  • Syncing with iSync

Why is BB not able to sync with iSync?. If BB would allow this it would make things much simpler for all Mac users.
    Intel iMac
    OSX 10.6.1
    BB Pearl 8100

BlackBerry Desktop Manager syncs with Sync Services in the Mac operating system.
"Starting with Mac OS X 10.4, much of iSync's original syncing functionality has been moved into the Sync Services framework"
    source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISync
If you launch iSync and then check the preferences, just make sure the checkbox for "Enable syncing on this computer" is checked. If you have that checkbox checked, then BlackBerry Desktop Manager will be able to sync information between your BlackBerry and your Mac.

    Hello Kerrigaj,
After a re-install of OS X 10.5.8 uninstalled the E71 in iSync and moved it out of the bluetooth-device list first and completely re-installed it using the bluetooth manager (SystemPreferences/Hardware).
No extra thirdparty-software involved and ever since no problems.
Goodluck - hope it works for you.

  • Ical no longer syncs with isync or .mac

Ical on my PowerBook G4 no longer syncs with .mac or via isync. When I open ical, none of the events on the calendars display. After moving between "month" and "week" I can get the events to display. When I sync, I receive a window saying " Can't synchronize calendars and To Do items to iCal: device is not available." This is not the same as the message normally received when an external device such as an ipod is not connected. Bookmarks and Address Book are synchronizing without problem. Anybody out there experienced something similar? I have tried throwing away the ical preferences .plist from the library but that has not helped.

I don't have Panther available anymore so I'm shooting in the dark. You might try to stop syncing and then turn syncing back on (the idea is to break the connection and start new) Be sure to have a backup of anything you can't lose.
You might also try trashing iSync preferences.

  • Telephone for Home-use which will sync with isync

Is there a telephone (no mobil/no handy) which will sync my adress book with isync? Or maybe with a workaround.
    Thanks Martin

    Simple answer... No.
There are some DECT phones with Bluetooth which will allow you to send vCards exported from Address Book to them, but that's as close as it gets.
Searching Google for 'dect bluetooth vcard' will find such models.

  • Why won't my Nokia N95 Sync with isync?

I am having fun and games getting my N95 to sync with my mac using the usb cable that comes with the phone.
i have downloaded the official nokia plugin from the nokia website but isync cant see the device. i also downloaded another plugin from somewhere else but this didnt work either?
i dont have bluetooth on my mac as its an old G4 quicksilver.
how do i get all my contacts from mac address book onto my phone?
    please help!
    many thanks!

i seem to have solved the problem, well a mr paul reames helped me. it seems to be that it just wont work with just using the usb cable.
all i did to get around this was go and buy a bluetooth dongle and now it works perfectly! all very annoying though that the cable doesnt work!
just one note though about buying a dongle. most shops say that they dont know if the dongles will work on a mac or not. this is just because on most of the packaging it never mentions whether or not its mac compatible. well i can tell you that i bought an orange dongle and it works perfectly. yiou dont even need to install anything, just plug and go.
oh and yeah i was using 10.4.9 and 2.4 of isync!
just out of interest did anyone ever get it to work with the cable?

  • Auto-sync with iSync (feature request)

I have my phone with me all the time when I'm sitting down at my computer and for a while I was using e2sync with Entourage (which is a terrible program btw), and I often have thought about how nice it would be if iSync could be set to try to auto-sync on a certain interval.
Currently iSync can't even be left just running in the dock. It has to be running and open on the screen or minimized. You should be able to close its window and keep it running.
An auto-sync feature should allow you to pick which devices you would like to sync and on what interval. I.e. someone might want their PDA to sync ever hour/day and never have their phone auto-sync or vice-versa.
I looked at first hoping that their would be some app available on the internet that could solve this dillema for me, but I haven't been able to find anything. So please Apple, add this feature to iSync.
Some other features that would be nice:
    * Support for more devices
    * The ability to sync with sticky notes and possibly other software as well
    * More advanced features and choices of direction for syncing
    * Ability to set up automatic online backups to an FTP server/WebDAV server of choice
    * This would be very nice for mission critical applications
    * Would require some sort of auto-sync feature as well
    * Support syncing with another computer possibly (so that someone can have a PowerMac at home and then a PowerBook/iBook they leave connected to it that they can take certain stuff, selected by the user, with them. Settings as well).
Thank you, would love to hear what someone from Apple has to say.

Because Bluetooth mobile phones are battery powered and a sync would need a connection, this feature will never come. This was dropped by the Bluetooth specification and is not adopted by Apple consequently.
It is a "Bluetooth is not good at auto doing" thing. This answer is not helpful, however this is the reason.

