SONY Optiarc BluRay player WILL NOT recognize DVD's

I have updated Quickplay, Tried Cyberlink PowerDVD 9 Ultra, Looked everywhere for new HP firmware and when I insert the new "Year One" DVD into my drive it WILL NOT read it at all. When I go to my Computer it just shows no DVD inserted. When I start QuickPlay or PowerDVD it says No disk inserted. Has anyone found a way to fix this problem. I have tried EVERYTHING I found on Google trying to fix it and NOTHING has worked.

C'mon anyone??????   anyone??????

I have had my mac book pro for about a year and a half and suddenly my dvd player will not play DVDs and i can not play alot of things on full screen. Does anybody know how i can fix this?

This could be several things, but let's get the obvious ones out of the way, first:
    1. Judging from your text, there's no problem with anything stuck in the mechanism; it's more an issue of no being to put in a disk. In other words, you're sure that there isn't a disk stuck in your MBP. (That happens a lot for all computers.)
    2. Go to Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility, and repair the disk. This should take under 10 minutes.
    3. Perform the procedure outlined here:
    http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?
    4. After you're done, leave a message here as to the status of the repair.

    Hi,
Follow the procedure on the link below to create a bootable Ubuntu CD and follow the steps in Part 3 to 'Try it' to see if this OS will run from the CD without the need to install on your HDD.  This will show whether the problem is with Windows or a Hardware problem with the optical drive.

  • Will not recognize DVDs, including the new OS X Snow Leopard install disk

I just got a used, year-old Macbook Pro and it will not read DVDs and was brought to my attention when I tried to install the new OS X 10.6 and it would make noises like it was trying to read the disk, and then it ejects the disk every time I try. I tried multiple DVDs and it did the same **** for everything I put in. It reads CDs completely fine and even burns CDs but for some reason it does not read DVDs. Any suggestions are very helpful.

Not recognizing / mounting discs: I used to think this was a cleaning issue, and found myself removing my optical drives, taking them apart, and cleaning the lenses, etc. whenever the problem occurred. Then one time decided to simply disconnect the drives, restarting the system with the drives disconnected, then shutting down, reconnecting the drives, and restarting... bam. Drives were good to go, the problem fixed- discs mounting just fine. Apparently it wasn't the "cleaning" I was doing, it was the disconnect / reconnect that was fixing it. I don't bother cleaning them any more. Now I just do the disconnect/reconnect dance. I would consider this as being something related to the SMC, except the same issue existed with my G5, which did not utilize the SMC function as with the Intel machines.

    pressed eject button alot...
    ran permission repair
restarted many times, holding down various keys.
tried command line: drutil tray open & drutil eject
    tried CleanGenius: http://www.easemac.com/support/online-help/eject-device.htm
many other things. Could not locate: Try going into your home folder/Library/Preferences and look for a file named com.apple.DVDPlayer.plist and throw that out.

    what can i do?

Yeah, that's not good. You could try resetting the SMC, sometimes it helps. Other than that you have two choices replace the drive, either yourself or by someone, or just buy an external drive. Considering that your Mac is 5 years old I'd go the external route. To reset the SMC
    Shut down the computer.
    Unplug the computer's power cord.
    Wait fifteen seconds.
    Attach the computer's power cord.
Wait five seconds, then press the power button to turn on the computer.

  • Will not recognize DVD-R

    Hi All,
Below are the specs for my SuperDrive on my MacBook:
    HL-DT-ST DVDRW GSA-S10N:
    Firmware Revision: BP10
    Interconnect: ATAPI
Burn Support: Yes (Apple Shipping Drive)
    Cache: 2048 KB
    Reads DVD: Yes
    CD-Write: -R, -RW
    DVD-Write: -R, -R DL, -RW, +R, +R DL, +RW
    Write Strategies: CD-TAO, CD-SAO, CD-Raw, DVD-DAO
Media: Insert media and refresh to show available burn speeds
The issue that we are having is that we can burn CD's, can even watch DVD's but when we launch iDVD and attempt to burn a DVD-R it just kicks out the DVD after trying to read it.
It asks to insert a recordable DVD disc, we do so, it attempts to try and read it and recognize it and then write but then just kicks out the disc. Does anyone have any ideas?
Someone told me about cleaning, is there any validity toward this?

You are talking about something completely different. Dual Layer is completely different.
His problem unlike yours has to do with the media he and so many others use.
A few years back the availability of 1X and 2X and 4X media was available, which is no longer the case and users were having a terrible problem by buying 8X media that simply wouldn't work.
So many of the manufactures, after being made aware of this problem took steps to make the media they manufactured to be reverse compatible which made that problem go away.
You see there are several issues that can cause problems, from the Blank Disc's used to the software, and in some cases the firmware of the computers Optical Media has shown to be the problem so as you see it can be a multi-facited issue.
I would bet that unless it is an absolute necessity for you to use DL media your problem will disapear by simply using a High Quality DVD-R Media.
Here is a quality guide that works.
    http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm
One last thing to remember is the software in general that is furnished is entry level software and the use of top of the line software that gives you the options to burn
    Audio
    Video
    Data
does and will make a difference, here is what I recommend.

