Sony Vaio Graphics Questions

Im thinking about purchasing the Sony - VAIO All-In-One Computer / Intel® Core™ i3 Processor / 21.5" Display / 4GB Memory / 500GB Har... and was wondering what type of games  the graphics will support (can it play games like call of duty 4 or 5?) and if the graphics are upgradable?

The Intel HD combined with the Intel proccesser has given surprising results. However, even *with* that, it will not handle Call of Duty very well. It is suggested that if you consider yourself any form of gamer (more intense then Facebook or World of Warcraft) that you get a Desktop machine. Not a laptop, not an all-in-one.
Desktops are the most upgradable, so you can mix and match now, and down the road, to fit your gaming needs.

  • Premiere Pro CS3 on Sony Vaio - performance question

I am running an older VAIO PCV-RX770 P4 2.2 Ghz, 1Gb RAM, ATI RADEON 9550 256 Mb graphics card with Premiere Pro CS3 newly installed. I have attached a new Seagate FreeAgent 500 Gb external drive that I have all my Source Files on. My question is this: Is there any tweaks that I can perform to this machine to make it run as as fast as possible. All drivers are up to date and all drives constantly de-fragged. When I do Start, Run, MSCONFIG, my startup tab is pretty clear, only a few things running - AGRMMSG, khooker, point32, RUNDLL32, ccApp, cfmon, ColorVision Startup. I wonder about the SERVICES tab - can anyone tell me what apps(without me listing them all here) that I can safely "disable"(if at all) here? I see the "hide all Microsoft Services" box and when checked, the list becomes smaller. When I checked the Microsoft box and then "disabled" all the rest, Premiere wouldn't start. Any help would be most appreciated. Thanx, Eric.

There are a couple of Adobe Technical Support Documents (links are in the WIki) that cover optimizing Windows for PPro. They will probably help you.
    Cheers

  • Sony Vaio Pro 13's Horrible Graphics Performance

I'm using Sony Vaio Pro 13 Model SVP13215PXB and from day one it has this video problem. When you boot it up the videos (over internet or hard drive or games) will play smooth for 5 minutes and then start becoming choppier and choppier as time goes by. For example if you are watching a You tube video it will start normal then in few minutes the frames will start to freeze and hang and worst with time. I've been in touch with support over phone. They did basically install/uninstall of drivers then asked me to reinstall the OS and in spite that nothing has change. In the end they just gave up by saying “please use it for few days and let us know if anything changes”. Hoping against hope in my opinion. Looking close, there is no dedicated graphic memory in this high end laptop and that makes the machine struggle to keep up with today’s modern video demands. Even the cheap laptops come with 128-256 MB of memory. But this one has absolutely none. It’s so horrible that the GTA IV can’t be even played on it which I believe was released in 2008 and this is a 2013 machine. I know that nothing can be done about it and may be that is why Sony stopped making laptops. But the people who invested on the brand will suffer for few more years to come.

  • Are there any ways to upgrade the graphics card on a sony vaio laptop?

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Pretty much if you have to ask, the answer is no.
For those laptops that allow it (and "Sony Vaio" isn't specific enough to determine this, an exact model number and current configuration would be needed.), it's usually a difficult and expensive procedure that WILL void your warranty (unlike desktop video card upgrades).
If it has Intel GMA graphics, 100% are non-upgradeable.
If it has discrete graphics (ATI or NVidia), there's a slight chance but it's getting more and more rare.  In general, if multiple video card options were offered at purchase time for a system, it is possible to upgrade from the lower options to higher ones at a later date for significant expense.  The exception being systems that offered Intel GMA or other options - the GMA-based systems usually use a different motherboard than the other options (This was the case with the Dell E1705 series.)

  • Bluelabel Sony Vaio VPCSC1AFM/S missing advertised Radeon chip?

    Hey guys,
I purchased this blue label Sony vaio laptop the other day (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Sony+-+VAIO+Laptop+/+Intel%26%23174%3B+Core%26%238482%3B+i5+Processor+/+...). It says that the laptop uses AMD Radeon HD 6470M graphics but when I went to confirm it within my graphics properties it says my computer is running Intel HD 3000 graphics. I also used the Intel® System Identification Utility (http://www.intel.com/support/siu.htm) just to be sure but it also stated that my laptop was running Intel HD 3000 graphics and not the AMD Radeon HD 6470M graphics it is supposed to be. My laptop does have the "RADEON graphics" sticker on it.
Im new to this whole chip set thing so I may be misunderstanding how it works. Maybe I have both chips? Can someone please lead me in the right direction.
    Thanks,
    Ryan

  • Sony Vaio VPCZ112GX/S Availability?

