Sony PS-LS300USB Turntable

I purchased this turntable about 4 years ago and never tried to download my records. I wish to do this now but can't find the software. I contacted Sony and they told me I can't load that old software because it will not work on my Windows 7 64bit laptop. I asked for help in where I can get the updated software and drivers for this computer and this is what I am trying to do. Can anyone out there help me... BGordon1

For computers that are not compatible with the supplied Sound Forge software I've found that Audacity (http://audacity.sourceforge.net/) works fine with this turntable (and it's free).

  • Sony PS-LX250h turntable question.

My turntable is not keeping a consistant speed.  During transport, the turntable was placed upside down and the platter and belt came off.  I remounted the platter and belt and that's when the speed started to become inconsistant.  It speeds up and slows down.  I have tried adjusting the speed by adjusting the set screws on the bottom of the unit.  It speeds up tremendously when I place the jeweler's screwdriver in the adjustment hole, even without turning the screw driver.
I have also noticed that when the tone arm returns after the end of a record, it lowers before it gets to its resting cradle.
What could be causing these two issues and how can I fix?
    Thanks.

Follow the procedure below to troubleshoot the issue of the turntable platter is not spinning at a constant rate, speeding up, or slowing down.
NOTE: A warped record will produce this effect.
Verify that the record being played is not warped.
Verify that the drive belt is secure, and is not in need of replacement.
If the issue is still unresolved after completing all of the troubleshooting steps, service will be required .

  • Sony PS-LX300USB turntable runs too fast.

Set at 33 the output sounds like 45rpm on my computer. Is there an adjustment that needs to be made to the drive belt?

Follow the procedure below to troubleshoot the issue of the turntable platter not spinning at a constant rate, speeding up, or slowing down.
This effect may be produced by a warped record. Make sure that the record being played is not warped.
Verify that the drive belt is secure, and is not in need of replacement.
Try adjusting the speed using the SPEED SELECT button on the turntable.

  • Recommendations for Analog to Digital conversion

I am seeking the help of all the Pros out there. I am moving my extensive analog music collection (LP/Cassette) to the digital world. Are there any recommendations for creating a CD-quality sound/volume level. I am currently using the standards (click/pop/hiss reduction, compressor and/or hard limiting). I am recording at 44.1/16 Bit and saving files in mp3 PRO-320 kbps for sake of storage. I welcome any assistance in regard to Plug-ins, equalization or other suggestions.
    Thank you in advance

    >I am recording at 44.1/16 Bit and saving files in mp3 PRO-320 kbps for sake of storage. I welcome any assistance in regard to Plug-ins, equalization or other suggestions.
You shouldn't save files as MP3s until all the processing you want to do has been done - this is a lossy format, and every time you open a file saved like this it gets re-decoded, and then re-encoded when you do a save. And the quality degeneration is progressive. And unfortunately, recording your files as 16-bit is also not going to be quite the thing to do if you are going to do any sort of amplitude processing at all, either, especially if you are recording at a lower-than-optimum amplitude, which is usually the case. 44.1k is fine, though!
So, to get over the potential problems, the thing to do is to digitise your files as 44.1k 32-bit floating point, and until all processing is done, store them as Windows PCM wav files in this format, because that is uncompressed, which is what you need.
If you want to reduce noise on cassette recordings, it's worth using a fairly high FFT setting, even though it takes longer to do the processing. Since most of the noise is not LF, this tends to work better, although there is also a case for doing the NR twice, once with a lower FFT setting and once with a higher one, but not trying to take out too much in one go.
As for click reduction - well, you have to experiment. But letting the software determine all of the levels tends to give you a pretty good starting point. Another trick that's sometimes worth it is to transform your files temporarily to M-S stereo instead of L-R, and treat each channel separately - you generally get different levels of clicks in each, usually more in the S signal, whilst the M cancels out quite a few. And in general, the less clicks you can get away with processing, the better.
Hard limiting? Never used it on a conversion like that at all, and wouldn't even consider it - transients are already likely to be distorted, and hard limiting them further seems like a
    very strange thing to do...
Other tools that are useful, especially on cassettes are iZotope's Ozone (some of which is already in Audition) and HarBal. You can restore usually distorted frequency responses with the latter, and get a good average value automatically and easily. And judicious use of Ozone's enhancer can make them seem a lot less like the results came from a cassette...
One of the useful things you can do with Ozone is to selectively widen parts of the spectrum. Since most records of music tend (for reasons of tracking) to have had the bass forced to be virtually mono, with subsequent similar consequences for other instruments with substantial LF content, it's worth expanding just about everything under about 250Hz, possibly by more than you might think.
Generally, 'normal' EQ doesn't have a lot of use when processing vinyl, if it's relatively recent. And that generally means anything from the 60's onwards. If you think things are seriously wrong, the chances are that it's your monitors and environment that are misleading you. Just bear in mind that when this stuff was produced, it was all monitored in a professional environment - more so than it might be today, even.
No doubt there will be a few other responses - I don't think that the foregoing is anything like complete, but is at least a start.

