Sony Z1 Compact battery drop

Hi All, got the Z1 Compact since jan. 2014 never had any problems regarding the battery now when the battery is below 50% it suddenly drops (not drains) to 1%.  and shutsdown. i noticed this problem since lollipop update  first screenshot show it just after 20:00 the second time was today just before 17:00the empty space on the second screenshot was for shutting down and restarting the phone.. i though that might help. but didn't

I have the same problem too , i noticed that phone never goes to deep sleep always on 300mhz cpu usage !! when left on standby it only has 16 hours when 100% while it was 4 days before ! i dont know what happened after that update phone is useless now unstable and it all happened suddenly without any warnings . factory resets and pc companion repairs are useless too .
I need a solution for this problem cause its sony's fault !!

  • Sony Z1 Compact... why is the camera so poor? Comparison shots within.

    The Good...
I picked up a Sony Z1 Compact the other day, and am so far absolutely in love woth it. The speed and responsiveness are fantastic, the build quality rivals that of the iPhone, and the size is just perfection.
    The Bad...
But... I am VERY dissappointed with the camera and its poor performance. 80% of the photos I take with my phone are while on a night out with friends, usually in bars or other more dimly lit places than broad daylight. In Auto mode, photos taken in the average pub lightning are unuseable,m and look so artifical as to completely destroy any detail in the faces of the people I snap. I have also experimented with manual settings, but still the quakity is just plain poor. In fact, mny Samsung Galaxy S III blows it out of the water in this regard, images in similar conditions are much superior.
    The Ugly...
So why is this camera, a camera that uses what is theoretically a high-quality imaging unit used by point and shoot cameras, so bad in everything except broad daylight?
The answer according to not only my observations, but the observations of many professional websites who reviewed the Z1 series, is seems to be that Sony are purposefully and inexplicably messing with the final images by forcing huge amounts of processing on them. This takes a natural image, messes with the colours and tone, and then proceeds to crush any detail.
Here are some samples of what I mean, taken with Superior Auto:
    Sample 1: Z1 Compact
    A close-up portrait shot...
Look at how artificial that image looks... it's like someone applied a strange kind of gaussian blur tool in photoshop.
    Sample 2 - Z1 Compact
    A group photo...
Here again, in what was one of the better photos that I took, we see the find detail is very poor.. at full size it looks horrible pixellated, and the colours severely washed out. The blacks are also severely crushed.
    Sample 3 - Z1 Compact
Here is a shot that should in theory be detailed and natural looking. A guy near a wall in better light, with the camera held perfectly still.
Again, a horrible image... bad detail, visible artifacting, washed out colours.
    Sample 4 - Z1 Compact
In addition, using the flash causes severe light pollution on the final image, so much so that the bottom half of the photo I take has a very noticeable purpley bluish haze on it.
Look at the level of bleed entering the scene from the flash below the lens. And look at the dreadful overall image quality... the detail is simply shockingly bad. Like a camera phone from years ago.
    Samsung Galaxy S III Comparisons...
And here we have some comparison photos with a Samsung SIII, also taken in a dimply lit pub:
    Sample 1 - Samsung Galaxy S III
Look at the difference... detail is preserved, the image appears natural, and colour tones are reasonably natural. It's a great shot.
    Sample 2 - Samsung Galaxy S III
Again, here we see that the photo is much cleaner... flash lights up the subjkects as well as can be expected considering the size and power, and the colours and detail are preserved, including in the surrounding environment where the coloured lights at the top are also visible.
    Sample 3 . Samsung Galaxy S III
    And finally, a close-up portrai-style shot...
Again, not the easiest of conditions for a phont, but overall detail is good, the face is clearly visible, and the photo looks clean and detailed as you could hope for in the circumstances.
    WINNER: SAMSUNG GALAXY S III
    Conclusion...
Sorry Sony, but this level of imaging is just not acceptable on a premium device with such a high spec sensor in it. I have had better results fron devices that are 2-3 years old. Oh yes, and that's including the video camera mode which has no 24p or 60p options... come on Sony, there is a Snapdragon 800 SOC in this phone, use it.
I really hope you are going to take a serious look at this and fix it.

