Sony laptop cannot access our wifi network...

Have just installed new airport extreme 5th gen, hardwired to macbook pro and imac.  The only device that cannot access our network is our Sony laptop - shows a red x - that it is a "hidden" network.  Have not used the closed network setting in airport utility - any advice?

sorry for the trouble, but solved the problem; obviously not very computer savvy, but found that the Sony's networking settings were for our old router (WEP) - reset to WPA2 and works fine.

I cannot access my wifi network since updating to OS7. Need wifi to make any changes - even to update for bug fix - help!!

Try power cycling your router. Un plug it, count to 20, plug it back in and let it reboot.
You can also try going into your iPad and 'reset all network settings'.

  • HP Officejet 6700 Premium cannot connect to wifi network

Since a few days, our HP Officejet 6700 Premium can no longer connect to wifi network. All our other devices as laptops, smartphones, tablets have no difficulty in connecting to the wifi. reconnecting and entering the WPA password doesn't help.
The printer says the SSID of our wifi network is not unique, it detects multiple access points.
What can I do to solve this issue.
    Tx

    Hello there @karatejan
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I read about the issues you're facing when trying to connect your Officejet 6700 printer to your network recently. I have three suggestions for you, and please let me know the results when you are done.
Try power cycling the network devices:
Turn off the printer and computer and unplug the router for 1 minute (do not press any buttons on the router).
Plug the router back in and wait another minute, next turn on the printer and computer, and run the set up again.
If you are running a Windows OS, from your PC, perform a Clean Boot, which will turn off the start up programs just in case there is something blocking the installation. Try the USB to wireless set up again.
Check your router settings to match these recommended settings:
    1. Network name and password to have no spaces or punctuation.
    2. If using WPA2 security, switch to WPA personal.
    3. Dual broadcast Wireless b/g/n (printer may only connect to g).
    4. Mac filter needs to be turned off.
    5. Firewall settings need to be at there default settings, or set to a lower security.
    6. Multicasting "on".
    7. Following ports need to be un-blocked:
    Incoming (UDP) ports : 137, 138, 161, 427
    Outgoing (TCP) ports : 137, 139, 427, 9100, 9220, 9500

  • My wife's i-pad 3 was just downloaded with iOS6 and we're unable to join our wifi network at home.  Can anyone help?

My wife's i-pad 3 was just downloaded with the latest iOS6 and she's now unable to join our wifi network at home.  Can anyone help?

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

  • IPhone 3GS cannot access to 3G network after upgrading to OS 5

My iPhone 3GS cannot access the 3G network after upgrading to OS5. I have checked with my operator and shows that their 3G network is working fine. Only cannot access through the phone. When I enable 3G, there will be no service for my phone. Wifi is working fine.
Any idea how to resolve this?

Thanks, I will try this method. After restore and syn, will it automatically upgrade back to OS5?
No. If you have 5.0.1, then you will get 5.0.1 back. Restoring should still fix it though. I would prefer to have you back up to iCloud, because there are many known issues/errors when trying to restore via iTunes on iOS 5 or later.

I can only tell you that I had a couple of apps that worked perfect before but when ios 5.0.1, apple closed whatever way the apps used to print....Print Central was one....the developer. at least this one, said they could not do anything about it...they only recommended printing to PDF...
But I have a dedicated file server ( steream music and movies ) and I installed FINGERPRINT on my server and now I can print from my ipad, iphone to any printer on my server

  • What to do if you can't access a wifi network and showing you message that your airport has a self-assigned IP and cannot be connected to the internet?

