Sony xr200 no longer being recognized by imovie

I have been using this camera for the past 2 years with no problems on my imac.  Then just a couple of weeks ago I went to connect the camera to make a movie.  Now imovie is not recognizing it as being connected.  The computer recognizises that it is there, and I can see the .mts files, but then I have to convert them to use in Imovie.  Is there something I can do so my mac can see this camera again?  Was there an update to imovie that caused this, and can i revert back?  If I upgrade to Lion does this go away?
I'm running an imac, 10.6.8

i did the same with my ipod classic 80 gb - it was working totally fine and when i upgraded the software yesterday it stopped synching. it now causes my itunes to freeze when it's connected to the computer. i tried different computers and cables - usb jacks, uninstalled - reinstalled itunes, hours of reading forums etc..
NO MATTER WHAT I TRIED I CONTINUE TO HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM ON ANY COMPUTER I PLUG INTO. and the ipod works FINE when it's not connected to the computer.
so - obviously - the software update has somehow corrupted my ipod.
NEED A FIX QUICK APPLE!

my ipod touch 2g is no longer being recognized by itunes why and what can i do i have reset it and everything

If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.

Okay everyone I was able to resolve the issue with my scanner.
After posting here I recalled how my wireless mouse was acting up and the step I took to resolve that issue, so after uninstalling the hp software I went to the Library/Preference folder and removed all the hp scanjet plist and all the other related scanjet files.
I emptied the trash can and restarted my computer and then reinstalled the updated driver and "walaa" I was once again able to create magic.

  • How to convert dvc tapes from Sony DCR camcorder to format recognized by iMovie 11?

Our Sony Handycam DCR-HC36 is no longer recognized by iMovie.  When we bought the iMac I was able to import tapes from the camcorder, but since updating iMovie it no longer recognizes the camera.  Is there a converter which will read the DVC tapes we have and  import them into the iMovie?

Maybe you can try this: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/video-mate/id592736614?mt=12 (you can try the software directly by clicking the "Yuri Wang Web Site") , a video converter that accepts almost all format videos' conversion.
You can do the conversion in three steps after installing it: add file->choose output format ("Convert to" bar->iMovie)->convert
    batch converting is available.

  • SONY HDR-FX1 Not being recognized in Leopard

Hello, Im trying to connect my SONY HDR-FX1 and import video to Final Cut, but the camera is not being recognized, when I plug it in by firewire, the Camera displays the usual "DV-IN" but nothing happens on the Mac.
Im new to Macs so I have no idea of what to do
    Help owuld be greatly Appreciated

Is your tape HDV or just DV? If the camera displays DV in, you have your camera set to play standard DV footage, or downconvert HDV footage. If that's what you want, then you'll need to use one of the DV Easy Setups in FCP.
The important thing to do first, though, is turn all your equipment off. Camera, computer, all.
Make sure the camera is connected to the computer via FireWire first, then turn it on and load your tape.
Now turn on the Mac, and launch FCP. Close any previous projects that may have opened.
Now choose the proper Easy Setup from the FCP menu. This will depend on whether you are NTSC or PAL, and if you have HDV or DV footage.
NOTE: If you have HDV footage, you'll need to make sure the camera is set to play out HDV, and choose an HDV 1080 setup.
Next, open a new untitled project, and open the log and capture window.
Now, your camera should be recognized, and you should be able to control it from the keyboard, and begin to capture.

  • IPod classic no longer being recognized by iTunes

iPod classic version 2.0.4 is not showing up in my iTunes anymore. I can see it listed in my device manager under Other Devices as iPod with a yellow exclamation point, although I've followed the instructions in this article iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows and I get an error stating "Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install it. The system cannot find the file specified."
I've uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes already. I also have an iTouch 5th gen which is being recognized fine, the same iPod classic is being recognized on my laptop fine but my pc is what has all my music is.

  • My Lacie Hard Drive is no longer being recognized by my MacBook, please help.

    Hi all,
I have a Lacie external hard drive (LaCie Rugged XL eSATA 3Gb/s | USB 2.0) that I have been using on my MacBook (timemachine) (late 2008, 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with OS X 10.9.1). One day it stopped being recognized, not showing up on the desk top, the disk utility program, etc.
I Googled many articles, blogs and support communities but have yet to find any solution. I also went to the Lacie support site and followed the trouble shooting instructions - changed my power source, usb cable, and tried the drive out on 3 different computers. The results: The drive works fine on the other computers (OS X and Windows) using the same power and usb cords. So Lacie recommened I contact Apple but my MacBook is not under warranty so I have decided to try my luck with the Apple Support Community. If any one has had this problem or knows the solution, please let me know. I would like to continue to use my MacBook with this Lacie hard drive.
    Thanks

    Hi Dibenkorn,
Yes, both USB ports are not recognizing this lacie external hard drive. I also tried the SMC reset but that did not change anything. I have another external hard drive (smaller one) and it works on this computer fine and like I said before the Lacie works fine on my other (older) MacBook. I just can not figure out what went wrong or what happened...