  • Isync 3.0 not syncing with treo 600

I used to be able to sync with isync 1.5 with the palm conduit but now that I've upgraded I can't sync. Well I should say that address book and ical don't sync. anybody know anything about this? I know that the treo 600 or any of the treo's isn't on the supported list. I went through the enabling palm os device syncing, my palm conduit is working. I'm clueless.

You may want to double check the settings as instructed [HERE|http://gmail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=13275].

  • Can't sync Palm with Mac through iSync, only syncs with Palm Desktop

I have an older Palm Tungsten T3 that I use basically only to run a medical application that I need at work (ePocrates, which has its own conduit and auto-updates itself with hotsyncs). I haven't tried to sync it to my Mac for a long time. I use iCal for my calendaring needs, sync it with my iPod, and ignore the old stuff that's on the Palm, which I hardly ever even sync.
Today I had to reinstall the Epocrates software, and decided while I was at it I'd try to get the Palm syncing with the Mac (iCal, contacts, etc) again because it would be nice for it to show the same calendar data.
I reinstalled the newest version of Palm Desktop from scratch. Installed the ePocrates software on top of it. I have iSync 2.4. My Palm was not listed as a device initially. I chose "Enable Palm OS Syncing" from the menu; iSync then went through a series of steps in which it disabled several conduits (presumably to no longer sync with the Palm Desktop), then told me to enable the iSync Palm conduit through the HotSync manager, which I did.
I now show the Palm as a device on iSync, but it has a yellow caution icon over it and I'm not sure why. Clicking on it shows an options dialog. I chose for the first sync I wanted to erase everything on the device and then sync with the Mac. My syncs appear to work, but when the data is checked it seems to sync only with Palm Desktop. The old junky data on the Palm was not erased as requested. Newer calendar events and contacts from my Mac have not made it to the Palm. The ePocrates auto update conduit is working fine but that's the only part that is.
Any idea what's incompatible, or what I'm doing wrong here?

I have The Missing Sync and used it to sync my palm TX. I am now in the process of trying to get iCal going properly again. No longer have any calender views in iCal and the week views don't show until I have opened a month view and then go back to the week view. Very bizzare. Also have a heap of untitled calendar views in the drop down list option when looking at the info on any event - these calendar views are not accessible anywhere else though.
I'm not sure if it is Missing Sync or something I did wrong at present. Will also throw the problem to the Missing Sync people to see what they say. Will let you know. It seemed to work really well without needing the palm desktop!

  • Can't sync palm m505 with isync

I seem to be having difficulties establishing a connection. Can someone please walk me through the steps of syncing my palme with isync. I can see the device and begin the process but can not seem to establish a connection.
    Thanks
    Cheryl

What sort of entries are shown in your HotSync log regarding these attempts to synchronize? [Your log is the place to start with troubleshooting.]

  • Missing Sync refuses to work with iSync

My Missing Sync (version 5 for Palm) can see my Palm via USB and all other conduits (AvantGo, TimeSync, Photos) are syncing without incident.
However, it refuses to play nice with iSync.
    • iSync is enabled in the list of conduits.
    • Palm Syncing is enabled in the iSync app.
    • A Palm device is listed in iSync and contact and calendar items are selected for syncing (selectively confining the sync to contacts or calendar items only does not fix this problem)
    • I disable all other conduits (which work, but to be sure) and leave only the iSync conduit active in Missing Sync.
    • I attempt a sync. The Palm chimes and its screen shows a sync in progress.
    • The Missing Sync program also changes to show a sync in progress but then NOTHING HAPPENS. After 5 minutes the Palm device times out, and Missing Sync, despite the two constant barber-poles, becomes unresponsive. Even trying to cancel the sync by clicking the cross in MS is useless, which means I can't even check a log file to see where the problem is. I am forced to force-quit MS and relaunching reveals no iSync data was synced.
    I have tried:
    • Hard resetting the Palm
    • Forcing the Mac to overwrite the Palm
    • Clearing the iSync cache data and preference files.
    • Repeatedly toggling the iSync conduit.
The main problem is the lack of feedback from Missing Sync about why the connection is hanging, or even what it is attempting at the point the process fails. The iSync log reveals it was "connected" but says no more than that. The Sync History log in MS reveals a sync operation starting and then nothing more.
Obviously the Palm and the Mac can see each other, and as I said, all other conduits work perfectly.
I note the following entries in this logfile at the point things fall over:
    console.log:
    2007-07-19 17:15:36.512 Conduit Manager[270] CFLog (21): Cannot recognize type of executable for CFBundle 0x35d6f0 </Library/Application Support/Palm HotSync/Conduits/Apple> (not loaded)
    Jul 19 17:15:37 Nathan-Zamprogno crashdump[271]: PowerPCCompatibility crashed
    Jul 19 17:15:37 Nathan-Zamprogno crashdump[271]: crash report written to: /Users/localadmin/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/PowerPCCompatibility.crash.log
I would suggest that this error message suggests at the cause. Has anyone else had this experience? Can anyone help?
    Thanks.

