Sony Media Remote App

Hi
I have a Sony BDP s380 blu-ray player, wired (via devolo dLAN 200 AVmini powerline adaptors) to a v2 hub.
I downloaded the Sony media remote app to my iphone 4.  This should allow me to control the blu-ray player from the app, but the app/iphone will not "see" the blu-ray player, so it does not work.  From checking the home homepage, I can see that the iphone and blu-ray player are both connected to the network.
From some googling, there is a suggestion that it is a UPnP issue, so I was wondering whether setting up port forwarding would help (although I'm not sure this is right, given that it is not about access from outside the network).
Can someone tell me what I can do to get the devices talking to each other?
I have checked that the blu-ray player is compatible with the app - and am driving myself mad trying to get this thing to work, so and suggestions gratefully received.
Thanks

Thanks Viv
No joy (yet).  Sony told me I needed to download "third party software" without being any more specific of helpful, then said I needed to speak to Apple.  Apple (of course) said it was to do with Sony, but that I might want to check with BT.  BT were helpful but couldn't ultimately do anything more than send me back to Sony.  A much more helpful Sony person at least appeared to understand the issue and said they'd escalate it and get back in a couple of days, but I've heard nothing back from them.
I did find this site:
http://www.roomieremote.com/ip-compatibility/
which at least seems suggest a port that is used but I don't know if that is the only one, and I haven't been able to make it work by forwarding that port.  If you have any more luck, I'd be keen to know.
It's hardly the biggest deal that it doesn't work (the player itself, and streaming of iplayer etc is great) but it is slightly driving me mad that there must surely be an answer out there...

• Sony BD Remote app

I just bought a BDP-s370 and I updated the firmware to the newest version. I installed the media remote app in my iphone 4, and when I go into the settings on the sony and click to register a device it searches, and then i click add registration on my iphone and it searches for a second and then says no device found.
They are on the same network (the sony is wired), and the player has internet access, I can watch netflix, and use pandora, so i know it's connected. I have the latest airport extreme.
Any help?

i have this problem also, only i am doing it in a ipod touch 4 and i bought my blue ray player BDP-S370

• Looking for a remote app

I am looking for a remote app for my windows computer at work so I can control my music. I have Remote from my mac to use with iTunes at home and thats great. But now I was wondering do they have anything like that for windows I use windows media player. Thanks so much

Correction from my last message-
Are you looking for a way to control the music from your PC to Mac as in remote desktop, or are you looking for a way to access (play, delete, share) your music?
If its the first choice, see my last post.
If its the second choice, you can turn on Home Sharing in iTunes.
Go to Advanced>Turn on Home Sharing
You'll have to login with an Apple ID, and do the same thing on your other computers.
For more information on Home Sharing, visit this link:

• Remote app: control command not available

Hi all,
I am using Remote app 2.3 on a iPhone 4G and an iPad 1 together with Apple TV 1st gen (software version 3.0.2).
On the ipad I can see the control cross as an icon to control Apple TV with finger moves.
Unfortunately on my iPhone, remote only shows the following standard icons in the menu bar: Genius, Lists, Artists, Search and more.
I can't find any control field.
Does anyone has an idea why the app is missing the control command in the iPhone's version?
Kind regards
Günter

Hi vazandrew,
thank you for your tipps.
I selected Apple TV in the two squares (I have two entries my media library of macbook and my Apple TV).
In a youtube tutorial I saw that if you control your macbooks media library, no gesture interface is visible. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eUzy8jcjvPs&feature=related (min 4:30) If you select your Apple TV, the interface is shown.
I can imagine that remote app does not recognize Apple TV as a device that can be controled with the gesture interface. What do you think?
So I tried next the complete homesharing activation on every device.
Infortunately - even if selected the homesharing option in my macbook and the remote control, the menu for Apple TV stays without the icon of gesture interface.
So I disconnected my library from Apple TV (which copies the contents of my macbook on the harddisk of Apple TV) and I hoped that only streaming of the media library to the Apple TV could help. But no fortune (even the connection via my wlan router broke very often down, when the macbook streamed to Apple TV).
It is now still copying the contents again on it - approx. 120 GB - so I will have to wait to try out other things.
As I said, my iPad 1 works properly with the gesture interface.
Kind of strange thing... :-)
Kind regards,
Günter

• IPhone Remote app hangs on Verifying Remote Password

When connecting to iTunes 7.7 Mac or PC from an iPhone 3G using the Remote app iTunes wont accept the passcode that the iPhone displays. It just hangs after entering the 4 digits, times out and request them again.
What I've found is that this seems to only happen if you access iTunes via an Apple Extreme - if I go via a non Apple WiFi access point it works fine every time. Web access etc from the iPhone via the Extreme seems fine. Both PC's are connected to the network via wired connections , one via the inbuilt (non GB) switch on the Extreme. . If I enable the inbuilt WiFi on the Mac it seems to work OK too via the adhoc. However switching back to wired it fails again , unless it's via the non Apple access point. I don't believe this is a firewall issue.

