Sony MXF (XAVC) file support

Please, please, please, please, please add Sony RAW and XAVC (.MXF) file support to Speedgrade.
Desperatelyw ant to export and EDL from Avid and reconform as 4K within Speedgrade but you don't support the file type.
Why? Why? Why?

It may take some time that Adobe will add those features, why not try to  trans-code your raw video into another foramt then load them into Adobe? Or use mxf plug-in offered by Sony , click here . Just in case this plug-in can't do what it should do. Find the third-party converter may solve your problem.

What version of Premiere Elements are you using and how many days since the date of purchase and did you purchase from Adobe direct?

Premiere Elements 12 and 13 do indeed support XAVC-S video (import, edit, and export). If you want to explore your particular issue to find out the cause of your problem, we need details which you are not including - how is it not working and all the rest? We would be glad as one use to another to work out the problem with you.

  • Cannot open MXF XAVC files in quicktime or FCP7

I am working with a new Sony FS7 video camera  that records in XAVC codec as mxf  files - Same as the F5 or F55. I have installed the new ProApps update that is supposed to  make it easy to use XAVC in Final Cut 7 which I still use and have also updated  Quicktime 7 . However neither Quicktime 7 nor Final Cut 7 will open the mxf files.  I have spent time on  the FS7 discussion boards and no one can figure out why. Others are also having the same problem though.
I am on  a Macbook Pro 9,1 intel Core i7, 2.7Gz  with an Nvidia GT650 graphics card and plenty of Ram  and power and am running OS 10.9.5
I tried the same thing on my wife's computer which is around the same age as mine and the files opened up immediately in QT 7 and FCP 7. I assume there is some kind of conflict going on but have no idea what it is. Because I do a lot of editing over the years a lot of things have been installed in my computer that are not in my wife's thus my suspicion of a conflict.

I was also recommended to download and install the XAVC Plug-in for Apple (PDZK-LT2) provided by Sony, which provides support for XAVC files shot on Sony SxS card, allowing viewing and editing capability in Final Cut Pro X. But: This plug-in requires Final Cut Pro X 10.0.8 or higher for XAVC format.    Finally, I choose to encode XAVC to Prores codec, which has been designed to work especially well as high-quality, high performance editing codecs for Final Cut Pro(no matter FCP X or FCP 6/7). Hope the information can be helpful to you.

  • Sony A77 raw file support

I looked up here http://www.apple.com/aperture/specs/raw.html and saw that the support of Sony A77 raw file is there. However, after I bought and installed the aperture, it does not support the raw file.... iMac OSX 10.7.2 and the aperture is the latest one.

I actually did the camera raw support 3.9 update but I still can not open my a77 raw files.
I find out that the problem is, all the raw files I imported into Aperture before I did the 3.9 update
are still not supported. All raw files imporrted after the 3.9 update installed can now be viewed and edited.
    Thank you for the answer

  • Is the Sony ARW raw files supported in Adobe Photoshop Elements 10?

I downloaded and installed CameraRaw_8_8 and installed it, restarted my Adobe Elements 10, but nothing seemed to change.  My Adobe Elements 10 still does not allow me to select a ARW raw file photo.  Am I missing something?

  • Sony cameras A7 raw files support?

looking for Sony A7 raw files support for i-photo.

    1. Well that's not actually true. There is frequently a lag between the release of the camera and Adobe offering Raw support. They are often faster to add it, true, but they do not "always" get converters out before the camera hits the market.
    2. I'm not really sure just what this proves, of course. How often do you change cameras?

  • Can't open Sony PXW-X70 (.mxf) video files for Final Cut Pro X or iMovie, please help!

    Hi there--
Just got the Sony PXW-X70 and I can't seem to open the .mxf or even successfully transcode the video files into something that can be read on the mac. (Running 10.9.5)
I downloaded Brorsoft Video Converter for Mac and the Ackrock Video Converters and neither of them work. They just are able to import the audio but not the video portion.
Very frustrated here, any advice? Thanks!

