SONY HDD Video CAM Software in-compatibility w/MacBook

I've just purchased a SONY hard drive video camera(DCR- SR60). It came with software that is not compatible with my MacBook. The handbook suggestion is to purchase Mac compliant Pixela software: Capty MPEG Edit EX (video editing software) and Capty DVD/VCD 2(DVD authoring software).
I've not seen much good press on Pixela. Anyone got a better idea or a comment on the suggested software.

As Troy mentions, iMovie and iDVD are included with your Mac and much easier and more powerful than they are given credit for. Try them.
There are also support forums for those apps should you need them. iMovie is used to create to movie and that forum is found HERE. iDVD is use to create the menus and put that movie into a DVD format, then burn it to disk and that forum can be found HERE.

  • How do I connect my Sony HD video camera to work as my webcam on a mac-mini

I have just purchased a 2.5GHz 4Mb mini-mac.  I am using a Samsung HD TV and want to use a Sony HD video camera as a webcam.  I have mini-display port, HDMI port and thunderbolt port on the mini-mac.  The video camera has mini HDMI port and I have mini HDMI to HDMI cable.  I also have HDMI to mini-disply connector.  So far I have tried connecting the TV via the HDMI to HDMI cable and the camera via mini HDMI to HDMI/HDMI mini-display convertor to the mini-mac.  The TV is showing the display but the video camera (turned on!) doesn't automatically appear or show in either Finder or as available when I am trying to set up Skype.  Then tried swapping the two around at the mini-mac with the TV now going through the HDMI to mini-display convertor and the camera going to the HDMI port.  Same results as previous set-up.
Can this be made to work? Is there a HDMI to thunderbolt convertor that will work?   Is this plug and play technology or are there more complicated set-up [rocedures?  Any help much appreciated.

I want to put my home video from this camera to iMovie, Can it be done?
I am going nuts, I paid alot of money for this camera and now I can't use it in my new Mac?
I am very new to Mac and this hurts!
PLEASE someone help me, I only see a USB, DO they sell some thing to help get the Video into iMOVIE?
    Thanks......

Search this forum for "compatible, DVD camcorder" and you will find many threads where people lament this truth:
iMovie is for miniDV formatted video connected via Firewire.
Mini DVD camcorders are designed for you to do very light editing on the camera before you finalize the DVD and don't support being imported into a computer. Anyway, many of the experts here know of converters and workarounds, if you want to spend some more money. You could start with these threads:

Somewhere I have read a pretty detailed thread describing what converter you need and how to do it. So just keep searching...

When you have kernel panics, the pertinent information is in the panic report.
These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
    In the Console window, select
DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ System Diagnostic Reports
(not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You'll see a list of reports. A panic report has a name that begins with "Kernel" and ends in ".panic". Select the most recent one. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot.
If you don't see any reports listed, but you know there was a panic, you may have chosen Diagnostic and Usage Messages from the log list. Choose DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION instead.
In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report.
I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway.

  • Trying to get movies off of Sony XR500 video cam

I have a Sony XR500 video cam and i'm trying to download it from the camera to iMovie HD. But when I iMovie keeps defaulting to iSight which leads me to believe that it doesn't recognize the camera. Please help! Thanks.

iMovie HD works only with tape based DV or HDV cameras.
In order to edit AVCHD video, it must be converted. Try VoltaicHD: http://www.shedworx.com/voltaichd

    I have a FireWire cable.
The supplied USB-Cable will not work with iMovie or FinalCut - Sorry.

Please - SET IT TO 16-bit (now) - else severe audio sync problems in iMovie

How do I set my Sony digital video camera recorder DCR-TRV 11 to 16-bit?
Also, I do not have or use Final Cut.
Thank you for the warning about 16 bit. I wish you would tell me why it is important to set to 16 bit, though.

Since they don't allow responses to Firmware Posts in this forum.....here's a new thread.
So what is this Software exe supposed to do?

I ran the install, didn't notice anything install on my PC, and the VadoCentral software exe is still dated 4/2/2008. I should have looked at the version prior to running this mysterious software release.

Can I use the new Apple Thunderbolt  to Firewire adapter to download video from a video camera by firewire to my Macbook Air ?

Yes, you can use the 85 watt adaptor. You cannot use the new adaptors because your computer is not equipped with the proper MagSafe connector. But you can use the older MBP adaptors as well as a 60 watt replacement adaptor. All can be found at Apple's Online Store.

  • Apple compatibility with Sony HDD Video

I'm looking for video editing software to use on my Mac with a Sony HDD camcorder. (I want to transfer the video from the Sony Hard Drive to a DVD.) Can anyone help??

Since this forum is for troubleshooting compatibility issues between Mac OS and Windows, you should probably post your question in the Final Cut Pro/Express or the iMovie forums, as if anyone has used the camcorder you'll most likely find them there.

  • FCP compatibility with Everio & new HD, HDD video cameras

Hey, I have this beautiful list of hard drive/DVD+R hi def video cameras below. I'm set on the JVC Everio series, but i want to know from my fellow FCP users on how well these new AVCHD based cameras work in Final Cut. And is the 1920x1080 HD footage compressed or uncompressed and will I need to format the footage to DVCPROHD to reduce render times? I currently shoot with a Sony A1U, HDV based video camera and I am editing the 1080i based footage in native HDV on a Dual Core MacBook Pro. I have also converted the footage to DVCProHD on several occassions to reduce render times.
    1. Panasonic HDC-SX5
    2. Sony HDR-UX7
    3. Hitachi DZ-BD7H
    4. Canon HR10
    5. Samsung SC-HMX10
    6. Sony HDR-CX7
    7. Panasonic AG-HSC1
    8. Sony HDR-SR5
    9. Canon HG10
    10. JVC GZ-HD3
    11. JVC GZ-HD7
    12. JVC MG255
    13. JVC MG155
    14. JVC MG130

HDV is highly compressed, probably compressed more than any other format any camera shoots. The format is an MPEG stream. (takes a long time to render effects etc with it, however FCP 6 improved it a bit. You can capture native via firewire, then render to ProRes faster... it's a setting found in the sequence's settings.
There is a list of qualified devices for FCP here: http://www.apple.com/finalcutstudio/resources/devicelist.php
Might take a peek there if no one can confirm that your camera of choice works.

  • Sony handycam video camera upload trouble

I recently got a sony handycam, but mac doesn't support the program it comes with to upload videos, does anyone know what I can do so I can upload my videos onto my macbook pro?

You do not need the cams software to transfer your files.  If your cam did not come w/USB connecting cables (read your user manual), then what I suggested previously will work.
