Sony's new Webbie HD camera MP4

Hey folks,
Thanks for the camera help. It seems Sony has launched a compelling new HD 1080p camera and I am wondering what the experts think about it as far as whether it will easily work with FCP. The often-repeated press release says you can dump the files onto desktop folders in the Mac OS with ease; we all know that is not always the case, so just wondering what you think about it.
Thanks,
jf

Now that we have the actual model, we can look more into the cam itself. Correct me if wrong, but I thought that FCP 6.0.2 running on an Intel Mac could import AVC via the Log and Transfer window? So you need two things, first and foremost an Intel Mac. In order to do anything on a Mac with AVC, you need an Intel Mac (again I'm pretty but not 100% sure). Secondly, you'd need at least FCP 6.0.2. You said you used to do video editing, so I don't know what version you have. I took a look at the specs and it specifically says "Format : MPEG4 AVC/H.264 (MP4)" so as long as Sony hasn't messed around with making it's own implementation of AVC (I don't see why they would) then FCP 6.0.2 or iMovie '08 or later would both work with the AVC files natively. You'd need to export them from FCP to bring into DVDSP anyways, however I don't know if it would be as simple as Export->Quicktime Movie of if you'd need to go through Compressor. Anyone here work with AVC? You might be better served searching the forums (here, creative cow, etc.) for AVC workflows, and if you never find an answer to your other questions, by all means post another question here and I'm sure someone will be able to answer it, but right now AVC users don't necessarily know that this thread has turned into AVC workflows.
G'luck,
-Brian

  • Camera Connector Kit and SONY Digital camera MP4 files

Using the Camera Connector Kit I am able to copy SONY Digital camera MP4 files. I am unable to play it on the iPad. I have tested this on 4.2 and 4.3GM of iOS.
With more and more people using iPads this type of functionality should be working.

I agree. Why not formally suggest it to Apple since Apple really does not read/use posts from this forum.

  • The new Ipad and camera connection kit with Sony A65 RAW

    Hi,
I recently purchased the "new ipad" with camera connection kit. I'm shooting photos in RAW format with Sony A65 and I have succesfully transferred them into my Ipad. The problem is that none of the applications such as Snapseed, Photoforge2, etc. will display the full 24 megapixel image from the RAW file and will instead show small preview.
It is indicated in support pages of these applications that there should be support for IOS Raw engine supported RAW files with full size. Can someone indicate me what RAW formats are supported by IOS 5.1 and whether support for Sony RAW files will be added.
The same problem persists with 16 megapixel images from Sony A55.
    Thank you in advance.

Thank you, David, but actually your answer is not helpful. As I explained in my opening message, I am interested in buying and using an i-Pad while on a trip in Spain, where I will not have access to a computer, other than, perhaps, one at the Apple Store where I might buy the i-Pad.

  • Importing MP4 60 fps from new GO PRO camera

    Hello
I just bought new GO PRO camera - http://www.goprocamera.com/ - how can I import movie from it to final cut express. The is no poblem with 29.97 stuff but FCE do not recognize 59.94 fps movies.

If you use MPEG Streamclip, employ the "Export to Other Format" and create a series of still images. That will produce 60 pictures for each second. Then, when you use MPEG Streamclip to recombine the pictures into a video stream (Quicktime, etc) then set the frame rate at 30. In this way, your video will be expanded to two times is original size and half the apparent speed with all the frames included.
I have done this many times and, while it will take a little working with MPEG Streamclip to understand the order in which to do things and settings for each, its worth it. It's a great program.

  • Aperture does not support SONY's new DSLR A100!!!

Just bought a SONY's new DSLR A100 and found Aperture does not read the camera's RAW file ( *.arw ). Is there any solution for this or I can only wait until Apple issue a software update for this?

The "format" will undoubtedly be the same or very similar: where the numbers representing each pixel are stored within the file, and where the metadata is kept. But what differs is the mapping of the number values to (I'm simplifying here a bit) actual colours. Different camera models from the same manufacturer have different sensors, and these output on different scales.
What Apple (and others) have to do is work out the ratios required for a given camera model, to get the right colours. Whilst you could probably edit the properties file yourself to make Aperture and MacOS recognise the file format, you'd have to do some work to decide the correct numbers (in some cases, you can use others work - there was an explanation on this forum previously about using DCraw source to determine good starting values for an Olympus camera.)
The DSLR-A100 has a different sensor from the 5D. There's another 4MP for starters. (Actually, I just had a glance at the latest DCraw code, and it looks like the A100 raw file is treated differently from other KM and Sony cameras. So perhaps they have got a new format.)

  • Cannot open my NEF files in Photoshop CS6 from my new Nikon D800 camera.

