Sony Home Theater STR-DH800

I have a Sony HD TV and a Sony STR-DH800 home theater AV receiver.  I have a Charter Cable box.  I am running an HDMI cable from cable box straight to TV.  I am also running a Digital Audio cable from cable box to AV receiver.  I am getting sound on regular channels through receiver out of speakers but not on all HD channels.  You can hear the background noise but not people speaking.  Any suggestions.....I think it is a setting in the sony receiver.  Have changed cable boxes with same results.
Thanks

Try cable box to the receiver and then from the receiver to the tv, both with hdmi.

  • After firmware update ipod touch not working with my Sony Home Theater DAV HDX287WC any suggestions

Is there a solution to play music from my iPod touch on my Sony Home Theater System DAV HDX 287WC after recent firmware/software upgrade? However, I am still able to play music through my ipod classic, but I am really missing the the functionality of the iPod touch with my home theater system.

    - Check to see if there is a firmware update for the theater system
Sometimes this works but sometimes an IOS update breaks compatibility.
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync all music and resync
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

    Hi Jerrypan112,
You may try adding Digital Optical connection from the TV to the Home Theater System if they supports Digital Optical connection.

  • Apple TV Optical Soundoutput not working with Sony Home Theater System

I just bought a new apple tv. The setup was pretty simple, with the exception that I cannot get the optical audio output to work with my Sony home theater.
If I switch tha optical sound cable from the apple tv to the cable tv converter box I get sound fine in the sound system, so I know the sound system works fine and is setup to take input thru the optical cable.
Any one experiencing the same problem?

    hey buddy,
How old is your Sony receiver? You have to be careful here because receivers that were made about 2 years ago, a lot of the lower range one only does HDMI pass-through. This means that your receiver only passes both the video and audio signal onto the end points, i.e takes the signal from your apple TV and outputs them onto your TV. It does not split the video and audio stream and send the audio to your home theater speakers. So make sure you plug your hdmi and optical out into the same set of input ports. On most Sony receivers, this device is under the Blue Ray class of input, where it takes video from the hdmi and the audio from the optical. If you have them on two separate class, say, HDMI to the DVD in, and optical in to the blue ray, then certainly when you set your receiver to DVD, you get video and audio on your TV speakers. And when you set your receiver to blue ray, you only get audio but not video.

  • Sony Home Theater System DAV-HDX275

I just bought a home theater system and I am wonder how to connect it to get the best sound out of it while watching blue ray movies or just plain old TV?  There is a HDMI outputy on the back and a digital inout on the back.  Whic one should I use and get th best results
    Thanks!!!

The DAV-BC50 appears to have only stereo analog input ( pair of L/R RCA jacks). You need a cable with a stereo miniplug on one end and 2 RCA jacks on the other. The soundcard should be set to 2-speaker mode. The DAV-BC50 does not have any way accept discrete multichannel from the soundcard nor to accept encoded AC3/DTS from the soundcard. You can use Dolby Prologic II to get all your speakers going, but you should not use processing when playing DirectSound3D games because it will dilute the intended 3D soundfield produced from 2 speakers.

  • Link iPhone to Sony DAV-DX155 Home Theater System

Does anyone know how I can link my iPhone to play music through my Sony home theater system which is model DAV-DX155? I believe it would have to be a particular cable but I dont know which cable that would be. Please help. Thanks!

One thing that might help out.
A cable from the headphone jack to your system might be the way to go.

  • Connecting my Sony Home Theatre System to my many devices???

I have a Sony HT-DDW990 (Home Theatre Receiver with Subwoofer and 5 speakers) and I need to connect it to all the following devices:
LCD TV - Model: Sony Bravia KDL46V2500
DVD Player - Model: Sony DVP-NS78H
Digital Cable Receiver - Model: Scientific Atlanta Explorer 4250HD (Videotron)
    Playstation 3
    Nintendo Wii
I need to know first if it is even possible to hook up all these devices together.
Is there a website I can go to that can let me choose the devices I want to hook up to one another? I need step-by-step instructions and also the cables I will need (ex. HDMI cables, Audio/Optical cables etc.).
    Thanks

That TV only had 2 HDMI inputs and the receiver only has 2 HDMI inputs, and it will not upconvert the wii to HDMI. So heres what we will do and need:
You need 4 HDMI cables, one optical cable, and get rid of the Wii video cable and replace it with a Wii component video cable.
Plug one cable from the hdmi out of the receiver to HDMI one of the TV. For HDMI 2 of the tv, plug in the PS3. Plug the Wii into component video 1, there is an optical out on the TV, the optical cable will go to one of the receivers optical inputs.
Plug the dvd and cable box to the receiver using HDMI. The inputs are most likely labeled Cable TV? and DVD.
When watching Cable and the Sony dvd the tv will need to be on HDMI 1, then select between DVD and the cable box on the inputs of the receiver. Video will go to the TV, audio will come out of the speakers.
for wii and the PS3 you will select that on the TV, HDMI 2 for PS3 and COmponent 1 for Wii. To get the audio, turn the receiver input to whichever optical input the cable got plugged in to. This will be the input for the audio when you are using these two devices.
If no sound comes out, then you will need to enter the tv's menu and disable the TV speakers, and sound will then rerout to the receiver.
If you have any more hookup questions, ask. It isn't easy for you due to your limited inputs on the TV and the receiver. I will check back to see how you do.
If you want to make life easier, Keep your speakers and get a new receiver and life will be so easy. Everything can pass through the receiver. Call around for a Sony receiver Model: STR-DH800 | SKU: 9246602, maybe find an open box deal. Everything can pass through that unit, and one HDMI to the TV.
    Good luck.

