Sony Tape Deck-Behringer Mixer  UB 802 interface

I'm having a problem obtaining the audio in Garage Band from the Sony Tape deck I have connected to the Behringer UB 802 mixer connected to my Mac.
On the mixer I have a jack output from the main output to the Audio line-in of the Mac.
Whats odd is that with my microphone connected to the mixer, I have no problem obtaining audio in Garage Band . The only problem I have is with the Sony Tape deck (TC-D5) trying to obtain audio. I'm using an analogue tape deck.
Thanks in advance to anyone who has any helpful insight in obtaining an audio feed in Garage Band from a tape deck via
The Behringer UB802 mixer.

Mac Pro 2.66 GHZ, 1 GB RAM, 250 GB HD Mac OS X (10.4.9) Garage Band 3, Behringer UB802 Mixer, Sony TC-D5 tape deck
Mac Pro 2.66 GHZ, 1 GB RAM, 250 GB HD   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   Garafge Band 3, Behringer mixer UB 802, Sony Tape Deck TC-D5

I have my mic/headphone combo plugged into the mic XLR connection of the Behringer mixer. I don't believe the Mac Pro has an internal microphone.
Thanks for any help on getting this going. When connected to the line input of my Sony PC I have no problem obtaining the audio feed from the tape deck that is connected to the mixer via the two RCA tape-in plugs.

  • Audio tape database + digitally controlled tape deck?

I have a client who wants to digitize his large library of cassette tapes, starting with 250 tapes of stories he has told his children. I have been searching for an OS X software product or freeware that could do the job well, which would include the ability to play the indexed audio file.
The data to be indexed would include: story, tape #, start time (tape index), and all the characters in the stories, so that one could retrieve a list of stories that contain a particular character.
Another useful thing would be a digitally controlled tape deck, but the only one I can find is for the PC only. (there are some rs232 controlled decks, but no real details on how to control them, and no info about what software, and no RS-232 interface on the mac laptop in question.)
If anyone has any ideas, or knows a better forum to post this on, please let me know,
    Thanks
    Joel

    Hey Joel,
Well first lets talk about digitizing. There are many methods, and pieces of equipment to use but you can probably learn some info from the macworld article on digitizing tapes. I assume you saw the same USB deck that I saw- The Plusdeck, and while it currently does not support OSX, hope may be on the way because in their forum they have posted a want ad for a mac developer. In terms of cataloging, personally, I would just use iTunes. You can include Name, Album, Artist, Track Number, Disc Number, Grouping, Composer, BPM, Genre, and it also includes a large comments field in the metatag. I would think you could adapt all these field to your needs. However, many database apps are available for the Macintosh. In the pro world, Filemaker Pro is a pretty accepted standard. However, pricing for it is pretty steep, at $299. Another solution which may be a little more price acceptable is EagleData, which is a freeware database app. To tell you the truth- I really don't think you want to get into RS232, but if you're really interested, we can talk about programming it and the different protocols. Hope this helps...

  • Can't preview 1920x1080 timeline on HDTV via Sony HDV deck - help!

I am trying to play back from my 1920x1080 HDTV timeline (from FCP on MacBook) on an LG HDTV by connecting to a Sony HDV deck via firewire 800, and then going out from the deck via component to the tv – however, I am having problems not being able to get a clean video signal & it seems that the deck cannot process the video stream properly.  After scouring the internet and various forums, the only conclusion that I can reach is that because the HD video needs to be processed, it is impossible to properly view the footage back via this method without something like a Blackmagic Decklink card/conversion syste.  This is quite a big problem for me, as I will probably in the future have to use the same method just to play out to tape (on the HDV deck) and no matter what settings I have tried, it just doesn't want to work!
Any hints or tips to bypass this without the need for any other external hardware?  Would something like  a Mini DVI to VGA Adapter Cable help at all – we have one of those.

FW800 can't stream full uncompressed HD video, which is what the HDTV needs.  You need an HDMI connection.  You're going to need an AJA Knoa LHi or some other such card.  You may want to look into a less expensive option such as the MXO2 if you only want to see the image on an HDTV and not on a qualified Production Monitor.
Going from FCP back to the deck is a totally different issue and not a problem.  HDV is highly compressed so it can stream via FW connection.  FCP using the Print To Tape function will take your Sequence and send a native HDV signal back to your deck, just when it captured from the deck.
HDTV will not be good enough for evaluating image quality and color correction, FYI.  It will only give you an idea of what your vide will look like on that specific brand and model of HDTV.
DVI and VGA have nothing to do with what you're trying to do.  They are only for going out to a computer monitor (not the same as a TV) or a projection system.

