Soooo slow

My macbook pro has slowed down substantially and programs are shutting down or giving errors (Iphoto specifically). I heard that I should save all my data and restore the macbook to factory settings.
But how about all my mail data and settings? How do I save those settings and will a factory restore give me my speed back?

The simplest answer would be to set up a Time Machine backup, then, after the clean install, use migration assistant (only choosing Users).
The difficult answer: Back up the entire Library folder. Replacing it can be a long-winded process involving enabling the root user on the system.

Firefox on Android Jellybean 4.2.2 is soooo slow?

I am a long time user of Firefox on my PC. Could not do without it anymore :)
So ofcourse I did install it right away when I got my Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 WiFi with Android Jellybean 4.2.2.
And it is like a total other world: it is sooooo slow. It takes such a long time before the pages are even loading. It's like FF is first figuring out what it has to do with the URL:
"Eh? What do I have to do now? Wait, wait, don't tell me, I know it! Ehr ... what does he mean? What was it again? I know I have to do something now but what was it again? Oh, he wants me to go to that URL! I think? Yes, I am sure now that I have to go to that URL."
And then the page is loading. The actual loading of the page is just fine, no slowness there.
I did try all kind of things mentioned here at the forum (clearing cache, moving cache to another place, uninstall FF and install FF fresh again, and so on) but nothing helps. And no add ons installed at all.
I also did try it with and without syncing with my desktop FF but no result.
The native Chrome browser is lightning fast in comparison to FF.

I am using Firefox Android 28.0.1.

Have to say though: did a lot of searching here in the forum, on Google and so on. And what strikes me is that there are rather a lot of comments/complaints stating that FF was fast but since a few months ago it became slower. Could not track the precise date or FF version but it looks like this started around 4 months ago?

Lightroom 5.4 to Lightroom Mobile sync is soooo slow - why no local sync?

I am testing the new Lightroom 5.4 with Lightoom Mobile. What really annoys me is the fact that all photos are going up to the Creative Cloud. I have private pictures which should be private. Always. No upload. No Cloud sync. It is important!
Speed is the next major problem. LR 5 is way too slow for a fluid workflow. But this is mentioned from other users.
What absolutely makes me sad ist the sync speed of LR5.4 to LR Mobile. 100 Photos took up to 4 hours. On a typical wedding I have 2000+ images. Depending on the speed of the first 100 photos I have to wait 80+ hours? Are you kiddding me? This makes LR Mobile unusable. My clients are expecting results fast. Speed is one factor to the next contract.
Overall, I don't want to sync anything into the Cloud. I want a to use my fast local sync via WiFi or USB. Only those two options. I want to sync photos even without any internet connection successfully and quickly.
I'm fine with authentication with Adobe servers for licensing verification. But that's it. The rest should be configurable by the users whether they Cloud sync or not.

Tom, thank you for taking your time to come here and enlighten us with the decision making process behind what was done. Like it was said before here, the Lightroom Mobile so far has been very, very frustrating. I came home very excited to test it and make my dream come true. To be able to take my catalog (or a shoot) with me on the subway, etc and be able to choose the photos on my iPad. See, I am a photographer and I shoot mainly fashion and beauty, so my workflow starts as soon as I finish shooting by importing all images into Lightroom and then going through the painstaking process of choosing which picture to use. I would shoot anywhere between 5-12 looks in a day, around 100 photos per look and at the end of the process I need to choose only one photo from each look. This normally involves going back multiple times to be able to get to only one from each look. The LR Mobile would have been the perfect solution for me, making me able to look at photos while out of the office, on the subway, at home, etc. It would have made my editing process much faster (or less slow). Instead, I've been sitting and waiting for 6 hours so far and only 18 photos showed up on my iPad (from the 500+ that were chosen to be synced from my desktop LR. Now I know it's not my internet that is making it that slow because I have 80+Mbps of download and 40+Mbps upload. And that haven't helped me much as my LR is stuck on "Syncing 527 photos" for the last 5 hours. Most professional photographers that I know deal with a huge amount of photos from a photoshoot. Wedding, fashion, advertising, we all shoot 1000+ images in any given work day. To come home and have to wait 100 hours before we are able to edit on the iPad is just not useful. This will be useful for the amateur photographer that will take photos of their children/dog/flowers and want to be able to show their guests the photos without having to get them in front of the computer.
Now I understand what you said about having to have a centralized place so that all the clients up to date on the changes, and I think that is great but I also think that it's paramount that there's a different way of syncing, a faster, more efficient way. Even if it is, like mentioned, not a "everything in sync" solution. Something like sync the desktop to the iPad and only those two work together. If both are changed before the next sync, a "the 'blabla' catalog has been changed since you last synced, do you want to overwrite it?" takes care of the problem, much in the same way that Photoshop asks us when we are saving something that has been somewhat modified by some external agent between saves. But the beauty of shooting all day, loading everything in Lightroom at night at the hotel and in the morning catch your flight and edit your shoot on the iPad while traveling, or being able to show the clients on the iPad right after you shot the wedding, or (what I was dreaming was going to be possible just to have my dreams crushed when started to use it) shooting tethered on the job and giving the art director the iPad so that he/she can see the shots without having to stay in front of the computer during the whole shoot. Now THAT would be a game changer! That was what I was expecting from LR Mobile but unfortunately got disappointed. I'd pay for the app alone if it did that!

