Recently i bought a xperia z1 and because of some issues wanted to repair the software through pc companion as the update service is no longer available.But i can not repair my phone cause every time a error message is popping up by saying update engine could not be installed.Then i uninstalled and installed the pc companion several times also opened it as administrator and also in compatible mode as i am using windows 8 and also installed a sony update engine file about 50 mb and also installed the update service software but nothing worked.Everytime same thing happens.I used to update my previous phone xperia sp with the same pc but did not face any problems but now with xperia z1this problem is occuring.......:-(

Hi , i request to please not to buy sony any phone which they claim water proof the reason even if it cross (ADP of 6 months ) they say it cannot be repaired you have to pay 50% amount to get a new one. Battery problem same issue. In my case my phone was in warrenty when i put this in Airport hand bagagge scanner screen got cracked by radiation of scanner. when i approached service center they lifted their hand, extend warrent guys all lifted hands saying it is physicaly damage but concern was it was not miss handled but it has damaged due to poor manufcating defect and not by any impact. I have submitted my hand to sony service center as i dont have option,i have been verbally communcated saying be ready for 20K payment to get a new one. I request ALL MY FRINEDS PHONE IS GOOD TILL YOU DON;T FACE ANY ISSUE THE MOMENT YOU FACE THIS YOU ARE LOCKED TO SONY.

If you're still around I hope you see this message, as you're the FIRST person (after reading every link, thread, other sites, apple support articles, etc.) to mention JB may be causing this iTunes popup window to REPEATEDLY occur:
"The iPhone software update server could not be contacted."
No, I did not hack anything (are you kidding? Grannies don't hack!), but I unknowingly bought a 3Gs iOS 3.1 from ebay that was not advertised as JB. Since it is like brand new, I was going to keep it (because my old backup is iOS 3.1.2) & was trying to simply restore & update, which (I thought) would remove the JB (that's what everybody says at forums, etc).
Instead, after "erasing all settings/content" (inside phone's Settings to get the prior person's name out of there), it is now stuck in White Apple Mode.
Put it in DFU/Recovery Mode & connect to iTunes but that stupid above message keeps appearing & I have already read/tried EVERYTHING to get rid of that message, starting with:
1. OLD phones (3Gs) with OLD iOS 3.1+ should work FINE with OLD Mac (iBook) with OLD OSX (Tiger 10.4.11) with OLD iTunes (9.2.1[5]). So that can't be the problem.
Here's all the other things apple & others say to check which I already checked:
2. USB ports are FINE, both work FINE, so that's not the problem.
3. No "extra USB devices" are connected, ONLY a mouse, & then the phone (yes, I tried it w/o the mouse connected but that didn't help).
4. No "usb hubs."
5. Latest iTunes for this OSX has already been DL'd (iTunes 9.2.1[5]). If you know of a newer one for this OSX, please advise.
6. No antivirus software.
7. No security software.
8. No routers; only 1 comcast modem, period. Wired Ethernet.
9. No wifi gadgets, no wifi at all.
10. No firewalls, except what is on iBook in the SHARING/System-Prefs. section. It's turned OFF.
11. Did the hosts/terminal thing sudo nano whatever it was. There were only 3 lines, NO gs.apple.com:
xxxxx local host
xxxxx broadcast host
xxxx local host
Oh, & btw, ATT officially unlocked this phone (after I filled out their online forms) but I can't finish the process via iTunes to get their Confirmation that "Device is Now Unlocked," so I can use T-Mo.
So that's it. If you have any other ideas of what to do from here, since from your comment, maybe it's the stupid JB on this phone that is causing the problem (???), please advise.

Is it a fault on my end or is it Apple which are still having problems and have disconnected their servers until it's fixed?

I have been trying to update my ipad 2 to ios5 "All" day with no luck. I will connect my ipad 2 to my mac, it brings up itunes and tells me there is an update, i click the download and update button, and when it gets to to "Contacting ipad update server, it just keeps trying to contact the server. it gives me no error, no matter how long i let it do its thing. i have tried rebooting mac/ipad, and trying over and over again to download, but i cant get past that "Contacting ipad update server." anyone else having this same issue? it seems most people at least are getting somewhat further than this..

Hello, I did a drive eraser and reinstalled everything(to clean up computer), then when I got to reinstalling firefox I had a problem. I play a game called Fallensword. It has a script called Fallenswordhelper. So I installed GreaseMonkey, then when I tried to install scripts it said "Script could not be installed Error: Failed to @require json2.js". I have done this to my computer every year since I started using computers. I have never had this before. Please help me get a fix for this, for I google it and cannot find a answer.

