SONY HDR-PJ430V on Premiere - camera shows ''offline''

I am under Mac OS X 10.8.5 (Mountain Lion latest update).
As I had issues with my ''old'' Canon Vixia HV30 (tape-based) under CS6 (no way to capture without crashing...), I slowly switched to Final Cut Pro.
Now with a brand new cam, the SONY HDR-PJ430V, I am trying to get back to Premiere, but my 3 trials faced the same issue: no matter which format I choose to start a new project, either the program does not see the camera (''offline''), or may eventually crashes.
Any of you using that cam ? What are the settings you are using ?
Please note that under Final Cut Pro, the program ''sees'' the cam and can capture, soi I would guess it is not a matter of incompatibility with Mac...
Or is really the only way to go will be to first transfer on the Mac (maybe through Sony's app ?) and import within Premiere ?
I can capture with the SONY app... then import into Premiere.  But I'd rather go direct !...
(This is my first ''non-tape'' cam.... first reason for switching was ''time saving'' in capture...

  • Sony HDR-XR200V in Premiere Elements 8

Last June, my family finally replaced our old Sony DCR-TRV250 with a Sony HDR-XR200V. The only program that actually works with it so far is the Sony Picture Motion Browser that comes with it. I currently use Roxio Easy Media Creator 9 for my video editing (which does not work with the camera), but I am planning on upgrading to Adobe Premiere Elements 8.
I am wondering if anyone has sucessfully used this video camera  with Premiere Elements, particularly version 8?
I am planning on using 1080i video (AVCHD (.m2ts)) with Dolby Digital 5.1 audio (.ac3)

PrE should do fine. You will need to choose the AVCHD Preset to match the camera's footage, with New Project.
Now, PrE allows one to also use the DD 5.1 SS audio, BUT it cannot Export to DD 5.1 SS. Also, when one is capturing/recording 5.1 SS, a camera is highly deficient *. One really needs six mics, into a mixer, run by a trained audio person, and then recorded to a multi-track recorder. With camera audio, what usually happens is that one records signals, that they really do not want. Test it, and use the DD 5.1 SS Audio setting in the AVCHD Preset, but listen carefully. Then, you will probably want to set the camera to regular stereo, or even add a shotgun mono mic, and go with that audio - can be mapped to 2-channel with Fill Left/Fill Right.
Next, to edit AVCHD, you WILL need a stout computer. It is a demanding format/CODEC, and a Quad-core CPU is the minimum recommended. Many feel that a very fast i7 is the minimum. Regardless, the more CPU power, the better.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
    * I feel that the addition of DD 5.1 SS Audio in any camera is really only a marketing ploy. Like I mentioned above, any camera will just be picking up signals that are unwanted. Good 5.1 is part art, part science and part magic. Recording it from one location will not recreate the "sound stage." Also, the lack of DD 5.1 SS Export from PrE is another reason to not use it. Most spend hours trying to eliminate signals that get in the way. Even PrPro requires a US$200 Minnetonka SurCode plug-in to Export DD 5.1 SS. Trust me on this, 5.1 is great, and I use it all of the time, but recording it from the camera is NOT the way to record it. Using six specialized, well-place mics, and separate recording is the only way to go. Also, the on-site mixing is highly important. On-camera will never give you what the brochures indicate. The feeling in marketing is, "hey, both DVD-Video and BD support DD 5.1 SS, so let's use that to sell these cameras." To me, that is a horrible move, but I am not in marketing for Sony, Canon, or the rest.

  • Sony HDR-HC3 no longer works in iMovie 08 under Leopard

    Hello all,
Prior to my upgrade from 10.4 to 10.5, I had been using iMovie to import from my Sony HDR-HC3 mini DV camera without any difficulty - building a library of video from my rehearsals so that I can prepare doctoral audition DVDs.
Now, since upgrading to Leopard, it no longer works. Has something changed? Using the same hardware, connections, and settings, and choosing either 'large' or 'full' to import from 1080i on the camera, and trying automatic or manual, and connected via iLink as usual, it starts the camera properly, but when you play the tape no video shows on the Mac - when using Automatic it will shortly stop, rewind as if it found the end of the tape, and gives an error beep but no messages.
Any advice? Any known issues that I haven't found?
    Cheers,
    Aaron

As indicated, I've tried both manual and auto, and I had always used both before - now neither work.
Are you controlling the camcorder manually also and do you specify a specific output (and if you do, did you follow instructions and pull the FW cable to force the change to take affect)?