  • HF 10 not being recognized by imovie 08

    Hello,
I've searched through as much discussion forums as possible here to find a resolution, but nothing has worked.
My HF10 is never recognized by imovie 08, whether I have movies on the internal hard drive or on the sdhc card.
I've tried deleting the imovie7.plist file, that doesn't work. I make sure that the camcorder is on video playback mode as well. But imovie never recognizes it. When the camcorder is turned on, it doesn't even show up in Finder.
I hook up the usb cable to the mac, turn on the camcorder, and the LCD screen gives me two options, Burn DVD or PC/Printer.
I have no idea what to do next. Would be extremely grateful if someone could give me step by step instructions on how to get this working. imovie version is 7.1.4.
    Thanks.

I just took my SD card to best buy to to get some footage to evaluate & when I plug the card in, a message pops up saying "The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer. Any Ideas anybody how to import these avchd files?????

  • DVD not longer being recognized on iMac with Lion

Looking for help / ideas.  I don't do this often, but placed a DVD in mac to watch a movie and it's not being recognized.

Is it doing the same thing with all discs or just the one disc? If it is just the one disc then your drive is fine and it's more likely the disc at fault, but if it's happening with several discs it points to the drive itself.
You could try running a cleaning disc through it and see if that helps.

  • Headset No Longer Being Recognized

    Hi,
I am currently using the Nokia X3 mobile phone with the nokia headphones that came with it. Everything was working fine this morning until this afternoon i plugged my headphones in again and they are not being recognized as being inside the phone meaning that any music or radio i play is played out loud through the speaker.
I have tried using different headphones and they seem to be working fine and i have also tried the nokia headset i use for my phone in my computer and the headset also seems to be working fine in the computer.
I was wondering if someone could please tell me how to solve this problem?
any help would be much appreciated, thanks in advance.

I have the same problem, I ordered a new set of WH 05 headphones and they work fine.
It's not the first Nokia I've had this problem with, I believe its to do with the remote(end call/skip) function being damaged when the headphones are used on a non-Nokia device.
I think the moral of the story is don't use Nokia remote headphones on anything non-Nokia...

System: iMac PPC G5, 2GB DDR SRAM, running 10.5.8
    iMovie: '80 7.1.4 (585)
Camera: Sony Handycam DCR-HC2, plugged in (battery in too), in Play/Edit mode (not record mode)
    Firewire: 4-6pin, tried 2 cables.
Alert message: "No camera connected. To import video please connect a camera."
Camera on/Firewire in before starting iMovie; also tried restarting with Firewire already attached, no joy.
I DID successfully import video from this camera to another mac about two years ago -- it wouldn't recognize it at first, but I bought a new cable and that took care of it. This time I used the "old" (new last time; gold connections) AND bought a new one. Nothing doing.
Anyone have any help to offer? If I have the time I'll try to dust off the (home) machine that I used a few years ago (not sure which iMovie that was) and see if that works...
    Thanks in advance!

