Sorry - Another Memory question

Hi everyone,
Reading around here about upgrading memory - especially the "you can install more than the stated 1Gb" - I would like to take the plunge and get 1GB memory for my iMac (user-slot). I've been on the Crucial site and have seen this RAM module: - http://www.crucial.com/uk/store/mpartspecs.aspx?mtbpoid=B20F277EA5CA7304 - for what seems a reasonable £65. Would this RAM be OK in my iMac? - You see I also have an iBook (1ghz G4, 12 inch screen) - So if it doesn't work in the iMac I could use it in the iBook instead - Or if the 1Gb works fine in the iMac I would like to put my existing iMac's user-slot memory (512mb) into my iBook's free slot... If this plan makes sense to anyone??? - I would love to know from any of the experts out there if this plan is viable. Thanks.
iMac 1.25Ghz G4 - 17"LCD   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   768Mb / 80Gb HD / SuperDrive

Sounds like an excellent plan. I have 1.5Gb of Crucial RAM in my iMac G4 1.25GHz. (1Gb "Factory" and 512Mb in the "User" slot). I see no reason whatsoever why this shouldn't work. Crucial won't guarantee it to work in there though but they will for the iBook G4.
Here are the fitting instructions:
iMac G4.
iBook G4.
kind regards

  • Sorry another upgrade question Emagic Logic 6 Platinum to Logic 8

    My question here is about upgrading. I have searched the forum and Apples site but have not been enlightened.
    A few years ago I briefly used Logic as the front end on a PTs HD system I owned which I still have the dongle for. This was back in 2003. Im pretty sure it was then called Logic 6 platinum and it was before Apple bought Emagic
    I no longer have those original disks but I have a hunch they wouldnt be compatible with the newest OS Is that correct?
    So, if I go ahead and buy the upgrade how will the software know I'm upgrading if I cant load the old version...which I would rather not do anyway. If I have to produce a serial code that was held on a sticky bit of paper, I dont have that now, and the store I originally bought Logic from has since gone under.
    IF I can upgrade, would I get the DVD's with the samples + Manual, or do they send only a disk with the programme.

    Correct, you don't need the disks, and you don't need to install old software versions.
    When you run the installer, it will ask for your new LP8 serial number, and will then ask you to insert your XSkey so it can check you have a Logic authorisation valid for the upgrade - then it will install LP8, and you will no longer need the key plugged it when running Logic.

  • Sorry, another /t Question!

    When i run my code and have finished incorporating \t the correct way, thanks to cotton, captain morgan and the other fellow ^^; Everything looks fine except one part where \t does not align with the others.
    Heres the code and if you scroll down to
    Prev Balance: $
    Addition Charges: $
    What i have to do is line them up with \t, but Intrest for sone reason is off mark, Any other ideas?
    import java.util.*;
    public class Account
              public static void main(String[]args)
                   double prevBalance, extraCharges, newBalance, minPymt;//minPymt= minimum payment
                   double interest=.02;//interest is 2 percent.
                   Scanner scan =new Scanner(System.in);
                   System.out.println("Enter your previous balance:");
                   prevBalance=scan.nextDouble();
                   System.out.println("Enter additional charges");
                   extraCharges=scan.nextDouble();
                   interest=interest*prevBalance;
                   newBalance=0;
                   minPymt=0;
                   if(prevBalance>0)
                             prevBalance=prevBalance;
                             newBalance=interest+prevBalance+extraCharges;
                   if(newBalance<50)
                             newBalance=newBalance;
                             minPymt=0;
                   else if(newBalance>50 && newBalance<300)
                             minPymt=50;
                   else if(newBalance>300)
                             minPymt=(.20*newBalance);
                   System.out.println("Previous Balance:\t$"+prevBalance);
                   System.out.println("Additional Charges:\t$"+extraCharges);
                   System.out.println("Interest:\t$"+interest);
                   System.out.println("New Balance:\t$"+newBalance);
                   System.out.println("Minimum Payment:\t$"+minPymt);
    }Thanks again!

    \t will generally mean "advance to the next column
    that's a multiple of 8."
    So if you have
    12345\tZ
    123456789\tZThe first Z will be in column 8 and the second in
    column 16.
    I haven't looked at your code to see if that's what's
    going on, but that's my guess.
    If you want stuff to line up in columns, use
    String.format. (Or System.out.printf, if it exists).

