue with the Sony application, so I factory reset the TV to prompt an app down.  However, I still get no audio for calls I recieve with video.
As it stands, I have wasted my money on a web cam.  Does anyone know a fix?
    Neil..

Thank you Mr. MBSteed.  I moved the HDMI cable from my Apple TV from the HDMI2 input on my Samsung TV to the HDMI1 input and it now works fine! I think I read somewhere that there are some differences between the HDMI inputs on the Samsung, but I don't understand them.  Odd, everything worked fine until we started using Airplay, then suddenly I had no sound from the Apple TV.  Hopefully this is a permanent fix.  oh....I have the new Apple tv May 2013.
    Thanks again.

  • HELP!  Sony miniDVD camera issues with iMovie.

I have a Sony DVD403 connected to my iMac, trying to bring over movie files to iMovie via USB connection. Apparently Sony records in MPEG format, and I cannot get iMovie or QT Pro to "see" my files....SONY support is no help. Is this Sony camera not supported on Mac? Am I going to have to ditch this $$$ mini DVD camera and invest in a DV camera??? Any and all suggestions welcomed!
    iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

welcome busy to the  board...
that "miniDVDcamcorder not supported" is a well discussed issue here, just read a few pages, if you're not too busy doing so...
    a) iMovie is a video edit app meant to work with firewire connected miniDV camcorders
by concept, no word of DVD... mpeg2 is a delivery format, not meant for further processing...
    b) iM can control cameras just by firewire protocol, not usb
    c) you can import miniDVD content, but...
    d) don't insert miniDVD in slot-in drives => get an ext. dvd drive..
    e) dvd/mpeg2 needs conversion, choose....:
    * DVDxDV (free trial, 25$, Pro: 90$)
    * Apple mpeg2 plugin (20$) + Streamclip (free)
    * Cinematize >60$
    * Mpeg2Works >25$ + Apple plug-in
    * Toast6/7 allows converting to dv/import dvd, hit apple-k
Am I going to have to ditch this $$$ mini DVD camera and invest in a DV camera?
best practise, in case you want to use iMovie....

  • Sony NEX 5N Issue! Camera turns on, but shows no info on LCD and goes dark after shutter release.

I have a Sony NEX 5N, that has been a great camera since I originally purchased it. It suddenly started to have a strange issue that is rendering it useless. The camera turns on, and shows an image on the LCD. You can even focus and take a shot, but the LCD is missing all info, and all buttons are useless. After taking a pic, the camera goes dark, and stays there. I've tried a soft reset, and removing the battery for extended amounts of time. Is there anything else I can try?

    Hi jdotlopez,
    Welcome to the Sony Community!
From what you've described and from the troubleshooting that you did, I would agree with bitsnpieces that the camera may need service.
You can set up repair for your NEX5N camera at http://www.precisioncamera.com/.

  • Is sony correcting the issues with the PS4 controllers. The material for the analog sticks need to be changed.

I would like to get a ps4 but both my friends ps4 controllers analog sticks are tearing. I have used both the ps4 controller and xbox1 controller, I like both but prefer the lighter feel of the xbox1 analog sticks they are more comfortable and durable. I dont want to buy a xbox1 but if sony does not correct this issue it will sway my decision. I really like the additonal power the ps4 offers but the controller is a major concern. When microsoft came out with the 360 it had reliability issues, microsoft instead of fixing the problem had consumers send there 360's in for repair. They would not admit they made a mistake with the design of the system and the so called repair was temporary for may consumers as it would just overheat again and you would experience the same red ring of death. My 360 broke 3 times which made me lose all faith in microsoft as a company. The decieved consumers instead of correcting the issue. I hope Sony learns from their mistakes. Dont send consumers the same flawed controllers, admit there was a production mistake and fix it!!! If you guys change the material and correct the issue please email me, if it is corrected I will be a playstation owner if not I guess I will have to go with microsoft. I would also love to see analog sticks with less resistance, closer to the xbox1 sticks.
Thanks for listening hope you take these comments into consideration.

Please share your suggestion on  Sony PlayStation Community here. I'm sure they'd appreciate it. Thank you!

  • Sony GV-HD700 HD Video Walkman

Sony's relatively new offering, the GV-HD700, looks like it might make a good feeder deck for editing HDV/DV. Has anyone had an opportunity to road test this unit? Thoughts/Comments?

Ron: My experience with previous generation DV walkmans is that they work perfectly as feeders, but the mechanism (which really is consumer grade) simply can't stand the wear. I have a ruined GVD-300 in my desk that broke a few times until it was damaged beyond repair. Just from normal use. DSR-11s DVCAM decks didn't exist at the time, but every unit I used since then seems to keep going like Duracell rabits. These things are designed for business/medical presentations, rather than being controlled remotely by a computer all day. When Sony puts a pro label on a deck, even if the features are similar, it simply is way more robust. And it may be less expensive in the long run.