    Hi,
i am currently using 10.6.8 snow leopard
i usually access internet through my broadband modem and wifi at home.
i've been using our home wifi network for almost 1 week now (since it's new) and almost everyone at home use it as well.
and im using my broadband everytime i go out.
this last week, i went to a vacation and i use the wifi connection of the hotel where i stay in.
my connection works fine and so i don't use my broadband anymore.
    then i got home..
when i got home..  i tried to connect to our home wifi network again .
like what im doing before, im clicking the airport icon on the top of my desktop,
and since my airport is always on, the next step that im doing is to click the preferred network that i want to join and put the password on it.
this is perfectly working in my macbook before i left.
but now , it's not working to my laptop anymore! i can't connect to it!
after putting the password and hitting the enter, the airport icon at the top will run, however after seconds it showing gray color with exclamation point on it!
the alert is showing : No internet connection
but the network i joined is still checked and showing full signal !
i tried checking my Network under system preferrence and the airport tab in the left corner is showing me a message that
my airport has the self-assigned IP address 169.***.****.** and will not be able to connect to internet!
i don't know what happen and i dont understand why is this happening since everyone at home can still use and access our home wifi !!
it's the same network that i'm trying to connect to anyway!
i tried using my broadband instead to connect online and it works fine!
but everytime i try to connect using wifi at home , again i cant connect!
anyone can tell me what's going on?
i haven't try joining other network anyway! but i'm planning to do so..
can some one help me please??
    showing me a message that
my airport has the self-assigned IP address 169.***.****.** and will not be able to connect to internet!

and now, when i tried to check again my network preference below the airport tab is showing a message that
"my airport does not have an IP address and cannot connect to the internet!"
then after seconds it will goes back to the first message that
"airport has the self assigned IP address etc....."
i don't know whats going on now!
airport tab is not showing green color anyway! i'ts always in yellow!
i tried turning it on and off but nothing happen! HEEELLLLPP!!!!

  • New FIOS router, VIsta Laptop Cannot Access Internet

I too have the new FIOS router with 75/35 speed.  I have just been trying to install the router and have been successful in getting wifi connected on two devices (Win 7 laptop and Kindle), but I cannot get my Vista laptop to access the internet.  It shows the wifi being connected but no internet connection.
Does this have something to do with the Vista OS?
Thank you in advance for your help.

Anyone at Verizon who is paying attention would realize this problems is many years old with no solution.  People are literally begging for help in dozens of online forums, to no avail (Google search usually provides me results faster than any tech support).  I have the exact same issue.  All my wireless devices connect to the internet through the Verizon MI424WR router with no problem.  My Vista laptop connects just fine via Ethernet cable, but not the wireless.  I can make a wireless connection to the router, and the router admin page shows it is, in fact, connected, but absolutely NO connection to internet is possible.
BTW, the laptop had no problem for years connecting to the internet via a Linksys WRT54G connected to Verizon DSL.
All that the troubleshooting "guide" provides is the usual basic "plug in, turn off, turn on, reset" nonsense that might help only those who can't stop their VCR clock from blinking.
So please, Verizon, bump this up to a FAQ (because it is VERY frequently asked), and help us find a solution.

  • HT4623 I updated my 4S and now I cannot access my wifi due to a glitch in your software.  I have reset, and restored my phone numerous times and my wifi button is still greyed out.   Your phone tech blamed my phone and said it would cost $199 to replace.

I cannot turn my wifi on.  The button is greyed out.  This problem started after I update my software.  First tech I spoke to said it was my problem because I chose to update the software and since I was out of warrenty, I would have to pay $19.99 for service agreement before anyone would talk to me.  The next tech admitted this had happened to ssomeone else and stated it was a problem with my phone triggered by the software update, and because I was 57 days out of warrently, it would cost me $199 for replacement phone.   So basically, anyone that chooses to upgrade their software, risk messing up their access to wifi and have to pay the developer of the software to fix the problem, their program caused.  Does anyone have a clue how to fix this.  Why wasn't I informed of the risks that could occur if I updated my device.

FYI, this is a user to user technical support forum.
No one from Apple monitors, reads, or responds here.
    Try the following:
Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network settings
If the Wi-Fi is still not working, basic troubleshooting from the Users Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new).  Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.
The vast majority of users upgrade with absolutely no issues.

  • How do I get a Windows PC to access the wifi network?

I have a Time Capsule, I curently have a Mac Mini, a Dell Dektop, a MacBook Pro, and an iPod connected to the wifi network. I am now attempting to connect a brand new Windows 7 Toshiba Satellite and a Lenovo thinkpad. The new laptops recognize the wifi network but will not transfer any data, therefore they cannot acccess websites....
What could possibly be the issue...?