  • Tape deck pauzes when closing Log and Capture window

    Hello,
I've got a weird situation here. I have a Hi8 tape deck (Sony Evo 9800P) hooked up on Final Cut Pro 6 and I control it by remote.
It works great, except when I close my Log and Capture window it sets the tape deck on pauze. Even when I already stopped the tape.
It's not too bad, but I find it interesting to figure out why it does that.
Does anyone experienced this before or do you have a suggestion?
    Thanks in advance

I don't know that deck, but if it is like most sony products, you can probably change that to "stop" instead of "pause."
When you close log and capture, you are relinquishing control of the deck and it is going to its default.

  • Sony M15U Deck and 24P

    Hi,
I have a Sony M15U Deck. I was given 3 MinDV HD Tapes that were shot in 24P. I set the DEck Up to capture HD 1080i60 and a screen comes on my monitor that says "Change to Correct Format."
I have tested other tapes that were not shot in 24P and it works fine.
Can this deck Playback & Capture 24P footage in FCP 7? Am I missing a setting on the deck itself?
    Than ks in advance.

I have a Mac Pro Intel

What camera were the tapes shot with? If a Canon camera...that deck won't work.

  • USB to tape deck

Can anyone tell me where I can find help with connecting audio from an ole tape deck to the PwrBkG4 and into GarageBand or Audacity?
I want to see the cord that I need to buy for that....
    tnx,

    Hi.
One option is the iMic from Griffin.
There are many other interfaces (usually more sophisticated and complex).
    Good Luck.

  • Sony Tape-recorder GV-HD700

Does Sony tape-recorder (made for HDV 1080i) support DVCPRO HD 1080i? I always get following
    message :
"change DV-HDV setting display" on the recorder screen? Can anyone help please ? Thanks !

I'm a bit confused here with your workflow. You asked if the Sony GV-HD700 would playback DVCPro HD. I assume you recorded the DVCPro HD on your Panasonic AG-HVX200. If that's the case, you couldn't have recorded DVCPro HD to tape in that camera. It will only record DV to tape. It records DVCPro HD to P2 cards, and you'd use the Log & Transfer method in FCP to bring in the footage.
So why do you need a tape deck in the first place?
I wanted a greater quality using HD of Panasonic, believing that production would be easier than in standard HDV
You're correct. DVCPro HD is MUCH less processor intensive than HDV.
It seems DVCPRO HD is for institutions only, having unlimited resources
But you're wrong on that point.
I must sell my Panasonic AG-HVX 200,if I want to work .HD
You're wrong there also. Have you read any workflow articles on working with DVCPro HD?

  • Final Cut Pro 7 not recognizing Sony HDV Deck on older 2008 version MacPro's

I am trying to connect a Sony HDV deck to Final Cut Pro version 7 on an older 2008 version MacPro.  The problem was with the firewire mini port on the back i believe because i used a different deck which was the same model - but the only difference was it had a firewire 400 port instead of mini firewire port.  Anyway, the deck with the 400 firewire port worked for logging and capturing, etc... (this also worked when i re-tested it on the 2008 MacPro)  Im wondering if anyone else has had problems with the firewire mini port on the Sony HDV deck because it seems like almost every HDV deck i have with mini firewire has problems connecting to final cut pro or any editing application.  I know now that the deck i had in question the mini port is not working correctly but is there a way to fix this or prevent the cable - deck from terminating the connection with the mini cable being used.  I dont need an answer to the deck problem because i figured it out but just wondering if anyone has some insight on this deck problem.  Thank you...
    Kyle

    >I dont need an answer to the deck problem ... just wondering if anyone has some insight on this deck problem
So you don't want an answer, just insight. OK, I'll give it a go.  I've had several Sony VTRs with the 4pin Firewire port (proper name for what you refer to as "mini"), which is the same type of port that most DV and HDV cameras use as well.  One of the main things you need to be wary of is plugging in and unplugging a Firewire cable while either the device or the computer is powered on.  I know that marketing hype claims that Firewire is hot swap-able, but it really isn't safe to do so.  The pins in both the 4 pin connector as well as the 6 pin connectors are very close together and if they aren't aligned exactly right with the socket, can easily cause arching and damage a Firewire port on either or both ends.  Is that the kind of insight you were looking for?