  • Over heating?sorry another fan question

    are these temperatures too hot? they are like this most of the time
    http://damon.clickgarden.net/fan.png

    First I agree your temps are normal and at the same time look fairly good to me. Second you do not have a problem unless your machine is crashing or shutting down. There are many factors that affect your temperature not just Application/CPU usage. One thing that I look at when judging how normal your temperatures are is the Ambient temp which indicates the air temperature inside of your iMac. In general if your iMac is in a hot environment your Ambient temperature will be much higher. Yours being 27 is quite average for a mid to upper 70's room temperature. You didn't say which iMac you have?

  • Sorry another silly question regarding the VCAP 5.5 related to the vMA

    If I remember correctly the vMA got dropped from the VCAP 5.5 exam however it is still in the actual exam lab available to use (feel free to correct me if I am wrong, my brain is pretty nuked at the moment from study).
    My understanding is that if I invest some time in using the vMA it may be beneficial can I confirm the vMA is ready joined to a any domain and available to use in the actual exam/lab environment?  If so I will try to master it and do everything via it during the next few days

    You will most likely be using the vMA appliance during the exam.

  • Sorry - another masking question  o_O

    So -- I have a keyframed animation and I want to apply a mask to it, but I want the mask to be stationary (for maintaining a clean horizon line in this case -- pixelated mountains rising and lowering off in the distance). I tried both the Image Mask and the mask tool in the toolbar, but can't seem to get the mask to sit still.
    I tried looking through the backlog but couldn't figure it out.
    Thanks very much for any help.
    Evan

    Hrm -- tried that (both using image mask and the mask tool) but no luck. Am I perhaps using the wrong settings on the mask?
    I've linked to a screen, which hopefully clarifies things a bit: http://giantmecha.com/uploaded_images/mountains1.png
    Thanks,

  • Sorry, another dumb question.

    When I first got my iphone 4s I was able to download a bible.  That was great.  Now I forget what I did to do that.
    I tried to get into the app store and could not connect to the app store.  Do I have to sign into Apple before I can access the app store?  I just cannot understand why sometimes something works for me and other times it doesn't.
    I got help here before and I tried to do it on my own, but I couldn't.  Thanks

    No you do not have to be signed into Apple to use the App Store.
    You must have an Apple ID account and sign in to that on your iPad. See Settings > iTunes & App Store, and login there with yor Apple ID.
    However, it sounds like you are have an internet communication problem in that you cannot reach the Apple web site or App Store.
    Can you reach other internet sites like http://www.cnn.com/ ?

  • Another newb question: multiple virtual servers

    Hi, I have yet another ignorant question. I have several unrelated web projects that I am working on, and I would like to be able to set up a virtual server for each one for testing purposes, such as: http://project1, http://project2, http://project3. Can someone tell me if this is doable, and if there are any tutorials/resources on this for someone who has 0 experience running a web serer? Sorry for being so ignorant!

    Yes, it is doable.
    You can setup virtual server either by IP or by name.
    If you have one IP, and want to set them up by name (ex. http://project1, http://project2, http://project3) you can do so easily with this type of configuration:
    <virtual-server>
        <name>mydomain</name>
        <http-listener-name>http-listener-1</http-listener-name>
        <host>*.mydomain.com</host>
        <document-root>/www/domain</document-root>
      </virtual-server>
      <virtual-server>
        <name>myotherdomain</name>
        <http-listener-name>http-listener-1</http-listener-name>
        <host>*.myotherdomain.com</host>
        <document-root>/www/myotherdomain</document-root>
      </virtual-server>
    ....The important part here is that
    a) all virtual servers share the same HTTP listener
    b) which virtual server serves the request depends on the $HOST request header send by the client. Sun Web Server does the matching for you. It will match $HOST vs. the virtual server's host attribute. Depending on which site you connect to the right virtual server will be used.
    c) if the $HOST request header does not match any of the virtual servers, then the default virtual server defined in the HTTP listener will be used.
    To create a virtual server, use the Admin GUI, access the configuration, and then add new virtual server. Or use the following CLI command.
    wadm> create-virtual-server --config=myconfig --http-listener-name=http-listener-1 --document-root=/www/docs/myserver.com --host-pattern=myserver.com --log-file=../logs/myserver.com-error_logs myserverHost pattern will be used for matching. Some of this elements might be optional.
    Hope that helps. And keep the questions coming :D
    Edit: Also check the documentation

  • Memory question on Arch x86_64. 2x2048 MB = 3950 MB?