  • Using Sony's PS-LX300USB turntable with my iMac

Is there a software that would allow me to use Sony's PS-LX300USB turntable on my Mid-2011 iMac w/ iOS 10.8? It comes with Sound Forge's s/w which is PC  only. Thanks

    Yes, and No!
Lightroom won't allow you to use IDC on the Raw file, Lightroom only allows ACRaw to be used to "develop" a raw file. However, you can use Lightroom's ranking and review functions to help you decide which files you want to work with. Then right click and select show in explorer. Then select the file you want to develop, and tell Explorer to open in IDC. You then can develop, save as a Tiff and import.
Pain in the Arse isn't it?
Frankly if you have access to Bridge then this is faster and more convenient. Import the ARW and use IDC to make Tiffs.
But why do you want to do this?
Frankly DRO only becomes special when you use DRO Advanced. Anything else can be easily duplicated in Lightroom. DRO Advanced can not be done by IDC,(it's like Lightzone on Steroids) it's done by the camera, the processor looks at each pixel and compares it with adjacent pixels and makes adjustments in the jpg. So the only way to utilise DRO Advanced (and it's astonishing what is achieved) is to shoot in Jpg (and probably in cRaw + Jpeg) I shoot everything in cRaw only but have a MR setting to utilise DRO Advanced - cRaw + Jpeg, ISO 200 (remember that DRO advanced effectively locally amplifies the pixels, so if you start at say ISO 800 certain pixels could be amplified to ISO 6400!
I can then import both the cRaw and the Jpeg.
    Hope this makes sense.

  • I have an imac 21.5" running Mavericks. I'm trying toConverting vinyl to turntable connected to a SonyDVMC-DA2 media converter which id connected to a Thunderbolt port via firewire adapter. No luck converting. Help!

I have an imac 21.5' running mavericks. Converting vinyl to digital. My turntable connects to a Sony DVMC-DA2 media converter which connects to the imac with a thunderbolt firewire adapter. When I try to import media I get a faint music sound but no files download. Help!

The DVCM-DA2 does not have a phono input, so is unable to work from a turntable (not enough gain, and no RIAA equalization, both of which are required for Vinyl)
You will need a converter that has a phono input (to the RIAA standard)

  • Turntable assembly instructions for PS-LX300USB phonograph

I just bought a Sony PS-LX300USB phonograph turntable which requires some initial assembly. I'm confused and having trouble with step number 1 on page 5 of the operating instructions manual. All it says is move the metallic parts inside the larger gear in the direction of the arrow shown in the diagram. As far as I can tell these metallic parts simply pivit inwards and then spring out back to there original position again which accomplishes nothing. So does anyone know exactly what it is I'm suspose to be doing or accomplishing here. Right now I'm frustrated with the lack of information as to the why and how! If anyone can clarify this step for me please do! Thanks!

  • Vinyl records to itunes via USB turntable

I have a Sony USB turntable which I am trying to use to convert some old albums of mine to songs playable on iTunes.
I have figured out a way to do it, but it seems awful tedious, as I have to record the songs as a track in Garageband, then save it and convert to an mp4, then import into my itunes library.
It works, but I must record one song at a time to keep them separate (if I record one side of an album, it records as one song).
I'm thinking there must be some Mac-compatible software out there that would simplify the process, and allow me to separate the tracks.
Also, does anyone have experience with this process as far as which settings to use?
Should I save the garageband track first as a garageband file, and if so, can I save at the compressed "small" size to save space on my HD, or will I sacrifice too much quality.
Again, I've been able to accomplish the task, but it seems a bit awkward and I could use some pointers.
I am running Snow Leopard on the G5 computer I am using with the USB turntable, but I also have a Macbook Pro running Lion if that would do a better job.
    thanks

I am trying to digitize some LP albums and when I plug the turntable into a USB port, I get a noticeable high pitched whine. I hear the whine as I listen to the USB port through my speakers AND it also appears in the final MP3s I am creating and importing into iTunes.