The clips from the X70 are not XAVC-S, but XAVC (sometimes called XAVC-L) and the plugin from Sony linked above is not compatible with them. I also don't recommend those sketchy third party conversion options. Still, as of mid-December, the best options for getting Sony X70 XAVC clips into FCPX are:
    1. Use the free Sony Catalyst Browse to convert them (one at a time, although you can queue up multiple files without waiting for the previous one to finish)
    2. Use the $200 Sony Catalyst Prepare software
    3. Shoot AVCHD until there is a solution from Sony - supposedly Sony is at work on a plugin for FCPX to allow native ingest/editing of these clips. I've read that it should arrive very soon, but we'll see.
I'm using option 1 - $200 is ridiculous, and I didn't buy a camera with 10-bit 4:2:2 and a strong codec to shoot in AVCHD
If it's any consolation, Avid and even Sony Vegas will not import them either.

  • I'm working with MXF XAVCi footage shot in S-Log on a Sony FS7

I'm working with MXF XAVCi footage shot in S-Log on a Sony FS7 - Can anyone tell what the optimum sequence settings are for premiere pro CC. I'm editing then doing a round trip into DaVinci. Currently settings are AVC - Intra 100 1080p.
    Many thanks

Frankly, your best bet would probably be to recapture from the source into FCP. Alternatively you could export the files from the Avid directly as Quicktime Movie files instead of taking the raw MXF's.
Options for working directly with the MXF's include:
    http://www.calibratedsoftware.com/MXFImportQ_OSX.html ( USD 60 )
    http://mxf4mac.com/products/mfx4qt/#mxf4qt_import ( EURO 399 )
    http://dvfilm.com/raylight/mac/index.htm ( USD 195 )
but I have no info as to whether these would enable you to work directly with an AVID MXF

  • Sony XAVC files from F55 no longer play back at all and cause glitches since update today - 13th Dec

    Hi,
Since updating Premiere today any Sony XAVC files I have in my projects no longer play back and cause fairly big glitches. All was completely fine yesterday before I updated. Does anyone have any info on this? Hoping for a fairly quick patch as it's rendered a time sensitive project I'm on unworkable.
    Thanks

Thanks Jim, trying this now and hopefully it'll work

  • Bridge support for MXF video files?

I use the Canon XF305 and have been using Bridge with other cameras (like the 7D) to log metadata and preview files before importing into Pr 5.5. However, I find that I can't view the MXF format files in the Mac version (I've not tried the Windows version). Is MXF not supported by Bridge? If not, it should be.
The ability to use Bridge to add metadata to MXF files would be a real boon. I typically shoot three camera shoots and need to go back and log the data.

There is a utility for logging metadata from Canon that comes with the camera, so I'm going to see if there is any transfer of their metadata to what Bridge uses.
In doing more reading, and watching more Adobe videos, it appears that Adobe wants video producers to use On Location, both before, during and after shooting to log metadata. It's a bit confusing why some of the trainers are recommending Bridge, which doesn't support all the various codecs, while others are recommending OL.  But it appears that OL will do what I am after.
It would be good to see an Adobe document that highlights the pros and cons of using both and where they fit in the Adobe landscape.
I'm off for a morning of video and testing of OL.
More info from Adobe staff from Bridge would be useful (both for me and future newbies).

  • IS XAVC-S SUPPORTED BY FCPX ?

