SONY PVM 14L4 not recognised via firewire

Hi to all,
I've rented a sony PVM 14L4 monitor for color correction that i'm trying to hook up to my dual G4 via firewire. FCP 5 doesn't seem to recognise it. I don't have the manual and am wondering if it is possible to hook it up directly through one of the computer's firewire ports...
Anyone familiar with this?
Thanks for your help...
Tee.

You can not hook up the monitor directly unless there is some sort of firewire board added in. If there is not one, you need a Digital Video/Analog converter between the computer and the monitor. This can be a DV camera, a DV VTR or a dedicated device such as the Canopus ADVC-300.
It works like this: firewire out to the DV/A converter then composite or S-VHS to the monitor. There is a section about how to do this in your manuals.
good luck.

  • 60G iPod Photo Not Booting via Firewire

I cloned my hard drive to my iPod for backup, but it will not boot via firewire. I can select it in my Startup Disk control panel, so it's seeing the system. It used to work. Anyone else having problems booting? I'm wondering if this last updater broke the ability to boot via firewire.

    Which iPod do you have?

  • Samsung LA32B530 Not Recognised via Mini Display Port

    Hi,
Tried connecting a Samsung LA32B530 LCD Screen to my MBP. The Screen is not recognised by the system. The screen is connected via the Mini Display Port to DVI adapter and from there via a DVI to HDMI cable. Screen on flickers blue when I plug the screen in but no signal recognised by screen and the screen is not recognised in the control panel.
The MBP is connected to the screen via the HDMI1 port which is said by Samsung to be used with a DVI to HDMI cables.
    Any suggestions?

Try a PRAM and SMC Reset

    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3964  for SMC
If you have selected and switched to  the correct HDMI ports with your TV Controller
    Then try another lead.

  • LaCie HD does not mount via Firewire, but does via USB (in Tiger)

I've read various posts on issues people faced when using a LaCie firewire HD after upgrading to Tiger. I never had any issues pre upgrade. I have installed the new firmware on my d2 250GB drive, at least I think I have. The drive will not mount when connected via firewire, but will when connected via USB. When I try running the update tool, it sees the drive and says there is no update available. Just to be clear, this is when the drive is connected via USB. The tool does not see the drive when connected via Firewire.
My firewire is definitely working fine (tested with iSight).
I've emailed LaCie, we'll see if that leads to anything. Any ideas???

My Lacie ethernet mini is not working after Lion upgrade.
Finally got an admission from Lacie that the login software won't work with 10.7 and they suggested going back to Snow Leopard . . .
Apparently the login software cannot be changed or overwritten so now Lacie drives are obsolete when using Lion.
I wish there was a way to wipe it clean and use it without the login software, but they couldn't suggest a way.
I note you may have had better luck but I don't know how to use terminal, so I may have to junk it, or possibly take out the drive and buy a caddy for it?

  • My apple Id is not recognised via my iphone.

    Jun 13, 2011 2:03 AM
An application 'Find my iphone' was downloaded and installed. To access the app for the 1st time my phone calls for Apple ID and password. Error message: This input is not recognised. Apple sign on and id etc for itunes etc etc works fine.
    grateful for some comments  MikeS

You can't sign into iCloud using your Apple ID on a PC, you have to sign in with an existing iCloud ID.  You have to first create your iCloud account on an iOS device or Mac.  Then you can sign in with the ID on your PC.

  • Sony Handycam and MacBook Pro via Firewire 800

    Hi there,
I'm trying to connect my Sony Handycam (HC30E) to my MacBook Pro via the Firewire 800 port, but it simply won't register.
I bought a cable online that goes from my Sony (iLink) to the Firewire 800 port, so connecivity should be sound - but nothing at all is registering on the Mac.
I've updated all apps and Snow Leopard to the latest builds. Does anyone have any ideas?
    Cheers!

    On paper, NO.
800 is back compatible with 400 and it should work fine.
On the forums a few users have ended up in your situation.
The common denominator is 800 ports on newer Macs.
Still don't know for sure what the trouble really is.
I suspect dodgey cables not pinned out properly.
If your cable is at the budget end of the market I'd suggest trying one at the quality end. Shielded and OFC style.
If the System Profiler can't see the camera then nothing else matters until it does.

  • External drive not connecting via firewire thunderbolt

I have a iMac at home and at work. This external drive connected via a thunderbolt/firewire adapter yesterday on my work iMac. When I try to connect on my home iMac it does not work. This drive is powered by the cable and I read that that is a problem but my trouble is that it did work on my work iMac yesterday but will not work on my home iMac today. I am using different adapters, is that the trouble? These macs are the same machine, one has more storage but otherwise the same.

I was thinking it might be an issue with the drive needing too much bus power. On the newer iMacs, USB provides higher bus power than FireWire. That might still be the issue, even if the drives supply their own power.
Just one Firewire port on my iMac.
I think it has two, but one is FireWire 400 and one is FireWire 800. So you only have one device plugged into those two ports?