    I have a naive memory question for some knowledgeable folks.  My machine has 2x2 Gb sticks which should total to 4096.  When I do a free -m under Arch, it's only showing 3950.  Is the remaining 146 reserved or..?
    $ free -m
    total used free shared buffers cached
    Mem: 3950 422 3528 0 28 157
    -/+ buffers/cache: 236 3714
    Swap: 2000 0 2000

    Thats a really good question and the result you get is normal as far as I know.
    Part of it (a small part I believe) is used by the kernel, the rest of it, and this is where things are not so clear, is reserved as an agp apperture.
    As far as I could tell (I have stumbled uppon that too) the problem seems to be that some bioses don't setup everything as they should.
    The thing is that some devices can only handle 32bit addresses so their address is somewhere until the 4GB mark, because the bios doesn't setup the memory remapping correctly (sometimes the user has no way set anything related to memory remapping, this seems to be the case with some desktop boards and most notebooks/laptops). This memory remapping "problem" was anticipated and there are ways to properly handle that.
    For some reason unknown to me (and most people that have stumbled upon this) many bioses don't setup (or allow the setup) of proper remapping. To add to the problem the kernel seems to reserve 128MB of agp aperture by default even if you don't have an agp card, this reserved address space falls in the first 4GB of addressing space therefore stealing you some memory.
    I have tried to regain those MB, I have tried to recompile the kernel with a different config and I've tried several kernel boot parameters and the only thing I could regain was 64MB if I recall correctly. I can't find now what I have added to regain those 64MB, I didn't keep that option in the kernel line, 64MB were not worth the possibility of having problems later on.
    I know its a pain to have that voice in the back of your head telling you that there is some memory that is being wasted, specially if you have tried a 32bit kernel with support for 64GB of address space and got 4050 MB of usable memory, but just leave it as it is, it's not worth the time and the trouble.

  • Memory Question "4x1 Gig or 2x2 Gig?" what is faster?

    Memory Question "*4x1 Gig or 2x2 Gig*?" what is faster?
    I'm still don't know if witch to choose?
    4 times 1 gigabyte Ram Memory is cheaper but if I choose for 2 times 2 GB Ram I can always beef it it later.
    And is my memory faster if I'm using 4 slots with 1 gig over 2 slot with 2 gig?
    I'm asking this question because I think using 4 times the memory bandwidth will be faster?
    http://www.janmaartendewit.com

    Hello Jan
    Welcome to Apple Discussions
    The iMac (Late 2009): Installing or replacing memory article and your User's Guide are pretty clear, they both say that +"You can use 2 GB or 4 GB RAM SO-DIMMs of 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM in each slot."+ and not 1GB modules. > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3918
    To upgrade your ram you will want at least 2 more 2 or 4GB modules and add that to the current 2 x 2GB of ram. > http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/iMac/DDR321.527

    LizMaddock,
    you can reset the input source to Spanish by selecting the Keyboard pane of System Preferences, selecting the Input Sources tab, and pressing the “+” button in the lower-left corner to select one of the Spanish input sources. The “Spanish – ISO” input source is most similar to the physical Spanish keyboard layout.

  • Sorry for stupid question.  I have just got a download of a piano accompaniment (not from itunes).  I have ?downloaded it - where did it go?!  I cannot find it anywhere.  Thank you so much.

    Sorry for stupid question.  I have just got a download of a piano accompaniment (not from Itunes).  I have played it and think downoaded it but where did it go?!  I cannot find it anywhere!  Thank you!

    Generally it is not possible to download anything from a web site when using an iPhone, so if you were just using Safari, you probably didn't actually download the track but just played it from the web site. If you used some other app, tell us what app and someone may be able to provide further assistance.

  • N81 8GB can there be another memory card working w...

    ....................................................i wanna know becuz i wanna buy a n81 8GB and thinking of putting another memory card? Is the 8GB hard drive or a memory card. And is there any Wi-Fi?And is the screen bigger than N72? And one of my friends is saying that there is a problem with the buttons(the numbers) like they are messed up and when he puts it in his pocket the button get pressed.
    Nokia N72

    the 8gig is internal memory (hard drive) and you don't have a slot for another memory card...only the new n96 has that accessibilty and it has 16 gig internal hard drive...the screen is quite big...and the keys are not a problem 4 me....

    1. I didn't know the answer to your first question, but I googled it and it says the item is the in-call audio boost.

    2. isn't this setting determined by the carrier? So it's not a setting in the phone, but when you call in to your voicemail you can change your options?