    HI ALL:
I don't seem to find specific answer to this question.
I know that the Professional XAVC is supported by FCPX by using the Sony Pluging.
But the XAVC--S is the consumer codec and cannot find this information anywhere. The spec sheet for FCPX on the support line only mentions XAVC and not the XAVC-S. As I have researched they ares 2 different codecs, one is Professional for certain Sony cams XDCAMs etc..  the other is the Consumer codec for the Sony Consumer cameras
can anyone point me in the right direction.???
    Thanks,
    AppleLOu

Hi David: the problem is not the Camera, I have the new FDR-AX33 4K that comes with 100Mbps recording right out the box the problem is how FCPX handles the ingest in its own import window. There are many ways that FCPX can ingest and play 4K from these cameras yours and mine as a matter of fact have the same File hierarchy structure on the SD card, you can ingest XAVC-S via conversion programs, Edit Ready or even Sony's own proprietary Catalyst Browser and many more I don't don't know which one you use.
Let me repeat with more detail what I am experiencing it could probably illustrate more the problem that I am talking about again the Spec sheet for FCPX only mentions support for XAVC but not XAVC-S.
I think I may have found a partial solution or a workaround to this problem.
I was trying to insert in the card reader a new card that I shot on the Sony AX-33 that only contained XAVC-S files that is 4K files shot at 100Mbps on the XAVC-S and HD at 60 Mbps at 60p for 1920×1080 also utilizing the same XAVC-S codec so I try importing the clips into FCPX thru the Import window and again the same problem occurred FCPX would see the card only as a Volume And not as a Camera I did this several times even powering down the computer and powering back up and still no go, so I could not even create an archive of the card.
I thought That I ran out of options when it occurred to me that I had one more format to try on the actual camera setting that did not require the use of XAVC-S codec,,,…. that was MP4 so I set it to that and using the same card that I had shot the previous clips, I shot 3 clips of MP4 at their default setting using the same camera and card and took the card out and reinserted it in the reader, opened FCPX and the import window and ……..VOILA!! the card showed up as a Camera in the import window not only with the 3 MP4 files that I just added BUT ALSO WITH ALL THE CLIPS THAT I HAD SHOT IN 4K AND HD USING THE XAVC-S CODEC of course now being displayed as a Camera I am now able to select and play the 4K files and HD files and even select ranges for import or create a camera Archive. Freaking Amazing!!!
I have a theory FCPX does not show at this point any new supported cameras from Sony that shoot with the New codec XAVC-S but they do show supporting the XAVC (without the S) codec in their support page I kind of wonder if this is actually the problem and it may be fixed in future upgrades.
I know that the XAVC-S codec is the consumer version and the XAVC is the Professional version for the XDCAMS from Sony and that one has a Sony Propietary plugging for import on to FCPX, but I don’t know if it applies to the XAVC-S that is used in consumer cameras like mine.
The Sony AX-100 uses the same codec and file system on the card and it has been out for more than one year I wonder if there are any AX-100 users out there that can comment on this finding.
I will have to do more testing but for now I think this is a work around I still can not find any explanation. I work out of a new late 2013 MacPro with 6 cores and dual 700 FIREPRO AMD graphic card with 32Gigs of memory I never have trouble with 4K playing in this machine.
    Thanks,
    Luis

  • How can I process a Sony A7 RAW file into Photoshop CS5.

How can I process a Sony A7 RAW file into Photoshop CS5.  I tried the file DNG converter 8.3, but it did not work.  I was able to download it, but upon reading the memory chip from Photoshop CS5, it reads the jpg files fine, but not the RAW files.  I thought the DNG converter 8.3 was the right file, but apparently it is not.  Perhaps I need to do something in Photoshop CS5 to initiate it, or place it in a particular directory.. Please help.