  • Playing iPod Mini through Home Theater system

    Hi all,
I have a Sony Home Theater system. It plays CDs, DVDs, AM/FM, and video from the TV. I bought a Monster cable to hook up my iPod Mini to the player (it has 2 jacks, a red and a blue one that goes to the player), hooked it up per the instructions (put the same color plug in the same color jack on the player), but no sound comes out. The menu options on the player are DVD, Video (which comes from the TV), FM and AM. I don't know how to program the player to make it play from the iPod, and as you can probably tell, I'm a girl and extremely technically challenged. I don't even know where to begin. Can someone offer some guidance, please? Thanks in advance!

There should be an auxiliary input on the Sony.
You need to select this input on the Sony.

  • Xi-Fi Gamer & Home Theater Recei

    Howdy -
I just purchased a Sony home theater receiver and surround sound system (HT-DDW900) and I'm wondering how to connect my Sound Blaster Xi-Fi Gamer to the receiver.
    Appreciate any help. Thank you.

I game more than watch movies or listen to music on my pc & yes ..it was interesting to read in the sticky... thanks for the reminder. I don't have 5. or higher spkr setup, i use a?centre + frnt right + frnt left on hi-fi system and creative 2. THX speaker system?& then i just tweak the sound from both sources, on my amp it has cinema studio EX & i find using that i get a good mixture of mid & high sounds, plus the mission 703's give good punchy?bass,?the thunder/bass comes from the creative 2. sub as well as some high?crisp sounds from the 2. THX front right & left ...so what's that? ..pseudo surround ..lol. What i find odd is why do pc?game publishers put Dolby Digital on the pc games?box when realy then it should be EAX support ..as notied in the sticky below. But tbh the very best sound for me personaly has to be headphones ..but you need a good set of cans though. PC GamesPC games usually use technologies?like as EAX to create surround sound, not Dolby Digital. So even if your speaker system has a Dolby Digital decoder, it will be of no use when playing?games.
The EAX processing is done on the soundcard, and?the 6-channel sound is?output via the analogue (or digital DIN if available). So you still need analogue connections to your digital speakers for games, if you just use an optical/coax cable you will only get the front left/right sound. (N.B. X-Box games do support Dolby Digital, so if you connect your X-Box to your Dolby Digital receiver/speakers with the optical cable, you can get full surround sound.)?

  • Converting Wired Home Theater System to Wireless

I have a Sony home theater system with standard components: center channel, subwoofer, front right, front left, rear left, and rear right speakers.
I would like to convert my rear speakers to wireless.
I have looked at the RocketFish converter kit; but it seems that I would still have wires emitting from rear receiver box.
Do  you have any suggetions?  Are their other brand options that will not be too expensive.
NOTE: I do not want to replace my current surround system.  I have a baby on the way, and need to be thrifty with my $s.
    Thanks,

Wireless is not true wireless, as you have found out. Also wireless will compromise the overall quality of the sound. There will be interference and static sometimes. Maybe when an appliance turns on or a car with bad plug wires drives by.

  • Sony Blue Ray Home Theater

    Hi ,
I am having SONY Blue Ray Home Theater System. I have hooked up the spekers to TV  (Sony Bravia HD) as well. When ever I put Blue Ray or normal DVD or CD, properly sound is not coming to all speakers. I mean, no human dialogues coming into all speakers. But Speakers are working perfectly with TV. I am having problem only with  Blue Ray, DVD & CDs.
Is there anyway I can rectufy this?
    Please help me.
    Thanks,
    Girish

Try pressing the Sound Mode button on your remote the next time your playing a Blu-ray, DVD, or CD. You can press this button repeatedly until the sound is distributed correctly through your speakers. You may have to do this again to change the sound mode when you switch between watching/listening to TV, Blu-ray, DVD, or CD.
If the above doesn't work out, you could also try pressing the Audio button repeatedly until sound is distributed correctly for what you're watching or listening to.
Hope this helps and good luck!

What do you guys think of them? Is there another set/brand that you would recommend over it?
I'm trying to get one for my dad for Christmas. I'd prefer to get one that is not over 500 dollars.

That last one you linked is not a All in one like the others as its just a Home Theater in a Box and does not have a integrated blu-ray player like the others. Which actually makes that one my first pick as non integrated solutions provide for a little room for future expansion. however if you want the integrated solution I would go with the 780W as it provides 2 HDMI inputs and a Component Input vs just the 2 HDMI inputs of the 280 model.

Now both the store and online are out of stock on the Home Theater System so I cannot place the order for the package deal.
