Sony Video Recordable Driver VRD-VC20

Is there anyway to get a Sony Video Recordable Driver VRD-VC20 to work with Windows 7?
Thanks! Yrma

Hi Yrma,
The Windows 7 and Windows Vista operating systems were released after the introduction of this DVDirect model.
Compatibility testing with these operating systems has not been done.
Although it is possible the DVDirect Recorder may work with these operating systems, it cannot be guaranteed.
Only Windows XP and Windows 2000 Professional have been certified to work with this DVDirect Recorder.

  • Sony VRD-VC20 Disc Compatibility

    Hi,
My father has been using a VRD-VC20 for years to archive his television shows and has recently run into problems with disc compatibility.  He has always purchased DVD+R discs, either Sony or Memorex, without issue until recently when he tried a spindle of Sony, then returned it and got a spindle of Memorex, and neither set of discs was recognized in the device.  He was receiving the message "please insert a blank disc" (or something that effect) when he tried to record with either of these media.  He also found some of the older Memorex discs, and these worked correctly in the device.
Since it is highly unlikely that two sets of 50 discs were manufactured incorrectly (he's VERY thorough and tried all 50 discs from both spindles unsuccessfully), does this device have issues with newer discs because of manufacturing differences from previous discs?  Since one of the media in question is actually manufactured by Sony, perhaps you can verify what might be different?  Can you provide guidance on what media is compatible with this device going forward, so I can avoid my poor father blindly guessing at Staples in the future?  Thank you!
    Sincerely,
    Kendra

    Hi Kendra,
    Welcome to Sony Community!
This error will appear if you're using a disc that have been already recorded on other recordable drive that is not compatible with this drive. This will also appaer when you insert a finalized DVD+/- R or DVD-RW disc.
    Discs that can be used:
In stand-alone operation, you can only use DVD+R (Single layer disc), DVD+R DL (Double layer disc), DVD-R (Single layer disc), DVD+RW and DVD-RW discs.
Also, try recording from a different source and check if that helps. If the issue persists, I suggest that you get the DV Direct serviced. You can initiate the service request from the below link:

  • How do I download video from my Sony Handycam recorder to my macbook pro ?

How do I download video from my Sony Handcam Video Recorder (DCR-SX44) to my macbook pro, using imovie? Seems like it was meant to work with a PC (lots of info and a CD for PC use...instructions to contact Apple for macs!)  I've saved video to both the internal drive and a SDHC card, but having no luck...

have you tried to follow advice given in the Manual?

  • I burned an edited movie to disc using H.264 codec and a second movie to MPEG -4 Video both worked well on my iMac but will not play on my Sony DVD Recorder/Player which accepts both DVD RW and DVD-RW.  Any suggestions?

I burned an edited movie to disc using H.264 codec and a second movie using MPEG-4 Video.  Both played well on my iMac but would not play on my Sony DVD Recorder/Player which accepts both DVD+RW and DVD-RW discs.  I have tried other 'codecs' DV-PAL; DVCPRO-PAL; DVCPRO50-PAL; AIC; and finally share to iDVD.  iDVD works on both my iMac and DVD Recorder but the picture is very poor with major shimmering which is unwatchable.  Can anyone assist? The other codecs I used either do not pay on my video recorder or fail when I play them back on my iMac.  I am at a loss as to what I can do.  I am from the UK so using PAL is essential.

If the source video is interlaced, you may have problems using iMovie. It de-interlaces everything on output which can cause picture to look strange.  Final Cut Pro X supports interlaced video, but it costs a lot more.
Standard DVD Players don't support H.264 or MPEG4.  You might want to look at this article on transferring HD video to DVD.  I wrote this article mainly for Final Cut Pro, but many of the same principles apply.

