Sony RX100 Hot Shoe and Flash Frustration!

I have been a loyal Sony RX100 user since the first model came out. I have not been able to upgrade past the RX100 ii thanks to the missing hot shoe. I was told at the Sony Store that it was removed because customers are more interested in the viewfinder than adding a stronger flash. I think this is such a great camera ruined by its weak built-in flash, and I'd really like to see this added. I am so upset that the latest RX100 m4 is missing the hot shoe again! Does anyone have an update on this, is it ever going to come back? Speaking of flashes, I've gone through 3 Sony HVL-F20M flashes due to poor design. The flash breaks in the exact same spot with the smallest drop. I love this flash for my rx100 M2, but I feel that the design is in dire need of an update.

Hi sonyluvr
We're sorry to hear your frustrations regarding the RX100 series cameras.
We value your feedback and we will forward your request to the engineering department for future product developments.
Thanks for bringing this to our attention. -Anthony

Sony RAW and JPEG files unsupported by Aperture 3....help please Sony rx100 m3

Are you trying to import RAW&JPEG pairs?  Try to set the Import settings in the Import panel to import with the JPEG selected as the original file.
If that does not work, try to import JPEG files only.
Are you still getting the error message?

  • Anyone else seeing distortion on raw Sony RX100 images again?

This issue has occurred at least twice since the Sony RX100 came out, and has been fixed twice, but now I seem to be experiencing it a THIRD time. Is it just me, or is this happening to anyone else again-again-again?
I'm running the latest Mavericks, the latest iPhoto, and whatever the current version of Camera RAW is as of June 2014. I don't know exactly when this "happened" because I haven't edited much in the past month or two, but what I'm seeing is that my raw images from my RX100 are randomly displaying distorted (as if the lens data is being interpreted incorrectly) either in view mode, editing mode, or both. The thumbnail view is always correct...which is the dead giveaway that something is amiss and the images are in fact showing up "wrong."
If nobody else is seeing this, I'll just make sure my library is safely backed up and wipe my notebook completely and see if I can fix it. However if others are seeing this please chime in so we'll all know we're not crazy and so we can collaborate on getting Apple made well aware that this has somehow broken yet one more time...

It's super frustrating too, because the editing window comes up correctly at first...but after about a second the image stretches out and looks all wonky.
Try, if reprocessing the RAW files will help.
Export one of the distorted files (File > EXport, Kind Originial), and then reimport it.
That should reprocess the original RAW file, using the reinstalled RAW support.
Can you now edit the file?  If yes, back up your iPhoto library and try, if rebuilding the library will reprocess all RAW files.

  • Adobe Bridge CS6 (Mac) won't open .arw files from my Sony RX100. How do I get and install the right version of Camera Raw?

Adobe Bridge CS6 (Mac) won't open .arw files from my Sony RX100. I was told to update Camera Raw to at least 7.2. I tried to download this but got a DNG Converter instead. Where is Camera Raw? (it does not show up in a search of my hard drive. There is a folder of camera profiles but no extension or plug-in with this name). How do I find out what version I have already? How do I get the correct version?  . . . OR . . . is it the case that Bridge will never open Sony raw files directly and I will have to do a separate conversion process every time I want to use a raw file??. Can someone explain this?
    Thanks.

    How to update Camera Raw

  • I have a sony rx100 and my version of lightroom (4) will not recognize the raw (.ARW) files. Please help!

I have a sony rx100 and my version of lightroom (4) will not recognize the raw (.ARW) files. Please help!

I have version 4.4.1 on my computer now, which is functioning properly - but does not read the .ARW files. When I download the link you sent and try to open it, it pops up as version 5 and I get this image (attached). This is my first time in one of these threads, not sure if i have to reply to each of you individually?
DdeGannes, could you please tell me how to recover the serial number from my operating system?
    Thank you SO much everyone!

  • I have Elements 11 (and Lightroom). I just bot a SONY   RX100-II camera.