Wow thanks guys... it seems a LOT of people have noticed this issue. I also saw one guy with exactly the same problem as me with the flash http://www.android-hilfe.de/7156334-post40.html
The question is: how on earth did none of the Sony designers see this issue? It seems to me that someone must have seen it, but too late in the design process, so they just kept it like this and are going to pretend ignorance.
I just did the same test as inside-handy.de where I cover the flash completely and then take a picture, and the light bleeds very badly into the lens, so I guess my phone is badly affected.
I do not expect such a badly designed camera and flash system on such a premium device, and we cannot be expected to live with such a fatal flaw in a phone which is marketed as a pure camera phone.
EDIT - It seems the press are now aware and will be following this up... hopefully Sony will make a response soon when they see the overwhelming evidence http://www.inside-handy.de/news/30330-led-erzeugt-farbiges-leuchten-auf-bildern-sony-xperia-z1-compa...

  • Macbook pro 2011 battery dropped to 30% after 300 cycles

    Hello ,
I have a Macbook pro early 2011 and I have noticed that the battery suddenly is draining too fast , after installing battery health it seems that in 2 weeks the battery dropped from 86% to 30% and there is the service battery sign
    Please help !
    Charge Information:
      Charge Remaining (mAh):    1696
      Fully Charged:    Yes
      Charging:    No
      Full Charge Capacity (mAh):    1696
      Health Information:
      Cycle Count:    304
      Condition:    Service Battery
      Battery Installed:    Yes
      Amperage (mA):    -133
      Voltage (mV):    11953

Cycles mean almost NOTHING,  its short term abuse that matters.
    1. did you often drain the battery very low?
    2. did you often /always have your macbook on charge,......or did you often / always BOTH have your macbook on charge AND in sleep mode?
    3. did you often /always play realistic heavy graphics games ON battery on your notebook?
1 or 2 and 3 are harsh on the battery chemistry and therefore its longevity
all batteries are consumables meant to replaced either in their own "due time" or early due to abuse / misuse.
Proper understanding of a battery charge cycle
A charge cycle means using all of the battery’s power, whether that is at once, or over several shorter battery discharges and recharges.
    Two examples for clarification:
As a first example, where one fully charged battery is discharged down to 10%, then fully recharged, then using 10% of that full charge, this counts as 1 cycle since the total of both discharges is 100% of a full charge of use.
In the second example, where one fully charged battery is discharged down to 40%, then fully recharged, then using 40% of that full charge, this also counts as 1 cycle since the total of both discharges is 100% of a full charge of use.
While both examples are that of a single charge cycle, the first example is more aggressive against the lithium battery chemistry than is the second example. In short, collective overall gentle shallow or mid-range draining of your lithium battery is a better use condition than is the first example of deep-draining of the battery.  While both are quantitatively identical as a single charging cycle, they are wholly different qualitatively on the battery chemistry, which is directly related to its ultimate longevity and health.
In short, it is the near and mid-term life of the battery as relates to its proper care (or lack thereof) that is to be looked after.
Priorities in order of decreasing importance for battery care are:
    1. Avoiding deep discharges of the battery.
    2. Avoiding having your battery constantly on charge or on charge and in sleep mode.
    3. When playing graphics intense games, use your notebook plugged in when possible.
    4. Reduction of battery cycles by plugging into power when on the go, or when accessible.
A person who has, for example, 300 charge cycles on their battery and is recharging at say 40% remaining of a 100% charge has a better battery condition state than, say, another person who has 300 charge cycles on their battery and is recharging at say 10-15% remaining on a 100% charge. DoD (depth of discharge) is vitally important on the wear and tear on your Macbook’s battery, much more so than is the counting of charge cycles. There is no set “mile” or wear from a charge cycle in specific. Frequent high depth of discharge rates (draining the battery very low) on a Lithium battery will greatly hasten the lowering of maximum battery capacity.
Understand that a charge cycle is a general parameter of use, but is not directly related to the short-term or mid-term abuse of the battery, which can rapidly hasten a shorter lifespan, regardless of what the actual cycle count on the battery indicates.
Proper considerations for near-term care of the battery is of utmost importance. Abuse of the battery is entirely avoidable, long-term eventual old age deterioration of the battery is entirely unavoidable.
Apple’s adaptive charging system mitigates much potential for accidental battery misuse or abuse; however it is still readily possible to abuse the battery and thereby affect battery health.