  • VRD-VC20 Transfer Questions..please

    Hi
I am using WinXP HOME SP3, 500HDD and 200HDD onboard with an INTEL Q6600 Quad CPU, NVIDIA GeForce 8600GT GPU, and 3.33MB DDR. NERO9
A friend of mine bought a VRDVC20 DVDirect Transfer device and could not figure this out. They bought it at Best Buy for $230.00. I told her I had bunches of old VHC Camcorder tapes I wanted to burn onto DVD. I also purchased the Studio 12 Pinnacle hardware and software and still trying to figure that out too.
This DVDirect VRD-VC20 came with NERO6 Software, (because it is old) but I already have Nero 9 NeroVision v.6.0.6.0 / Express v.9.0.9.4 / Burning Rom v. 9.0.9.4 with all the Nero9 Apps. Installed on my computer, so I should ONLY install the Application and NO NERO software.
I went to the eSupport page here and it shows both the firmware and software update. VIDEO CAPTURE PLUG-IN v.1.9.3I, & VIDEO CAPTURE UPDATE v.1308) Will any of these downloads mess up my already onboard Pinnacle Studio 12 capture software?
I have (1) a VCR, (2) an Analog JVC 1997 Camcorder, and also a Pinnacle Studio 12 program on board my computer.
The Included Sony software Disc is REV. 6.10W, and I may need to find a possible upgrade to this software.
Before I hook this up, is it possible to capture from analog camera/VCR burn it to computer, then edit any of the bad places out, then use Nero9 to burn, or is this unit strictly for straight non-editable video transfer?
Can you hook the SONY burner up to the front AV jacks of the VCR and pause and record onto DVD while watching on the TV screen exactly what you wish to record, or do you just record blind using the VCR and the SONY burner separate of the TV?
On the box, the Write speed is 16X Max burning, if I connect it to the computer, so it's Ok if my DVD Rom writes only to 8X? or do I need a faster DVR-DVD Burner? The same with burning/writing to the disc inside the machine?
Any tricks, precautions I should know about, or is this a waste of time? Thanks for any info on this.

The Pinnacle Studio 12 software should run fine after the update– if you do have any issues with shared files then uninstall and reinstall the software after you run the capture plugin software update.

You can use the VRD-VC20 for both – it can be used to burn from your computer or capture directly from a camcorder or other connected video device.

Yes, the VRD-VC20 will capture whatever is connected, so you can either record blind and convert/edit later or you can pause either the recorder or the device on the fly while monitoring.

Yes, the drive can write at a maximum speed of 16x when using high speed DVD+R or DVD-R discs. When connecting a computer you can specify the write speed with the software. Depending on the type of disc you use you may get better results with a slower speed.

  • Intermittant problems recognizing my Sony video camera when capturing

When filming live, I have an intermittant problem with PPro 6 recognizing my Sony video camera when capturing.  I hit the G (for start recording) and something it goes live and sometime the capture window goes to digital mess. I am using the "no" device control preference setting as I was told to by the Sony customer care tech.

  • Need help downloading Sony video camera to iMac

I have been unable to download a video from my son's Sony video camera to my iMac.  It doesn't recognize something?

Well, as per the previous note, more info is needed, but I would also add another question and is it a MiniDV camcorder with a tape or does it have a removable memory card or is it a hard drive-based camera? The reason I ask is that I had an older tape camcorder that I plugged in via the USB cable. Didn't work other than allowing me to access the files on the memory card in the camera. What I needed, (and bought) was a firewire cable that allowed me to control the camcorder and copy off the recorded video straight from my 2010 Macbook Pro. Worked perfectly with iMovie.
A long shot, but may help. Also, what ports do you have on your camera?

  • Help me pick a new video recorder

I need a new video recorder. Please give me some suggestions in the $400-800 range. I have used a Hi-8 Sony, but the sound went, got old, etc.
My primary use will be videos taken for coaching and my family, which I will put into iMovie and eventually burn to DVD through iDVD. I have been using iMovie 4, but I will upgrade if that would be better. The coaching movies are about 25 minutes with many, many clips, as they are short highlights (2-10 seconds each).
I currently (and most likely for at least one more year) use an eMac 1.25 GHz G4 with 768 MB RAM and a superdrive.
So, give me some good options. I like having a decent screen (my current one is a whopping 3"), as I often show athletes their form during practice, although that is not my top priority.