I tried to load the photos shot in RAW, but nada. I need to know how to get the program I need so that I can use Elements 11 and Lightroom with this camera, shooitng in RAW. Am leaving for Cuba in 5 days.
    [email protected]

If you update to the latest lightroom 5.2, that should open the Sony RX100-II files.
Unfortunatly pse11 can only use up to camera raw 7.4 and your files require camera raw 8.2
Photoshop elements 12 is able to update to camera raw 8.2 though.

  • Sony RX100 and Lightroom 4.3

Hi, I recently bought a sony rx100 and have downloaded lightroom 4.3 trial version so that I can work with the raw images.  When I try to read the files off the sd card, lightroom doesn't see them.  I've had to use the sony raw converter so that lightroom can recognise them.  Is this the way to go?  Am I doing something wrong?
    I'd appreciate any assistance.

I've uninstalled LR 4.3 and installed trial version of LR 4.2 and the same problem.
    Why did you do that?
I cannot vouchsafe how the Sony RX100 has worked with LR4.2, since I own mine only since 4.3
Works like a charm, like for c Frans w.
Why did you mention .ORF as raw file type in your post #2? The Sony RX100 has .ARW as raw file type. Did the Sony converter display .ARW as .ORF?
For pragmatic reasons I would suggest that you install 4.3 (BTW there is no trial version: the download is always the full package. It will just stop running after 30 days unless a valid serial no. will be entered.), enter your serial number and use it with your camera.

The Sony RX100 is not in the drop down list - Sony appears, but only with 4 available lenses, none of which are on the RX100.
    Any suggestions?
    Pulling my hair out.
    Thank you.
You are perhaps talking of the lens profiles. Here my experience differs from c Frans w:
Default does not auto-recognize, I have to enter the Make as "Sony", but then I get a recognition for "Sony E16-50mm F3.5-5.6 OSS".
Lens profiles are something different from supporting a camera and its raw file type (= LR being able to read .ARW).
Adobe may add further lens profiles, or some other people might create, actually using this camera.
I do not always need to apply a lens profile, since I consider the barrel distortion without one not too bad as long as it is not an architectural shot.

  • Sony RX100 Raw in Lightroom 4?

Has Adobe published anything in LR4 to handle raw files from Sony RX100?

I have Canons and I got the RX100 as a pocket point-and-shoot. It does a great job for that, a good solid all-around P&S camera. I find the low-light settings a bit frustrating, but in a very low-light situation I just set it on manual at a high shutter speed and get some pictures that I'm very happy about.

  • Hot shoe use in Manual mode.

I need a canon camera that allows the hot shoe to work in Manual mode.  Which camera(s) do I need?

I'm not sure what you are really asking but all Canon cameras will allow you to do this (those that have a hot shoe).  The Canon DSLR (I'm not real familiar with the point and shoots) and compatible flash will allow ETTL flash operation in manual mode, automatically fork out the right amount of light for your manual setting.

  • Sony RX100: quality of RAW conversions in LR 4.2 RC

    Hi,
I've just purchased a Sony RX100 as a replacement for an aging Canon S90. Before that I've tried the fantastic Olympus OM-D (but returned it because of a - for me - serious issue with the Sony-sourced sensor, see here http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/readflat.asp?forum=1008&message=42126356 and because the support for camera calibration profiles in LR was non-existing). I'm happy to concede that I'm spoiled by the fantastic support LR provides for my D700 and even, S90 RAW images...
So with that background I've approached the RX100 images with a healty portion of scepticism. What I've found surprised me:
    1) the standard Adobe Standard camera calibration setting gave the best results, the other profiles gave strange (magenta) color casts, especially with direct sun light.
    2) I've found that images taken in parallel with my old S90 to give much nicer colors (though of course with a lot less resolution and more noise) - but again the colors looked much nicer, especially skies, greenery etc. I've also noted (and this was also present with the OM-D images) that the Sony image conversions has a touch too much red tint, which I had to correct manually (this doesn't happen with D700 and S90 images).
So, I'd like to post my first impressions here for comments ;-)
Did anybody else have similar results? Maybe I did something wrong?