I guess I simply cannot fathom why you would want to synchronize a Palm device under Mac OS X 10.4.x using the iSync Palm Conduit instead of the Mark/Space Contacts, Events and Tasks conduits supplied with the Missing Sync for Palm OS? What can this possibly achieve?
And, despite your report that the iSync Palm Conduit is active, this error entry shows that it clearly is not: Cannot recognize type of executable for CFBundle 0x35d6f0 </Library/Application Support/Palm HotSync/Conduits/Apple> (not loaded)
Apple is the Finder name of the iSync Palm Conduit. It appears in your Missing Sync—or alternatively, HotSync—conduit list simply as iSync Conduit.
Why not simply configure the Missing Sync to use its own specialized contact, event and task conduits and ditch the iSync Palm Conduit?

  • Setting up iSync on 2 Computers to sync with Treo 650

I have a iMac G-4 and a new iMac G-5. The first sync was done on the G-4 with HotSync using the USB connection which did find and sync the G-4's Address Book for some unknown reason, but not iCal. Now, I'm working with the G-5 and trying to set up iSync with the Treo. Using Bluetooth, the G-5 can find the Treo but I get a dialog box that says "iSync cannot connect to this device".
Could there be a conflict because the G-5 is using all the data that was transferred over from the G-4?
I would appreciate any help out there. Thanks in advance.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
No, there is not inherent conflict, although you must understand several things:
It is a really bad idea to transport your Palm device as an effective 'storage vault' between two Macintosh computers, and synchronize with each. The correct approach is to pick one of these computers to synchronize your Palm device with, and keep the other Macintosh 'in sync' with the remainder of the pool using either .Mac Sync or MySync.
    http://www.mildmanneredindustries.com/mysync
If you want to synchronize using Bluetooth, you should pick one Bluetooth-capable Macintosh to synchronize with, stick with that machine, then pair them by initiating the pairing from the Treo and confirming this pairing from your Macintosh. The first time you synchronize, you should overwrite the contents of your Palm device, so be sure that you are prepared to do so before you synchronize. If this means first synchronizing with .Mac Sync or MySync, then do that first.
If you intend to use USB instead, again pick one machine to perform your Palm synchronizations with, but it need not be a Bluetooth capable machine. If you intend not to switch machines but do want to easily switch between the faster USB path and the more convenient Bluetooth one, purchase a copy of the Missing Sync for Palm OS which facilitates this activity. Switching back and forth using iSync is problematic.
If you intend to use iSync and have added your Palm device to using the Enable Palm OS Syncing… option under the Devices menu—regardless of whether you have chose to use USB or Bluetooth—then you should be ready to proceed once you have followed the instructions which appear in the dialog boxes which appear when you select the option. [There is no other way to add a Palm device to iSync.] You must configure the actual synchronization profile before you proceed, however, by selecting the Tungsten device labeled with your HotSync name in the main window of iSync, an action which will drop down a configuration pane to enable your Contact and Calendar options.
If you intend to use the far more flexible and robust Missing Sync for Palm OS, then you must follow the instructions they provide for installing and configuring that application, again being sure that your first overwrite the contents of your handheld during the initial synchronization event.
Be sure that before you do so, in either case, that you back up your calendaring and contact information using the built-in back up options under the File menus of both iCal and the Address Book.

  • What's the smallest, coolest phone that syncs reliably over BT with iSync?

I've been using a Treo 600 & 650 for the last several years. I've been very pleased with it, and it syncs reliably to Address Book and iCal. I'm now out of contract with Sprint and can change carriers if I wish. I don't really need the larger PDA phone and would consider something smaller that syncs reliably over BT with iSync?
    Any recommendations?
    QB12

    1) Some revisions of motorola phones have a problem over BT so if you have on of these revisions you will have to use USB
    2) On Motorola phone, one contact is one phone number (it's Motorola's out-dated database, you can't change it). However, Motorola is aware of this problem so it included a way in the phone's Address Book settings to "coalesce" phone numbers that have the same contact name.
