  • DVD-101 Sony Handycam importing problems?

    I have the mpeg2 plug-in from Apple, and the free Streamclipicon.mpeg, but I still have a problem importing all the video clips. I imported a movie from my camcorder and got only three short clips? One clip was of all the scenes as it appears on the playback of the camcorder. The other two short clips were about 5 seconds each. How do I get all the clips in imovie?

    Adobe wouldn't help me on the phone, as I haven't got a support contract. Perfectly rational by them, just stupid.
    I've asked my software supplier to forward on some questions and a link to this thread to Adobe support and they should be looking at it soon.
    Also, there is another possible solution that might help those of you with full versions.
    There is some advice here on one way to give Premiere Pro the ability to import MPEGs.

    This is very attractive to me - as I know the AC3 audio codec is used by my MPEG files and it sounds like it could be a solution. Of course, I've tried it, and I still get the same error.
    I ran the files through TSRemux and got the same 'file format not supported' error message.
    I've also been trying to import a .mov file into the trial version and I get the same error. Jim, would you be able to help me by saying in which other ways the trial version is limited?

  • Sony Handycam .mpg convert

    Hello,
    I have a Sony Handycam with .mpg videos on it. Today I bought the Quicktime Pro so I can convert the fill over. How do I do that? ever time I click on the file, I receive an error message "The movie could not be opened". Please Help!!

    Today I bought the Quicktime Pro so I can convert the fill over. How do I do that?
    You can't. What you should have purchased was the QT MPEG-2 Playback component ($20). It, together with the free MPEG Streamclip application will convert the files and retain the audio. While QT Pro with the MPEG-2 component installed will open and convert the video portion of your multiplexed file, it cannot extract and sync frame level instances of audio with its video frame data instances.

  • Problems importing Sony Handycam mpg files into Premier Pro CS4

    I'm investigating Premier Pro CS4 for video editing and if I can make it work okay then I will purchase the Master Collection. Otherwise I may go to the MAC and use Final Cut. I need immediately to edit files downloaded from a Sony HandyCam that come off in an mpg format I believe it is (MPEG-2). My understanding is that the Premier Pro supports the importing of mpg files.
    When I attempt to import one of theses mpg files I get the error, "Unsupported file format or damaged file." I know the files are okay because I can play them with Windows Media Player and have been able to edit them with Window Movie Maker. Now I need a more robust editing environment and am looking at Premier Pro to be the solutions.
    Has anyone had experience with importing mpg files? Is there a Codec needed? If so where can I get it and how do I install it?

  • Importing video from sony handycam disc

    I am trying to load a DVD created from a Sony handycam and import the video to iMove HD. Does anyone know how to do this or do I need to connect the camera. I have 7 half hour discs that I am trying to combine for my mother. I thought I could do it with the discs but iMove won't recognize the files. Please help!!!

    Hi jay4,
    welcome to the  board
    1) iMovie is a video edit app meant to work with firewire connected miniDV camcorders
    2) slot-in drives can get damaged by inserting non-standard-size DVDs…
    3) disks have to be finalized first, read your camera's manual…
    4) DVD uses a delivery format, not meant for any further processing as editing…
    5) many options, to import DVDs:
    * DVDxDV (free trial, 25$)
    * Apple mpeg2 plugin (20$) + Streamclip (free)
    * Cinematize >60$
    * Mpeg2Works >25$ + Apple plug-in
    * Toast6/7 allows converting to dv/import dvd, hit apple-k
    helpful?

  • IMovie won't import MPEG movies from Sony Handycam

    My Sony Handycam DCR-SR45 is connected to my Macbook pro via USB. After clicking iMovie's File Import, I can see the "No Name" device as well as the various mpg files that I want to import. The mpg files correctly show the date created, file size, etc. However, the mpg files are grayed-out and I cannot select them to import. Does anyone have a suggestion?

    I have exactly the same issue.  I think that iMovie must have a limitation on the length of the clip you can import.  My 45 minute clip will play with VLC, but won't import inot imovie.