Is the DNG opened in PS as a normal picture (not in the ACR dialoge!) with the title "xyz.DNG"? If that is the case, it is actually correct. When LR detects a compatible ACR (which happened after you installed ACR 6.7), it will pass the raw/DNG directly to PS without rendering a TIFF on its own. The file name indicated by photoshop is the original raw/DNG file then.
When you save the picture in photoshop, it will create the actual image file using the file type and other options (color space, bit depth...) you configured in Lightroom. So the outcome of the whole "edit in..." action is exactly what you want, with Photoshop creating the image file at the time you save it.
P.S. What happened before updating to ACR 6.7 was that probably sometimes before, the ACR compatibility warning dialog appeared and you chose "render using lightroom", causing LR to produce the TIFF file on its own and Photoshop to load that TIFF file, and consequently also displaying "xyz.TIFF". Now that LR considers ACR 6.7 as compatible, that behaviour is replaced with the new behaviour as described above - and the warning dialog no longer appears.

  • Ipod isn't recognized by the computer, and flashs white every 10 seconds

Well upon turning on my 5th generation 30gb ipod video, instead of showing its menu, all it does is flash white for less than second and then go turn black. Since then, it hasn't stopped. My ipod has basically become a broken strobe-light/paper weight.
With that said, yes I have tried restarting it, yes I tried again, yes I tried while plugged up to a power source, and no I can't restore it as it doesn't even show up on itunes anymore.
I'm assuming this thing has bit the dust, just as my last 3 ipods did as well. But if someone does have some sort of fix for this thing, please let me know.
Also, I ask of you guys to try to explain to me why I should keep on dropping 250 dollars on an ipod almost every year, as they seem to not be not holding up very well. I all ever do is use them on my cars stereo system, my 360, or my ps3, its not like I'm abusing them or anything. Its just normal use. 1000 dollars later, Sony's new Walkman and Microsofts Zune are really starting to look much more tempting as I have really lost faith in Apple with my time with them.

My 80GB iPod video 5th generation is doing something very similar.
Please see my post earlier today.
Hope there is an answer to the problem.
    Mine is definitely not abused.
I let the battery go quite flat since my post and it did tell me that it had low battery, please wait, but now it is back to "tick, tick, peeoew".

  • Raw File update: how to open Sony RX100 III files in CS5?

I cannot download updates for CS5 Extended for Sony Raw.
How can I update my Photoshop CS5 Extended to permit it to handle Raw files from my Sony RX100 III on my Mac?

Camera Raw plug-in | Supported cameras
    Camera Raw-compatible Adobe applications
The RX100 III was first supported in Camera Raw 8.5 which is only compatible with CS6 and later.
So there is no Camera Raw plugin for CS5 which will open Raw files from that camera.
    Options:
    1. Upgrade to CS6
    2. Join the Cloud
    3. Free option: download the Adobe DNG Converter, convert all RX100 III Raw files to DNG format then edit the DNG files in CS5 Photoshop Help | Digital Negative (DNG)

  • Lack supporting Sony RX100 II in Adobe Camera RAW

Please, integrate full support Sony RX100 & RX100 II to Adobe Camera RAW. This is a very good and expensive cameras. I replace my Nikon D5100 with Sony RX100 II, and second gives better quality despite very small size. But support in Camera RAW limited to opening ARW files — there are no lens profiles for this cameras: automatic correction of chromatic aberration, distortion and vignetting does not work.

    Hi,
That specific camera doesn't seem supported as far as lens correction profiles in the latest camera raw 8.2 in photoshop cs6/cc, but you could download the
the Adobe Lens Profile Downloader and search for one.
    http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop/extend.displayTab2.html
The best match i could find is for the Sony RX100, so you can try them and see if they are satisfactory.
After you download the profile(s), they should show up in camera raw.