Back-up with Time machine is soooo slow.

First back-up with Time Machine. I have a lot of pictures but not much else - but bout 80 GB. Not using encryption.
The back-up has now run for 24 hours - and has only managed to back-up 8 GB - reminaing time estimated to 8 days !
Back-up by wire to external hard disc (USB 3.0 for HD and 2.0 for Mac)
Is this normal?
Anything I could do to speed it up?

Yes TM is slow but it depends on the drive interface and disk drive and whether they have trouble with Mac or Lion (or ML)
I prefer to clone and use one partition for that, say 200GB out of your (1.5TB?) drive and use the rest for TM.

Why is my import from DVD-R going soooo SLOW??

OK, I'm very new in the Mac world and am still trying to move my photos from my PC. I burned all of the photos to a DVD-R using the Kodak gallery program. I have 3 DVDs of photos.
Now I am in the process of importing into iPhoto. I opened iPhoto, inserted the DVD #1, and then selected import to library. The first thousand photos imported fine, but the last hundred or so have taken FOREVER...like several minutes per photo.
Should I let this just go overnight, or stop the import and try again?
Has anyone ever experienced this slowness when importing from DVD?

You would be better off copying the files to a folder on the desktop and then into iPhoto as copying from a disk the file first has to be copied to a temp file and then into iPhoto. I don't know how far you are in the current disk import but for the future ones I'd definitely copy to a folder first and then into iPhoto.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.≤br>
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

Desktop Manager and Roxio Media Manager Soooo Slow

Desktop Manager and Roxio Media Manager are so slow. Why? Just getting them to open takes five minutes or more.

I loaded the Desktop Manager and Roxio Media Manager 2 days ago. It completely crippled my laptop (running Vista, 4GB RAM etc), which previously ran very well.
I suspected it was Roxio when I watched it take 20 minutes to install.
Worringly, my laptop was crippled without the Desktop or Roxio software being used. The response rate was once every 5 minutes, and when eventually getting to the Task Manager and looking at the Processes and Applications (a 15 minute job!), there was nothing untoward.
Having uninstalled them and rebooted, the laptop is back to its former glory so quite what Roxio was doing in the background, I have no idea. I won't be touching it again.

Importing songs from cds soooo slow.....agghh ive no patients!!

when im importing songs from a cd to itunes it is soooooo slow. the time it takes to import the song i could have played it twice! This isnt a major problem as it is still in working order but the speed is rediculous. Does anyone know if there is a setting which i can adjust the speed that songs copy from a cd????? if someone could help it would be great....for my sanity's sake!!!!

I have an elderly Toshiba running XP Pro-SP 2. With iTunes 6.0x I was able to import CD's at 4X-6X. Considering the CD Drive maxes out at 8X - that was OK. Well, 7.0 imported at .1X that is POINT ONE X. And "upgrade" to 7.0.1 increased the speed to a wopping .8X.
I tried making a second library. That got me up to 2X. (My library is over 20Gig - so it seemed to fall into the large library problem zone.)
I went back to 6.0.4 - I am not a happy camper since I couldn't find a "recent" copy of an older version of iTunes. Ended up "rebuilding" my library - lost playlist in the process.
I am happy to have 6.0.4 back and running. I never connected my iPod to 7.0 -
It will be a long time before I install a new version of iTunes. There was no reason for me to upgrade. I was just a little bored when iTunes announced "New Version - want to upgrade?" My fault.

Why is Firefox 3.6 soooo slow to load and start?

I recently upgraded my version to 3.6 - as advised on your website when I saw a newer version was available. However it takes ages to load up and start. It can take at least 5 minutes to start up! Driving me to start using IE!!! I have uninstalled and re-installed from your website several times and it doesn't change anything. I have used a new profile and still the same! Occasionally after 10 mins it comes up with a dialog box say Firefox can;t find or is having trouble running a script. After first seeing this I uninstalled and reinstalled again as I thought it had become corrupt. But after doing this several times it is still the same old slow Firefox! And I thought new versions were supposed to improve things!

