Sony video camera

Does anyone have experience with the Sony DCR HC 27 video camera?
We like it from the point of view of ease of use (from what we can tell), size, and weight, but we have read some reviews that say the picture is less than stellar.
Thanks!
susan

I have the Sony DCR-H 26....probably the earlier version of the 27. I like it a lot. I find it easy to use, small enough to carry everywhere and instantly compatible with iMovie for importing and exporting.
My only complaint with Sony is that its newer camcorders will not allow recording from analog sources like a VCR without using a converter. The manual states that to do this, the camcorder MUST be connected via FireWire (which Sony calls iLink). I even inquired at our local Sony store, and push the manager to double check when he told me that I could do this with any VCR. He did research it and concluded that it is no longer an option to record FROM the VCR to Sony's camcorders, only from camcorder TO a VHS tape. I don't know why Sony would do this...don't most people eventually put footage from their camcorders onto DVDs?
Then I wondered how many old VCRs have Firewire ports on them ? I am certainly not going to buy a new VCR just for that. And, since I already recorded all but a very few VHS tapes to DV tape already, I searched out my old TRV Sony and am using it for my last VHS recording sessions.
Re: the picture quality of the Sony camcorder....I also read....possibly in a MacWorld article, that Sony's picture quality was less than another brand. I still like the videos I am taking with the Sony. My daughter uses an older JVC and the Sony's seems a bit better than that.
Some people prefer other brands like Canon or Panasonic. Maybe they will post their preferences so you will have more information to assist you with your purchase.

How can I download video HDV minicassette footage from my sony video camera with no fire wire port?

    Hi,
Are you talking about your computer which has no firewire port ? If YES you can have one of two options:
    (a) Use FCI - Firewire card like this (preferred)
    You can buy from this:
      http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/2-Ports-PCI-Express-PCI-E-IEEE-1394A-Firewire-Adapter-Cable-Card-/1507023...
    (b) You can also use USB-Firewaire adapter like this:

  • I cannot install the component for QuickTime to convert videos done by a Sony video camera. My iMac tells me that software is designed for previous versions of Os x. Any ideas?

I cannot install the QuickTime component for MPEG-2 to read and covert video files created by Sony video cameras. My iMac tells me that the software is designed for previous versions of OS X.
    Any ideas?

Ok, so after like 4 days of going through all these different issues, I figured out that several programs weren't downloading, and it was an issue with my wireless connectivity messing up the digital signatures, so if you plug in your comp to the modem and delete your temp files, it should start to work!

  • Why can I no longer see .mts files on my Sony Video Camera

before I upgraded to Mountan Lion, I could hook my Sony Video Camera up to the USB port and see the .MTS files on my Mac. Now when I hook the camera up, I can no longer see the files. I have to hook the camera up to a windows machine, copy the files from the camera to a dropbox folder or DVD. Then I can see them on my Mac from the dropbox folder or DVD.  Why did I lose the ability to see the files directly on the camera?

  • Need help downloading Sony video camera to iMac

I have been unable to download a video from my son's Sony video camera to my iMac.  It doesn't recognize something?

Well, as per the previous note, more info is needed, but I would also add another question and is it a MiniDV camcorder with a tape or does it have a removable memory card or is it a hard drive-based camera? The reason I ask is that I had an older tape camcorder that I plugged in via the USB cable. Didn't work other than allowing me to access the files on the memory card in the camera. What I needed, (and bought) was a firewire cable that allowed me to control the camcorder and copy off the recorded video straight from my 2010 Macbook Pro. Worked perfectly with iMovie.
A long shot, but may help. Also, what ports do you have on your camera?

  • Which Sony Video Camera's will work with Final Cut

    Hi,
I'm getting *Final Cut* and can get +Sony Video Camera's+ at a discount, but like to know which +Sony Video Camera's+ will work with *Final Cut* or should most work without any problems?
    Thanks,
    Sal

You got to do better than that.
Any idea on the TYPE of sony video camera's available to you? They make quite a few.
I'd stay away from anything with a DVD in it... also HDV can be tricky too... but not undoable.

  • Remote control Sony video camera with Mac Mini?

Is it possible to connect an IR transmitter to a mac mini to be able to control a Sony camera from a remote location miles away? Specificaly, I want to be able to point my Sony IR remote control at my Mac Book Pro at home to control a video camera at work via the internet. Control features include focus, zoom, iris, White balance, etc. Is this possible? (The Sony camera comes with a remote control)

I never heard of such a device but there's a bunch of stuff in Google:
"Results 1 - 10 of about 611,000 for "long distance remote control."
Your best bet would probably be a telephone, with the person at the other end in the same room as the camera.

  • My sony video camera has HDMI out - can I download direct into MBP using dhmi

Is it possible to download direct from video camera with HDMI out to Macbook Pro 15" HDMI in.

HDMI out is only suitable to connect to a display.
Current Macs do not have raw-Video inputs. Use USB or FireWire.

  • I have a Mac Mini, and it won't accept connecting my Sony video camera.  So I got a SD mem card reader to unload my movies from.  It worked the first time I used it a few months ago.  This time it says it doesn't recognize the format I am trying to use?

I have all thenecessary updates.  I have switched over from a PC to Mac back in April and have nad nothing but problems adapting.  I don't know why this worked the first time, and put my videos inti imovie, and now it doesn't recognize it at all.  And the Mem card reader does work, because I just put the SD card from my regular camera into it and it downloaded those fine, it just won't take my movies!

Which sony camera? I have a Sony HDR-CX550 right now and have been able to use the SD card as well as connect the camera directly. I also had CX110 that work too. You may want to try to copy the complete top level folder from the SD card to the Hard drive, then try to "import from Camera archive" and select that folder.

  • How can I connect a Sony DCR-PC110 video camera with iMovie and import my videos?

How can I connect my Sony video camera DCR-PC110 with iMovie in order to import my old videos?

    Hi
This Camera has three types of ports.
    - Analog-out
    - USB
    - I.Link = FireWire = IEEE1394 = Digital in/out = DV-terminal
And Your Camera only can send Photos via the USB-connection - NO VIDEO.
So You Must get a FireWire Cable and eventually a ThunderBolt/FireWire converter Cable to get Import to work.
There are no real way around this.

  • Storing raw sony video footage from camera

hello all...not sure if this is the correct forum. i have about 60gb of raw footage on my sony video camera internal hard drive and i would like to import on and stored it on a dvd. i would like to do this in a way that is uncompressed and is raw and imovie will read it off the dvd so i can edit it down the road. is this possible? the files are .mts. thanks in advance..

Is your footage on a camera or camcorder? iMovie can import most files from most camcorders - see this compatibility list:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3290
You'd have to import directly into iMovie (follow the directions under Help in iMovie). If you want to import it to your desktop, I'm not sure that you can do that from a hard drive camcorder (that's how I import mine, but they're on an SDHC card so I simply put that in the card reader and drag the videos to the desktop). You might want to give it a try by plugging the camcorder into a USB port - if it shows on the desktop, you can just drag the videos over. I don't think that'll work, but it's worth a try; otherwise, check the compatibility list and import the videos into iMovie. You don't have to edit them immediately.
And, if my suggestions don't work, you might want to post in the iMovie forum in order to get more knowledgeable answers.