I too have spent a lot of time trying to get this working and so far I've had success. I'm running iTunes 8.0.2.22 on 64-bit Windows 7 Beta Build 7000. Some of what I did was taken from another reply to this thread and I'm not sure exactly what did it, but I had tried everything I could think of. Here are the steps I took:
* Reset router
* Ensuring media sharing was on in Control Panel/Network and Sharing Center
* Removing the remote app from the iphone and then reinstalling from the app store DIRECTLY on iPhone
* Added Inbound AND Outbound firewall rules (Windows Firewall\Advanced Settings) for TCP AND UDP ports 3689 and 5353
* Added Inbound AND Outbound firewall rules for Bonjour AND iTunes applications
* Reboot computer
* Launch remote app on iPhone and bring it to the 4 digit code screen
* Launch iTunes
So far so good. The configuration has been working since I completed all of those steps even once the iPhone has been powered off and back on. Some of those steps might not be needed but I was at a complete loss as to why iPhone Remote wouldn't work so I went overkill with the troubleshooting.

• Remote App 3.0 Movie Playlist

Recently upgraded to Remote App 3.0, along with an ATV upgrade. Glad to see the WiFi issues have been cleared up. new problem however is that Movie Playlists will not start the movie.
Scenario is:
Load Remote App 3.0
Connect to "Office" Apple TV
Select "Media Server" from Home Share
I do no select any specific category, and I am presented with all my Playlists
Select Movie from any playlist (Smart or no) the movie will not start
Anyone else running in to this problem.
If I look under specificly the "Movies" section in the Home Share, the only options I have are Unwatched, All Movies and Generes.
When using the navigation controls and having the AppleTV it self view the play lists (after enabling the option to see Playlists in all areas) I am able to use the Smart Playlists I have been able to use. This would isolate the issue to Remote App 3.0
The question is, why won't the latest Remote App start a movie from a playlist?

Issue confirmed.
Resolved with remote update 3.0.1

• Home sharing for iPhone 4; Remote App

Am using Windows XP desktop which is connected to router with Ethernet and my iPhone 4 uses the Wi-Fi.
Got latest version of iTunes.
Latest version of Remote.app
iPhone OS 4.3.3, not 4.3.5
I followed this guide to implement the inbound settings since it isn't available on Windows XP the way it is available on Windows 7:-
no-ip . com/support/guides/routers/configuring_windows_xp_firewall.html
The port number i entered for TCP is 3689 and named it as bounjourport(the name shouldn't matter).
mDNSResponder.exe is also running.
And am still unable to locate my iPhone in iTunes for 'Remote App'. Actually there isn't any "Devices" list present on iTunes, though it appears when i connect the phone with USB. Also tried port forwarding on router, still no change.
Please help!!
**My previous phone was Sony Ericsson w995 which supported DLNA and i could access my phone files through the same PC with Ethernet connection to the router, so i guess this should be possible for iPhone too.
Thanks in advance.

Anyone help me please?

• Cannot add iPhone 3.0 remote app (1.3)

I have two Apple Tv and can't get either one to connect to my iPhone's remote app version 1.3.
I can input the code but nothing happens when I click on done. Both are running version 2.4 and the iPhone is OS 3.0 with remote version 1.3.
I can connect and control my iTunes' library via my iPhone with no problem.
I've shutdown my Mac Pro and one of the ATVs then tried adding the remote to one at a time and still will not work. I've rebooted the iPhone, and both ATVs. Everything works with the exception of adding the iPhone a remote.
I don't believe this is a network issue since everything else works fine.

yes you CAN add the iTunes library but you don't want to... as you can see it doesn't work.
you add the appleTV library to remote control the appleTV..
you add the iTunes Library to remote control iTunes on your computer (i.e. if you were doing airTunes to say an airport express or appleTV and you wanted to choose media to play next, previous etc without having to be in front of your computer.. it lets you do it from the iPod Touch/iPhone.
you want to add the appleTV Library to control the appleTV. trust me.. i've been using the remote app for months now.. that's how it works. you can see and play anything that's available to play on the appleTV synced or streamed.. it's not just the stuff that's physically on there.

