Sony sd-card read as device instead as camera

Hi, I bought a Sony HDR-PJ320E camera because of it's compatibility with imovie and fcpx.
But for some reason fcpx doens't read the private file anymore after formatting the disk.
Fcpx read the sd card as a device instead of a camera.
I think that the problem started after I reformated the sd-card in the camera to empty it.
Anyone knows about this problem.
And how can I recuperate my movie files?
Thankt a lot for helping me.
Filip Langenbick
Screenshot in FCP:

Thanks Karsten,
I'm working FCP 10.0.7
I understand what you talking about. But no way to read the SD card like the way you explain.
I'll show you 2 examples.
Card 1// 4G SD card
Card 2// 32SD card (formated the same way)
This is what I get in FCP
Card 1// Everything works fine - read as CAMERA
Card 2// Card is read as device and show content instead of movie files
I'm getting nuts about it.
Ithinks I will convert the .MTS files by Handbrake and Compressor into ProRes files.
Hope there will not be to many quality loss.
Any thanks a lot for your help,
Filip

  • Why does Sony multi-card reader show up now as a RealTek product?

I've had a Sony MRW62E/T1/181  card reader for several years. It worked fine until recently. When I plugged in the USB cord that came with it into my XP Pro SP3 computer, I got a message asking me to install a RealTek driver. To the best of my knowledge, there are no RealTek products on my PC. I've tried rebooting and deleting entries in the Device Manager. No luck. I can't get the PC to recognize the card reader, much less retrieve photos from my SanDisk Ultra III 8GB SDHC camera card I've always used. Even stranger, I can use the card reader just fine if I plug it into the Windows 7 system at work. Yes, I have the Sony drive letter software installed. I've also tried different USB ports on my PC. Tips?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Now if it’s a driver issue.
Most card readers and other USB Storage devices (ebook readers, cameras, camcorders, etc), use generic USB Win drivers.
Have you try to uninstall only the drivers of the USB Mass Storage Device?
Here is an example how to uninstall the Reader Digital Book USB drivers in the Win SO. It’s the same even for other Storage devices.
    https://us.en.kb.sony.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/32193/p/73878,73935,73936/c/65,66/kw/drivers
Then reboot PC and connect the card reader.

  • SOLVED: 1030NR - SD Card Reader launches Found New Hardware Wizard when media is inserted

I purchased the HP Mini 1000 1030NR a few days ago and have been very happy with it so far.  Last night I attempted to use the integrated SD card reader to view some photos from my digital cameras SD card.  When I inserted the card into the drive, Windows did its normal hardware initializations.  It should have detected and installed the SD Card Reader automatically, but instead I was presented with the "Found New Hardware" wizard.  Every attempt to install the driver automatically via the Wizard failed.  Every SD card I tried in the reader produced the same results.
After spending 2 and a half hours online with HP support, their eventual resolution was to do a full System Restore.  As owners of the HP Mini 1000 will know, this process is made difficult due to the units lack of a DVD-ROM drive.  Furthermore, the problem here is clearly a missing driver.  Doing a System Restore as suggested would be like swatting at a fly with a cinderblock.  It may resolve the problem, but there is a much more straightforward way.
The problem is that due to the nature of the XP installation on the 1030NR,(scaled down for performance/size reasons), the linkage between recognized hardware and the internal Windows driver respository has been broken, at least as far as USB devices are concerned.  I found this out after the same HP support technician suggested I uninstall all of my USB Root Hubs from Device Manager and reboot.  Those never came back either.  Fortunately I had created an XP restore point beforehand and quickly got my USB ports back.  Of course, my SD card reader still didn't work.
The solution is to restore that linkage between recognized hardware and the internal Windows driver repository so that the operating system can "find" the USB drivers and in turn, install the necessary software components for the SD card reader.  Instructions for doing this are as follows:
    1.  Insert an SD card into the SD card reader.  The "Found New Hardware" Wizard will appear.
    2.  Check the radio button to not allow Windows Update to search for software.  Click Next.
    3.  Check the radio button to "Install from a list or specific Location (Advanced).  Click Next.
    4.  Check the radio button to "Search For the Best Driver In These Locations.  Then click the checkbox "Include this location in the search."
    5.  Click the Browse button and navigate to "C:\Windows\inf"  If you cannot navigate to this folder you may type it in the box manually.  Click Next.
    6.  Follow the remaining on-screen prompts to complete the software driver installation.  You may receive an error code at the end indicating that the device could not start.  Disregard this for now.  Once driver installation has been completed, reboot the computer.
    7.  Once the system is back up, the "Found New Hardware" wizard will probably reappear.  If it doesn't, make sure the SD Card Reader has a card inserted in it.  Cancel the Found New Hardware wizard and click Start - Control Panel - System - Hardware tab - Device Manager and look for entries with either an exclamation point or a question mark.  You'll probably see the SD Card Reader with an exclamation point and an "Unknown Device" with a question mark.
    8.  For the SD card reader, right click on it and select "Update Driver..." from the list of options.  Follow steps 2 through 6 above to complete installation.  At the end, the card reader should be functional (you can see it in Windows Explorer, etc.) but you'll still have an "Unknown Device" in Device Manager.
    9.  To resolve the "Unknown Device", once again go to Device Manager, right click on the Unknown Device entry, click Update Driver and follow steps 2 through 6 above.
    10.  One final reboot and the SD card reader should be functional and no ? or ! warnings/errors should be present in Device Manager.
The reason for this issue in the first place is most certainly due to the way Windows XP is configured on the HP Mini 1000.  Although this solution works for the 1030NR, it should also work for models in the same family that contain the 2-in-1 SD card reader.  HP really needs to provide an official fix for this issue, preferably a "patch" that re-establishes the linkage between recognized hardware devices and the internal Windows XP driver repository.  Their official support suggestion of doing a complete System Restore to solve the problem is impractical, heavy handed, and may in fact not solve the issue.
It took me nearly 5 hours total to resolve this problem.  I hope this post saves somebody both time and trouble.

