I'm not sure if this is the right area to post this, but the question is at least quite simple;
what's the best, quickest, 'easiest' way of remotely logging on from home to work i.e.
to access and use applications and files.

Leopard's built-in screen sharing. Search your Mac Help for "screen sharing" for information and instructions. If you need further assistance, you can probably get lots if help in the Mac OS X 10.5 Networking forum.

The sum icon in the bottom left hand section of the window does not highlight or show any total as I understand from the video that you can drag whatever total is here onto the relevent position on your spreadsheet. To sum a column, use a formula such as this one in Cell A6
Type this in a cell below your data:
=SUM(A2:A4) or whatever range of cells you want to sum. The easy way is to type:
=SUM(
and then drag or shift-click to select the range of cells. Close the formula with a final bracket ")".

To see the sum (and other simple statistics) in the bottom left, select a range of cells. That tells Numbers which cells you are refering to.
The videos are good, but the Numbers'09 User guide, and the Formulas and Functions User Guide are better. Download them from the Help Menu in Numbers.

Question - any way to set a Page Item in a worksheet to default to All ?

Well, I seem to have run across an interesting situation here. I have a table worksheet with page items. I have noticed one thing while testing this new worksheet/workbook. If I pick a value for one of the page items (and with page items, it seems I can only pick one value at a time) and then save the worksheet, close the workbook, and then reopen the workbook and run the worksheet, Discoverer has retained the page item value as the value when I saved it, rather than defaulting back to <All>. So I quickly learned a new lesson with this darn Discoverer product - make sure all page items set to the <All> value before I save a worksheet that I am going to want to promote to Production.
Well, now I have run into a situation where based on the conditions I have to set in the workbook, I have a Page Item in the worksheet that today has only 1 value that pulls into the worksheet. When I do the drop down on that Page Item, it only shows the one value. It does not give me the ability to pick the <All> option. So I am unable to save the workbook with the <All> value today for that page item. There are other potential values for this Page Item that could show up in the future.
Now granted if this were to happen, the Viewer user could do the drop down on the page item at that time and pick the <All> value at that time. But alas, since they are not the owner of the workbook, they could only save as a new workbook, with themselves as the owner - cannot change the production workbook so it would be changed going forward. This also means the user has to realize that they are missing data and that the fixed page item value is the cause of that, which I am skeptical that they will be able to figure out. So I really want this page item value to default to <All> when the users open and run this worksheet.
So here is my question - does anyone know of a way to set the Page Item value to be <All> automatically when a worksheet is run?
I hope this makes some sense. Always a challenge to explain an issue well. It took me a bit to realize that when saving a worksheet/workbook, it was retaining the selected page item values when I performed the save. It is also very unusual to have a situation where a page item does not currently have multiple values. So this may be a situation that few people have run across.

Ah, there is a potential workaround, as I have finally figured out. The workaround does require that you have the ability to bring in multiple values for the page item from the worksheet run result set. If you have a situation, like I have, where today you only have one valid value, you will still have a problem.
The workaround is this. Figure out a way to get multiple values into the worksheet run result set. That way when you do the page item drop down list, you will see the <All> value in that list. Pick that value, refresh the worksheet, and save the workbook. Now reset your worksheet back to your desired conditions, where you end up with just one value in the worksheet result set, and refresh the worksheet. The <All> is still retained as the page item default and when you do the drop down list for the page item, you see two values in the list - your 1 valid value plus the <All> value. So once you get that <All> set as the page item default, then it will be retained. This explains how support originally tested (on an existing worksheet) and said they were able to see and pick the <All> value.
Since it should be rare for something to have just one valid value in a worksheet result set, and even rarer to have just one current valid value in Oracle, this workaround should take care of most of the situations where you might encounter this issue. I still will push for an enhancement request to have that <All> value show in the drop down list even when just one value in the worksheet result set.

Newbie Question: Best Way to Set Up Library and Photos?

Hello, all — I've been using Aperture for several years now, but I've been doing so with no structure or planning. Now I've got an Aperture library that is nearly 300G, mostly unorganized, and slow — and I'm ready to clean things up. My general question: "What is the best way to organize Aperture Libraries/Photos?" Right now I've got one library and about 90% of the photos are stored "inside" Aperture. I'd like to free up space on my internal hard drive and move my library (or libraries) and photos to an external drive.
So my big questions are:
"Should I have more than one library?"
"Should I store my libraries on my internal or external drives?"
"Should I store my pictures inside our outside of Apertur?" and
"Starting with the library I already have, how should I go about making these changes?"
I know these are all big topics and a lot to ask, but I'm feeling lost and would like at leat some pointers to get started. I guess I should also point out I do limited editing of my pictures: the vast majority are downloaded from my phone and kept as-is in Aperture.