  • AVDHD - Sony NXCAM - Render Issues

    Hi everyone,
I've searched all over the forums and the rest of the Internet and still can't find a definitive answer, so I need some help, please!
    Here's the system specs:
    Camera:
    Sony NXCAM (AVCHD Format)
The camera appears to use the mp4/h264 codec, according to the manual.
    Shooting:
video: 1080 / 30p (at the highest bitrate setting)
    audio: 16-bit LPCM
    Workstation:
    Windows 7
    Intel Xeon Quad-Core 2.67
    6 Gb Memory
    NVidia Quadro 2000
These are the steps that I have been using:
    1. Copy the original footage onto a folder on the computer (I have been copying the entire AVCHD folder so the meta-data etc is all there).
    2. Create a new project and sequence in Premiere Pro. I have tried many different formats, but the one that I am using is under the "AVCHD Presets" --> AVCHD 1080p30 29.97 fps at 1920 x 1080. This is the exact same setting we are recording on the camera... the camera's settings are progressive and not interlaced, and they are also not anamorphic. I understand that there are discrepancies to what is "better" or what is truly being recorded (30p vs. 60i).. I did see that in the owners manual it states the system "Video Signal" is HDTV 1080/60i, 720/60p. Either way, the settings on the camera are set to 1080 30p.
    3. I can successfully import the media into the media bin in a Premiere Pro project.
This is where there are a few issues:
    4. When I preview the clips, they are very jumpy, have some pixelation and artifacts, and appear to have a wobbly movement to them. Note - once they are rendered, this goes away.
    5. Upon bringing this clips onto the timeline - it always shows a red line above the clip, indicating it needs to be rendered. Usually, the amount of time it takes to render is equal to real-time... I was working on a project today with 2h 30m of clips and it took over 2 hours to render. I called Adobe support, and the person on the phone ASSURED me that EVERY clip needs to be rendered.. my reply was "even if the sequence settings are the EXACT same as the clip?", and he assured me that every clip needs to be rendered always.. which I don't believe. If the settings on the sequence are right, there's no reason that the clip should have to render.
I understand that .MTS files must be stored and compressed heavily to be put on a memory card - so is this always a necessary step? Do the files need to be "unpacked" somehow? If so, why not just use tapes like before? The entire reason that our video unit switched to tapeless formats was because of the ease in workflow. If it takes almost realtime to render everything, what is the big benefit of using a tapeless format?  I understand that there are some upgrades in version 5.5, but I am not sure that we can upgrade at this point, do to budget concerns.
Any help would be much appreciated - Like I said, we called support and didn't feel like we recieved any. Again, all we'd like to do is be able to import our footage and begin editing without having to render raw footage.. many of the clips we have to work with are just raw, uncut video files that need to be burned to dvd in a timely manner for training purposes. Thanks again for your support.

    Thanks for the help, guys..
I tried both techniques, and there is still a yellow bar present above the clips.
I understand that the yellow bar indicates that it may not be necessary to render, however the clips still appear very jittery on the timeline just as they do in the preview monitor. Is this a 60i vs. 30p de-interlacing issue that I'm looking at?
Not to jump the gun here, but is this a situation where we should be sending files to AME if we have several hours of footage that was taken for documentation purposes vs. importing the smaller projects directly into Pr where the clips will be much smaller edits?
I guess the follow up question is, should we be using an interlaced timeline at 60i? This isn't my first choice - I'd rather be at 30p for the timeline settings.
    Again, much appreciated!

  • Sony 46V5100 clouding issue

Just got this TV and it has noticable clouding on all four corners, especially at night during black scenes.  I see it's a common problem after googling it.  How do I replace this TV when its out of stock everywhere locally?

I had this same model and returned it.  I saw the clouding issues just like you are saying, but the deal breaker for me was the red flashing that this series is known for.  It happens on certain times where the red in the picture will flicker to a different type of red.  You can google "Sony V5100 series red flashing" and learn more about it.  I heard that it is really bad on The Daily Show.   I exchanged this tv for a Samsung and upon setting up the Samsung, I looked it over and found at least 2 dead pixels, so I am either going to exchange it for the same model or go plasma, I'm not sure yet.  I hope this helps you to make a wise decision about keeping or taking back your V series tv.  If you can't deal with these two issues, flashlighting and red flashing, I would not exchange for the same model because it seems they all have these issues.
