Sony Monitor hooked to a Thunderbolt display

Has anyone hooked a Sony SDM-P234 monitor to a Thunderbolt display?

I didn't suggest using a VGA adapter because I never suggest using an analog interface when a digital interface is available.
But given that you have the vga adapter did you see an Arrangement tab in the Displays system preferences?  If not try clicking Detect Displays and make sure the TB plug is pushed firmly in so that essentially all the metal part disappears inside the socket.
If you do have an Arrangement tab, and it shows two screens, then click Gather Windows to bring the other screen's Displays preferences on to your main screen.  Set the proper resolution.  Set the refresh rate if that preference is shown.  Hopefully you should see a picture at this point.

  • Daisy chain 2 thunderbolt displays by direct connect

I was hoping to hook up 2 thunderbolt displays to a mac mini. With the way the screens are set up, they will be nearly 6' apart from each other, which makes connecting the pigtail of screen two to screen one impossible. I havent' been having a lot of luck with finding reviews of reliable extention cables that are known to work, but I have been seeing a ton of thunderbolt to thunderbolt cables (6' and 9'). Is it possible to daisy chain from the 1 open thunderbolt port on display one to display two and leaving the pigtail detached?
    Thanks!

    Much obliged!

  • Thunderbolt Display + mini?

Hello, I'm looking for advice on hooking up my Thunderbolt Display to a keyboard + harddrive for the best value. It's a temporary situation while I'm between MacBooks. Anyone have a setup that works for them?
    thanks so much.
    Laura

you'll need a thunderbolt computer, so your options are limited to those mini's with thunderbolt; if funds are tight, either buy a refurbished one from apple or find one on craigslist/ebay

  • Hi, I just got an Apple Thunderbolt Display. How can I connect it to my sony vaio pc? Thanks

Hi, I just got an Apple Thunderbolt Display. How can I connect it to my sony vaio pc? At Apple Store they gave me a Mini Display Port to VGA Adapter, but monitor doesnt display any image. Thanks for your help!

no, your computer needs to have thunderbolt technology. does it?
if not, no adapter can make a thunderbolt display work on a non-thunderbolt computer.
someone was likely confused since miniDP will FIT into a TB socket but is only compatible one way, ie a mDP display can work on a TB machine, but a TB display cannot work on a mDP machine

  • Daisy Chain 24" Monitor to 27" Thunderbolt Display

    Hi everybody,
I have the 2011 MBP with the 6750m and I want to buy the new 27" Thunderbolt Display. Currently, I'm using a Samsung 24" DVI Display with the Display Port to DVI adapter that I bought with the MBP.
I was wondering if I can continue to use the 24" and daisy chain it to the Thunderbolt Display?
    Best,
    Luka

Kevin can you confirm this? Do you have a Thunderbolt Display, with a MiniDisplayport to DVI hooked up to your Dell laptop? I presume this works, but that you only have the monitor and speakers working, without the USB/Ethernet/TB port that are on the back of the display?
I am waiting for somebody to test this so I can decide to buy the display yes or no so please let me know asap : )
    Thomas.

  • When I went to start up the Thunderbolt display the monitor is completely dark

Just bought a Thunderbolt Monitor, hooked it up and scree is completely black

Mid 2009 MBP has a mini-displayport, not thunderbolt.  You cannot connect a TB display to mini-displayport, only to a TB source.
    Confusing Mini DisplayPort with Thunderbolt
Note, apple still sells the mini-displayport version of the 27" display.

  • Can I hook up an early 2011 macbook pro to a new iMac AND another thunderbolt display?

I want to get a new iMac, and I have an early 2011 macbook pro.  Can I use a two-way thunderbolt cable to hook these two up?  If so, will I still be able to use full functionality on both as I move windows to and from one of them?  (Like, I use my macbook track pad to move a safari window over to my iMac, and then I can either use my iMac mouse or my macbook's trackpad to do things with that safari window.
ALSO, is it possible to hook up an additional thunderbolt display to all of this?  Basically my end-goal is to have a macbook pro hooked up to an iMac with an additional thunderbolt display, that's my "dream set-up" which will make a lot of stuff that I do a lot easeir and less crowded on one moniter.

no the thunderbold display thing would let you use the imac as a monitor for the macbook apart from acting the role of display the imac would be dorment so a very pricy monitor

  • How to connect VGA Monitor via Thunderbolt Display

I've been using my Macbook Air mid 2013 with a Samsung monitor connected via the Mini Display Port to VGA adapter. I've now bought a 27" Thunderbolt display, which I've connect to my Mac, and assumed I could now daisy chain my samsung monitor into the Thunderbolt port in the back of the monitor. This isn't working.
Is this expected behaviour? Some people have said online that it will work if there's some other Thunderbolt peripheral between the Thunbolt Display and the VGA adapter, but I don't know what kind of peripheral they mean.
Apple support says that my model Macbook air can power two external displays.
How can I get this to work?
    Thank you

I want to know if I can connect a vga monitor to the quad by simply getting a vga to dvi adaptor.
    Yes, you can.