  • Importing a Video from Sony Handycam

    I have Adobe Photoshop Elements 8.0 / Premier Elements 8.0, and when I've been importing videos from my Sony Handycam (HDR-CX7), the Adobe software is downloading the entire video, but it seems to be putting an incorrect duration on the video. For example, the imported video is 5 minutes, but it shows up in Elements at 1.5 minutes.  If I start from the front, it will play the first 1.5 minutes. If I scroll to the end, and rewind back 30 seconds, it will play until the 1.5 minute total again. If I watch the video in Windows Media player, it will play the entire 5 minute video.  Anybody have a solve for this, or an explanation on why its happening?

    I'd suggest asking this in the Premiere Elements forum, which is here:
    http://forums.adobe.com/community/premiere_elements
    There are a lot more video mavens there than here and you'll probably get more responses. Good luck!

    Hard Drive:  The Hard Drive is on my camera (Sony Handycam)
    Just needed some info on what is going on with your particular system.
    Knowing the exact camera model will also assist us.
    If this camera is standard AVCHD you should be able to connect with USB to Mac with FCE open and use Log and Transfer without all the fiddling around converting etc.
    What FCE does during ingest is convert files to AIC. (Apple Intermediate Codec)
    FCE cannot read the individual files in the BDMV folder, that's why all the converting is required when you use that method.
    BTW: regards formatting drives/cards/memory on cameras; it is wise to use the actual device to format rather than a computer. This is a prime cause of read/write goof ups with solid state media. This applies to still or video cameras.
    Keeping the COMPLETE card/memory structure in tact is vital for successful transfers.

  • IMovie 08 Freezes when importing movies from Sony Handycam

    I Have a Sony Handycam DCR-SR65 and when I try to import multiple or all videos into iMovie 08 the computer freezes and I cant quit the application without shutting down my computer by holding down the power button. Why can't I import my movies easily, is there some kind of trick? Most of the time I can import one video at a time, but even then it freezes sometimes.
    Thanks in advance,
    Paul

    I haven't got and haven't used one of these, but a little bell rings at the back of my mind concerning similar cameras which record onto solid state memory: try first taking off all the still photos (..if you've taken any..) and putting them in iPhoto and then deleting them from the camera's hard disc or Memory Stick.
    THEN try importing the video.
    The mix (..if you have both stills and movies..) on the camera may affect importing.
    If the stills go exclusively onto a Memory Stick, and don't get recorded onto the hard disc, nevertheless ..try importing those into iPhoto first, and then wiping the Memory Stick.
    However, that may not be the cause of your trouble, and others may have better answers!

  • Problem Importing with Sony Handycam DCR HC30

    Here's the problem...I can't import my video footage to Imovie HD 06 via firewire. I have a HC30, and a HC32 and neither will import to my computer. They both used to import about a year ago, but won't anymore. My dad's camera (a HC21) will import with no problem, so I know it's not the cable or firewire port on the computer.
    What is going on here? I need help with this before i loose my mind!!!

    hi, did you get this resolved? I'm in what sounds like the same situation, which is desperate now. I am trying to import from a Sony Handycam - DCR-HC37 mini DV cam into my Macbook Pro with iMovie HD 06.
    I plugged it into a friend's new Macbook 2 weeks ago and it worked fine, but then last week when I tried it in his Macbook again it wouldn't work.
    It worked fine on my Macbook Pro with iMovie - about 8 months ago, but now it won't show up in iMovie, no matter how many times I disconnect it - reconnect it, restart camera, restart laptop. I have to show some footage at one of the most respect art institutions in England next week, and if I don't get this footage I've been collecting over the last 2 months off my Handycam I am going to be in deep trouble!!!
    I really hope that someone can make sense of this problem, I've seen lots of people posting similar problems, but I don't know if this has a resolve or not.

  • How do I import mpg files made by an old Sony camcorder into iMovie 11?

    How do I import mpg files made by an old Sony camcorder into iMovie 11?

    I had the same problem. Here is a very easy solution that worked for me.
    1- Open the .mpg video with QuickTime Player
    2-Go to file/export/ and pick the "Ipad,Iphone,Ipod Touch & AppleTV" option
    3-Save your movie with the option "ipod touch &iphone 3GS" picked
    4-Confirm by choosing folder of choice to save it in
    Now this new version of the movie should be able to be read in imovies.
    Hope that helps!
    Good luck.