My iPhone overheats. Battery drops from 100/90% to 10% sudenly. Got the device 20 days ago. I'm currently living in The Hague, there is no Apple Store in this city, took an appointment in Amsterdam, after 3 hours drive and 60€ travel cost got into the Apple Store, 73 minutes delay on my appointment the Genius  tech tells me I should leave my device for further checks in the store and come back in a week or two. Not presicely the answer I was looking for, plus he did not have any device to lend me until my iPhone was checked. Quite dissapointed, Apple was standard for quality on customer satisfaction, in the last 10 years I bought 3 MacBooks, 5 iPdas, 7 iPods, 5 iPhones and 2 iMACs... please don't let me down. Dear Ocean, one is a complaint about the quality of the device.
The second about the quality on response from Customer Service.
No worries, I'll delete both post since it seems that won't bring anything productive.

  • Compact Battery Pack CP-E4 to Speedlite 600EX-RT will not power on.

I attached the Compact Battery Pack CP-E4 to my Speedlite 600EX-RT and it will not power on. The battries are fully charged. The flash works with the battries installed in the flash unit. Is there some thing else that I am suppose to do?

    Hi Tazdog!
Thank you for posting about this.
When using the CP-E4 with the Speedlite 600EX-RT, it is still necessary to have batteries inside the battery compartment of the flash.  The flash needs internal power to function and allow you to control the flash.  With the CP-E4 connected, it will draw power from it and the internal batteries to recycle the flash.
Even though internal power is necessary, you can still set the flash to draw the recycling power from the CP-E4 only by changing Custom Function 12 to [1:External power only].

  • I just upgraded to iOS7 on my iPad4 and found it got bettery drained. Followed online tips but not working. In 2.5 hours w/o doing anything, the battery dropped from 100% to 77%. Help!

I just upgraded my iPad to iOS7 and got battery drain problem. I followed the tips online to turn off all the unneccessary features and seems not working. Because this morning, the battery drops from 100% to 77% in 2.5 hours and I didn't even work on it yet. The smart cover is already closed.

If you followed these steps : http://www.apple.com/ie/batteries/iphone.html , you can attempt to restore your device (back up your information first ,if you don't have a backup) and see if that changes anything. If issue persists , you can contact Applecare and explain the steps you followed . Don't forget to mention that this started happening after you updated to iOS 7 .

  • I'm using i phone 5, the battery drops suddenly from 20% to 5% what is the reason ? and what is the solution?

i'm using i phone 5, the battery drops suddenly from 20% to 5% what is the reason ? and what is the solution?

    There could be many causes and many solutions.  All of them start with creating a backup using iCloud or iTunes on your computer.  After that, try some of the steps written about in this blog;
    http://www.overthought.org/blog/2014/the-ultimate-guide-to-solving-ios-battery-d rain
If none of that helps, you may consider putting the iPhone into DFU mode (Google it) which will reset the firmware that monitors the battery.

  • Battery drops on 3G activation

    Hi to all,
From a month I have a strange problems.
With iOS 7 my battery life start to be a bit poor... In first time i thought it was an intense use of whatsapp or fb messanger or many notifications.
But the phone last about 5 hours of activity and 8-10 of standby.
Now I've update to iOS 8 and the battery is getting worse. (restore in DFU mode as new phone)
Now the battery last 2-3 hours and what i've found out is that if I activate the 3G the battery drops immediately...like today i have had 87% of battery life and after just activate 3G it drops to 35%...
    I think its not normal...
Do I have to replace the battery? or maybe its a software problem (ios 8 bug?)
oh and I also recalibrate the battery but the problemi is there
    thanks a lot in advance

I suffered the same problems until I read some of the helpful hints on some other discussion lines. My phone was discharging completely in about 9 hours after the upgrade but one simple hint seemed to work.
Basically the solution that worked for me was to reboot the iphone i.e. hold the sleep and home button simultaneously for about 10 s until the apple icon appears on the iphone.
So for those tempted to install OS4 the strategy is:
    (a) install itunes 9.2
    (b) connect thephon to the computer
    (c) install OS4
    (d) after the install is complete and itunes has finished with the phone
    dusconnect it from the PC.
    (e) put the phone in sleep mode
    (f) recharge the phone
    (g) reboot the phone
After doing that (tho in my case betwen step (e) and (f) was 18 hours and it was two recharges not one!) the phone battery should be restored to normal (<5% drain in 12 hours since midnight).
Some discussions suggest it might be the location finding functions causing the power drain. That wasn't the case for my set up as location functions were off and remained off during the battery drain phase. I have also left multiple apps 'live' since the reboot with no excessive power drains.
A clear indicator that the power drain is back to normal is the phone's temperature. It was quite warm to hot during the post OS4 install and discharging quickly, but after a post-install phase reboot (g), some 18 hours after upgrading the OS4, the phone started to cool (slowly). Some 2 hours post this 2nd reboot the phone was at normal ambient temp (cool to touch - it is winter in Melbourne after all!).
All this suggests to me that the automate reboot during the OS4 install isn't sufficient, and a manual reboot with the phone not connected to the computer (in my case a ASUS laptop running Win 7, and Itunes 9.2) is the solution for the present.
    Nil Desperandum!