  • Macbook will not recognize DVD and any External HD

All of a sudden, My two external hard drives, which have loaded perfectly in the past, are not being recognized by OSX. I inserted my Leopard Install DVD and it received the same warning message "The Disk Inserted was not recognized...." The DVD is not showing, nor can be ejected.
when i got to disk utility, the DVD is shown as a blank is inserted. And when i look at the external drives, i have no available options. I "repaired permissions" on the internal HD but that had no effect.
Also, coincidentally, My spotlight has stopped working. It is unable to find anything. When i followed some instructions my out come was "no index". The computer cant seem to read any volumes or something....
I have a feeling there is some sort of conflict, but am not sure how to resolve it.
    Help!
    and Thanks.

Also, i get a mount failure ("no disks available to mount") if i try to open any disk iso.
It is a universal filesystem error, I have tried to force mount the externals to no luck. I get the "no disks available to mount"......

  • After Upgrade to 10.5.8 Optical Drive will not Recognize DVD's

    Hello Everyone,
I was hoping that someone would be able to shed light on a problem I recently ran into after upgrading from Leopard 10.5.7 to 10.5.8 and possibly suggest a solution.
I believe there is an issue with the optical drive software. The reason I suspect this is because one evening I was able to watch a DVD without any problems. After completing the upgrade to version 10.5.8 of Leopard last night, the same DVD failed to play. When inserting the disk, the optical drive makes a whirring sound for about a minute then proceeds to spit out the DVD. I've tested this with CD's, which seem to work fine. Other DVD's have the same issue as the first.
Can anyone suggest anything to help sort this issue out?
    Many thanks to everyone.
    Ron

I'm facing the same issues with my MacBook and its "SuperDrive". Right after inserting any media, it spits it out immediately, thus, I'm not able to read nor write any kind of disc. Below are the specs for my "SuperDrive":
    MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-868:
    Firmware: KA14
    Connection: ATAPI
    Recording: Yes
    Cache: 0 KB
    Reads DVD: Sim
    Records CD: -R, -RW
    Records DVD: -R, -RW
    Recording: CD-TAO, CD-SAO, DVD-DAO
I have sent Steve Jobs an email ([email protected], [email protected], [email protected] and [email protected]) and posted a feedback here: http://www.apple.com/feedback/macbook.html
Probably you guys have seen it already, but MacBook Pro owners are having similar issues with their "SuperDrives": http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1918925&start=0&tstart=0

The IMAC will play rented dvd movies.   The dvd movie plays fine on my Mac Book Pro (10.6.8) on the Pro's DVDPlayer (vers.5.4) abd in my external Sony DVD Player  The dvd move was made/burned on a PC.   Why will a dvd movie play on my Macbook Pro and not my IMAC?

    Hello:
This is not an area I have much experience in......I rarely insert DVDs and I have never had a similar problem.
When the DVD is in the drive (and DVD players is open) click on File>get disk info.

  • ITunes Will Not Recognize My CD/DVD Drive In My Windows Vista PC.

    All,
I was forced to migrate to a new PC for work. It is running Windows Vista Enterprise. Since receiving the PC, iTunes will not recognize my CD/DVD Drive. I receive the following error message:
"Warning, The registry settings used by the iTunes drivers for importing and burning CD's and DVD's are missing....." etc.
I have completed the following troubleshooting steps with no success:
    1. Deleted upper and lower filters in the registry per the Microsoft fix from their web site.
    2. Completely uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes/Quicktime/Etc.
    3. Uninstalled and reinstalled the CD/DVD Drive
    4. Verified that other programs recognize and can burn to my CD/DVD drive. I have Windows Media Player and Roxio Creator Basic installed.
    5. Verified that Windows Vista recognizes my CD/DVD drive.
    6. Installed the GEAR driver recommended on the Apple Support page for this issue.
All of my music in is iTunes and I prefer to burn my CD's via iTunes. I have read that several people are having this issue.
Does anyone have a solution? There has to be a fix out there somewhere.
I can downgrade to XP but it will take an "Act Of Congress" for my corporate IT group to send me the XP downgrade CD.
Any solutions or recommendations are great appreciated.

  • DVD Drive will not recognize any movie DVD disk in the drive - thus will not play any dvd movies.

HP G71 449WV dvd drive will not recognize any dvd disc that has a movie on it. Will not play movies, keeps saying to insert disc when there is a disc in there.  It will recognize a dvd data disc or a blank dvd, it just will not recognize any dvd movies.  I've tried the microsoft fix it, downloaded new codecs, using different dvd playback software but none of that works since the drive will not recognize there is even a dvd movie in the drive.  Computer is out of warranty.

Hello crollinsphoto1, welcome to the HP Forums.
It appears that you're not able to play movie DVD's in the DVD player in your notebook. I will try to assist you with this.
I'd recommend starting with this document:
Resolving DVD and Blu-ray Movie Problems (Windows 7).
Also, are these purchased DVD's or burnt DVD's?
Do the movies play in other sources? (DVD player, other PC)
Let me know how this goes.
    Thanks.
I worked on behalf of HP.