  • Re: WVC80N Camera appearing Offline in Monitor software

it could sounds very strange!!! I have bought this Cam and since 3 days ago I have the same problem,, now what is so strange , it is not only it shows i am offline  on my Cam , but my wireless "wi-fi" stops working. All my other wireless devices they can't be connected to my router wirelessly any more.
    Beleave me I am 100% posetive that is the case.. I made the whole 3 days experiance short , but the reason why the camera shows offline and it doesn't work  is because of the malefunction of your wireless router nothing else. I have noted all the possibilities and marked down every condition possible the result is the same. Now any one has any commnent about this test and conclusion?";
Finaly I think the 2 systems wireless router and this device  Cam wierless they cant work together because of Radio interferances!!!

Well can try uninstalling the utility that you have installed from the CD. Download the fresh utility from the Cisco/Linksys website [homesupport.cisco.com] or can even download it from the link: http://homesupport.cisco.com/en-us/support/cameras/WVC80N. After downloading the fresh utility install it as procedure and check whether the issue has been resolve or not.

When you do use Windows Explorer (or Mac Finder, I think... I don't have a Mac... and you did not say) to copy the files from the camera to your hard drive, do as it says in http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1015001?tstart=0 so you don't lose the metadata

  • Sony hdr-as100v action camera

I have a sony hdr-as100v action camera that i want to download pictures and videos from.  Sony manual says to download "PlayMemories" software and use, but it will not load.  My MacBook Air system is OS 10.6.8.
I am not sure if IPhoto will recognize and serve as the application for the camera.
    Any suggestions or experiences?
    SG

Doubtful iPhoto will recognize the camera but there's a workaround. Use the Image Capture app in your Applications folder.
Launch Image Capture then connect the camera to your Mac.
The camera should show up under Devices top left side of the Image Capture window.
Now look at the bottom left side of the window. Click the: Connecting this (device) opens: pop up menu and select an application to import your photos.
Alternatively, you can also select iPhoto to import photos from the Import To: pop up menu.
Selet the photos you want to import then click Import or Import All on the right.
More help is available from the Image Capture menu bar. Click Help > Image Capture Help

  • Does Premiere Elements support video from Sony HDR-XR160 camcorder???

I have premiere elements 12 and I cannot get it to download video files taken with a Sony AVCHD camcorder HDR-XR160.

Answers will be in the details. As a generalization, probably yes.
On what computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 12 running on? Have you updated 12 to the 12.1 Update? If not, please do so using an opened project's Help Menu/Update.
What are the properties of your source media that you are trying to import into your Premiere Elements project?
    AVCHD.mts or AVCHD.mp4, 1920 x 1080 @ 60 progressive frames per second or other?
How are you trying to import files from your Sony HDR-XR160
    a. Add Media/Videos from Flip or Camera/Video Importer - involves USB connection between camera and computer on which Premiere Elements is installed
    or
    b. Add Media/Files and Folders from the hard drive save location to where your files have been transferred from camera to computer.
Try setting the project preset manually first
    NTSC AVCHD 1080p60
and then importing the 1080p60 into the project with that Add Media/Videos from Flip or Camera/Video Importer or Add Media/Files and Folders.
See details of manually setting project preset toward the bottom of the following blog
ATR Premiere Elements Troubleshooting: PE11: Accuracy of Automatic Project Preset (New Project Dialog) Setting
If your program is on a Mac computer, use the AVCHD.mp4 choice instead of the AVCHD.mts choice or convert the AVCHD.mts to
AVCHD.mp4 if your are dealing with videos already recorded.
More details will help us to help you.

  • I run Final Cut Express 4.0.1; I shoot with a Sony HDR-CX260V. How do I import from the camera directly to Final Cut, without having to go through the intermediate step of using iMovie?

    I use Final Cut Express 4.0.1; I shoot with a Sony HDR-CX260V.
How do I import from camera to Final Cut without going through the intermediate step of using iMovie?

If you shoot in one of the following modes you should be able to Log & Transfer directly into FCE:
HD:  1920x1080/60i (FX or FH mode)
HD:  1440x1080/60i (HQ or LP mode)
    SD:  720x480/60i
1080/60p (PS mode) seems to be the default mode in your camcorder.  FCE only supports progressive video in 720p50 or 720p60.   That's probably why you have had to import via iMovie.
It would be better to upgrade to Final Cut Pro X, the version currently supported.  FCE was discontinued over 18 months ago and is not supported on Lion or Mountain Lion.

My computer is no longer allowing me to import video from my Sony HDR camera.  I don't know if it is the operating system or the version of imovie or what.  I also have imovie 06 and I was always able to import into it and can no longer do that either.