    Hi! Purds,
You didn't say where you were from. I had to purchase a new camera last semester and having no job, I had no money. I went to the WALMART Website and was able to find a good camera at the lowest price. (About $50 cheaper than I could find the camera anywhere else!) They shipped it right to my house within three day.
And make sure it has FireWire! Sony has their own version of FireWire, i.Link, but you have to make sure that you can get the proper cable to use on the Mac.
Always buy the best camera you can afford!

  • Video recording issues (it jumps and the audio sto...

    Dear Support team,
I was very satisfied with my phone for a couple of months but nowadays I've an annoying issue with the video recordings of my Nokia Lumia 920. I've noticed in the past few weeks that there's a "bleep" or a "jump" in each video I take. (Nokia Camera software, Lumia Black, RM-821_eu_hungary_434)
It's very dissapointing because every video is let's say faulty at some point of the video.
For example please take a look at the following video at 0:34 where not just the video "jumps" but the audio recording also stops for a couple of seconds:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xD9R2x5Kx4c
The interesting thing is that during the next 21 minutes it did not make any mistakes while recording.
Please take a look at an another example at 3:31:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hYQ5vNY-BUw
If you're interested in debugging the issue I can send you somehow (by FTP or so) the original files as well.
I have got more videos which are like this and it was shown like this on the phone's screen as well so I've ruled out the possibility to have an issue while transfering it to my PC.
I'm assuming that possibly there's something wrong with the Lumia 920's RAM memory or with the 32GB internal storage drive, e.g.: let's say bad sector like on hard drives.
The phone recently had it's first freezing while I was reading my facebook the phone suddenly went black and restarted.
I still have 1,5 year warranty on my phone but I've bought ~150 km far away so I hopeI won't need to travel there and wait for weeks and to travel there again to get my phone back! What do you suggest?
Is it possible that it's rather a software issue not a hardware? Or should I return my phone to the retail shop or is there any downloadable software patch to correct this issue? Is this a known issue to you?
I've noticed one more thing: when I'm using my phone for e.g. like 10 minutes it's back cover gets warmer and warmer somewhere around the camera; I thought first it's because of the higher processor and battery usage but I don't think it's normal. The "heat issue" is also present while playing with a game.
Info: my battery lasts for 1,5 day or so by very moderate usage, is it normal? (4 times a day wifi for 5-10 minutes, max. 1 pcs one minute call per day)
Thanks for your help in advance,
    Best Regards

    Hi All,
I'm shocked about this device as you know I was disappointed due to the video recording glitches previously, but what yesterday happened is the worst I could ever imagine: I've recorded 3 videos and from this 3 videos 2 are unplayable even on my phone and on my PC, it gives an error message: "The video failed to play".
The 2 files can't be seen in the camera roll only by using Pocket File Manager.
I was able to copy all files to my computer:
    WP_20140802_21_16_58_Pro.mp4 - 661 203 084 bytes - playable
    WP_20140802_21_22_19_Pro.mp4 - 3939 658 131 bytes - unplayable
    WP_20140802_22_13_59_Pro.mp4 - 3235 991 965 bytes - unplayable
To me these 2 videos are really very important, please help me to recover them! Please tell me, how you want me to send the files as they're, ~4GB each, by using Onedrive or how?
If this issue won't be solved I'm considering NOT TO BUY a Nokia again! Can it be a hardware related issue, e.g. faulty internal flash? Should I return the phone to the retail shop?
    Regards

  • Error when starting new video recording

When I try to start a new video recording I receive the following error:
The operation couldn’t be completed. (OSStatus error -536870206.)
I am using Quicktime Pro on an iMac running Mac OS X 10.6.5. Quicktime will work with iSight but not with my PS3 eye (usb webcam). I am able to choose the PS3 eye from Quicktime preferences and the video screen will show up with video from the PS3 eye (so I know that Quicktime recognizes the cam). But the error dialogue box appears immediately.
Other information - I am using macam.component for Quicktime and the PS3 eye works perfectly with Macam.
Has anyone received this error before?