C:\Windows is the default folder for the Windows XP installation on the 1030nr.  Unless changed during installation, all PC's (not just mini's) that have XP installed will have this folder present.  As for the inf folder specifically, this is hidden from view in Windows Explorer unless you tick the option to "Show Hidden Files and Folders" from Tools - Folder Options - View tab.
Still, you shouldn't need to "see" this folder for the above instructions to work.  When running the "Found New Hardware" wizard, you can just type the path in manually at the appropriate spot.  If you truly do not have a C:\Windows\inf folder, then it sounds like something is wrong with your Windows installation and a full System Recovery may be the best option.  It might be a good idea to contact HP support first before donig that though.
Does your Mini run Windows?  If not, unfortunately the instructions I laid out above will not help you.  I believe the "other" Mini's run some HP customized version of Ubuntu Linux.  For that OS, you'll need to obtain a driver specifically for it to get the card reader working.  Try the HP site for a download for the SD card reader or contact support.

  • How do I get the SD Card Reader to work?

I have a HP HDX16 -1040US Notebook that has worked perfectly except for my SD Card Reader has stopped working and is no longer being recognized by my computer, is there anything I can do to get this working again?
    Kindest Regards,
    Safety 56
    Steve

Worth trying to remove driver first (note version number before removing) for card reader from device manager options then reboot & check in device manager & you should have an unkown device which will be the card reader.
Then download driver ( try the 2  that not same as already had)
    Hopefully it will install.
If not you need to review what maybe conflicting, simple things like security software (Norton being a top offender for problems) are worth turning off to test ...

  • Card reader error code 31

HP Pavilion p6-2016 Desktop PC :
Device Manager shows Portable Devices--Card Reader--"This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)". This SD card reader does not recognize when a card is plugged into it.
Also, my Epson Stylus NX230 will not load device driver software. Could they be related?
When I unplug my printer from the USB port & plug it back in it tries to load the driver but fails. I have unistalled & reinstalled the Epson Stylus NX230 Driver Combo Pack (epson14857.exe) and I tried just Epson Stylus NX230 Printer Driver v6.92 (epson14855.exe) to no avail.
Might I have a hardware failure as they plug into the same area on mother board. Should I just buy a PCI card with USB2 ports? I really don't use the SD card reader.

I downloaded and ran Microsoft Fix It  (MicrosoftFixit.Devices.RNP.12324536404228906.1.3.Run.exe)   and it found both of my problems:
1.) Card Reader has a driver problem.
2.) Hardware changes might not have been detected. (I think this is my printer. I uninstalled & reinstalled the printer driver when it stopped working. Epson Stylus NX230 Driver Combo Pack (epson14857.exe)).
It did not fix either problem.

  • Multi-Card Reader not working

    I have an HP a6700f
    Product Number FQ565AA#ABA
I have had Windows 8.1 Installed on it since it's been in beta and haven't had any hardware issues. BUt today i tried to put an SD card into the built in card reader and Windows doesn't even try to read it. The transfer light stays solid the entire time.
It has worked with previous verions of windows (vista, and 7) it's only with 8.1 that it's stopped.

    Hello davidfrnks7,
Welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience! To help you get the most out of the HP Forums I would like to direct your attention to the HP Forums Guide First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More. I see that your desktop is not able to read SD cards through the multi-card reader, and I would be happy to guide you towards a resolution!
According to the page for the HP Pavilion a6700f Desktop PC Drivers selection, the only drivers available are for Windows Vista and Windows 7. Without these drivers, your computer will not be able to recognize the multi-card reader.
This being the case, what you can do is to check for Windows drivers for your multi-card reader in Device Manager. To open the Device Manager, please follow this document on How do I get into Windows Device Manager? Once in Device Manager, please right-click on the multi-card adaptor and click on "install driver".
If the issue persists, you may want to refresh your Windows 8.1 back to Windows 7. To do this, please follow this document on How to refresh, reset, or restore your PC.
Please re-post with the results of your troubleshooting, and I look forward to your reply!