  • OS2.0 PB turns off when battery drops below 10%

My PB will turn off when the battery drops below 10%. Is this a bug or just normal?
I've updated it to OS 2.0.
    Thank you!

It should run down to 0%.
    This is definitely not normal.

  • MBP battery dropping fast

    Hi,
had been browsing hte forum for days and cant really find the answer to my query.
i had my MBP for 6 mth, i'm displaying my batt status in %.
what happen is the % of the battery drop very fast, like less then a min drop to 1%.
In 10 min , it can dropped to 100% to 88% while i'm just browsing the net.

..... and I have a similar problem with my new replaced battery. My Apple reseller replaced my old 17" MBP battery on last Saturday but I noticed a strange effect today. Yesterday I shut down my MBP by 50% and I only had 43% this morning.... yes I alreday calibrated the new battery as described in the Apple Manual. Furthermore, I lost about 20% while I was importing 4 Audio CD's in iTunes. Do I need to replace the battery again? Or do I need to calibrate my battery again?

  • IPhone become hot and the  battery drop

    Hi All,
My iPhone is having problem. My iPhone is 3Gs, 32 GB, OS 4.2
My problem is: the phone suddenly become hot and make the battery drop, and it's already happened for 1,5 weeks. It seems my iPhone is reading something (perhaps some application) but I don't know what.
    Can someone help me?

There is some application that is stuck trying to send data. The most common app to have this problem is email, but first try a full reset (if you haven't already: Hold the HOME and SLEEP buttons until an Apple logo appears, ignoring "Slide to power off",
If this doesn't fix it next try the following:
Go into Settings/Mail,Contacts,Calendar. Tap each email account that uses PUSH and turn it off (turn off the ACCOUNT, not PUSH). Close Settings and open the email account; verify that the account does not appear. Then exit Mail to the Home screen and do a reset again.
Once the phone comes back on go into Settings and turn the email accounts back on. Fully charge the phone and test it again.
If you still have a problem you may have to restore the phone. Connect to iTunes and click the Restore button. If you have previously restored or updated and that did not fix it this time set up as a new phone.

  • Sony z3 compact cracked.

i have had my z3 compact  for 6 weeks. yesterday after my son was watching videos on it, i put it in my bag. I then took it out and the back screen was cracked. Bag was not dropped or did not hit anything. it sat on the front  seat of the car. Today to top it off it was sitting on the kitchen bench and the front screen was cracked, no one or anything had touched it. I couldnt believe it, now it doesnt work at all! The cost to repair the screens is  the same amount to by a new phone. I had a z2 phone with a case on it and i dropped it and to say the screen smahed into a thousand pieces was an understatement! I absolutely love the usability of this phone which is why i risked buying another one, but i'm not risking it for the 3rd time. Come on Sony your customer service is crap!  Complete denial doesnt work in this day and age! This phone obviously has a fault otherwise you wouldnt have so many complaints, all over the internet.

  • Sony Xperia Z1S Battery Life Issue Solved :D

Hi guys I just bought a Sony Xperia Z1s on tmobile 2 days ago,at the begining the phone was working awesome, fast ,no battery drain to worry about, but I transfered all the pics I had on my Iphone and it took like 14Gb of space on my Sony, then I suddenly realize that the phone was draining my battery sooo fast I started to worry, I looked all over the internet and I couldnot find any help,so I just went back and removed everything from my Sony(photos, contacts, everything) and I did a Factory Reset, wiped out my phone, now my phone works perfectly,no battery drain,no freezes,no crashes,I unpluged my phone from the charger at 12pm and its already 10:33pm and my battery percentage its 70%(facebook,youtube,Instagram,Vine,SMS,facebook messenger) and it only has used 30% of my battery,AWESOME!!!!!