Ok, this validates that the PC is at least negotiating with the Time Capsule and can find the TC's DHCP server to get the proper IP addresses.
Let's go to the last phase of the troubleshooting to find out where the communication break is between the PC and the Internet site.
This time we are going to rely on the trusty Ping tool:
Since you verified that the PC is getting the proper IP address information from the TC, we can skip the first three levels of Ping tests: loopback, local computer, and LAN-side of the TC.
The next in line for the Ping test would be the Default Gateway. This would be your ISP's Gateway router. To know what to Ping you may need to go to one of your other devices that can successfully negotiate its way to the Internet. You can get the Default Gateway info from the AirPort Utilty. AirPort Utility > Select the TC > Manual Setup > Internet > TCP/IP tab The Default Gateway = Router Address
Ok, now go back to the PC, open a Command window, and enter the following at the command prompt: ping <IP address of the Default Gateway> If the ping fails, there is either an issue with the TC or the ISP's Gateway router. If the ping passes, go on to the next step.
Ping the IP address of the remote host. That is, instead of using the URL (like www.google.com) use the actual IP address of the website. If you don't know the site's IP address, go back to your Mac, and then, use the Network Utility's Lookup option. Enter the URL of the site, and then, click on Lookup. You should find the site's IP address in the information returned in the panel's results window. If the ping fails, the remote host may not be responding. Try another host just to be sure.
Finally, ping the URL of the remote host. This time instead of the IP address go ahead and use the site's URL. As an example, enter the following at the command prompt: ping www.apple.com If the ping is successful, you're done and the computer can successfully negotiate all the way to the remote host. However, if the ping fails, then the issue is either there are no DNS servers configured or none could be found to translate the URL to the appropriate IP address to "find" the website.

  • Cannot access webserver across network

    Hi all,
a little background then on to the problem
small group running 4 work stations and one server. Server used to run apache 2 under OS X 4.7 but we have upgraded to OS X Server tiger 10.4.8
Prior to upgrading the webserver, we could mount the webserver machine on our desktops (apple+K then browse or enter the server's LAN IP) to add files, make changes to static pages etc to the web root directory...nice and easy
But since upgrading to OS X Server, we cannot mount or even see the server machine on the network. We can mount our workstations from the server via apple+k but that is a bit pointless unless we each keep a drive mounted on the server and drop changes into the mounted drives then walk over to the server to move the files around on the actual server machine (which negates the benefits of having a network!
So my question is....can anyone tell me how can we mount our server machine on to individual workstations we can make changes to web pages and directories.
I know some may say FTP but I really dont want to go that way as access via the network (apple+k) was a much quicker and easier method.
    thanks,
    Tristan

Have you verified that the file sharing service on the server is actually running?
From your description it sounds like the server isn't running, and therefore you're not going to get to mount its volumes.
I haven't heard of problems with services getting turned off as part of an OS upgrade, but anything's possible.
From your description I'm guessing you're using AFP, so check Server Admin to ensure that AFP is running. You might also need to check Workgroup Manager to ensure that the correct set of directories are being shared.

  • My mac pro laptop cannot access the internet which is cable thru airport extreme any suggestions

My Mac pro cannot access the internet cable but is connected to wi fi thru airport extreme. my apple desktop works fine on the system and sits next to my laptop. any suggestions

"I have an ethernet cable in port 1 on my computer. That is configured manually to access ther office network."
Do you have a "real" IP address or a private (192.168.x.x, 10.x.x.x, 172.x.x.x) IP address?
"The wireless router was connected to the company server only for the purpose of getting me online through Airport because I couldn't access it using an ethernet connection"
Could not access it because their network security blocked you by intent, or had some unknown technical difficulty?
Unless you are blocked by intent or ommission (if they have to explicitly allow your machine) I can think of no technical reason why your wired connection should not both get you on their network and on the internet in general. You should not need to be dual homed (though dual homing should work as well).
Please answer the questions above when you can - I think solving the wired LAN issue will be easier if you are not being intentionally blocked.