Why is my internet soooo slow?

My internet has been so slow now. I want some answers to why this is happening, or how I can resolve it before I call customer service.
I mean it is VERY SLOW. Feels like dial-up all over again. I have had verizon for 5-7 years or so. And every year it seems they are making it slower. What can I do?

Why soooo slow?

I recently purchased Elements 8 and have spent the last few weeks putting all of my pictures in the Organizer. Everything was running fine, then all of a sudden the program began running so slow that it's unuseable. One minute it ran fine, the next it took 5+ minutes to import and catagorize a group of 12 photos. If I click on one of my categories and then want to switch to another it takes over a minute. I tried installing it on another computer, downloaded my catalog and have the same problem. I have approx 12000 items in my catalog but I don't think that could be an issue. Please help!

There are a number of possibilities:
- Make sure it isn't still generating thumbnails -- look for the spinning hourglass in the lower-left corner. When it is, PSE 8 can be very slow.
- Disable the Auto-Analyzer and automatic face recognition via Edit > Preferences > Auto-Analyzer Options > Analyze All Media and > Recognize People Automatically. (You can still recognize faces when you invoke Find > Find People For Tagging.)

Internet soooo slow kids cannot even play xbox liv...

i live 2 miles away from an exchange yet my internet connection is about 0.5 mb, its soooooo slow, my mother lives in lanzarote and laughs at how **bleep** my connection is. i have 3 kids to want to watch youtube and skyanytime + .
the worst thing is that my hubby is an employee and i would get free btvision, but my line it TOO SLOW for it lol

Hi please post your full hubstats by entering 192.168.1.254into your browser address bar and then navigate to advanced / connection /broadband and post the full results and also run the Bt speedtest

Then some one will be able to advise you further
Your speed is related to your line length ( attunuation) and quality even though you may be 2 miles from your exchange your line could be up to twice that depending on how it is routed to the exchange nothing to do with this day and age I am afraid but more the lawsof physics

OTN FTP Soooo Slow

I'm trying to DL JDeveloper 3.1 for evaluation, but the FTP site is so slow... Does Oracle have any mirror sites? I appreciate being given access to these tools for evaluation as a developer, but think it reflects poorly on Oracle that the fastest DL I can consistently get on a high speed connection (cable modem) is about 8k/sec. Thanks in advance

OMG!! Speed soooo slow

Over the last few weeks i have had to endure speeds sooo slow it would be better for me to carry the messages personally to my contacts.
I have connected to the master socket, retested, turned everything off, retested, tried different channels,different routers.
My speeds lift to 3500kbps after restarts but soon drops back to 120-150kbps!!

Hmm... Have u tried change filter ?? and router is pluged via filter?? Its sunday if u dont scary to remove two bolts after removing faceplate and check that wires are pushed in slot/ screwed ( those more expensive sockets has bolts to tight wires instead of V slots which is simple push in fit).
ps: You are only need two wires which are connected to middle slots, three slots on left and three on right, when u look on the socket and remove wires which are connected to other V slots. They are not in use.
Now most important on the middlle V slots u will find more then two cables connected (if you have more then one phone socket) look on wires, yes remove, just look on colors which are going on which side. Use tape, to mark one side and leave only wires which are coming from outside and disconnect all which are going inside your home to make sure that " your dog eat some wires and without insulation they make problem, your child pun paper spin in phone socket etc."
In standard you will find 4 wires, twom from outside and two which are used to extend your line around your home .
master share on slave, slave reshare it to another etc.
* sometimes you may find 6 or I saw even 8 wires in master socket. Everything is depends of person who fit that extension, BT or electrician, owner etc. This can give u diffrent variations of colors wires which are active.
From outside active is orange and white orange, inside blue and white blue etc.
Its really simple. When I was doing communications, I saw paper spin, little wires in phone sockets, dog eat a bit of cable and by cousing short circuit on extension, brodband couldnt connect or keep reconnecting, wife bought new phone and connected it without filter and every call broadband fail, kids bought phone for 4 GBP and beacuse u have free wekkends in plan they use phone without filter and call their friends etc.
Keep only wires in "2" and "5" numbers.
2. Pull out wires first from one side, and put back that wire which is coming from outside ( you can push them back with flat electric screw driver, make sure that fit well for both sides )
3. Now sort out right side, remove both wires and put back that which is coming from outside
4. First connect filter which cable from the router and now power on router.
Check stats should be ok.