ok.. I have the exact same issue as everyone else does.. My internet connection is fine.. I am able to browse the internet.. go into the itunes store in itunes.. download music.. Stream video previews.. but I just dont get how or why itunes can not be contacted I have tried:
- Flushing my DNS.. over and over...
- Going into internet options, Selected and Enabled automatically detect network settings and clicking OK, and OK
- Samething as top but Deselecting auto find network settings.. clicking OK, then OK, Then going back in and Selecting Automatically detect and OK, OK..
- Reinstalling itunes
- Restarted the workstation over and over..
- Disabling/enabling the network card..
- reset the network card.
- ipconfig renew and release.
- I dont have any firewall or antivirus installed other then the windows firewall which is disabled in the management consoled.
- Added the following in the dns, router, and everywhere that could be a possibility.
a. www.apple.com.akadns.net
b. a227.da1.akamai.com
c. confused: phobos.apple.com
ok.. is there anyone out there who is having the same problem?? or found a solution to this? been seraching for weeks on already.. thanks

I have a couple hundred W2K workstations running Client 32 4.9 SP2 with
ZENworks 3.2 SP3 client pieces (workstation manager, remote manager).
I am pushing Client 32 4.91 SP1 out to a few test computers via ZENworks
3.2 SP3. Users are "locked down" (are not Administrator equivalent nor
Power Users) or have Administrator equivalence) . Only 1 computer had a
problem thus far, which the user had Administrator equivalence. The error
message is as follows:
Window is labeled "NICI U.S./Worldwide (128 bit)":
"The InstallShield Engine (iKernel.exe) could not be installed. The system
cannot find the path specified."
I clicked OK and another window appeared:
"There was an error installing Novell International Cryptographic
Infrastructure (NICI).
Error Code: "
Client 32 installs, but not completely because of this.
I verified that IKernel.exe existed under
"C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\engine\6\Intel 32", and had
the proper permissions (I compared against my workstation and the one that
failed).
I was able to run X:\C32491.SP1\WINNT\i386\nici\wcniciu0.exe (the network
path, or \\<my server>\SYS\Public\C32491.SP1\WINNT\i386\nici\wcni ciu0.exe)
(all objects have proper trustee assignments) and install NICI to the local
workstation fine as the admin-equivalent user.
Any clues for the error message and how to fix? I foresee more of these
issues if I roll this out - and that isn't good.

2012R2 Deployment with WDS yields Driver could not be installed error

I'm using WDS installed on a 2008R2 SP1 server. My boot image is from Windows 2012. When I deploy a Windows 2012
R2 image I recive an error dialog during setup that states "Windows installation cannot continue because a required driver could not be installed." In checking the setupact.log file it appears as though setup can't find pkgmgr.exe.
If I use the boot image from 2012 R2 then it works fine. I want to continue using my existing boot image from 2012. Any thoughts on why this is failing?

The WinPE version is 4.0 in using boot image on Windows Server 2012, which does not support deploy Windows 8.1/2012 R2.
You should use WinPE 5.0 (from Windows Server 2012 R2) as you just tested.

After 2.0 Update "iTunes could not connect iPod error (0xE8000001)?

I've downloaded the 2.0 update for my iTouch... after the installer had finished its work it alerted me that the iTouch was rebooting and would appear in iTunes. However, I got this error message instead:
"iTunes could not connect iPod unknown error occured (0xE8000001)". I'm not sure if I should disconnect the USB or not.. or what is going on. Any suggestions?

i think the 'DFU' in these instructions means device firmware upgrade...found this on another forum where people complaining of same problem...
1. Hold both the home and power buttons until the device turns off
2. EXACTLY one second after the iPod turns off, release the sleep/wake button, holding the home button still ( the apple logo SHOULD NOT BE ON ).
3. In about 20 seconds, you will see your iPod appear in iTunes, but the screen on your iPod will still be off. You are now in DFU mode.
4. RELEASE the home button as soon as your iPod appears iTunes. If you fail to do so, your iPod will simply go back into recovery mode.
yo Apple - please roll out some info on this 'known issue'; While $9.95 isn't a budget-breaker, if you have to figure out how to make that $9.95 work on your Apple device like it appears some of us are, it speaks to posting something in Support about it - thanks!

ILife Support Could not be Installed Error -3001

I am trying to install the iLife Support Update. But it always shows me this Error Cannot Install -3001.
All Other Updates Work perfectly please help!

I SOLVED IT
Take Following Steps
Make A new Admin Account
Log in to the new admin account
intall the updates trough the internal system
log out
delete that account
THE UPDATES ARE INSTALLED

On new install of FF, loading gives 'The update could not be installed.'

When updating a previous version, I got the 'The update could not be installed' error.
I uninstalled FF and then installed FF v35.
Still have the issue. I looked and found problems with the parent.lock file - deleted any I could find. Same problem, error on restart
I found a note about cleaning out the old updates after an install. I dug around and found one at: c:\Users\smann\AppData\Local\Mozilla\updates. I cleaned it out and, low and behold, no error!
Then, I went into Help/About Firefox and checked for further updates.
The problem has returned.
What gives? How do I get FF to not complain. It appears to be working okay, but, it makes you wonder.

It does, if you go to about:firefox and check the update log, are there any successful updates noted here?