That's it, I Cannot open my NEF files in Photoshop CS6 Camera Raw from my new Nikon D800 camera. What am I doing wrong or what is wrong? I have the plug-in Camera Raw 7. and can open TIFF files but not the NEF files.
    Peace,

    Hi ssprengel,
to explain the scenario, i am basically a D7000 user and I do post production with Windows computer. But for an assignment I have hired D800, they have provided me their SD memory card. I have used the same memory card while shooting.
I have transferred the NEF files from the camera using Nikon software. The transfer was successful but i am not able to open the Raw NEF file with ACR. Even my plugins are updated till date.
The NEF thumbnails are having small lock logo in the bottom left corner. I do not know what does that mean. Like this.
Kindly let me know what would be the prob? if my RAW files are corrupted kindly let me know how will I recover them?
    Thank you.

Hi,  I've just purchased and installed an upgrade from Lightroom 4 to 5.  It doesn't seem to handle raw files authored with a new Nikon D750 camera.  I spoke to the sales rep about this and he gave me a link to the 8.6 DNG converter page with instructions to download.  8.6 only works with Mac OS 10.7-10.9, according to the page.  I'm running Yosemite, Mac 10.10.  Please can you tell me my options?  Lightroom 4 worked beautifully with my older cameras' raw files so I would like to continue using the application.  What should I do?  How soon will Lightroom 5 be able to deal with raw files from a D750.  Many thanks, Adam.

Until the next version of Lightroom is released, you need to use the DNG Converter version 8.7RC to convert your RAW photos to DNG and then import the DNGs into Lightroom.

New Nikon Df camera RAW files not recognized in Bridge and Photoshop.  Is there a fix?  Surely Adobe make a mistake and not keep up with Nikon.

I looked at the current list http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html and did not see the Nikon DF listed.
Would post in ACR forum and see if they know anything more.  http://forums.adobe.com/community/cameraraw

I just purchased the new Canon SX60 camera. Despite downloading and installing the latest version of Adobe DNG converter, I receive an error message saying that Photoshop CS4 can't open up/convert raw files (.CR2). This is the same file format as used by the SX50, with which I never had any problem. Does anyone have a suggestion on how to fix this problem? Thanks.

Camera Raw plug-in | Supported cameras  I do not see that SX60 as supported. Just how new is the SX60 when was it announces. Its support is not even listed in ACR 8.7 RC

it would be better to direct that question to Gary Loftis, since my MacBook Pro doesn’t have a Thunderbolt port.

  • Creating a QuickTime movie with the new Canon T5i  camera in iMovie 9.0.9.

Help needed creating a QuickTime movie with the new Canon T5i  camera in iMovie 9.0.9.  The project is done and looks good...I need help understanding what settings need to be set so I can make a QuickTime movie in the highest quality that would fit the ratio of 16.9 to be sent out to my YouTube page.  I played around with some of the settings and have not come with the right setting for the video.  I want the highest quality with the lowest amount of megabytes…thanks

I would suggest using SHARE/EXPORT MOVIE and choose 1920x1080 (if your source material supports this).
That should work well in YouTube.
If you want to go further with custom QuickTime settings,  here are some that should work, but in my experience, it will be no better than using SHARE/EXPORT MOVIE.
follow the instructions below to create a .mov video that will work on YouTube:
In iMovie, select Share > Export Using QuickTime
Next, you may want to check your Options to verify that the following settings are correct:Video settings
    Compression Type: H.264
    Frame Rate: 30 is preferred. 23.98, 24, 25, 29.97 are also acceptable.
    Data Rate: Automatic
    Key Frames: Automatic
    Frame Reordering: Unchecked
    Audio/Sound settings
    Format: AAC
Click Show advanced settings and choose Constant Bit Rate as encoding strategy
    Other settings
Size: Choose the original size of the video
“Prepare for Internet Streaming”: Fast Start

I have a new Nikon D810 camera. My new iMac cannot open the NEF/RAW files from it...Anyone have any knowledge of this?

If you will take the time to send Apple feedback, they will add RAW support - when I got my Canon, it wasn't supported either. I filed feedback and, two months, later, there was an update which included my camera model.

I can't open the RAW files from my new Nikon D4s camera in photoshop? How do I download the latest software for RAW files? Cheers!

What version of Photoshop are you running?  You will need at CS5, CS6, CC or CC2014.  Each version needs a different ACR-plug-in to open files from that camera.
If you are on CS4 or earlier, you'll need to upgrade—or, in the alternative; look for, download, instal, launch and run the free, stand-alone DNG Converter 8.6 on each file of raw NEF files to convert them to raw DNGs first so you can open them in your version of Photoshop and ACR plug-in higher than 2.4.

  • Are there new updates for camera raw for Lightroom 4, or only for Lightroom 5, as in 5.3 ?

Are there new updates for camera raw for Lightroom 4, or only for Lightroom 5, as in 5.3 ?

There will be no further camera support updates for Lightroom 4 beyond what is already listed in this table.
    http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html
Only current versions of Lightroom (currently Lightroom 5.3) will have further camera support added.
If you need to work with Raw files from new cameras you'll either have to upgrade to Lightroom 5 or join the Photoshop Photography Program (to get PC CC + LR5 + extras) or convert to DNG using Adobe's free DNG converter.