    Hello!
I recently purchased a Sony Vaio VPCZ112GX/S laptop (on April 3rd) from bby.com.  I received notice that the item is backordered with the typical 1-2 week time frame response and now the item on bby.com changed from backordered to sold out.
This may be a long shot, but is there any possibility of anyone on here knowing an actual date as too when the product will be in stock again and shipping out? I noticed the item went backordered the week before i purchased it, but quickly changed to normal availability again.  Guess I waited a day to long to order it! :-)
    The SKU is 9740911.
    Thanks so much!

Really there's no way to tell short of calling someone in the manufacturing/shipping plant and asking them. But, since that's not feasible, the only thing you can really do is wait.

  • How to connect I pad with lap top Sony Vaio

    Hello,
I have an Ipad and I would like to connect it with my Lap top Sony Vaio with using the bluetooth system. And the problem that I have, my computer ask me to insert the disk and I have not this disk.
How I can do with out this disk.
My computer is with Windows Vista
    Thanks for your answer

To answer your original question, you can connect your Sony Vaio with your iPad using the cable that came with your iPad. Bluetooth connectivity is not supported. You move photos and other documents from your laptop to your iPad with iTunes which can be obtained from the Apple website for free. The iPad is not like another computer or a disk that you can connect to your laptops.

  • Sony Vaio Laptop return to factory settings HELP

I have a Sony Vaio laptop that i bought 5 years ago.  It is very slow and takes a while to get into the swing of things and I want it to run better, So I have a 1TB external hard drive and I was going to back up all the important files and restore it to factory settings, BUT... I dont have a disc with windows on or anything like that.  So I've found that I can do a recovery partition. Will I be ok to do this without having Windows on disc etc etc?  Would this help the laptop run faster and "be like new" ?

    Hi ltc58!
Thank you for considering Sony Community!
Since your laptop is quite old and you're experiencing slow performance, performing a Full Format Recovery would be the best option, as long as the recovery partition of the unit is still intact and not corrupted. Yes, you can still try to format the computer. Please make sure to backup all of your important files on your external drive. The laptop will reinstall the Operating System and it will go back to its original factory settings.
Please follow one of these steps:
Using Assist Button: Shutdown the laptop and remove all peripherals except for AC adapter. Press Assist button. Select Start Recovery Wizard -> skip Rescue -> Start recovery.
Using F10 key: Shutdown the laptop and remove all peripherals except for AC adapter. Turn on the unit then immediately, keep tapping F10 key.
    NOTES:
*If an Edit Boot Options screen appears, press the Enter key.
*If a Windows Boot Manager screen appears, select VAIO Recovery Environment and then press the Enter key.
In the VAIO Recovery Center window, under Choose a program, click to select Restore Complete System. Follow the on-screen instructions.
The process will take for about an hour. If none of these works, then the recovery partition is not accessible anymore. You may contact Sony Support based on your location to order a Recovery Disc or use a retail version of Operating System.
For further assistance, we kindly recommend visiting our Sony Global Web site for information on contacting the Sony Support Center in your region at http://www.sony.net/SonyInfo/Support/.
Hope one of the process works. Good-luck.

  • Sony VAIO laptop not recognizing video ipod

I just got a new Sony VAIO laptop. I plugged in my ipod, and it recognized it as an ipod and everything. I went to go install it, and the stupid windows hardware installation wizard couldn't install it. I have tried numerous times and it still can't. Now when I plug my ipod in, neither My Computer nor itunes recognizes it. The latest ipod updater doesn't recognize it either. However, the ipod itself has either the "charging" or "charged" icon on it. It charges like normal when connected to the laptop. I have yet to see it say "do not disconnect" when I connect it to the laptop I am using USB to connect the ipod. I have tried all of this stuff too and it didn't fix the problem: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301343

After three days and countless hours that I will never get back, I finally figured out how to get the computer to recognize the ipod and work like it is supposed to. If you go to the device manager and it is showing up with a yellow question mark next to it, open it up and if it is giving you a code 28, try this.
Go to this thread, it helped me and maybe it will help you.

  • Sony Vaio Laptop Won't Turn On

I have a Sony Vaio laptop that turns off every time I turn it on. I have taken it in for repairs and they can't that nothing is wrong with it and they can turn it on. They even run diagnostics and have opened it up and can't find a problem. I did update the computer from Windows 7 to 8 but the problem was happening even before I updated it. At first, it would turn off then I would be able to immediately turn it back on, then it would turn off and I would have to wait a few minutes and it could turn it back on. Now, it won't be anything. I know it does work because it was on when I got it back from the repair shop. Any  help would be greatly appreciated. I am getting very frustrated!