First of all, you should have used the Adobe DNG Converter 8.6, not an old, obsolete version.  Always use the very latest version.  8.3 was simply the first ACR version to support your camera model, that's all.
Note that the DNG Converter works only on folders, not on individual raw files.  Put all your Sony raw files in a folder and run the Converter on that folder containing the raw files.
I have absolutely no clue as to what on Earth you mean by : "upon reading the memory chip from Photoshop CS5".
You also need to make sure that CS5 is fully updated.  You cannot rely on the highly and notoriously unreliable Adobe auto updater to tell whether you have the latest update installed or not.
I still have no idea what platform you are on, Mac or Windows. Please read the following for next time:
    BOILERPLATE TEXT:
If you give complete and detailed information about your setup and the issue at hand,
such as your platform (Mac or Win),
exact versions of your OS, of Photoshop (not just "CS6", but something like CS6v.13.0.6) and of Bridge,
machine specs, such as total installed RAM, scratch file HDs, total available HD space, video card specs, including total VRAM installed,
what troubleshooting steps you have taken so far,
    what error message(s) you receive,
if having issues opening raw files also the exact camera make and model that generated them, etc.,
someone may be able to help you (not necessarily this poster).
A screen shot could be very helpful too.

  • Import Sony RAW .arw files not automatic

I decided to take the plunge yesterday I downloaded the trial LR2 (now 2.1) and purchased Kelby's Lightroom 2 book. All my catalog from PSE6 imported without a hitch. That's over 12000 photos with about half of them Minolta (.mrw) and Sony RAW (.arw) files. Then I decided to import the shots I had just taken from a weekend photoshoot. I plugged in my CF into the card reader and started LR. When I clicked on the IMPORT button for my CF location all I got was the message "NO PHOTOS WERE FOUND TO IMPORT". I can import the files using the manual CHOOSE FILE option but I want it to work just like PSE with auto import. From what I understand that should be the case. After a Google search I found importing Sony RAW images (.arw) was an issue in LR1, but shouldn't Aobe have fixed it by now?? Just as an aside, if I'm having this issue with .arw files, when I import the RAW images from my Minolta 7Hi I wonder if I'll have the same issue.
Since its a trail version I'm not eligible for Adobe support, so there is no help coming from there.

  • Sony RX100 raw files converted with DNG converter not recognizable

Since  installing Maverick 10.9.4 on the Mac, Sony RX100 raw files converted with DNG converter are no more recognizable.
    Somebody else the same problem?

I know my DNG files themselves and the info they contain are fine. But they're not properly supported in Mavericks 10.9.4 and I don't plan on switching to Windows. A file that I converted to a DNG using Adobe software is now listed as an unrecognized file in OSX. No thumbnails, no iPhoto, no Aperture. Essentially, no support. And this is a problem. A quick search will show you people with various Sony cameras (A7, RX100 mkI and mkIII, at least) having the same problem.
No matter where the blame falls, the simple fact is that if you shoot with various Sony cameras, use Adobe software to convert the file to DNG and happen to be an OSX user, you're files are no longer compatible with OSX or Apple's photo software. They will only open in Adobe software. You literally get a warning message from OSX saying, this is an unsupported file type when you try and open it.
Like I said previously, I've had a managed iPhoto library for about 5 years now, numerous hours of tagging and organzing, and every DNG file converted from a Sony ARW RAW is currently unsupported. Original ARW files work just fine. It's nuts. Maybe it's Adobe's fault. Maybe it's Apple's fault. It really doesn't matter. If DNG is not a reliable standard format under certain edge cases (Sony ARW, DNG converter, OSX Mavericks), it's not a reliable standard format at all. I just hope that Apple or Adobe figures this out, so that I can get those photos back.
In the mean time, certain users such as myself just can't rely on DNG. End of story.

  • Open MXF video file in QT7

I have set every MXF video file to open with the SONY XDCAM tool. I need to write a script that will open an MXF file in QT7. I cant get it to work. This code still opens the file in the XDCAM app.
    tell application "Finder"
    set x to selection
    set y to item 1 of x
tell application "QuickTime Player 7" to open y
    end tell
    any ideas????

Assuming "QuickTime Player 7.app" is located in the Utilities folder, the following should do the trick:
*set theApp to POSIX file "/Applications/Utilities/QuickTime Player 7.app"*
    *tell application "Finder"*
    *   set x to selection*
    *   set y to item 1 of x*
    *   open y using theApp*
    *end tell*
    Hope it can help.