So my big questions are:
"Should I have more than one library?"
That's up to you of course but there are pros and cons to multiple libraries.
The biggest con is that by splitting up your library you cannot search all your images at one time. So say you split by year, you can no longer get all images of Aunt Sally at Bobby's Birthday through the years. You would need to go into each year library, do the search and export the images.
Also having multiple libraries can complicate housekeeping.
On the plus side the libraries are smaller but there isn't a lot to be gained from smaller libraries. Aperture is able to handle fairly large libraries.
"Should I store my libraries on my internal or external drives?"
Again it's an individual choice but as a rule you want your libraries on the fastest drives you have. Up until the release of USB 3 and Thunderbolt that meant the internal drive, now you have more latitude.
So old system I say keep it internal. Newer system, if you can afford the USB 3 or Thunderbolt drives it's your choice.
"Should I store my pictures inside our outside of Apertur?" and
Again it's a users choice. Keeping the originals managed (inside the library) greatly simplifies backups. You backup the library the originals are backed up also. If the originals are referenced you need to make separate provisions for backing them up.
A plus for having referenced originals is that you can store them on slower media and save space and money. Again before the new Macs this was more of as issue as you would want the library on the internal drive for speed but to save space you could put the originals on slower external drives.
The other reason to store the originals referenced is if you need to access them with another application. If they are managed and in the library it really isn't feasible to access them from another application.
"Starting with the library I already have, how should I go about making these changes?"
Well step one is to make sure you have good working backups of everything. There is a good chance you will not get this right on the first shot and being able to just wipe everything out and start again will be both a big help and a great stress reliever.
Other then that you need to decide how you what the final setup to look. You could make some teat libraries and try out different setups to see what feels better for how you work. This will also let you play around with the commands and steps you will need to do when you do it for real.
Good luck and if you take nothing else away from all this pay attention to the part about having backups before you start. You will be very happy you did.

Sorry: Basic Question about MPs that arent showing any metrics

SCOM is up and running , agents are installed and show Healthy -my issue is when I expand a particular management pack like DNS I don't see any of my DNS servers showing up. When I expand the Microsoft Windows Active Directory MP I see my AD Servers listed
but a green circle saying Not Monitored. Do I need to go into the MPS somewhere and enable? thanks so much

Make sure that you DNS server has agent installed. And we may flush health service state and cache for DNS server and Domain controllers.
In addition make sure, DNS discovery rule is enabeld. And we may go through the management pack to configure the management pack.

Best Way To Set Up Screen Sharing Over The Internet

What is the best/simplest way to set up screen sharing over the internet so I can remotely control my Mac at home from my Mac at work? My Mac at work is running 10.5.6, my Mac at home is running 10.4.11.

Get both Macs up to Mac OS X (Leopard). Then use Apple's MobileMe Back-to-my-Mac service.
Or, use iChat screen sharing along with the iChat free 3rd party Chax add-on which allows selected iChat Buddies to auto-accept an iChat screen sharing request. Free AOL Instant Messaging accounts can be used as the iChat accounts.
If you do not want to upgrade all systems to Leopard...
Next would be using the free LogMeIn.com account, or similar service. This will work
The above avoid needing to figure out how you get through the home routers, and provide encrypted screen sharing sessions.
After that you need to arrange for router port forwarding. If you want secure connections, then you should arrange to port forward the SSH port 22, then use ssh tunnels for VNC based screen sharing connections. There are GUI based utilities that will help setting up SSH tunnels. Do some searches over at VersionTracker.com or MacUpdates.com

Basic Start-up Questions:Modem, Libraries, TV Sets

I haven't set up Apple TV yet because I have some basic questions that may involve permanent decisions about where we install it. My questions are so basic they don't seem to be addressed in the set-up instructions or the forums:
One~Does the Apple TV box replace my current Qwest modem~ in other words, is it like an Airport Extreme base station that will also handle our wireless signals to all our laptops and wireless printing? Do we still need our Qwest modem?
Two~can Apple TV be associated with other laptops and their associated iTunes libraries? For example, when my son wants to watch something and plugs in his laptop, can he buy something and watch it with his account, and then another time I can do the same with my account? Or is it only one Apple TV unit to one account and/or laptop?
And last, can Apple TV be moved to different TVs in the same house (bedroom, living room, etc.) Is the streaming content only streamed to one TV without interfering with with people watching satellite content on other TVs? Or should each TV have its own Apple TV unit?

Not in the Safari browser she can't. That is not supported on the iPad. There are other mobile browsers that do have that functionality - one is iCab Mobile.

I have been given the challenge to learn after effect (CS4), it appears to lag loads and take a hour to render (a 10sec composition).
Is the laptop I have been 'given' not really recommended for after effects, yes the program runs and works albeit very slowly, and appears to tick all the boxes on the minimum requirements.