I have my Macbook Air hooked up to a Thunderbolt Display, is there any way to power on the Macbook Air using an Apple USB keyboard plugged into the Thunderbolt display? I would like to be able to keep the Macbook Air in the Archbook dock and not have to open it to power it on?

  • Can I run two thunderbolt display monitors off of my new 27" iMac?

Can I run two thunderbolt display monitors off of my new 27" iMac?

Yes, the new iMac has two Thunderbolt ports. Plus Thunderbolt can be daisy chained thru external Thunderbolt drives and displays that have multiple ports.
    For more info, see >  Apple - Thunderbolt: Next-generation high-speed I/O technology.
Although I'm not sure exactlly what Arrangement selections you will be offered in the Displays Preference, because I have not tested that setup myself...

I am using duel thunderbolt displays with a MacBook Pro. I only have the option to have sound come from one or the other. Has anyone thought of making the left channel come from both speakers on the left Monitor and the same of the right? If yes, how is that done? The MacBook Pro could even be a center channel if configured in that order.

  • MacMini (2011) problem with Thunderbolt display if 2nd monitor is connected via HDMI/DVI adapter

    Hi,
    iam running a MacMini (2011) 2.3GHz i5 with Mac OS X 10.7.4 16 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 256 GB Samsung SSD.
If i connect a Thunderbolt display only - all is fine.
But if i connect a 2nd monitor ( Samsung S23A700) via HDMI / DVI adapter (original Apple) the major screen (Thunderbolt Display) sometimes
is going black and immidiately back to normal. It looks like that it happens very often if i scroll down with the Apple Magic Mouse.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance
    Thomas

I have exactly the same problem. MacMini Server i7 (mid 2011) Macmini5.3.16Gb ram.
    Mini and Thunderbolt no blink-outs.
Mini and Thunderbolt and Dell 23" connected to HDMI-DVI connector, the Thunderbolt display blinks out when system is under stress as in the Develop module of Lightroom 4.
I thought it was a problem with my Thunderbolt display, and since its on a VESA mount, I didn't really want to haul in in to the Apple Store.  I decided to be sure it was the dosplay...
I borrowed a MacbookPro i7 and ran it from a clone of my Mini. No problems aster hours of use. (But with only ONE monitor.)  That suggested that there was no problem with the Thunderbolt Display.
I decided to run the Mini with only one display.  Again no problems. I plugged in the Second monitor to the HDMI port and within 2 minutes I had my first "Blink-Out".
I ran the rest of the day without the second monitor with no problems.
I conclude the mini will not work reliably with two monitors if one is a Thunderbolt.
I was using two Dell Monitors before I got the Thunderbolt Diskplay (for 3 months) without incident.

  • Hi - How do I connect an HDTV as a second monitor to Thunderbolt display with macbook pro in clamshell mode?

I have a Late 2011 Macbook Pro in clamshell mode connected to a Thunderbolt Display with the built in Thunderbolt cable. I want to then connect an HDTV via the Thunderbolt port at the back of the Thunderbolt display. I already had a  cable that I thought would work which turns out to be a MiniDisplay port to HDMI cable and therefore not compatible with Thunderbolt to Thunderbolt (Mini DisplayPort not being the same technology although it uses the same port - although I'm not an expert !!) So far a web search has provided me with the only solution being using a Thunderbolt dock or storage that has multiple Thunderbolt ports and then  using that to daisychain inbetween the Thunderbolt Diplay and the HDTV. The cheapest solution I can find for this would be about £250. Surely not ??!!!!
Many thanks for any comments - Nik

You could also use aThunderbolt dock with HDMI, such as:

  • Will I be able to hook up a miniDV Camcorder to a macbook air if it's hooked up to a Thunderbolt Display?

I was told the Thunderbolt > Firewire converter didn't work well with camcorders, and was wondering if the Thunderbolt display would be any different? Any help would be really useful to me. I have about 6 years worth of miniDV home videos that I want to convert to harddrives/Blu-Ray discs so I don't need to deal with miniDV tapes anymore (I'll still save them for backup). Thanks everyone!