I have not, but I do not use PS3 eye. If it is a "UVC" (usb video class) device, it should work with any Mac running Mac OS X 10.4.9 or later _without additional software drivers_. Some unnecessary drivers can conflict with your Mac's software.
If desired, you can remove the file macam.component from /Library/QuickTime and restart Mac to see if the PS3 eye can work with QuickTime without the additional driver.

  • Digital Video Recorder with Firewire 400 and new iMac

I just got a new iMac which has only 1 firewire800 and no firewire 400 ports. My digital video camcorder has a firewire 400 cable to transfer taped recordings to the computer (I want to import using iMovie 09). So, do I simply need to buy a new firewire 800 cable that will plug into my digital camcorder? The reason I'm hesitant is that I've tried using a USB connection, and iMovie 09 didn't open and doesn't recognize that the digital camcorder is connected when I use USB. Does iMovie 09 just no longer recognize my several year old Samsung digital camcorder, or does it just not recognize it with a USB connection, and it will be fine if I get a firewire 800 connection that fits the new iMac? Is there another type of converter--e.g., a cable that allows a firewire 400 to plug in on one end and has the firewire 800 connection on the other end?
    Thanks

Thanks for the reply. I went ahead and got a new cable and now I can plug for digital video camcorder into my new Mac. Unfortunately, as I feared, the Mac still doesn't recognize the camcorder. I checked the system profiler with the camcorder plugged in, and under Firewire Bus it reads Unknown Device:
    FireWire Bus:
Maximum Speed: Up to 800 Mb/sec
    Unknown Device:
    Manufacturer: 0xF0
    Model: Unknown
    GUID: 0xF000FFFFFFFF
Maximum Speed: Up to 400 Mb/sec
Connection Speed: Up to 400 Mb/sec
    Sub-units:
    Unknown Unit:
    Unit Software Version: 0x10001
    Unit Spec ID: 0xA02D
Am I just out of luck--the new mac just doesn't recognize my slightly out of date digital video recorder? Or should I be able to get a driver to make it work?

  • Need digital video recorder

I need a digital video recorder to work with a Sony lipstick cam. It doesn't have to be HD. I was using an older camcorder, but it died. Most new ones don't have this feature anymore. It doesn't have to be a camcorder, and it should be inexpensive cuz I don't want to pour more money into this. It's for a helmet cam.

You need an analog to digital converter to play the video from a VCR through into iMovie.  What I used with my VCR is a Canopus ADVC-100 converter. They're not cheap, around $175-200.
If you have access to a digital video camera that has pass through capability you can run the VCR throuith it into your Mac and iMovie.  Maybe even rent one.
There may be other converters on the market today as I did my work a number of years ago.

  • Quicktime - New Video Recording using Canon HV30 - Codec?

I'm using Quicktime Pro 7.4.1 with a Canon HV30 connected via firewire. In Quicktime preferences pane, the HV30 is the video source with "Device Native" as the Quality setting. Though, I can't see a preview in the Quicktime window while recording, it does appear to record footage. When I stop the recording, it says that I don't have the codec to view the footage and sends me to the Quicktime plug-in page on this site, but I have no idea what I need.
Considering some of the codecs (if not all of them) cost money, I'd rather not buy something that won't fix my problem. Anyone have any ideas?
EDIT: Oh yeah, the camera is set to HDV 1080i60 video standard. When I switch the camera to SDV, the Quicktime preview returns and everything works as expected.