    Hej Sixten
May be You find help here.
    *NO CAMERA or A/D-box*
    Cable
    • Are You sure that You are using the FireWire Cable - USB-Cable will not work for miniDV tape Cameras
FireWire - Sure not using the accompany USB-Cable but bought a 4-pin to 6-pin (or 9-pin) FW one ?
    • Test another FW-Cable *very often the problem maker*.
    Camera
    • Test Your Camera on another Mac so that DV-in still works OK
    • Toogle in iMovie pref. Play-back via Camera (on<->off some times)
    • Some Cameras has a Menu where You must select DV-out to get it to work
    • Camera connected to "charger" (mains adaptor) - not just on battery
    • Camera set in Playback mode - NOT Recording mode
Does Your Camera work on another Mac ?
Sorry to say it is to easy to turn the 6-pin end of the FW-cable 180 deg wrong.
This is lethal to the A/D-chip in the Camera = needs an expensive repair.
(Hard to find out - else than import/export to another Mac ceased to work
everything else is OK eg recording and playback to TV)
    A/D-box
    • Is the dip-switches set right ?
    • Set to same standard as recorded/editing eg NTSC 29.97fps or PAL 25fps
    • Try resetting it
    Connections
    • Daisy Chaining most often doesn’t work (some unique cases - it’s the only way that work (some Canon Cameras ?))
Try to avoid connecting Camera <--> external HD <--> Mac but import directly to the Mac then move
the Movie project to dedicated external hard disk.
    • FireWire-port - Can be re-setted by - Turn off Mac and disconnecting Mac from Mains/Power for 20-30 minutes
    Mac
    • Free space on internal (start-up) hard disk ? Please specify the amount of free space.
    (Other hard disks don't count)
I go for a minmum of 25Gb free space for 4x3 SD Video - and my guess is 5 times more for 16x9 HD ones
after material is imported and edited.
    • Does Your Mac have a FireWire Port
    • White MacBooks - don't
    • MacBook-Air - don't
if not then a few Mac’s has a PCM-CIA slot and there are FW-Cards that makes a FW-port this way
    else - NO SOLUTION
Only option as I get it is either
    • Use another Mac to Capture material (to an external USB2 - Mac OS Extended formatted hard disk - or -
    • Change to another Camera that can be used with Your Mac (no there are no miniDV tape Cameras that can)
    • If Your Mac-Book has a PCM-CIA Card place - then there are FW-port-Cards and then
You can import via this - but I've not seen this on more modern Macs. My PowerBook G4
has one and this FW-Card-port works greatly.
    SoftWare
    • Delete iMovie pref file may help sometimes. I rather start a new account, log into this and have a re-try.
    • Any strange Plug-ins into QuickTime as Perian etc ? Remove and try again.
    • FileVault is off ? (hopefully)
    • Screen Saver - OFF
    • Energy Saver - OFF
    Using WHAT versions ? .
    • Mac OS - X.5.4 ?
    • QuickTime version ? (This is the heart in both iMovie and FinalCut)
    • iMovie’08 (7.1.?), 09 or 11 ?
    • iMovie HD 6 (6.0.4/3) ?
*Other ways to import Your miniDV tape*
    • Use another Camera. There where tape play-back stations from SONY
but they costed about 2-4 times a normal miniDV Camera.
    • If Your Camera works on another Mac. Make an iMovie movie project here and move it
over to Your Mac via an external hard disk.

(Should be a FireWire one - USB/USB2 performs badly)

Hi Bengt W, I tried it all, but nothing worked. Your answer has been helpfull insofar as all the different trials led to the conclusion that there was something wrong with my iMovie software. I therefore threw everything away and reinstalled iMovie from the HD. After that the exportation of DV videos (there has not been any problem with HDV videos) to my Sony camcorders worked properly as it did before. Thank you. LKN 1935

Thanks for all your suggestions. What I learned is that I had a software problem. I had something called "Nikon Transfer" on my Mac that was recognizing my Canon camcorder as a still camera and was preventing iMovie from working properly. After uninstalling Nikon Transfer and doing a reboot, everything worked great.
I never liked the Nikon Transfer software anyway--I guess I'll get a cheap card reader and use that to transfer photos in the future.

Maybe your problems is solved in the meantime, but for all others this might help as I had the same problem, also have the Sony HDR-HC7, but the 7e (Europe, PAL). I found this link today and it works perfectly
    //support.sony-europe.com/tutorials/dime/videotransfer/vtransfer.aspx site=odwenGB&sec=DVH&m=HDR-HC7E
What I exactly did.- put camera in play mode - open guide - choose connection guide - choose comp./printer (where to transfer movie to) - select connection.- i-link (on my camera) but equal to firewire - OK - choose HDV - choose NO for conversion of i.link.
Settings are shown then (VCR HDV/DV.- HDV and i.link-conv..- OFF), press OK, OK, END.
Switch camera off. Connect firewire cable to camera & Mac. Switch camera on, in play/edit mode.
Open i-movie, choose import from camera. On screen below the camera connection is shown.- DV (HDV). Now you can import, automatically or manually.
This worked perfectly for me. Took me 2 days to find out. Could not find any clear thread explaining what I had to do on the camera and the manual was not clear either.

  • Ethernet to USB adaptor no longer being recognized by my mbp

I have an older macbook pro, which is running mac os x 10.5.8. The ethernet port is broken so I have been using a mac Ethernet to USB cable because there is no wifi at my college.