Processor         Intel i3 CPU M350 @2.27GHz
Memory            4.00 GB ( 3.68)
System               64-bit
Running on Windows 7 Home Premium
Is it a reasonable request to ask for something better?

First, welcome to AE.
Most people here think of using the software as journey, and not something that can be totally mastered. That's an important differentiation from most applications, no?
Another important differentiation: knowing the basics is the key to doing the impressive-looking stuff in AE. There is a formidable number of little details to learn at the beginning which will relieve dead ends and frustration later. If you start at the beginning, you actually progress faster later on. Here's a good starting point:

To answer your question directly, I'd say yes: it IS reasonable to ask for something better. AE is a RAM hog, and in AE-Land, 4 gigs is almost nothing. If you must have a laptop, make sure it's filled up with memory. Serious AE power users would advise forsaking laptops altogether and going with a desktop machine.
To ease your task in the interim, I would do a few things:
Got multiprocessing (aka Render Multiple Frames Simultaneously) turned on? Turn it off and keep it off.
Got Open GL turned on to accelerate rendering? Turn it off and leave it off.
Got any footage in a project from a consumer camera, XDCam, HDV cam, helmet-cam or DSLR? Use a different application than AE to convert them into LOSSLESS footage. The files will be huge; that's life in AE-Land.

could this be a possible way to prevent basic questions being asked repeatedly (and to encourage search before post) (may be atleast for newcomers to the forum, to minimize one-liner questions).
when a user tries to post the question, as the user types or in the preview screen or before he clicks on the submit button, the SCN should show the similar questions/threads (or atleast threads with exactly the same text) asked/discussed before.
then the forum user might click on the links, instead of posting a new one, as the answer could be readily available in existing threads.
this functionality i have seen in yahoo answers.

then yahoo provides a popup "Wait, we might already have the answer you are looking for:" and it also shows the possible similar questions like:

I also think it is a cool idea, but unfortunately the "no brainers" are a small group in my experience and will not be detered by this.
We are using a new secret weapon in the past weeks against repeat offenders. Please use the Abuse Report button to report such basic questions when the person is "hard of hearing".
As a side note, also consider that some people are not fluent in English. Or even have no English language skills and use enterpreters. That is of course no reason to be a pain and break the rules (cross-posting, etc) but it does explain isolated misunderstandings.
I once called a repeat offender on the phone because he posted his telephone number in the forums. He could hardly speak any English at all, let alone write it...

Basic questions about JSF/af:panelPage/Facets

Using JDev 10.1.3.3.0, I created a couple of JSP pages using JSF and ADF BC. Then I added to one of them a af:panelPage and changed the facet branding to be the company logo.
Do I need to do the same for the other page (and any other pages that I create)? Is there a place where I set this facet value globally?
And is there a way to set up what facets are included in a af:panelPage by default?

3-way-match set up, no GR/IR account

Dear all,
Currently 3-way-match is not enable in my company and we have no GR/IR account. If we think about enabling it in the future how is its set up:
1) Can the 3-way-match be enabled just for certain vendors, or material groups? or when it's enabled it's valid for all MM invoices?
2) In case 3-way-match is enable but when Accounting receives the invoice there is no match, it is possible to save the item as "complete" until GR is entered? (Backgroup: we have an approval workflow and the item must be first completed in order to start with the workflow, item is posted after approval)
3) I really dont know how 3-way-match works as I never had the chance to see it in the system, but I have heard that items in which 3-way-match is not possible go to a queue. How does this queue work?

The standard invoice block is determined based on the repsecive tolerance key for block or we have to set manually in the payment tab (header).
if required You can set the manual payment block on the vendor master records and this will cause all invoices to be blocked for payment.

What is the simplest way to make a movie from BufferedImages?

I have a 3d rendered animation from which I can grab BufferedImages of each frame. What is the simplest way I can create a movie from these images?
I've seen the JpegImagesToMovie.java file and not only is it suprisingly overcomplicated, it requires me to change the code so that I can get images from memory rather than from files.
Is there some simple way of creating a movie which requires a few statements? I'm also prepared to use QuickTime for Java. I don't care about the format, since I can just use any video converter to convert it to my desired video format.

I recently came up with a simplified JpegImagesToMovie program. It generates QuickTime movies with a single video track output as a file. Input is a series of jpegs (currently as a list of file names, but easily modified to a take any form of jpeg data.) Since the compression used by the movie is JPEG, if you have an uncompressed image buffer, you'll need to convert that into jpeg data bytes with some quality setting. (Since its a movie file, go with something low if you have a lot of similar images.) This will even run without a full install of jmf--no native code is called (as far as I could tell..)
