Sony RX100 Raw in Lightroom 4?

Has Adobe published anything in LR4 to handle raw files from Sony RX100?

I have Canons and I got the RX100 as a pocket point-and-shoot. It does a great job for that, a good solid all-around P&S camera. I find the low-light settings a bit frustrating, but in a very low-light situation I just set it on manual at a high shutter speed and get some pictures that I'm very happy about.

  • Sony RX100 raw files converted with DNG converter not recognizable

Since  installing Maverick 10.9.4 on the Mac, Sony RX100 raw files converted with DNG converter are no more recognizable.
    Somebody else the same problem?

I know my DNG files themselves and the info they contain are fine. But they're not properly supported in Mavericks 10.9.4 and I don't plan on switching to Windows. A file that I converted to a DNG using Adobe software is now listed as an unrecognized file in OSX. No thumbnails, no iPhoto, no Aperture. Essentially, no support. And this is a problem. A quick search will show you people with various Sony cameras (A7, RX100 mkI and mkIII, at least) having the same problem.
No matter where the blame falls, the simple fact is that if you shoot with various Sony cameras, use Adobe software to convert the file to DNG and happen to be an OSX user, you're files are no longer compatible with OSX or Apple's photo software. They will only open in Adobe software. You literally get a warning message from OSX saying, this is an unsupported file type when you try and open it.
Like I said previously, I've had a managed iPhoto library for about 5 years now, numerous hours of tagging and organzing, and every DNG file converted from a Sony ARW RAW is currently unsupported. Original ARW files work just fine. It's nuts. Maybe it's Adobe's fault. Maybe it's Apple's fault. It really doesn't matter. If DNG is not a reliable standard format under certain edge cases (Sony ARW, DNG converter, OSX Mavericks), it's not a reliable standard format at all. I just hope that Apple or Adobe figures this out, so that I can get those photos back.
In the mean time, certain users such as myself just can't rely on DNG. End of story.

  • Sony rx100 raw plug in

As far as I can tell the Aperture plug in for the Sony RX100 has not been released yet.
Would the first person to discover its release, please post. I've put the camera away, awaiting the plug-in's arrival. The available raw converters are just too clunky.
    thanks so much,
    Roger

If you are really running 10.4 - which I doubt, you won't be able to use it anyway.
You can always shoot RAW+JPEG and take advantage of RAW when update is released.

  • Does LR5 support Sony RX100 raw files?

I'm currently using LR3 and I will upgrade to 5 if it supports the RAW files. I want to try to avoid using the Sony raw file converter if possible. Thank you!

It supports RX100, RX100M2 and RX100M3 with the latest version 5.5, although there needs to be a fix for the RX100 M3 at ISO125 ... it is a little dark.

  • Sony RX100 RAW in Aperture

    Please help....
Just got the stunning RX100 and upon return from holidays have downloaded the photos into on my new Retina Macbook using Aperture.
All goes well with import and I see the thumbnails, but once I click on the photo to enlarge it I get the unsupported image format message and image turns black....
What I am doing wrong? I have the latest version of Aperture 3.4.3.
    Please help!!!! Thanks.

Try go install the latest version of the raw support, it contains the support for your camera.

P.S. If you cannot install the raw update, check the build number of your MacOS X version im the "About this Mac" panel in the Apple Menu. On some macs the new update refuses to be installed and you have to patch the build number, see this thread for solutions:

  • PSE10 Sony Rx100 RAW

Would it be possible to update the PSE10 Raw to level ACR 7.2 to use the RAW from Sony RX100

No it's not possible to update pse 10 to camera raw 7.2.
You could use the 7.2 DNG Converter to convert your files to dng copies which will then open in pse 10.
Windows download click here DNG Converter 7.2
Mac download click here DNG Converter 7.2

  • HT200199 Can't import 1080i60 files from Sony RX100. Anyone know why?

I've shot AVCHD 1080p60 and 1080i60 movies and either do not show up. Even though it's written that 1080i60 files should be recognized. Maybe the support for the RX100 is still be worked on. I know Aperture and Lightroom don't support Sony RX100 RAW yet either.

That camera is so new that you're just going to have to wait for RAW support. Your option, in the meantime, is to use the Camera Raw conversion.

I have a sony rx100 and my version of lightroom (4) will not recognize the raw (.ARW) files. Please help!

I have version 4.4.1 on my computer now, which is functioning properly - but does not read the .ARW files. When I download the link you sent and try to open it, it pops up as version 5 and I get this image (attached). This is my first time in one of these threads, not sure if i have to reply to each of you individually?
DdeGannes, could you please tell me how to recover the serial number from my operating system?

  • Sony RX100: quality of RAW conversions in LR 4.2 RC

    Hi,
I've just purchased a Sony RX100 as a replacement for an aging Canon S90. Before that I've tried the fantastic Olympus OM-D (but returned it because of a - for me - serious issue with the Sony-sourced sensor, see here http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/readflat.asp?forum=1008&message=42126356 and because the support for camera calibration profiles in LR was non-existing). I'm happy to concede that I'm spoiled by the fantastic support LR provides for my D700 and even, S90 RAW images...
So with that background I've approached the RX100 images with a healty portion of scepticism. What I've found surprised me:
    1) the standard Adobe Standard camera calibration setting gave the best results, the other profiles gave strange (magenta) color casts, especially with direct sun light.
    2) I've found that images taken in parallel with my old S90 to give much nicer colors (though of course with a lot less resolution and more noise) - but again the colors looked much nicer, especially skies, greenery etc. I've also noted (and this was also present with the OM-D images) that the Sony image conversions has a touch too much red tint, which I had to correct manually (this doesn't happen with D700 and S90 images).
So, I'd like to post my first impressions here for comments ;-)
Did anybody else have similar results? Maybe I did something wrong?