  • The constant update of Java and Flash in a managed account

First off sorry if this question has been answered, I had tried a search and could not find it.  I have a lab of machines (Maverick with managed accounts) that uses Jar files and Flash applets that are downloaded to the desktop.  I would update the machines on a Friday for these internet plugins.  But then another update, either Flash or Java, will roll on the weekend and the browser is useless on Monday because Safari refuses to load the jar file or flash applet and Firefox will download corrupt jar files.  So the students cannot just use one browser.  I would prefer Firefox since it is more forgiving on the flash and allows me to have time till the end of the week to update but now there is an issue of the jar.  How can I make it that the java console and Flash will automatically update in the managed account or allow the person to update only these applications and it would not matter which browser is used?  Is there a way to use Automator for this, I have a feeling it is a no but I want to be sure?  Or is there a way on the firewall to prevent it from checking in the browser for the updates?  This is a little frustrating for there seems to be an update more then two or three times in a month and rendering the machine useless for lab.

(Released 4/16/2014) Flash Player 13.0.0.201 (Mac only) (44.67 MB)
That has the fixed Flash 13.0.0.201 plug-in and the debugger. in it. You just need to run the regular installer from that zip file.

  • FCX 1.5 MX and Flash 8

    Hello,
I was searching about this, but until now I found no
    sufficient or clear answer.....
Which communication component set ( and where can you
download them ) can be used to develop for FCS 1.5 in Flash 8 Pro ?
I'd like to use the AVPresence, Chat, etc..... This is a
serious request, not targeting to get the answer "It is better to
code them yourself" . The fact is, that it is necessary to know
about the compatibility. So please be kind and try to clear or
explain the circumstances to me. I'd like to start coding but feel
blocked by the simple question which components (FCS V1, V2 or FMS)
    I should install.
    Thanks in advantage
    MIBtwo

I'd like you to correct me if I am wrong, but it seems that
the "new" fcs2 components available from
    http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flashmediaserver/articles/components.html
are dated from June 2002. (Version info of AVPresence shows Version
    d20, 06.28.2002 for example)
They seem to be older than the "latest" MX 2004 Communication
Components that I have found on my Harddisk (Version info of
AVPresence shows Version d23, 02.22.2003 there)
So ,there is no AS2 compatibility to assume with the
fc2_components and some glitches reported by other people make this
assumtion seem to be reality (see problems with "SimpleConnect" and
"VideoConference" reported in several other threads).
I found no tech. Info, releasenote or anything official
pointing out the limitations to AS1 and the problems with deploying
to FP > 6. The only source of information is here in the forum.
It is annoying, time consuming and does not help in customer
satisfaction (just my opinion) that Adobe does not keep in track
with it's own products. How is it to explain that Adobe/MM putsold
soles on new shoes, as it seems to me ?
Both, FMS and Flash 8, are good and well established
Products. But (again I just state my opinion) when a company offers
an enrichment ( I still see the CommComponents in that light) for
an expensive product, it should be supported, documented,
maintained and updated in the same manner as the product itself. Or
they should let it be, because all what they cause is confusion
    when things are not documented.
I would be glad, if I am wrong with what it seems to me.
Maybe I missed something and somebody can correct my statements
    (nobody is perfect).
The (sad) result of my investigation is :
    - NO AS 2.0 compatibility,
    - Problems when deploying to FP > 6 bec. of depricated
    statements
    - partial decreased functionality of fms2_components compared
to other Versions of CommComponents (MX 2004 Components)
    - NO docu regarding to limitations or technical info about
    compatibility.
Conclusion is (as JayCharles mentioned in a former post) :
Best is not to use the predefined CommunicationComponents.
As long as Adobe does not change them to support AS 2 and the
actual FP Versions I agree to JayCharles statement.