Check if the DC jack is loose or damaged within the computer.
Remove media from the CD/DVD drive.
Disconnect all external devices that are connected to the computer.
Connect the AC adapter into a known working AC outlet and to the DC jack on the notebook, and then attempt to turn on the computer normally.
    NOTES:
Verify the correct Sony AC adapter is being used, and not a third-party replacement AC adapter.
Connect the AC adapter directly to a wall outlet and not to a surge protector or extension cord.
Some AC adapters have a POWER LED indicator and can be confirmed as receiving power by ensuring the LED is lit. If the AC adapter is damaged, or the LED is not lit or continuously flickers when plugged into a working AC outlet, the adapter must be replaced.
Disconnect the AC power adapter, remove the battery, and then press and hold the Power Switch for 5 seconds. Once that has been done, connect the AC power adapter again, and then attempt to turn on the computer normally without the battery installed.
NOTE: If the computer turns on without the battery, the battery is either completely drained or defective. Put the battery back in, reconnect the AC adapter and charge the battery for 24 hours. If the issue still occurs, that battery is the problem and will need to be replaced.
Remove any additional Random Access Memory (RAM) that may have been added to the computer.
NOTE: If removing the added RAM memory resolves the issue, check the computer specifications to ensure the memory modules meet the minimum requirements. If they do, the modules themselves may be defective.
Attempt to turn the computer on.

  • Sony vaio blue screen

so i just got a sony vaio after best buy junked out my old laptop which was shipped out 2 times for repair for a total of 8 weeks.  I'm a college student, and this happened right before finals.  now, my new vaio is getting the blue screen at least 2 times a day, and I have midterms next week.  I called best buy and they said that they have to ship it out again for 6 weeks.  By that time its goin to be the end of the semester again.  Are there any other options for a quicker fix on the laptop?

  • Sony VAIO VGN-FW11E - can't set brightness

    Hello everyone!
I have really annoying problem with my laptop - setting brightness just don't work. I have tested many others distributions and this work only under Ubuntu 9.10 beta. I think that is connected with this. How can I use this patch  in arch?
    Laptop: Sony VAIO VGN-FW11E
    Graphic card: ATI Radeon HD3470
I'm sorry for my english but people in polish forum just can't help me ;p

@B I'm not able to make so specific changes like you said. I can build something from AUR, sometimes also make some changes to PKBUILD's but doing something with dsdt is to hard for me.
    @litemotiv
Do you think I shoud compile new kernel with new sony-laptop module inside?
hmm, i'm not certain that will fix it for you..
do you already have a fixed dsdt for your laptop? if you do, the best way is to compile a kernel with these lines added to the kernel config file:
    CONFIG_STANDALONE=n
    CONFIG_ACPI_CUSTOM_DSDT=y
    CONFIG_ACPI_CUSTOM_DSDT_FILE="DSDT.hex"
that will definitely fix the brightness issue. the sony-laptop module is built by default, so you don't have to compile that specifically (the module is needed to get the function-keys on your keyboard working, it shouldn't have any influence on the brightness itself).
if you don't have a custom dsdt yet, you need to make one following the instructions on the vaiobuntu blog. it's a bit daunting at first, but i assure you that it's doable.

  • Sony VAIO Flip 15 no longer booting

    Hi all,
    Here's my problem:
First it started as the touchpad not functioning after powering on from sleep mode. So I uninstalled and reinstalled the touchpad drivers and it works again after a reboot. But the next time I power it on from sleep mode it stops functioning again! At that point, my laptop decides it's time for an update, and forces an update when I shut down the laptop so I don't touch it for a couple of days. Next time I try to turn it on, my laptop won't even boot up properly ! And by that I mean that I'll press the power button, the power (solid green led, no blinking) and hdd led will turn on, the fan revs up, but while the screen is still black, it shuts down. Right after it shuts down, it will try to power on again with no intervention from me and then shuts down once more. Now every time I try to power on, that's the only process that I get. That's about all I can describe for the symptoms.
    Here's what I've tried:
-Get to bios screen and try a recover, the laptop won't even allow me to get to a bios screen (tried using the battery kill method and then assist button, no luck)
-Remove the battery to reset bios and try to power on again, but the same process as I mentioned repeats itself
-Remove and reinsert the cmos battery but again when I try to power on, the same thing happens
-Try to take the battery out of the picture and only use AC power, but still the power issue
-Tried removing ram disks in all combinations and try to start each time but still the same issue.
-Tried reseating hdd and ram and most everything but still same issue
*All have been attempts by regular power button and the assist button*
Essentially nothing will get past this ****** powering laptop on, and then it shuts off and tries to power on again by itself and shuts off again, all with a black screen that can't be bypassed

    Hi ttran106,
    Welcome to Sony Community!
We regret to know that your laptop is having a power issue. When did it start? May I know what is the current operating system of this laptop?
If the laptop won't stay on and it always restart by itself then we can't perform any troubleshooting. I'm confused on the things that you said you've tried. First thing this SVF15N17CXB is a compact laptop wherein the battery is not removable, RAM is not removable nor the CMOS battery unless you open up the laptop by yourself. (We have an authorized technician to help you fix the laptop)
Click on this link and please make sure that you will follow the instructions provided to isolate the issue.
    Please keep me posted.