Is the DNG opened in PS as a normal picture (not in the ACR dialoge!) with the title "xyz.DNG"? If that is the case, it is actually correct. When LR detects a compatible ACR (which happened after you installed ACR 6.7), it will pass the raw/DNG directly to PS without rendering a TIFF on its own. The file name indicated by photoshop is the original raw/DNG file then.
When you save the picture in photoshop, it will create the actual image file using the file type and other options (color space, bit depth...) you configured in Lightroom. So the outcome of the whole "edit in..." action is exactly what you want, with Photoshop creating the image file at the time you save it.
P.S. What happened before updating to ACR 6.7 was that probably sometimes before, the ACR compatibility warning dialog appeared and you chose "render using lightroom", causing LR to produce the TIFF file on its own and Photoshop to load that TIFF file, and consequently also displaying "xyz.TIFF". Now that LR considers ACR 6.7 as compatible, that behaviour is replaced with the new behaviour as described above - and the warning dialog no longer appears.

Camera Raw plug-in | Supported cameras
The Sony RX100 III was first supported in Lightroom 5.5.
There will be no updates for older versions.
    So your choices:
    Upgrade to Lightroom 5, or
Download the free Adobe DNG converter, convert all Raw files from the RX100 III to DNG format then edit the DNGs in Lightroom 4.4

  • I have Elements 11 (and Lightroom). I just bot a SONY   RX100-II camera.

I tried to load the photos shot in RAW, but nada. I need to know how to get the program I need so that I can use Elements 11 and Lightroom with this camera, shooitng in RAW. Am leaving for Cuba in 5 days.

If you update to the latest lightroom 5.2, that should open the Sony RX100-II files.
Unfortunatly pse11 can only use up to camera raw 7.4 and your files require camera raw 8.2
Photoshop elements 12 is able to update to camera raw 8.2 though.

  • Lightroom 4 update for sony rx100 iii

I have lightroom 4 installed on my Mac. I recently purchased a sony rx100 III and version 4 doesn't recognize the camera and won't import images. Is there an update to version 4 that I could download to fix the problem?

Camera Raw plug-in | Supported cameras
Unfortunately, the Sony RX100 III was first supported in Lightroom 5.5.
Retrospective support is never provided meaning earlier versions will never be able to open Raw files from that camera.
    Choices:
    Upgrade to Lightroom 5.6
Join the Cloud to get Lightroom 5.6
Free option: download the Adobe DNG converter, convert all RX100 III files to DNG format then edit the DNGs in Lightroom 4

  • Sony RX100 and Lightroom 4.3

Hi, I recently bought a sony rx100 and have downloaded lightroom 4.3 trial version so that I can work with the raw images.  When I try to read the files off the sd card, lightroom doesn't see them.  I've had to use the sony raw converter so that lightroom can recognise them.  Is this the way to go?  Am I doing something wrong?
    I'd appreciate any assistance.

I've uninstalled LR 4.3 and installed trial version of LR 4.2 and the same problem.
    Why did you do that?
I cannot vouchsafe how the Sony RX100 has worked with LR4.2, since I own mine only since 4.3
Works like a charm, like for c Frans w.
Why did you mention .ORF as raw file type in your post #2? The Sony RX100 has .ARW as raw file type. Did the Sony converter display .ARW as .ORF?
For pragmatic reasons I would suggest that you install 4.3 (BTW there is no trial version: the download is always the full package. It will just stop running after 30 days unless a valid serial no. will be entered.), enter your serial number and use it with your camera.
    nixpixstix wrote:
The Sony RX100 is not in the drop down list - Sony appears, but only with 4 available lenses, none of which are on the RX100.
    Any suggestions?
    Pulling my hair out.
    Thank you.
You are perhaps talking of the lens profiles. Here my experience differs from c Frans w:
Default does not auto-recognize, I have to enter the Make as "Sony", but then I get a recognition for "Sony E16-50mm F3.5-5.6 OSS".
Lens profiles are something different from supporting a camera and its raw file type (= LR being able to read .ARW).
Adobe may add further lens profiles, or some other people might create, actually using this camera.
I do not always need to apply a lens profile, since I consider the barrel distortion without one not too bad as long as it is not an architectural shot.

  • Adobe Bridge CS6 (Mac) won't open .arw files from my Sony RX100. How do I get and install the right version of Camera Raw?

Adobe Bridge CS6 (Mac) won't open .arw files from my Sony RX100. I was told to update Camera Raw to at least 7.2. I tried to download this but got a DNG Converter instead. Where is Camera Raw? (it does not show up in a search of my hard drive. There is a folder of camera profiles but no extension or plug-in with this name). How do I find out what version I have already? How do I get the correct version?  . . . OR . . . is it the case that Bridge will never open Sony raw files directly and I will have to do a separate conversion process every time I want to use a raw file??. Can someone explain this?
    Thanks.