• How to - correct episode order within the Remote App

Recently I found that when i was using the Remote App to control my iTunes Library, all my TV Show episodes where in alphabetical order instead of episode number order.
after searching on how to solve this and speaking with Apple Support (who couldn't figure out why this was happening) i couldn't find the answer and noticed that many people were having this same issue and were in the same boat as me.
i managed to solve the issue and wanted to share. sorry if i have posted this in the wrong area, first time giving advise on here.
ill run through this using The Walking Dead - Season 1 as an example, but this can obviously be done with any TV Show.
Even with the correct episode numbers, iTunes displays the episode in the correct order -
but in alphabetical order within your library on the remote app -
in iTunes - highlight all episodes and get info
         2. under the Options Tab, change the Media Kind to Music Video and click OK at the bottom
         3. Then head over to where you Music Videos are stored
         4. select each of the episodes, get info
         5. under the Details Tab, you will now have more options to select
         6. scroll to the bottom of the Details Tab, and within the Album Artist section, type in "The Walking Dead"
         7. in the Disc Number section, you want to add which season of how many seasons there are. example - I have 4 seasons of The Walking Dead within my library, and as this is season 1, i will enter 1 of 4
         8. next, in the Track section, you want to add which episode of how may episodes in that season. example - this is episode 1 of 6 in the season
         9. next go into the Options Tab, and change the Media Kind back to TV Show
         10. click OK at the bottom
         11. once you have done this for each episode, head back into your TV Shows
         12. when you now get info for each of the episodes, the Album Artist, Disc Number and Track sections should be at the bottom of the Details Tab (if they were not there before)
         13. if this has been done correctly - all episodes should be correctly listed within the remote app by episode order
Hopefully this has helped somebody out there!

Gotcha - came up with a workaround... since the photos were living in the Photo Library packaged itself, and not simply in another regular folder, I right clicked on the library and said show packaged content, then search for what folders the files lived in, then copied the files out of the packaged library into a folder. Then I was able to give the Photos Library access to the new folder with the files.
With all my files now references, I enabled iCloud Photo Library and am uploading now.
Hopefully my new local Photo Library will be smart enough to optimize local images and shrink to give me more space.
Thanks.

• Home sharing with iOS remote app stopped working

In my home, I have four macs (3 minis and an imac), each with their own iTunes media library, and 2 ATVs.  Home Sharing is turned on, with the same ID on all of these devices.  When I operate each device natively (using keyboard/mouse or ATV hard remote), I can see the music library on each of the other devices, and play that music.  I also have an iPhone and an iPad, with the Remote app installed, and using the same Home Sharing ID.  On each of these, I can see each of the macs and ATVs, and the music in their individual libraries, and can play that music on the device on which that library resides.  So far, so good.
What I can't do, although I could do it several weeks ago, is use the remote app to access one device, and then play music from the shared library on another device.  I can see the other devices' libraries, but when I select "music" within that device, it says "no songs".  This is very curious, and like I said, it worked a few weeks ago.
Has anyone seen this issue, and do you know how to fix it?
Thanks.

But this is where the problem starts. While I am using the remote app, I exit the app to do something else on the phone. I go back into the app, and the app attempts to connect to my iTunes library. It fails!!
I'm having this exact same problem. I was using the remote app with iTunes on my computer and speakers connected to my airport express for months with no issues at all. It worked flawlessly. But I got the new apple tv a few days ago and had to turn on home sharing as part of the setup...and then the problems began. I started having the exact issue described by the original post: the remote app will just randomly not be able to see my iTunes library. Sometimes it works fine, sometimes it just sits there spinning for a while and eventually says it couldn't find my library. If I wait a few minutes it will eventually just start working again.
This is extremely annoying and is making me want to just return the apple tv and go back to my previous setup which worked perfectly. If Apple would at least acknowledge the problem and that a fix will be forthcoming, I would be satisfied.

• Apple TV 2 - Remote app for iPad

I've got an Apple TV 2 and an iPad running iOS 4.2.1. Apple TV is wired to my router via ethernet, iPad is connected to the same router via Wifi. Home Sharing is turned on all around.
What I really want is the ability to view and control all of my media on my Apple TV via the Remote app WITHOUT having to turn on my TV. Right now I can't do that. What am I doing wrong???
I've installed (and reinstalled) the Remote app. When I run it, I can see both the Apple TV and my iTunes library on my iMac. When I open the Apple TV on the iPad, I only get a generic page that says "Access iTunes libraries on Apple TV" - BUT I can't see any media. I can open the "gestures" menu and can use the drag to navigate option to control the Apple TV.
I can also access my iTunes library on my iMac to control the music there. But that doesn't do my any good with the Apple TV.
What am I doing wrong??? I've looked through the forms here but can't find the answer.