  • External hard Drive will not mount via firewire tpo my Powerbook G4

I have a Powerbook G4 1.5, 2 Gb Ram and an 80 Gb Hard Drive. Well my problem is, I went and purchased a Western Digital External Hard Drive. The box states that this hard drive is compatible for both Windows and Mac. But for some reason I can't get the external hard drive to mount via the firewire. However it will mount by using the USB.
So can someone please provide some troubleshooting tips on how I can get this external hard drive to mount?
    Thanks

    hi there,
in your case, your drive is probably bad because the copy was interrupted. your hard drive may be finished, but more likely, just the file structure is damaged and/or you have bad sectors.
    you have a few options:
*if you don't need the data back:*
    • see if the drive appears in disk utility and try to erase/reformat (make sure to zero out data to avoid bad sectors)
    • if it doesn't appear, try a pc. it won't recognize it, but it may allow you to reformat/initialize it. then, connect back into mac (which will recognize a pc formatted drive) and reformat as mac os x extended (journaled).
*if you need the data back:*
    • try a program like data rescue II, file salvage, or boomerang data recovery first to recover the data
    • see if the drive appears in disk utility and try to repair disk
    • if that doesn't work, try disk warrior and/or drive genius
    • if you aren't successful, you may want to try a professional data recovery service (or me first, to ensure that you actually need someone as high tech as drive savers)
    • if you are successful and are able to recover the data, then erase the drive (zero out data) and then move the data back, to ensure you're working off a well formatted drive.
fyi, if your computer freezes in the future, be sure to try appleoptionesc first and force quitting the problem application. if that doesn't work, try controloption+appleeject (shutdown) and/or optionappleeject (restart). if those doesn't work, in this situation, the next best move would probably have been turning off the power on the hard drive. if that doesn't unfreeze the system in a few minutes, then hold the power button.
    hope this helps,

  • I have an iPod touch 4th generation and have tried to connect it to my Sony BDV-E970W blu-ray player. The player does not recognise the iPod. What can I do to fix this?

I have an iPod Touch 4th gen player and cannot connect to a Sony blu-ray BDV-E970W player. Sony system does not recognise the iPod. Do I need to link the Sony to the net and upgrade the software on the dvd player?

As the other replier said, contact Sony. It may not be compatible with the iPod.

  • HDV via FireWire output not available

After editing an HDV50i project in a HDV50i timeline I would like to print it to video. Under "View -> Video Playback" all the HDV options are gray! I cannot select them. Consequently I cannot play the video through the FireWire output. In "Easy Setup" all possible codecs are there and I can choose them (DV, HDV, ProRes, DVCPro etc.etc.). When I startup FCP my Sony Z7 is already attached via FireWire. What's going wrong?

You can't play back HDV through FireWire. The video stream has to be conformed because of the MPEG-2 format. You can print to video. To see your output on a monitor you'd need to get a Matrox MXO2 box.

  • No Videout via Firewire or my AJA IO LA

    Hi,
i just don`t get any videoout over my aja IO La.
In FCP there is no broblem.
But in color i see the selectable Formats for Firewire and AJA io, but i can´t select them.
Video out is really inportant for Color correction.
so , how i get this done.

You need to have a dedicated pci based video card such as those products made by Aja and Blackmagic Designs. It's in the Color setup guide that Color will not preview via firewire. Therefore Macs with no expansion capabilities will obviously have no external preview option.
For your MacBook Pro, you need to have an expansion chassis such as this Magma box to mount the video card within: http://www.magma.com/products/

  • Problem importing video from a DV camera into the new imovie 10.0?  I have a Sony DCR TRV17 connected via Firewire port that worked in 9.0.9 but not under 10.0...

I have a Sony DCR TRV17 that I used to pass through VCR tape video via Firewire port to my Mac Pro under Imovie 9.0.9 without an issue.   Now under Imovie 10.0 the video shows in the import window, I can start recording yet when I stop recording the recorded clips do not show up anywhere.  The movie file I'm creating still indicates that I still need to import video.   Anyone having similar problems?

    Hey Dave,
I had this issue only once before but was lucky enought to find it was a specific event causing the import to freeze. It took me some time to isolate the problem though. I would recommend letting it sit there for some time before you try any troubleshooting. Larger libraries can take long periods of time to update.
This is a good thread for this issue.  I would first try removing the iMovie.plist as elikness mentions.
    1. Open Finder
    2. Click on "Go" in the menu bar.
    3. Click on Go To Folder on the dropdown menu.
    4. Type "~/Library/Preferences/" in the text field and click Go.
    5. Find the com.apple.iMovie(some number).plist file and move it to Trash.
Quit and relaunch iMovie to see if this took care of the issue before attempting the next step. If you're still having an issue then you can try what I needed to do which is isolating the problem event.
    1. Open Finder.
    2. Go to the Movies folder. You should see iMovie Events here.
If you have a larger event library I'd recommend renaming the iMovie Events folder to say, "iMovie Events COPY". Then create a new empty folder named “iMovie Events”. When you launch iMovie 9.0.9 all events will be missing at this point. Quit iMovie if it is open. Then you can either drag each event from iMovie Events COPY to iMovie Events or you can select and drag several at a time. Each time you drag an event folder back into the new iMovie Events folder launch iMovie 9.0.9 to see if you are having the same issue. Wash and repeat until either you have found the problem event or you have imported all events.
If you find the problem event you can reimport the clip from iMovie 9.0.9 by going to File > Import > Movies and navigating to that events iMovie Original Movies folder to find the clip.
    Hope this helps!

    tyler57,
it would be better to direct that question to Gary Loftis, since my MacBook Pro doesn’t have a Thunderbolt port.