  • I can no longer import photos into lightroom from card reader or camera.

Just recently my Lightroom 5.3, now 5.6, has stopped allowing me to import photos from my card reader or directly from my camera. When I click the Import button, it lists the card but will not show the previews and the Import button does not become active. What is wrong?
All other modules seem to work fine.

I have the same problem. My program has worked perfectly until a few days ago.
Now the module import has the central screent in blank, empty, and not import anything.

FYI: Plugging a camera into your computer has nothing to do with using an SD card on your iPad.

  • Does anybody get USB device 054c:0281, a Sony card reader working?

    Hi,
I have a Sony SD/Memstick card reader. Its id is 054c:0281. It is plugged into my laptop's PCI-Express slot. I know it work with Ubuntu. But I do not how to get it to work with Arch. Does anybody have any idea how to set it up?

Perhaps it'd be easier to help if you describe what you've already tried and the problems you have with common methods.
Also what do you mean by "work"?  Do you want it to automount?  Do you have other media automounting?  If so what method did you use?  Does this device show up in /dev/ when it is plugged in?

  • Sony Card reader issues

    Hello,
We just purchased a MacBook Pro, 11.3 and have moved all data to new laptop and we have one issue, the Sony card reader does not work on the new laptop. The old laptop is a MacBook Pro from 2010'ish, fairly surprised that a USB device which works on one system doesnt work on another. The Sony card reader is Model MRW62E, dated 2012, I think it is USB v2.0, 5v, etc.
Is this just a case of a reader no longer working/supported by a new design?
Does someone know of a CF & SD card reader that works with the new Mac Book Pros?
    Thanks
    Erick

No software is required. What specifically are you trying to do? If connected to a camera some cameras require a setting to see the images on the camera and it does not work for all camera. If using the card in the connector it only sees photos and videos if they are in a directory titled DCIM in the root directory. Also, do you have a case? The kit connectors are large and the case can prevent proper seating of the connector in the ipad.

  • I have a Mac Mini, and it won't accept connecting my Sony video camera.  So I got a SD mem card reader to unload my movies from.  It worked the first time I used it a few months ago.  This time it says it doesn't recognize the format I am trying to use?

I have all thenecessary updates.  I have switched over from a PC to Mac back in April and have nad nothing but problems adapting.  I don't know why this worked the first time, and put my videos inti imovie, and now it doesn't recognize it at all.  And the Mem card reader does work, because I just put the SD card from my regular camera into it and it downloaded those fine, it just won't take my movies!

Which sony camera? I have a Sony HDR-CX550 right now and have been able to use the SD card as well as connect the camera directly. I also had CX110 that work too. You may want to try to copy the complete top level folder from the SD card to the Hard drive, then try to "import from Camera archive" and select that folder.

  • Device removal error.....   The card reader ejects itself

Hello, I'm new to macs and purchased a Mac Mini a week ago. Things were going well until I needed to move pictures from a digital camera to my mac.
I purchased a GE 19 in 1 card reader which is built for mac os x. I hook it up to a usb port and try and look at some pictures. After a few seconds, the card reader ejects itself and I get the "device removal" error. The error will then continue to appear over and over again. When I try to eject the reader using by clicking eject, the reader ejects and only reappears a minute later and ejects itself again. I've tried using another usb port and I know for sure that its not the cable.
If I can't get any prompt answer here, I'm going to call the Genius bar tomorrow morning and ask about the problem. <Edited by Moderator>

More often than not, when a card reader or other similar device disconnects from the USB bus because it is drawing too much power. In a card reader, that would not unusually be triggered not by the card reader itself, but by the insertion of a card causing it to read the content and mount the volume on the Mac's desktop. Part of the problem is that while everything is invariably quoted as USB compatible, many such devices don't entirely comply with the USB standard, resulting in conflicts or load demands which may be borderline, or worse.
You may be able to get more reliable performance from your reader by disconnecting other USB devices when you are trying to use it, or by using it with a powered USB hub. Occasionally, borderline problems can be temporarily resolved by connecting the device to a different port, if necessary switching devices around. Alternatively, it may be that in an attempt to produce a device with the greatest flexibility in terms of media compatibility, they have compromised on components.
I would generally recommend a card reader designed for the specific card type you need. These are typically far more reliable. If you need to use different types of card media, then be prepared to spent on a well established brand with a reputation in this sector of the market, such as SanDisk.