You certainly can use Remote to control the ATV without turning the tv on as that is exactly what I do when I just want to listen to music, streamed from iTunes vis the ATV to my receiver. I simply open up Remote which connects to the Apple TV, showing my shared library on the left. From here I can chose any music to play and it plays via the ATV. I don't need to use AirPlay.

• Remote app and apple tv

Is it possible to put the apple tv to sleep with the remote app? With the small apple remote
you press and hold the play/pause button. But I can't seem to find out if remote app will do it.
And also, how do you get to the main menu in apple tv with the remote app. Like youtube, etc.

It seems you have the option to connect the way Scott H described (ie accessing your media library in iTunes) -OR- you can have the iPhone directly access the AppleTV's library. I've done it both ways on mine. The first way means you're streaming wirelessly from your computer, while the second means you're pulling things directly off the AppleTV's hard drive. You can switch back and forth between these methods by going into the Remote program's settings into the "Choose a Library section..." as long as you've set up both your computer and ATV to see the Remote.
Regardless, neither of these methods will accomplish what you want. You can play movies and podcasts on your ATV with the remote, but you can't rent movies, go to YouTube, etc. Hopefully v1.1 will add these things.

• How to backup new learned remote-control data for the IR-remote APP???

Hello @ all,
does anybody know a way to backup the new learned remote control on XPERIA Z Tablet?
I found a database under:
"system/vendor/etc/sony-ir-remote/db"
But after I've saved new learned remote controls the date and the size of these DB's
are the same as before. Therefore the IR-remote control APP dosn't save the new data
in these files.
Furthermore there isn't a button in the remote-control APP to backup new learned remote controls.
And I can't choose the remote control APP in the backup function APP from the XPERIA Z Tablet
to save the data. Also the backup with the Sony PC Companion Software dosn't save the learned
remote controls. Who develops such a dross mobile software?
Sorry SONY, but you have the most unpalatable support I've lived to see!
The first SONY support center refered me to another support center.
The mobile support center does not answer to my questions per mail.
Then I call the mobile support center. The answers were shallow and standard.
The support engineer want to ask the development and call back.
However, I am still waiting for promised recall.

I am facing the same problem.
I have spend a few days to configure and train my Sony tablet to configure for all my remotes such as aircon and lighting. I did a backup using the Sony companion to my PC. When my tablet was faulty and serviced. But the backup did not recover the IR remote settings and codes which I programmed previously. I also tried your backup restore app but it also does not save the configuration.
It is VERY IMPORTANT for me to backup the settings.
Please provide the folders and path of where the IR REMOTE settings and personal configuration and codes trained were kept so that I could back them up. Are these path protected area that required rooted access?
Hope that Sony could update the app to include backup of new trained codes and settings and in the meantime to provide a procedure of how to backup the setting and trained IR codes with or without rooting the device.

• Why not leave remote app for 4.2.1?

Hi there, with my family i own 3 ipod touches, 3 shuffles, and two iphones. I own two houses where i have set up a central computer to run itunes with airport expresses all over my houses to control speakers and music through the "remote" app. I am heavily invested in apple products and apps. My use of apple technology for our media enjoyment is truly great and never ceases to amaze guests. I LOVE "remote" and airport.
Since i have had to restore all my ipods for various reasons, i am now no longer able to download the remote app since apple only supports iOS 5 or later. They have instantly rendered my whole apple setup useless. This is extremely disapointing and they are basically telling me that my purchase of their hardware was a mistake and that they only care about people who purchase new things. Which is a great reason not to purchase new things from them.
What i don't understand is why they simply can't put a version of remote in the app store for iOS 4.2.1. You obviously have it, so why not just put it there?????
So little effort to leave 4.2.1 apps in the store. They could even create a special section based on iOS.
Now they are forcing me to consider alternative solutions, of which there are many. I simply would never have bothered to do this before since i was so satisfied with apple products. They are literally forcing me to look at alternatives and this is a failure on their part from a business and marketing perspective.
Now i will most likely go from an evangelizer of apple products to a hater. It is simply disrespectful how theyare treating people with old products...

Interesting. It really boggles me why they would do this. Seems it would be easy to seperate the app store into pre and post 4.3?
The devices i have work perfectly fine and do everything i need them to. I don't want to buy new devices. It is an awful stance to take and i find it very insulting. Is this not a big issue with users out there? Or is everyone just buying new stuff all the time?