  • Recording audio from a tape deck on the new iMac - Audio Input?

Hi folks, I used to have the older 2008 iMac which had an audio IN socket and also the audio OUT, but the new iMac I bought at the start of this year only has the Headphones socket, which apparently is supposed to also act as the Audio In, However I've never been able to get it to work and noticed some people online suggesting a Griffin or a Berringher device at around £30?...
I'm wondering if anyone knows do the cheaper devices on ebay for around £5, such as the basic USB Audio devices with the Input mic and headphones out socket work with the new iMac or do I specifically have to get one of the more expensive devices?
I have the Roxio Video to USB device, which uses a special Roxio application to capture the video, so I'm wondering if these devices only capture to their own specific applications or will it allow me to record through the USB to say, Garageband or one of the Adobe applications?
I'd basically like to be able to hook my tape deck up with Analogue L&R and then hook the mini audio jack into the mac and record, that's what I used to do... and the sound quality was pretty good...
Any help on this would be cool, thanks!

Thanks. Now, since Apple failed to provide an audio in jack for their new and improved iMacs (mine has one), all I can suggest is that you contact AppleCare, since you have 90-dqy free phone support. If need be, you might reconsider your purchase, but that's for you to decide.

  • Qosmio G20: Recording from tape deck to computer

My Qusmio G20 manual says the 'Monitor-in Port' functions as a 'line-in Port' for connecting an audio device. However, I have connected up my tape deck's line-out ports to the computer's 'Monitor-in Port' with the appropriate cables and jack and get no signal/tape playing through the computer's speakers.
Can anyone advise me on whether this is truly possible to do, and if so, where I might be going wrong?
    Thanks in advance.

    Thanks for your reply, Alcahest.
The speaker Icon you talk of (Volume Control) only has 'line-in' listed in the 'recording properties' section of it, and having its box checked doesn't relate to muting but allowing, so far as I can figure. Anyway I have tried all variations of ticked and unticked boxes in 'volume control' and in the 'recording control' section of it, with no success.
Odd thing is, if I plug into the microphone socket on the computer I do get the tape deck playing through the speakers, but unfortunately only in mono.

  • Connecting GV-HD tape deck to Final Cut Studio

I am able to log and capture footage from the deck to the computer with no problems.
However, I cannot find out why I can't print to video. In other words, how can I send footage to the tape deck from my computer. Any suggestions?

I don't know if I've ever had to erase everything and install the OS again just for installing a program before.
Because this is a professional application that has resources installed in many places all over the system. If you want assurance of a working system, erase and install. If you install on top of older versions, there are more chances for something not working right.

  • Ways to connect a cassette tape deck to ProBook 4530s

I have an old cassette tape deck I want to use to load some music from cassettes to C, burning this on my ProBook 4530s. I have ROXIO software to mabage the transfer, but if iTuneds, ertcv. can do it well lik to know this too.
The problem I have with ROXIO is the adapter that takes the RCA cables from the cassette deck, and uses their Video Capture USB (it is used for video and audio) has a pin-type female connector, where my ProBook USB inputs are a slide-in type flat contacts. I cannot push the USB connection into the Probook USB port(s).
So, I need a way to use existing ProBook 4530s inputs to transfer/burn the music on the cassettes to the CD output on the ProBook. Maybe use the 3.5mm headphone jack as the input? But then not sure if the ROXIO software will notice it.

  • FCP 7.01 crashes when importing from a DSR 11 tape deck.

I am trying to import to FCP 7.01 some DV Pal footage from the DSR 11 tape deck. When I play the film it shows in the viewer fine, but if I then click the capture now button it crashes FCP. I have rebooted several times and it has happened about ten times consecutively. Any ideas why? I've been capturing using cards since getting the new system and not needed to do this before, but need to import a dvcam tape and can't do it.

deck is connected via a firewire cable, device control is set to Firewire Pal, capture input DV Pal 48k Anamorphic, 5TB of space on scratch disk available. This is a new system and I have output to the deck fine for a previous job, but now have this issue with importing from the same deck. Crashes FCP every time.
